The Black Horse Inn in West Lindsey

We had lunch here today. I had scampi and my mum had Hunters Chicken. The pub is well situated on a corner in the lovely quiet village of Blyton. They do a lunch club in the week which gives you a discount I think. The menu is large with a food choice from sandwiches and jacket potato to full mains including fajitas and curry to traditional pies and sausages. The staff were all lovely and friendly. The portion was big! They serve proper chips too, not frozen chips which was nice. I had a nice portion of scampi and the mushy peas were straight out of a chip shop. Tasty and reasonably priced. If you're after a nice quiet pub meal which is hearty and honest I'd say it's a great place to eat or celebrate. The menu also had an under 12s section for the kids. Parking is around the back and they do accommodation too.

A real treat to eat here! Rob had the liver( I don’t like liver but he said it was cooked to perfection and how he remembers his grandma made it ) and I only had a starter . I was so full with my soup and bread ! Could tell it was home made - tomato and basil was todays special . The waitresses were fantastic and it was so busy they managed to treat every one brilliantly. Highly recommend!

I recently stayed here for a work trip and would highly recommend for food and accommodation. The rooms are spacious and easily accessible with everything you could need, for a very reasonable cost. The location was also quiet and secure with local amenities available within a few minutes walk. All staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. I opted for the beef roast in the evening; an excellent meal with ample vegetables and a decent, thick gravy, it was great value too. Didn’t have a pudding as the roast was so filling. Breakfast was a preordered bacon sandwich with a cup of tea, that was ready on time and cooked very well. I felt looked after by all staff members. Overall a very good stay and I would return here again for business or leisure.

Wasn't particularly hungry so just ordered a prawn cocktail (starter) . It was nice, but for the money, it was poor. My daughter's salad garnish was bigger!! It's put me off visiting again.

Wow!! What can I say. The food was absolutely amazing! We went for steak night and the steak was gorgeous. Cooked to perfection, everything that came with it was cooked beautiful too. We also had starters and puddings which again were gorgeous and good traditional British food. We will definitely be returning.

Came for Sunday lunch, wasn't the best I've had unfortunately. The beef was tough to cut, veg over done and a bit lacking in flavour. Might have been a bad serve as other tables seemed to have fresher veg.

We went for the amazing steak night deal, 2 for 24£! Was cooked exactly as requested and the staff members were extremely accommodating.

Our new go to restaurant in the local area My family of 5 came to the black horse for a weeknight meal, must say it was outstanding, taking advantage of their kids eat for £2 offer it was a great price. I personally went for the lasagna, so flavoursome and such large portions. My hubby chose the pub grill- he said it was cooked to perfection, large portion yet again and definitely worth the price. Our eldest chose the steak pie and after stealing a bite myself I will definitely be trying that next time, it was fantastic! The two littles had a bangers and mash each, great portions for children’s meals and for £2 too! Staff were so friendly and attentive, always with a smile. Washed it all down with some deserts and I have to give a special mention to the cheesecake of the day! It was fab.

As soon as we walked through the door we were made to feel welcome, the atmosphere was warm and friendly, the food was amazing and the prices were more than reasonable.

We visited this pub for a family funeral - stayed for two nights and ate breakfasts funeral buffet and evening meals … including Sunday roast - the food was wonderful and service good … staff were charming, friendly and attentive. Quality of food served was wonderful and prices were extremely good value! Went to the Thursday Steak night last night and it was delicious. Would highly recommend, really good food and great value at two for £22. Staff made us feel really welcome. Five star!

If you want nice homemade food. This is definitely the place for you. Food's always served fresh and plenty of different beers to try.

We have just spent a weekend at the Black Horse. We had wanted a rural, village pub that was friendly and relaxed with good food and comfortable accommodation. We weren't disappointed! As residents, we were able to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner over a few days and cannot compliment the front of house and kitchen teams enough, starting with the friendly welcome from Sue. The food was gorgeous and I can only say that the portion sizes beat me a few times..lol. Excellent value for money. The accommodation was very clean, spacious and comfortable.

Me and my wife fancied trying somewhere new for some Pub grub so we decided to try here. The food was very nice especially the Steak Pie and home made chips. We were served at our table by a young lady called Migen and she was lovely and gave us great service. My only negative was when we were paying the bill. We went to the bar and was attended to by I assume the manager who had very short hair and she was been quite horrible to the girl who served us at our table Migen. I said that she gave us lovely service and we Thanked Migen but it didn't make any difference and the lasy behind the bar continued to be quite horrible to the young girl and I found it very unprofessional especially Infront of customers. I felt quite bad for Migen as she looked very young and I'm sure she was trying her best. Nonetheless, it was overall a good experience.

