My review is for the cafe and grotto experience yesterday which I feel was so well organised. Finally a place that has sense to have their staff help people find seats. The lady at the entrance of the cafe was so organised. Also Anna who works in the cafe serving food is brilliant. She has been greeting us for over a year with a smile in her face, even under pressure she is positive and excellent at her job.

Disgraceful service. I bought gifts on the website however they advertised the incorrect weight for chocolates 259g instead of 135g. I accepted a replacement which was also incorrect. Then they uncovered they advertised the incorrect weight. So aside from having to scramble to get replacement presents last minute I’m also having to wait 14 days to return the incorrect replacement for a refund. They’re happy to take your money but not so keen to hand it back even though it was their mistake. I’ll think twice about ordering from them.

he most appalling non existent service I have received in a very long time from John Lewis PLC. Leicester Store. Purchased a significant amount of nursery furniture and paid outright over 18 days ago: none of the order has been delivered with no updates, emails, SMS notifications from John Lewis. Made numerous calls BUT clearly to save money John Lewis has outsourced all customer service and I was routed every time to either India or South Africa. No one was able to help or tell me when I would receive my paid for goods apart from telling me repeatedly that my order was still showing as pended. Spent hours on the phone. Visited the store and was there for over 90 minutes with so many promises made to me once again and yet still no deliveries or promised call backs/emails explaining what their (not mine) problem is......I have been a huge advocate of John Lewis for over 40 years but the service now is so non existent, disparate and siloed areas from the Store, E-commerce department and off shored customer service not talking or working together...I will never shop at John Lewis again as right now I have spent a significant amount of money for prams, cots, changing station etc etc and no goods received!!

I come to this cafe because of access for our wheelchair using daughter and good toilets. It is always slow service and pointless system of pay here, repeat your order there. But today our drinks were cold and we weren't the only ones taking them back. Come on John Lewis you've got a good site and plenty of space to do better. The young women on the machines were pleasant and probably stressed to the nines poor things.

I visited the visited the Leicester store with my son and daughter. We had made a special trip and saved some John Lewis vouchers so we could pick up a few essentials for university. We were served by a young lady called Yamani in the home-wares department. I will say that all the assistances are always wonderful however, Yamani was the exceptionally helpful. Yamani actually went out of her way to assist my son in purchasing what he actually needed and wanted for university. It actually made our day out to town worthwhile. Thank you so much Yamani for all your help, and support. So 5 stars 🌟 for John Lewis Leicester and Yamani.

I recently visited the John Lewis Cafe on the third floor of Highcross and had a generally positive experience. The café itself offers a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for taking a break from shopping. I decided to try a slice of cake and a hot chocolate. The cake was enjoyable, with a nice flavor, but I found it to be slightly on the dry side—it could have been a bit more moist. On the other hand, the hot chocolate was excellent, rich and satisfying, providing a nice contrast to the cake. The total for my order came to £7.50, which I found to be reasonable for the quality and setting. Overall, I would rate the experience 4 out of 5 stars. The café is a lovely spot with good offerings, though a bit more attention to the texture of the cake would make it even better. I’ll definitely be returning, but I hope to find an even more delightful cake next time.

Appalling experience with online Customer Services that appear to have been out-sourced to another country. I bought a laptop and only when setting it up realised that I had been mis-sold. Phoned their Technical Dept., jumped through the hoops they set but, predictably the fault remained. Said they could not help and that I should approach Microsoft. Contacted Customer Services who were distinctly disinterested - Effectively said that as I had begun to set up the machine, it could not be returned! They referred me back to Technical Services! After going round in circles for hours I sought the legal position. John Lewis' evasive and dismissive phone service contravenes Sections 22 and 62 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. They failed to provide accurate and up to date product information rendering the sale void; But they also parroted Conditions the, under the Act and 'unfair' and void. I insisted on speaking to a senior manager, whose main concern was to protect John Lewis against me. I threated legal action an after a lot of prevarication secured a Return to my local store. To my amazement in-store Customer Services were excellent, reminiscent of old-school John Lewis. No fuss, no objections they obviously new that the fault I had discovered was already known to them with other customers and they effected and immediate refund. The fact that it took me about 2days to break through the incompetence and failed promises of the phone services still rankles with me and I would advise against purchasing laptops online from John Lewis.

John Lewis shop is great, but their cafe - oh dear! Dropped in for coffee and cake, self service trays that are tired and stained, plates - had to reject 4 from the top of the pile before finding a clean one, cutlery, again had to dig through and reject 5 or 6 teaspoon (ditto forks) before finding a clean one - this really is truly shoddy! And what’s with the tannoy advertising, is this to give the full ‘waiting in a bus station’ experience? My advice, give it a miss, there are lots of fine cafes elsewhere inside the shopping centre or outside.

