Went with a group of ex work colleagues for lunchtime special and everyone ewas pleased with the quality of the food,the friendly and efficient service and nice atmosphere. Will definitely return. Really good value

Our Valentine's meal was superb, excellent value for money and the food was excellent along with the waitresses who were very polite. We have eaten there on few occasions and we have never been disappointed. This is for sure my new favourite venue.....excellent food

Our romantic night was spoiled totally, arrived and told where to sit then totally ignored for 20 minutes whilst the people to our left who arrived after us were served to drinks and then their main meal, partner went to the bar to get us a menu and they finally realised we were not happy! Order eventually taken and after an hour and 5minutes had to ask where our food was! It then arrived and although partners meal was satisfactory my Tuscan chicken was very dry and although in a sauce the chicken itself was inedible and over cooked the amount of garlic in the sauce was overpowering, I was able to eat less than half of my meal. We had been regulars and had recommended customers from our business to use the pub but feel we can no longer do so. My partner was annoyed as felt totally ignored and overlooked by the waitresses, after calming him down I began to be annoyed by the wait for our food! At one point we were debating just paying for our drinks and leaving. What a shame

Excellent food, good variety, friendly and efficient staff. They even did something that wasn't on the menu when asked. Very reasonable prices for the good quality food. Have been before and will come again

Recently went to the Gamekeeper as a party of 4 to eat. The food was excellent and the service 1st class. We will definitely be returning again very soon.

We were excited to enjoy our Boxing Day dinner, but unfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations. Upon arrival, we were seated in a room that was freezing cold. Despite raising the issue, the only solution offered was to “close the door—it might make it better.” The room had just one small radiator that was insufficient for the space, and although there was a fire in the room, it was not lit to help improve the temperature. Adding to the discomfort, the room reeked of cigarette smoke. The atmosphere was non-existent. The room was eerily quiet, with no music or background noise, making it feel more like a waiting room than a festive dinner setting. When we requested to be moved to another table, we were told it would be “too much of a squeeze.” To make matters worse, we were informed that if we insisted on moving, they would need us to leave within an hour—an unreasonable suggestion that only added to our frustration. The service didn’t help the situation. As soon as we sat down, we were immediately asked to order drinks before we’d even had time to settle in, despite not being late. After finishing our starters, new cutlery was brought to the table, but instead of being set for each guest, it was simply dropped at the end of the table for us to sort out ourselves. This lack of attention to detail was disappointing. Throughout the meal, the staff rarely checked on us. Aside from a quick glance to see if we’d finished eating, there was little effort to ensure we were comfortable or satisfied. Overall, the experience lacked warmth, atmosphere, and service—both literally and figuratively. For such a special occasion, we had hoped for better service, attention to detail, and a welcoming environment. Unfortunately, it left much to be desired and was a real letdown

Their advert said- "Join us for a magical Christmas meal filled with love, laughter and delicious food." What a huge disappointment! There was no music in the restaurant at all let alone anything Christmassy. Also a very noticeable lack of festive trimmings so definitely not magical! As for the meal it was not delicious. The prawn cocktail was very nice. The turkey took some chewing. My Yorkshire pudding that looked like it had been on the sunbed far too long, and an over-cooked chipolata but the vegetables were okay. We had to ask for cranberry sauce. No cheese cake! The restaurant was quiet so I don't think there had been a rush on it. The Baily's cake was dry even with cream on so was not enjoyable, this was mentioned on paying. Some of the other dinners had issues with their meals too. I can say however that our waitress was excellent. We made the best of the evening we chose not to complain at the time as that was not the way we wanted to end our celebration, which should have been "a magical Christmas meal filled with love, laughter and delicious food."