Excellent Sunday roast. Great value for money. Friendly staff. I'd say no need to order a starter if you go for the roast, unless really hungry. Will be back again

Lovely pub and they have a separate gluten free menu! First place I’ve been since gf diagnosis where they have gf alternatives instead of just taking it off your plate! GF Yorkshire on a roast was the highlight 😋 lovely chatty staff and enjoyed the meal, we will definitely be back to explore the rest of the menu 😋

A lovely, cosy pub with friendly and welcoming staff. We really enjoyed the Sunday roast and gluten free options, well priced and good portions. Nice to see well behaved dogs are allowed too. Will definitely be back for one of the weeknight specials. The staff are great. Highly recommended.

I won the steak for 2 competition, through Facebook. And oh my word, the food did not disappoint! It was fantastic, steak cooked exactly how I asked, lovely Stilton sauce, beer battered onion rings 👌🏼 I will definitely return for more food!

Well what can say. We stayed here on their steak night and it was absolutely amazing, every last bite. I would highly recommend it!

We didn't stay here but had food in the pub twice whilst we stayed in glentham at a caravan site. Everything we had was gorgeous proper home cooked food, dog friendly, fast service, nothing is scrimped on everything we had we cleared the plate! We're only about an hour away from our home and will definately come back.

Wednesday lunch was at the Black Horse, Blyton. Their “Lunch Club” menu is incredibly good value at £9.45 for a main course, £11.45 for 2 courses, and £12.95 for 3 courses. There were four of us and we chose liver and onions served with a Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes and 4 vegetables, roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings, and ham and egg, served with chips and peas. Everyone enjoyed their lunch, and we had 4 empty plates to prove it! The staff are warm and friendly, and very efficient - orders are quickly taken and the food soon follows. Lunchtimes are very busy and it’s better to book if you can.

Four of us had a lunchtime menu with drinks. Unfortunately, aside from the pleasant friendly staff, 3 of our meals were disappointing. My lasagne was tasteless, my husband’s Xmas pie was very unchristmassy and so small and our friend’s roast had no roast potatoes- just mash. The fourth diner enjoyed his curry but they served him rice after he asked for chips. However, they amended the mistake by bringing chips too! The last few meals we’ve had there have been disappointing yet they used to be so good. Real shame.

My meal , which arrived surprisingly quickly , , was plentiful and tasty. It was warm rather than hot but the real issue was the gloopy gravy. Like wallpaper paste and not at all pleasant. Shame.

Incredible! A jolly welcome from The bar staff, serving piping hot meals. Came with the grandkids and they are fussy ! Took advantage of their £2 kids meal offer ! Such good portions ! They ate it all up without complaint so it’s a YES from us !! Will tell our friends and definitely return

I went earlier during the year and loved it so much I had to come back and try something else, honestly 10/10, we had a pub grill cooked to perfection, lasagna with a side of garlic bread that was lovely and the hunters chicken which was so flavoursome. So glad I came back, staff were great and so friendly, food was fantastic. I would reccomend to anyone passing by!!

Called in for lunch first time in a long time Food was average not sure 3 bean curry and a couple of glasses of wine was worth £22 wouldn't have been charged that in Leeds. 3 bean curry was predominately tomato and yellow peppers all heat and little flavour. May be a while before I return

Visited the BLACK HORSE in Blyton for lunch.Staff were very friendly but the food was poor.The batter was not cooked,still wet inside.Simply horrible.So bad we couldn’t eat it.The staff were very apologetic but said the chef stated it was cooked.I think he needed to have his sight tested.The chips were not fresh either looked as if they had been reheated.We will not go there again until we hear they have a new chef. Very very disappointing.

Handy location for visiting the nearby Showground. The room was a very good size for the price compared to a lot of other places and had plenty of storage spaces for clothes as well as numerous sockets for charging phones/tablets etc. Probably the only tiny improvement I could suggest would be to not have the pull cord for the bathroom light behind the door in the corner - you have to close the door behind you to get to it. Unlike some pub rooms, these are actually set at the back of the property rather than above it, so you are generally a little bit further from the main road/traffic noise. I would say however, maybe a tiny bit of noise proofing in the walls would be welcomed as you could hear anyone who was enjoying the beer garden which was outside of my room's window. There was an optional breakfast that could be added to the rooms and you are welcome to eat in the restaurant on evenings as with any other customer, but on this occasion I did not eat here purely because of my work schedule so I can't comment on the food (although it did smell nice when I went to check in with the (lovely) bar staff) Being autistic can make me struggle with routine change and being away from home comforts, but to my surprise I slept very well on both nights and if it wasn't for work I absolutely would have stayed in bed a lot longer. There was also free WiFi with each room having its own dedicated code. I would definitely consider staying here again!

