The Black Horse Inn in West Lindsey

We were visiting family who live in Scunthorpe, and there were seven in our party. The food was very nice, all produce locally sauced. I highly recommend a visit here. All the staff are very friendly too.

We called in on the off chance for something to eat , we arrived the lady behind the bar was lovely she said they were fully booked in the restaurant area but had a few tables in the bar area if we were ok to eat there, we choose the lunch menu two courses for £10.45 , I myself had chicken pie with chips and peas the pie was to die for amazing taste , and the other member of the party had gammon which was said to be cooked to perfection, we then ordered pudding which we though the portions could of been a little bit bigger than they were but what do you expect for another £2 .. Would definitely recommend calling for wonderful place and atmosphere staff couldn’t do enough for you brilliant place..

We ordered the main menu, and we had a little wait, but it was well worth it. The food was excellent. We would highly recommend this place, but no problem. It has a nice, friendly atmosphere, and i will use again.

The Lincolnshire sausage and mash were excellent.

Great food - 6 of us ordered different meals and we were all happy with them. Portions are generous which especially pleased the 3 husbands in our party - the pork belly and the beef stroganoff especially stood out as quality food. Nice deserts, friendly staff and good service means we will definitely be going back to our new favourite place.

Lovely place to eat service excellent great atmosphere

We went for a family meal for 5 people, the restaurant was empty and we was stuck on the smallest table possible for 5 adults. The starters were really greasy and tasteless, chips were soggy and extremely greasy, Pie was nothing special with tasteless gravy, chicken was overcooked. Worst meal I’ve had and prices were extortionate for what is was, came home £130 lighter, Definitely won’t be back!!

The food was great value for money and well cooked. The wine was very expensive,£22pr bottle for a not particularly good Chardonnay however the bitter was excellent and well looked after Staff where very helpful but seating very uncomfortable, overall a good experience,as a group we will go back in the future but see if there is different seating available.

Christmas Lunch, group of 5 retired ex work mates. Excellent meal, excellent service, and good value for money Staff very accomodating and pleasent, all 5 members of group agree it was the best Christmas Pub lunch we have had.

Great staff, very cheerful and happy to help, with good customer service throughout my stay. The food was lovely, pre warning, the portions are on the larger side. The sleeping accommodation was very good value indeed, very clean, very spacious and very comfortable. I would highly recommend and would stay again for sure.

First visit to the Black Horse, found the staff friendly nice clean venue but the food was shocking. Both of our meals where returned to the kitchen and we left disappointed as we had heard nothing but good things about the food.

Met friends for lunch here and enjoyed a good meal in a great pub.

went with a few friends as an invite and had a Sunday dinner it was lovely al be going again.

Our family members came and stayed two nights there and they said it was the best nights sleep they had had in a long time the food and staff were very good they can't wait to go back

Nice food but they need to train staff better. I asked about the kids meal for £2 as I had noticed it on the board outside but didn't read it (My ADHD brain). Staff member said I would get it with what I ordered. I then went to pay at the end of the meal and was charged full price because I'd not ordered from the main menu! I was not told this at the point of ordering, I had even said I wouldn't buy these meal if it wasn't the £2. It was only for my 9 month old!! I could have fed him food off my plate. When at the bar paying I pointed out that it was on the receipt at full price and another staff member said it as because I'd not ordered from the main menu. The staff member who had taken my order even said that she told me it would be £2 and it was just shrugged off! Imagine if I couldn't afford to pay the full price! What situation would that have left me in! It's disgusting. It should have been honoured at the cost I was told it would be at point of ordering.

We've been for meals here at different times of the day. The lunch menu is cheaper but so is the portion size, it's still good value for money though. Nice atmosphere and well decorated, the staff really are lovely, no matter who is working.

Reviewed this pub after our visit just over a year ago and gave it 5 stars. We had heard that it had changed hands and reviews seemed more mixed but we decided to ‘give it another go’. Prices have risen, which I suppose is inevitable, so ‘the lunch club deal’ of 2 courses was now £10.45 instead of £8.95. However in our opinion it still represented excellent value for money. The menu was very similar and still included the ‘old-fashioned traditional puddings’. There seemed to be a bit of difference in portion-size between the dishes our group of 4 had………everything was perfectly adequate but some plates were definitely fuller than others! Presentation of the food was perhaps a little lacking but it was well-cooked and very tasty. The place has a good country pub feel, however on this occasion it was much quieter than our previous visit despite being a similar time of year, so we guess it’s less popular.

