We've enjoyed indian take aways & meals here before but today's wasn't good at all. The bhajis were stale, the curry's lacked taste and substance. What chicken that was in my dish was very dry and was clearly left over from the day before.

My sisters and I have always loved Indian food and this was the best Indian we have ever had!! We were all so impressed by the food quality and the attentiveness of the staff! So friendly and the food came out so fast! Clean flavours with quality ingredients! We were visiting from Cornwall and were so impressed by the food! What wonderful chefs!!! We were reluctant to write a review as we thought what a best kept secret this pub should be! What a brilliant idea and seems to be so popular for eat in and take away! We had the best time and honestly wow! Thank you so much for a wonderful evening ! Xxx

Went in to try the Indian takeaway for my birthday, there was the wrong meat in one dish, both dishes had about 4 small pieces of chicken and they were both flavourless with the exact same texture with no fresh ingredients. Very disappointing and won't return.

The pub boasts a charming classic ambiance. The bar staff are warm and welcoming, and the culinary skills of Chef Pierre are outstanding. Having trained under Gordon Ramsay, his expertise is evident. I tried the Partridge, and it was not only delicious but also artfully plated. I'd endorse this pub wholeheartedly. Their Sunday feasts are unparalleled in the region.

We stopped at the Black Horse Inn for lunch as we left Nibley festival. It’s a lovely old building (16th Century), we were given the warmest welcome and had a Sunday roast to die for!!!! Everything single thing was a taste sensation…. and bring your appetite… the portions are very generous!! Although we didn’t stay, they also have the most wonderful rooms which have recently been refurbished and just opened a lovely little shop in the pub with food and ice cream!

The owners, Karen and Darren are exceptional hosts, we were made to feel extremely welcome. They have a lot of passion for running a fabulous pub and their effort is reflected in the outstanding food, service and overall atmosphere of the property. The room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The furnishings are well maintained and the en-suite bathroom was spotless and spacious. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and are planning to stay again.

Firstly I should point out that the new owners have only been in post for five weeks which is reflected in the “Average” rating. Booking was easy and Darren & Karen were available to answer any questions we had prior to our arrival date of the 15th April 2023. On arrival we were met by Darren who we found very helpful and friendly. First impressions were of a clean, well furnished and comfortable Inn. Darren explained that they had only taken over five weeks prior to our visit and it was obvious that they had been working very hard cleaning and decorating to bring the place up to a suitably high standard. Further evidence of this was found in our accommodation which consisted of a double room with en-suite. The bed was very comfortable and we both enjoyed a good nights sleep for the entirety of our stay. The en-suite looked newly decorated with wc basin and shower cubicle. The tiling in the shower cubicle did look old and ideally in need of replacing but it was clean and acceptable considering the short time Darren & Karen had been there. There was a restaurant downstairs which we did not use as we were visiting family and therefore had made arrangements to eat out. The Breakfasts were served in the lounge and consisted of a continental or traditional cooked breakfast. As I am vegetarian I can not really comment on the “full English” but I certainly had plenty of choice and we both enjoyed our breakfast on the two morning we were there. Shane who was in charge of the breakfast catering was a really nice friendly guy who was happy to chat and advise us regarding the local area. To conclude I would say that the Black Horse is a work in progress but certainly worth a visit either for a drink, a meal or to stay. I am sure the hard work Darren & Karen and their friendly team of staff have put in will soon have The Black Horse being worthy of a five star rating. Thank you guys! We really enjoyed our stay with you and we certainly would have no hesitation in recommending you to anyone looking for a break in your beautiful county of Gloucestershire. Best wishes for your future success. Mike & Wendy

We met friends here for a drink early on a Friday evening. The bottom part of the bar was in darkness, and my husband overheard the barmen saying they shouldn’t be turned on as they would be wasting electric! It looked like the whole area was closed off for food. Only one table was occupied with a couple eating and the few other customers were just having a drink. The fire in the comfy seating area wasn’t lit, which added to the gloom of the room. The previous owner had worked so hard to make this pub a success, it has now sadly gone downhill under the new owners. We will not be returning.

Dropped in for lunch on New Year’s Day having checked the website and noted a sign on the outside of the pub stating the kitchen was open only to be told by a tide bar staff remember that they were not. My young family were not best pleased. This was on top of a poor experience with a bad pint and rude staff in November. In my mind this venue relies on the fact it is the only pub in the immediate area, this is not a good idea in the long term. Must do better.

It is a family tradition every New Year’s day to eat at this pub after a walk organized with half a dozen other local families. However this year we were met with the most incompetent, rude and aggressive new owner we’ve ever met. He was unable to correctly meet our orders which we had preordered a month ago and became agitated at us for asking for clarification. Not only did we have to clear our own tables, he also could not provide cutlery which we had to beg for. I personally was handed a serving spoon and expected to use this. When he could not identify what he was serving and shouted in my mothers face “I don’t know, I don’t know, I’ve just been given this to hand out” and then claimed to be the owner, we knew something had gone terribly wrong with the handing over of management. As he walked away he shouted “oh for f***s sake” and then attacked, whilst still shouting “i don’t f***ing know”, his own furniture.