Update 15/03/24 Great service fom Bharti in the electricals department. Very helpful and welcoming. Excellent product knowledge from Bailey in the lighting department. Really appreciate the care taken to wrap my light fiting and shades to ensure protection whilst traveling home. Exceptional service from Sadhana & Kirti today in the furniture department. I had reserved 2 pillows which were low in stock. Sadhana guided me to customer collections and then checked I had got the pillows after. Super welcoming and genuine. I was then browsing the lighting in the clearance section. Kirti approached, asked how I was and then offered to plug in the lamp base I was looking at to test with a feature bulb I was also looking at. This was very helpful to give me an idea of the overall effect. I did not have to ask. Knowledgable and helpful in a genuine fashion. Really happy with my purchases and shopping experience. Highly recommended.

Went in here a couple of weeks ago with the wife, had a couple of scones, crazy long wait to get drinks at the centre island, staff slow and ponderous and clearly suffering from a personality bypass, anyway went in again today, thought it couldn't be so bad twice, luckily we went in at non peak time, cause once again a painful overpriced experience for 2 teas and a coffee, and tragic wait time, so firstly its suffering from a lack of staff, and even the staff working clearly couldn't care less have no customer service skills and don't want to be there, my other gripe is, and I'm not some eco zealot but when I went in last time we got served milk in a jug with out drinks, this Time we were told that the only milk available was in those little plastic foil top things that you need loads of just to get any quantity of milk out of ( and is it just me or does the milk taste odd from those things?) anyway I digress, we ended up using 12 of these single use plastic milk things , which will be no doubt be chucked straight in the bin, I looked on their website and they make great fanfare about reducing single use plastics and bam in the next breath you can only use these crap plastic milks, can someone at JL explain this to me? are things so bad and they are so short staffed they can no longer afford the time to wash some milk jugs? Anyway expected better from JL but sadly and badly let down all round, wont be back will find a smaller cafe elsewhere who is more reasonable and would greet meet with a smile and appreciate my business.

We usually have a snack lunch here when in the city. Today the service was a little better than usual. We arrived at about 12.10 pm. We both had an egg and cress roll. There was a lot of lovely filling but the brown roll was a bit dry and tasteless. I had a very overpriced packet of plain crisps and my husband had a latte coffee. I only drink coffee with lactose free milk so didn’t have a drink. The cost was just under £15. Rather overpriced for what it was.

Online ordering with in-store pickup is easy, fast and efficient. Proud to have a John Lewis in Leicester. A shame they closed so many stores in the UK over recent years. I had a brilliant experience having both of my daughters feet measured and buying their shoes at John Lewis Leicester on 25/1/23. Unfortunately I don't recall the lady's name (I wish I did) but she was brilliant. My eldest needs insoles so not straightforward and my youngest is toddler who unfortunately was overtired... But she kept my youngest entertained 'helping' and still managed to carefully measure my eldest's feet, brought out countless pairs of shoes and didn't give up until we were all happy with the fit and style. As a bonus she even found some shoes for my youngest which were in the sale, but still compared the fit of these to others to ensure they were right. A really helpful and enjoyable experience. I definitely felt she knew what she was doing. We will be buying here from now on.

John Lewis has a good name. I was on holiday and my brother was looking for a new digital radio. This store is massive and it is located in a very large shopping centre in Leicester. The centre appeared to be pretty new. We were also looking for lunch and the options in the cafe were very good and it wasn't that expensive. I opted for the Scotch Broth which was very tasty and a good helping. The cafe was busy but we got a seat as it is has plenty room. My brother got his radio and we had a lovely lunch. All very good for us thank you.

The person behind the counter needs some customer skills I was standing waiting she did not acknowledge me. Waiting for a while so i just walked off. Despite many other reviews I think the food here is good. I usually have the soup and a portion of chips (the chips are amazing). The cakes in the centre isle always look good too. However, the service is appalling. Every time I've been I hope to have a better experience, but sadly not. The staff have no urgency about them at all, the queue gets longer and longer, and they generally seem to be disorganised and disinterested. All the customers complain about it. The reason I gave four stars is all down to one member of staff. His name is Abdullah and he came to the rescue this Saturday. He was so efficient, taking orders, hurrying the staff along and even delivering food orders to tables. He single handedly improved the service and got the queue down. This is how you run a restaurant. Your restaurant needs more Abdullahs. I don't know who's in charge, but it should be Abdullah. I hope he gets a good Christmas bonus. He is your hero. And was mine on Saturday. And I told him so. He is a tiger working with a bunch of sloths.