Wedding Reception We had the best day ever! Staff excellent,service outstanding, food absolutely beautiful, piping hot,great plate full,Tony ( landlord) Top-drawer...Helpful ,kind,welcoming,Happy,( manager) Jess, fabulous, fantastic,great ,helpful,kept me calm,sane,through out all the planning run up to the day,our day was the best everything went to plan,we wouldn't have chose anywhere but our local The keeper for our special day.. All our guests have said best wedding ever! As a family we held my dad’s wake here in March 2023. As regular customers at the Gamekeeper and following our previous experience we decided to book a wake for my mum in September 2024. My mum’s wake was an absolute shambles, we didn’t receive what we asked for and had been agreed. Staff were rude to me on the day, absolutely appalling behaviour on a day that is already emotionally draining. We had to ask for the unlimited coffee to be topped up and experienced eye rolling from another staff member when we asked for this. Butter missing off the buffet, insufficient cutlery and plates out for the buffet and desserts, there were numerous things they didn’t get right on the day. As I didn’t receive an appropriate response from the owner I contacted the manager to feedback my experience. When I was responded to verbally i was told by the manager the owner agreed with some of the points i raised but not all of them, and if i wanted to go and discuss my concerns i could.The manager acknowledged if she had been at work on this day the issues we raised would not have happened. As a family we have been through enough,I don’t take to social media usually I prefer to deal with people directly to feedback my difficult experience as a customer. Following the response I received I need to share my experience, I gave them the opportunity to take on board and listen to my concerns privately. The staff members that were rude to me still hadn’t been spoken to weeks later when I asked, I was informed it wasn’t the right time. I write this review and share my experience as this was my mums final farewell and the Gamekeeper got it so wrong on that day. You never get the chance to do this again, sadly the day has gone.

Omg ! What a lovely evening we had. We went to the Cypriot bbq night . The food was outstanding. But for me the lemon cheesecake was the best I have ever tasted . And I've had a few slices ! Called in on a whim on a Wednesday night. There are 2 distinct areas, these being the bar & lounge/restaurant. The bar features at fifty-something inch flat screen, which appeared to be the main focal point for the dozen or so working men present. The lounge/restaurant had a much softer feel, away from the beer pumps, sky sports & pork scratching hopper,however in spite of there only being two persons in there dining, we were told that we were not able/allowed or permitted, to sit in there. It is what it is, a large village pub, with (seemingly mid priced food,) with a captive audience of local 'blokes.' we won't rush back.

The Gamekeeper is a good place to eat. Food is ok. Lacked atmosphere. No background musik. Just heard conversations from the bar. Parking to the rear of pub.

Can’t understand why our experience was so bad? We came as a foursome to celebrate our friend’s birthday, restaurant fairly quiet, bar filling up as it was a Friday night. Evening started poorly when the bottle of Prosecco we ordered came in an ice bucket, yet the bottle was room temperature. We ordered food, which then took 40 mins to arrive, not an excessive wait if the restaurant had been busy, but there were very few other diners. Of the 4 meals, not one was up to scratch. Florentine Salmon, so overpowered with chilli there was no other taste to it; Tuscan chicken, garlic, garlic, and yet more garlic; Cheese burger, the recipient wasn’t impressed with the overall greasiness of the meat; fish pie, a tiny portion, no veg, and a singular prawn. The young waitress enquired how our meals were, and perhaps I was too honest when I replied “please tell the chef this is terrible”, this gained an awkward giggle as a response, but that was the only response we got. Perhaps there were staffing issues in the kitchen, who knows, but for £120 bill, this definitely felt more poacher than gamekeeper.

Good british pub food, good value and excellent service. I had the lamb carvery, meat was tender and vegetables were not over cooked as is often common elsewhere. Not exceptional. 4 mains and 4 drinks cost ~£70

Had a great meal lastnight. I had the tomahawk pork chop and my wife had the mini mixed grill (still big).All the food was fresh cooked and great tastin. Lovely service in calm surroundings. Will be back

Been here many times but by eck it seems to have gone downhill. We popped in for the teatime two for £22 offer. Soon as we walked in the staff looked bored. It wasn't busy so we got a table straight away. The waitress struggled to take our order, I'm guessing she was new as she looked out of her depth. We both opted for the steak medium rare. The meals came and straight away it was obvious the steak was overcooked to our liking but we carried on anyway. The chips are delicious as were the peas and mushroom. No onion ring which was a surprise. Anyway we chewed through our steak and finished off. If I was to be kind of give it 6 out of ten for the meal. As for the pub itself it's looking tired and the staff need proper training. We'll definitely go again but won't rush back.

Just moved into village. Not had a bad meal here. The waitress who served us all times has been very nice, polite and helpful. I'm not a fan of pub roast dinner but theirs is lovely. Really enjoyed. I'd like a choice though between more roast potatoes and less mash but thats just my preference.