I visited as part of a large group which was a mixture of adults and young children. Even though we had preordered our food and were the only people eating in the pub our orders came out incorrectly and we were told some of the desserts we had ordered had sold out. We had to clear our own tables after eating and beg for more cutlery because we weren’t supplied with enough. The owner was extremely rude and even swore at us in front of the children and made no attempt to apologise for the poor service or food mix ups. The food was poor very dry and over cooked, we won’t be returning. It was a great shame as the rest of the waiting staff tried to be helpful it was just let down by the owner who was very unpleasant.

The Black Horse was a very convenient venue for supper on two sequential evenings. Although there were a number of items off the menu on our first night, the remaining selections were quite sufficient to satisfy our fancies. We were very happy with our respective dishes and were looking forward to our second evening. It turned out to be pie night; two for £20 so all four of us plumped for pies. With the full support of my companions, I can say that the pies were outstanding. Plump with crisp pastry and tasty, juicy fillings. The portions were enormous but the main point was the quality of the pies. Not to be missed.

Strange experience, this, not sure as it could have been more enjoyable on a different day. We were staying nearby and stopped off on a Sunday afternoon to see if they served food into the evening. A lady behind the bar told me yes they did, checked in the kitchen for a menu and told me about the HUGE range of pie filling s they offered here. So I booked a table for that night. As we were parking the car in the large car park we saw and heard a folk band playing in the pub garden, delightful setting and great to see. Went into the main bar, shown to our table, got the drinks in. all going well. After five minutes perusing the menu the young man came back to take our order and the last pie had just been sold! I said that we had come specially for the famous pies and he said Tuesday night (I think) was pie night. Okay, our loss, but then the sticky toffee pud was also sold out. Okay, disappointed but not downhearted, decided to missed pudding. Then a loud voice on a mike form the main bar started testing 1-2-3 - and we discovered it was bingo night. A bit of a surprise, so we drank up and left.

We visited for a friends birthday, the staff were very helpful and accommodating with our son who has an egg allergy. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. We asked for a jug of water and the bar man came out with a jug of water with fruit in it. It's the little touches like that we like. Will defiantly be back.

We went into this pub at lunchtime today (Saturday) for a meal. The sound system was blaring out a commercial station playing endless ads. This was intrusive In the bar but intolerable in the pub eating area. Music blaring is bad enough, but adverts?! I got up from the table and returned to the bar where my husband still had not been served. We left to go elsewhere and won't be back. In the end we had a pleasant lunch in a cafe in Wotton for half the price. I write this critical but truthful ad as I live only a few miles away and it is a shame to see a local pub in a nice village acting so rubbishly. Saturday lunchtime and no locals were in for a drink.

Rating an establishment can be difficult when it goes from Very Good to Average. The Black Horse was the most expensive b and b that we stayed at on the Cotswold Way.We had a lovely welcome on arrival and an easy check in. During the whole of our stay the staff were friendly and helpful. Our ensuite room was quite small and could have done with a little tlc. One of the window panes was cracked. We had a meals in the bar during the evening - rabbit pie and lasagne - which were most enjoyable. Slept well on the whole, although some disturbance from tables and chairs being moved in the dining room below us - presumably preparing for breakfast time.Breakfast was a little disappointing - not what we actually received - that was very well cooked. But the choice was extremely limited - not even a glass of orange juice.I would probably rate the Black Horse better than average but not very good.

We started our walk from their car park ( pre arranged) and 16 of us ate when we got back. Quick service, value for money and good food. Lovely pub.

I spent a night at the Black Horse while walking the Cotswold Way and was very impressed. The rooms were clean and comfortable and staff were very friendly and helpful. The meals and choice available were impressive. In the bar there was an excellent selection of local beers and they even had an open fire to add warmth and atmosphere. That night there was a good crowd in the bar and a lively atmosphere

We have been to this pub a few times over the last few months for Sunday lunch and have always been impressed by the quality of the food (including a nice vege option), and the reasonable prices. Excellent desserts as well!

Can't fault anything, prompt response to my email enquiry, delicious roast dinner, the best cauliflower cheese I've ever had. Service was friendly and helpful and nice to talk to one of the chefs, this will be our go to place for Sunday roast when we eat out. Sticky toffee pudding to finish again really good

I stumbled across The Edgemoor Inn whilst driving past and arrived with no expectations. From the moment that I walked through the door I was made to feel welcome. My table had magnificent views across the valley. There was a selection of drinks to suit most tastes: I thoroughly enjoyed a well kept pint of bitter from the local Uley brewery. The food was freshly prepared with care and attention to detail. Both starter and main were exceptionally good. The menu has a good selection of meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes. For me this has been the discovery of an unexpected gem. I will be back. Kevin