We were treated by a very pleasant member of staff, who advised that we should find a table first before getting food, as it was busy. We did this, there were tables available. As we had bought a fair few items we went one at a time to get our food, as it wasn’t possible to work out what was available from a menu. It took 15 minutes for my partner to get his food and a coffee. I then went up to choose my food. Same experience. One person on a till and one making the coffees. I was over 15 minutes queuing to order, pay and then wait for the cappuccino to be made. Hardly any gluten free options were available. My partner had finished his meal when I sat down to eat mine. Hardly an enjoyable lunchtime break. There were more staff clearing tables than serving. It’s a sad demise of what used to be a reliably good place to eat in any John Lewis store. When we left the same nice member of staff said goodbye. All the time standing by the entrance, when they could have been helping stop queuing.

We have recently bought some furniture from the Leicester store. Whilst we did have a few niggly problems with the John Lewis phone service (sadly appears to have been moved out of the UK), I have to say that the staff in the store furniture department were absolutely amazing. They spent quite some time looking for a specific table that we wanted (and was somewhere in store) and then sorted out our complete order and nothing seemed too much trouble for them ….

Holly at the luggage department was absolutely FANTASTIC today. I really hope she gets a promotion.. the level of effort and time she took to go through everything with me meant so much to me. I was really struggling to get the right case for my autistic daughter's needs... As a result I purchased a luggage case more expensive than originally planned and have a very happy little 7 year old and yes Holly if you ever read this review all of my daughter's stuffed cats fit in. I bought a lip scrub from Dior on the 21st of November and I felt really judged by the employees there. It was a really poor service. There was no bag (which in my opinion, if I’m buying from a luxury brand, they should be able to give a special treatment) and they sold me a package really damaged. The worst part is when I’m buying and the employees don’t make you feel welcome. Made me feel uncomfortable. It made me feel like I was bothering them, because the lady was with an annoyed look on her face. It would be nice, when purchasing from these brands, to have a nice experience. I won’t come back to Dior in John Lewis Leicester after this experience.

And yet again the serving of coffee has taken an age. Surely the buying/ serving can be organised more effectively. Shame because the coffee is good as is the mince pie.

Food and drink is fine and what you expect for a JL cafe. It’s a nice space and handy if you have babies or accessibility problems. My major gripe is that it’s always very messy - so many of the tables aren’t regularly cleared and it looks awful. You end up having to move other people’s dirty cups and plates onto other dirty tables to clear room. This isn’t a one off, it’s like that every time and not just at peak times. There is usually someone clearing tables but they’re so slow and there seems to be no effort to keep on top of it. Some of the staff could also benefit from customer service training. It’s strange as the staff who work in the shop are great and so helpful and friendly, but doesn’t seem to be the case in the cafe.

I am utterly shocked at the customer service I have received from John Lewis. They failed to deliver my package to me and then treated me like a criminal when I tried to contact them. I received a notification that my parcel was successfully left ‘outside my door’ when no one was home. When I got back there was no package to be seen. I got in touch with the team, and instead of feeling like a valued customer I was left feeling hopeless. I was told to contact citizens advice Buereu or my bank if I was disputing that the parcel was delivered! We work hard to save our money and spend it with a trusted brand like John Lewis. However I would trust them again.

Most of the store is just as you'd expect but this review is to reflect our experience of the cafe. Firstly it was confusing trying to figure out where to go to get a coffee with no clear signs of which way to go. Half the staff didn't seem to know what they were doing and despite it not being very busy, it was incredibly slow service. We ordered a coffee and pasta for our kid. We've been here 40 minutes and still don't have the pasta. The only person who seems to know what they're doing and have any sense of urgency is the lovely lady on the coffee machine. Needless to say, not coming back to the cafe again

Having had a busy morning shopping, we decided to pop into the John Lewis cafe for a snack. We were very disappointed with the choices - poor quality; the scones were hard and the hot Chocolate was lukewarm. My sister ordered the Black Forest cake which was soggy and tasteless. I’m very disappointed with the quality of service and food. Come on John Lewis you can do better! We won’t be returning. Overpriced and poor quality.

Awful service; staff are slow, bordering on ponderous, and were non communicative. One member of staff walked away and left a queue and did some random clearing up that could have waited. The lady who served me made my drink and left it at the other end of the counter, despite walking up to where I was waiting by the till, where she proceeded to serve the next customer. I eventually located my drink but it seemed such a lazy and pointless way to serve someone. Cakes were not presented well so I dodged those, as they didn’t even look appetising. From reading other reviews, they don’t seem to improve. Very poor for a JLP store. A serious review needs to take place, both for skills and attitude.