First visit after hearing good reports and was not disappointed. Very warm welcome on arrival and was served by a very polite and friendly young waitress. Excellent choice on menu, food came in a very reasonable time and was very good. Great pub food and will definitely return.

We call regular and up to now they have accommodate us. Staff very nice The rooms we have not tried as live local but was talking to some who have. They say they are nice. Food very good Garlic mushrooms, not the usual brand ones, thats hot in centre Crispy and bigger mushrooms Gammon cooked to perfection for me with home cooked chips egg, pineapple, peas Steak is on the menu I enjoyed on a previous occasion Would recommend you try yourself. Best to check book.

Great hidden gem! I We went with 3 generations, my children and grandparents. A tough crowd normally but all we’re pleased! Portions are really good (too good), chips are proper, kids meals (and the rest) were authentic and not frozen, gravy is like my grans! Exactly what you want from a country pub! Staff were amazing, even when the place was rammed. Landlady has a lot of energy, really creates a welcoming feel to everyone who walks through the door. I kind of don’t want to do a review as our hidden gem will be exposed! But I’d love to see others enjoy it as much as we did! We shall be back!

We called in on Sunday early evening for the roast menu and was very impressed, staff were all very friendly and welcoming. I ordered a roast pork dinner and it was delicious with fresh veg & mash when usually it’s the packet type mash cheap & cheerful. There ran out of roast potatoes unfortunately and gave me new potatoes but overall couldn’t fault the quality of food. Maybe next time we catch it a little early and get the roasties so definitely called again and can recommend.

Great place to eat, good selection of beers.

The menu looked great, I had black pudding stack with potato rostie and crispy bacon. It was served with hash browns ( I don’t like these) the bacon had been fried in a fryer!! I spoke to the waitress she said “oh sorry” next I had what they called a lump of rump, I asked if I could have some scampi with it, I asked for it cooked medium. When it arrived it was very thin steak and very well over cook and also very gristly. Again I spoke to the waitress. And to top it off when we where leaving the kitchen staff where slating us say all we wanted was free food!!!! I am a chef and we will not be going back!!!!

First time I've visited, the food was wonderful and great value from the lunch menu. Best chips I've had in ages! The service was quick and friendly too. Unfortunately we were seated near a large group of rather noisy people which put a dampener onto the meal, however I'll be visiting again.

Good food, but a little expensive.

Just left after going for lunch with my Mum £9 for a fish gouijon sandwich Which came looking like a bus station cafe sarnie on a plate ,feeling sorry for itself - limp bread , the most frozen processed fish I've seen in a meal iv ever eaten , I said to the waitress . Where's the fish ? There were 2 sticks 2 inches long , shocking . Was busy with old age pensioners . Probably with no taste buds or experience .

Went in for lunch today with my Mum who lives near by - it was quite busy, so thought we would try. We looked at the menu, £.8,95 for all dishes - even the sandwiches, so thought, arr, these must be of good quality being that price, we ordered the fish goujon sandwich with cam with chips and coleslaw. Arrived, the waitress put it in front of me, she said "would you like any sauces?" I replied, Id like some fish please. wheres the fish? - their were 4 slices of limp bread, cheap at best, the meal looked like something from a roadside cafe - with 2 2 inch sticks of processed meat - not sure if it was fish, could of been anything - terrible. Waitress could see we wernt happy, and lifted the bread up and said, youve eaten the fish, but not the bread, I will go tell the "cook" - she didnt come back to us. One of the worst sandwiches I have ever had, no presentation, no quality, not even any fish!!!! Probably does well with old age pensioners with no tastebuds .

Clean friendly good value. Pub food is good and there's a friendly pub atmosphere. Rooms are quiet and spacious.

I stayed here from 30th mat until 2nd June with work. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, all the staff are very friendly and helpful, the food is reasonably priced and very wholesome and tasty. I would recommend staying here and I will stay again if and when I’m in the area again.