First time visit Sunday afternoon, Nice place with a lovely Sunday menu, two roast chick and one roast beef. Very nice indeed. At a excellent price I thought drinks reasonable too. Most importantly for us Dog friendly with water already placed. We will visit again.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the worst slop my partner & I have had served up to us in our lives. My dish was literally cremated and the chicken my partner ordered had clearly given itself up. The average pair of trainers would have been more tender and succulent. Abysmal. Avoid.

I was having a drive around looking for having a Sunday Lunch. Seen The Gamekeeper on TripAdvisor. Turned up,free parking on site. Only 2 spaces left though. Busy. They have a separate seating restaurant area. This was full. The staff, ladies, manager etc were very accommodating to me. They said I can eat in the Bar area if that's suitable. They had a separate annex which was quiet so I seated myself there. I ended up being the only one and the lady asked if I wanted the football on the large TV. Brilliant customer care and congratulations. Food isn't frozen and cooked. All fresh. 5*

Great place to eat two of us had steak which was beautifully cooked really enjoyable one had gluten free gammon with eggs came with 2 eggs as they didn’t like pineapple which was great and the other had Christmas dinner which they really enjoyed service was good quickly served everything was piping hot.

We went Thursday lunchtime 5 in our party. Table booked for 1.15 we all arrived by 1 and we had to wait an hour to be served bearing in mind we had 2 people who were diabetic the service was not good at all,hope it improves for the Christmas period we won't be going again ,such a shame as a nice place. The staff could crack a smile..

We keep coming back to this place because the home cooked meals are so satisfying! We love the place because the service and the staff are so friendly and the landlord always welcomes you.

We have come to this pub a few times, and always really enjoyed it. We went in just for a drink on Sunday, and the bar was packed as football was on and there were no free tables. We did sit outside for a while but when it got chilly I went back inside to see if any tables had become free. The bar was still full, but the dining room only had one table occupied. I went to the waitress and asked if it was okay to sit in there and just have a drink, as it was cold outside and the bar was full, she said that was perfectly fine and to sit anywhere. We had been sat there for about two mins, when a guy who I assume was the landlord came over and told us to move. He didn't bother to be polite, or ask if we were thinking of ordering food, just told us in no uncertain terms that drinkers had to stay in the other side and that there were plenty of tables. I pointed out there weren't and that one of his staff had said it was fine to sit there and have a drink and he said, well sorry about that but you have to move. I have no problem with not allowing people who aren't ordering food to sit in the dining room. However I do have a problem with being spoken to in a rude and aggressive manner. I see from some other reviews and replies that rudeness isn't unusual at The Gamekeeper. We wont be returning.

Recently moved into the village and The Gamekeeper has quickly become our ‘local’. Excellent food and some great deals on offer. Three course lunch time specials at £12.95 are amazing value, early bird 5-6pm with two mains for £20 and a lovely main menu as well. Looking forward to sampling the new bar snack menu. The food is cooked fresh to order but still comes out in a reasonable amount of time and to be honest, when places serve food rapidly I always wonder as to it’s freshness. Entertainment on a Saturday night often with a band playing and a fab range of drinks. Always a warm welcome with a great team of staff. Cheers everyone !!

Very poor quality food, it was bland and only warm, also the Bar Manager was very rude. My first and last visit. I certainly do not recommend.

Would have been 5 star but for a couple of tiny mistakes . The food was on the whole very nice but missing parts of the main let it down . We will try them again . Reasonable value .

Was told to try restaurant as new owners offering great food, so booked for Friday evening with my wife we had a main course each I ordered the Greek mixed grill and my wife had fillet steak with a pepper sauce. We had a very attentive waitress Amy, also the owner called by and introduced himself and had a little chat very nice, pleasant person. The mixed grill had steak 2x lamb chops 2 x kebabs with bread, Greek salad and chips and was absolutely delicious 😋 My wife steak was excellent and she loved it. We were too full for pudding so we'll just have to go back again 😄 😆

Have been to this pub for meals on several occasions and can honestly say the food is fantastic. Previously service has been good, but took my inlaws in tonight and waited 1 hr for main meal. Had to ask for table to be cleared and have the sweet menu. Waitress cleared half the table and took our sweet order. Again waited ages, 3/4 hr, still no sweets. Got up and payed for what we'd had and left feeling very disappointed. What an absolute shame, the beer is always spot on and food is delicious, staff are always polite, just exceptional slow. Perhaps chef could do with some help.