Popped in for lunch, what a disappointment. Even though it was only 1pm, very limited choice. I had steak pie, peas and chips. The mint peas were luke warm and disgusting. The chips were ok, but only 12 !! My wife had a cheese and onion panini with salad. The salad comprised 1 small tomato cut into 4 pieces and 3 small thin slices if cucumber. The staff seemed totally disinterested. On a positive note, at least they had someone cleaning tables

Buying because of 2 years warranty on your electronic items, think again!!! They will sent your iPhone for 28 days for repair without a loaner. Who has two phones? And how would you dial 999 or call road side assistance if broken down on country lanes. Guess what!!! it’s not JLP’s fault. Buy from Manufacturer direct or go to company like Costco where after sales service is top notch. Apple gives you loaner when they sent your phone away for 7 days. FITBIT replaced my unit after it broken down just after 2 years which was obviously refused by JL. 23.07.2023 - Hot drinks quality and customer service is no where near any other cafe around leicester - TCC, Saint of Mocha, cafe Nero, costa or even star buck but price is surely to match them. Why would they improve? No incentive really… Stay Away

We like it here because it’s spacious and feels safe The central island till wasn’t working and there was only 2 ladies serving , one taking the orders and one making coffees I waited 20 minutes ( my sister timed me) They were trying their best but the queue was getting longer When I finally sat down I noticed once the queue had gone someone came to the centre island and another assistant appeared where I had been queueing This situation wasn’t managed well Surely both coffee machines could have been used to ease the pressure My sister and I did not enjoy our coffee on this occasion

Very Disappointed 😔 Every Time I've been the Portions are getting smaller including All the Cakes, quality average. Now Poor Value for money, the cafe was almost empty even around Lunch time. Not surprised as the cakes are expensive for what you actually get, used to go regularly. Not from now as you get almost a few crumbs of cake and coffee is quite weak. M&S hope you keep the quality and the sizes fair.

Well things haven’t changed at John Lewis. Great store but a terrible cafe. They advertise breakfast till 11.30 but after queuing for 10 mins from 11.05 they “sold out” of all hot choices. I politely asked them to cook a few more sausages as there were still 15 minutes to the deadline but was told they couldn’t do that because they had “run out” of all hot breakfast options. How convenient! I don’t have the time or inclination to give full details of the huge queues for coffee ( 15 minutes at least). I actually felt sorry for the ONE member of staff trying to make the coffees. I hope he gets more than minimum wage but I doubt it. And don’t get me started on the price of sandwich’s. £5.75 for a chicken salad sandwich-I don’t think so!

We bought tea and cake from the counter where an obviously-inexperienced newbie was being trained up. The staffing was ok for hot food but totally inadequate for coffee and cake. We won’t be returning. We used to visit every other week but the delays are now too lengthy.

We popped in just before 10 am on Friday 29th July. We both had vouchers for a free breakfast roll. Very minimal staff on hot food counter, obviously struggling to cope with the stream of customers. We ordered after quite a wait and were told that they didn't have the brioche rolls and were offered a choice of white or sourdough bread instead. This was fine, as we both prefer sourdough to brioche anyway. The poor partner, working alone, on the hot drink section was deluged with customers and kept apologising for keeping people waiting. We sat down with our coffee and our breakfast arrived after about 15 minutes, with more apologies as it turns out they didn't have sourdough bread either, so it was white sliced. It's a good job this was a reward offer John Lewis. If we'd paid almost £4 each for the food we'd received, we'd have been very unhappy. As a Waitrose partner myself, I was disappointed with the experience. You can do better than this JLP. No wonder we are struggling, our reputation for outstanding customer service is not currently evident.

I ordered some simple voile drapes in early Feb. These are a 2 single curtains without lining, I was told at the point of sale they would be completed in 4 to 6 weeks. No so, by the time they arrive it will be 13 weeks. This is not the service I was promised or expected

A giant store, almost a full shopping centre all in itself. It has many levels with various departments, from clothes, to furniture, to electronics and more. The great thing about this one is the location, right in the centre of town, attached to the Highcross Shopping Centre. A great positive is that this store pretty much has its own parking. You can walk straight from the car park into the store, or carry on into the square.