Sadly not as good as on previous visits. Service was poor and the food not up to its usual standards.

Updating my review after visiting again today. Portion sizes still weren't great for the price, you just get so few chips with everything, but the gammon was delicious, the chicken and bacon salad had lots of chicken. The Chinese chicken curry was very salty. The people were friendly and polite and helpfully recooked some extra chips we ordered as they were undercooked

Went on a recommendation for Sunday lunch here. Parking at the back. Was not disappointed with the food. Choice of beef turkey and lamb. ALL with a proper large Yorkshire pudding. Rhubarb crumble to finish. Value for money . Good food and service. We are booking again..

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Parking at the back and a pretty good vegan menu. Staff are fab! They had 2 vegan desserts but please note that the meringue in the Blyton mess is not vegan despite it being labelled as such on the menu. They apparently don’t put the meringue in it for the vegan version but you would not know this unless you asked! The trillionaires shortbread was lovely. Bit like a torte. 😋

Called in for lunch first time since refurbishment Service was good Food was fair, not sure its worth the w price increases since the refurbishment makes it worth it. 8.45 for a sandwich with trimmings, lovely rose wine chilled to perfection. Pleasant easy ambience.

Great local pub with excellent rooms separate from the bar area that I and colleagues use regularly. Food is excellent with a hearty breakfast and decent pub grub meals. Called in fir lunch today ....excellent bangers and mash, pie of the day and mash, plus soft drinks sbd coffee for £22

My room was clean and a very good size. The Wifi was brilliant in the room. Ok in the bar. The food was great, good hearty simple food. Will definitely stay again if I am in the area.

First visit for Sunday lunch & we will definitely be returning. Food was v good-proper home cooked fare. Roast lamb, plenty of veg etc and the gravy was real too. Piping hot, relaxed & friendly service. Dog friendly too. Two roasts, glass of wine & a soft drink just over £30. Desserts looked good & at less than a fiver. Can’t go wrong. V happy to recommend.

Went out for tea with my husband one Sunday. Shown straight to our table. Was asked if we wanted any drinks straight away where the waitress recommended the belly pork, the pie and the slamon meals. I opted for the belly pork and my husband chose the creamy chicken and ham pie with chips and peas and gravy. The belly pork came with mash and roast potatoes, peas carrots cabbage swede amd parsnip which was beautiful. My husband said the chip was lovely and proper homemade like your nanna used to make. The desserts was hard to choose as they all sounded lovely but I opted for the after eight mint sundae which was lovely. My husband chose a Jamaican coffee. I would definitely recommend this place. Staff very friendly and food delicious. And a very good price.

Went with my wife and mother in-law and we all had the lunch club 10.95 for 3 courses and we all enjoyed the food it was excellent especially for the price we all had different meals and each one was beautiful, the pub is a beautiful place and the staff we're brilliant, all together an excellent experience and will definitely be returning.

Called for Sunday lunch and all I can say was the food and service was incredible. Possibly one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve ever had. Just disappointed I didn’t have room for dessert because they looked mouth watering so will 100% be back!

Stayed here as we were planning to go to the racetrack the next day. Unfortunately snow last minute cancelled the racing but the accommodation was fab! Clean,comfy, cosy and well equipped. Food at the Black Horse was wonderful. Tried the chicken dippers which were lush and then both had pate and the chicken and ribs combo. Big portions and the food was so tasty. Friendly welcoming staff and finished with a mahoosive full English breakfast! Couldn't fault it!

At nearly 60 years old and lived in Cheshire and Notts and now Lincs, probably the worst pub I have ever been in. Called here for a date. Having just got a second drink at around 9pm we were asked if we wanted another as she was going to cash up. I was a little surprised and said, we are not sure, we may do but depends? At 9.25pm this woman came round and asked us to go and she started putting stools on the benches around us and saying she needed to get off.!!! I didnt know whether to laugh or be mad? It was partly embarrassing, but was asked to drink up and leave, she was locking up. There is no back story to this, we sat round the corner and had a quiet chat whilst there. I will never set foot in this place again.

Excellent lunchtime meal with the family

We visited for a meal on Friday 3rd March and again for Sunday roast. Both meals and service was excellent.