Drove 14 miles to eat here after searching lots of pubs online. Hadn’t booked a table so turned away. I wish places would say on their website that it’s advisable. Came in for a family meal to celebrate my mums 70th, staff couldn't be more attentive and the food was proper hearty pub grub not a single complaintform our table of 8 . Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a friendly pub and good food.

Food was very good, freshly cooked vegetable lasagne was an unexpected bonus. The apple crumble was particularly good. Reasonable prices at the bar and food too.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience at the gamekeeper, like having a Sunday roast with your extended family. You know the ones with the slightly judgy aunty whose son is in prison, but you don't talk about? But you all silently agree to hide the expensive stuff around them and feel superior? Yeah, overall, solid service would go again.

The meal at the Gamekeeper was lovely, two of us had the steak and ale pie and two had the roast chicken and all were very pleased with them, shame they had run out of cheesecake but nevermind, the restaurant was full when I rang to book a table so we were out in a separate room which was great as we had our 2 year old with us and it was much easier to keep a track of him being the only ones in that room, really enjoyed it and will go again.

We were looking for an off the cuff visit and landed in the Gamekeeper … let’s get the one positive comment out first which is a thank you to the bar manger whose rude and arrogant attitude was sufficient enough for us to walk out and land in the White Swan across the way who were welcoming and accommodating to our party and whose food was superb. Can’t comment on the Gamekeeper food as the reception was less than welcoming and made us feel as though we were lucky to get in anywhere on a Saturday teatime.. unlucky for the Gamekeeper passing up on a further table for 9.

Lovely dinner We turned up last minute after a long days work and was welcomed in quickly by Amy , definitely recommend a lovely dinner .

We've just had our dad's 90th birthday lunch here... a group of 16.. pre ordered our meals which I think was fair for the amount of us to cater for .. the Christmas menu was great for most of us ( slightly limited for the vegetarians amongst us ) but something on there for everyone 😀 We were given a private room at no further cost which was very good, as we were allowed to dress the room up with balloons etc . We also took our own cake and the manager couldn't have been more helpful , providing us with plate and napkins, he even bought my dad a drink which was so nice... only downside was , which I hate to say , but hopefully something could be organised in the future , the meals needed to be delivered a bit quicker along with the vegetables as some people had to start their food while it was hot but then had no vegetables until all had been served .. I must admit though, we couldn't complain about the meals at all as the food was splendid .. thank you for your service gamekeeper

Great food and good service even though they were busy. Dogs allowed too but only in the bar. Atmosphere spoilt by big screen TV showing football with a bunch of lads sat blocking access to the bar watching it!

Decent parking though not too large. Good choices on menu and lunch time specials. GF options available also. All in all an enjoyable lunch....

First time in for Sunday lunch today since the change in ownership/management. The service and treatment of customers has improved hugely since we were last in (or stopped going to be more precise). Lots of great food at a very fair price, will be back soon. Would advise early booking as it does get busy.

Had the lunchtime special £9.95 for two courses, excellent food, would reccomended to everyone. The Real ale I had was yardbird pale ale, spot on too.

Had a lovely 2 course lunch from the specials board for under £10.

My experience here was met with high expectations but left in utter disappointment. This classic looking pub & restaurant is very pretty and look amazing inside, it's warm and comfortable the smell of minted lamb graced my nose when I entered. The waiter was very patient and helpful through our entire dinning experience. This waiter earned the only star that this place deserves. The selection of food was limited to a few dishes which inspired confidence in what I would be eating. Unfortunately not only did it take a fairly long time for food to be served it was served on multiple plates and dishes for one meal. My order in particular was a gammon steak with veg and chips. I said I didn't want tomatoes but mushrooms instead with mushy peas. I didn't get any of that but my gammon was okay, it was a shame that it had a massive spine of fat going all along it. My brother ordered a bacon cheese burger with chips. Again it all came out of multiple dishes, my brother didn't mind his meal but he eats strictly tasteless food so for him to say it tasted good I knew something was wrong with it. My son had a plain burger, good lord that was literal in the chef sense, he brought out a hard bread roll with a black brick, which I can only assume to be the remains of a charred burger, didn't even butter it either. Again served with chips but on multiple dishes. At this point in the service our table was so full from multiple dishes we didn't have much room for drinks. There is so much more negative things to add to this experience but you get the general idea. Don't come here hoping for good food, but definitely decent enough for a drink or two.