So I first went into this store to purchase some Robert Welch Radford coffee spoons. Unfortunately they weren’t available, but one the lovely staff members made an order for me to be delivered into store. Here now lies the issues; later in the week I get a phone call to confirm that they will be arriving into the store, & I change my mind to have them sent to my home address. They said wouldn’t be able to do this, then another phone call back they said I could. Once finally getting further I went to spend a gift card, to be told no. Another phone call someone said yes, then went back on it & said no. I finally decide to have it all cancelled, to be told he can’t do it because the case is open with someone else. I call back, in which I hoped for a final time, they said yes all sorted & cancelled, then I get repeated calls at least 4 times a week for the past 3 weeks, leaving voice mails to ask if I still want them. Today hopefully they are finally cancelled. Communication 0/10, consistently of standards 0/10, professionalism 0/10 & harassment 10/10!

No bicycle parking at the entrance. You need to leave your bike 50 meters away. Come on, this is the 21st century, cycle parking is a must. When you enter, you can't see where the 'click & collect' till is, you need to guess, or ask someone. Ground floor: pungent smell of perfumes. I literally got headache due to the intense smell but fortunately, I'm not allergic. On the positive side: quality products, clean & tidy environment. Not many chavs around.

Terrible experience with this store. Very poor after care service. If the products develop a fault or issue then your met with defensive attitude from the staff. Immediately blamed me for the fault, then when it became apparent that wasn't the case they fou d another excuse. Apparently refusing to return faulty products is good for business as I was told by one of their staff. Just ended up giving up as I don't have time to argue with them.

I absolutely love shopping at John Lewis Leicester unfortunately some workers that work in this establishment are a disgrace. Few weeks ago I came shopping in the beauty department. On this occasion I was let down by an individual female employee who was to busy chatting away to her colleagues. I asked this lady I needed help and she just turned round and said to me she is busy with a customer but this wasn’t true at all since she was having a right banter with her colleagues and looked at me with a disgusting look like I am a liability I asked another worker on shop floor when I pointed out the lady to her and asked what’s her name that this behaviour is unacceptable and maybe I should take this further. I was told her name is Poonam and most of the time she is great. I felt that lady felt sorry for Poonam, This is disgusting customer service. I wonder if Poonam has any awareness that she does represent a big organisation and she has a duty to fulfil to provide an excellent service to customers satisfaction. This Poonam made me feel I am a liability and made me feel like I walked into this store and I don’t deserve to be treated with dignity and respect ! WELL POONAM GIVING DIRTY LOOKS TO ME DON’T SCARE ME !! I will never again enter this establishment again I’d rather shop where they appreciate my custom. It’s your loss John Lewis Leicester !! Hope you rot like your other stores John Lewis Leicester and close down !!!

Extremely slow to be served, the young woman that served me was extremely pleasant, friendly and competent. The guy serving drinks and on the till, not so much. Toastie and coffee were nice, however toastie was cold and not melted and the cappuccino was just warm. Not enough staff at peak times and considerably over priced!

This sad offering cost me over ten pounds, more fool me I bought one for me and one for the wife. Not to mention the £2,75p children's toastie which was one slice of bread with cheese and ham. I can highly recommend avoiding the cafe for lunch. Not sure what the cakes are like but the drinks weren't upto much either. £30 and I've never been so disappointed. Just goes to show John Lewis doesn't always mean quality. The staff in the serving area were a whirlwind of disorganisation too. Maybe they were just having an off day! The fish and chips tasted of grease and nothing more.

Whatever made us try this place again? 10:30 on Monday morning was quiet and we just wanted coffees and cake, so we stood a chance of not waiting interminably as before. It was not to be. Staff shuffled around almost aimlessly and managed to keep even the few customers waiting far more than necessary. When we got it, coffee was weak and the coffee and walnut cake (the first slice from a new one) was pre-aged to be dry and close to tasteless. Elsewhere in the store the staff were doing their best to make customers welcome and to offer any help they wanted. Top management, and so-called ‘partners’ working at this John Lewis store need to come out from their cosy staff restaurant and experience what their customers do at this ‘place to eat’. If they don’t then get it fixed they should follow the signs to the exit.

Went in yesterday with my 4 year old daughter who picked a toy off the shelf to purchase. When we got to the till we were asked to pay £45. Ticket on the shelf said £19.99 There were no other spaces for this toy and no other extra tickets on the shelf. Clearly a human error by staff, but refused to honour the price that was in its place. Leaving my daughter very upset. Other retailers tend to honour the price, so I was shocked that John Lewis told me they wouldnt, despite the obvious error. I have just purchased a new £400 car seat online, so as soon as it arrives, I shall be returning it back to John Lewis as they have lost my custom.

I went there last night and ordered a glass of mojito. Firstly, staff behaviour was not professional. I had to wait for a long time to see somebody comes to me to receive my order. Secondly, the portion of mojito was not satisfying due to the £7.7 I paid. The glass was full of ice cubes but a little portion of syrup. I did not like their atmosphere and the music as well.