Had Sunday dinner yesterday was not impressed at all two small slices of beef and loads of tinned peas. Did notice most of the customers eating steak pie that look loads better. We like a nice bottle of wine not jack Rabbit so probably wouldn’t return

Been today for Sunday lunch as we have a few times I ordered the turkey dinner and the slice on the top was turkey underneath it was thinly sliced pork I politely told the waitress and she went to the kitchen to tell the chef . I was told the chef said ot was turkey and couldn't do anything about it . I'm a cook myself and definitely know the difference between pork and turkey needless to say we will not be returning. Very disappointed

Only 5 miles from home this is a great little pub for good honest food. We visited with friends & our dog. Drinks served first & food came quite quickly after. There was an extensive menu with an alternative one for our gluten intolerant friend. We all had something different & we were all happy with our choices. A good plate full served piping hot! Lots of dessert choices too with a separate section of gluten free puds. We've been several times & never been disappointed so would certainly recommend 😁

The old traditional pub layout makes cosy “nooks “ to enjoy a meal without the noise from other diners . Friendly staff and clean well decorated pub & toilets ! Would recommend

I love eating Sunday lunch at Black Horse. The portions are a really good size with a good various of vegetables, roast potatoes and mash. We asked for extra gravy which the waitress got for us straight away. We didn’t have to wait to long even though it was busy. Staff are always friendly and helpful and we even get a doggie treats for our 2 dogs. Would highly recommend a visit.

Treated terribly. Pub was half empty on Friday evening at 7 pm. We bought drinks then asked to order a meal. We were told by one member of staff it would be okay but half hour wait, then another just rudely interrupted and said nastily “ we’re not taking walk ins””!!! So because we had bought the drinks we sat down and waited for half an hour, went to get a menu to be confronted with a nasty manner and” what are you getting those for- kitchens closed”. HOW RUDE! WHAT HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Last time we came here a few months ago the place was heaving and food was superb. The fact that it was half empty on a lovely Friday evening just says it all. Will NEVER go again and will make sure anyone who uses Blyton race circuit knows how down hill it’s gone!

I called into the black horse inn. And had a meal I had lasagne chips. and side salad it was beautiful the staff were all very friendly couldn't fault the place and I will be back

Very nice meal. We arrived and car park had only a few spaces left. We were greeted inside and quickly shown to a table when I thought we might be waiting. The service was pleasant and the meals arrived quickly. Chicken curry for myself from the lunch club menu. A reasonable plate for a lunch. My wife had the scampi from the main menu and a larger plate size. I sneaked one they were crispy and beautifully cooked. I topped off with the brownie the desert of the day. I had it with ice cream but could of had cream or custard. I have to say the best brownie I have ever had as I like them moist as this was. Definitely coming back now how do I find out when brownie is desert of the day again

Really loverly meal , very generous portions, the only complaint was the price of soft drinks , £4.10 for a coke prices not available until you get the bill.

Very friendly behind the bar, although we only just made it in time to have dinner as they stop taking orders at 7:45 p.m. I had delicious gammon steak. We were staying for one night in the annexe bedrooms. It was the hottest week of the year so I was looking forward to having some air conditioning as advertised in the bedroom. Sadly it didn't work at all. The control panel said it was on but nothing at all was coming out. Very very disappointing and extremely stuffy in the room even with the window wide open. We have to leave at 7:30am but breakfast didn't start until 8:30 and there was absolutely no one around to talk to about the faulty air conditioning. Otherwise it could have been a lot better.

Unable to review the rooms as we did not stay we went for food only. We was passing through and spotted the black horse inn and decided to stop for lunch, I'm haply to say we did too. From the moment we pulled into the carpark we were delighted as rhe grounds are in a lovely setting. We stepped inside and immediately greeted warmly by a lady behind the bar and quickly got us a table that we were shown too by another member off staff. We opted for the lunch 3 course menu and was not disappointed for a moment. For the price of £12.95 the menu is not extensive but wholesome for sure and enough choice for us. We soon had a drink and ordered food from the table and it very quickly came out piping hot and delicious 😋 (it's like they knew we was coming and what we would order) the portions are plenty and the quality is excellent. We will be returning to sample other items from tje menu soon for sure and bringing family along too.. We had mint and pea soup and nacho starters, battered haddock chips and peas, pie of the day with chips and peas for mains with bread and butter pudding, treacle sponge and custard for deserts and left feeling ready for a nap.. The staff where all very friendly and the restraunt is very nice and cosy inside. Don't drive by stop and check it out!

Good food Good service reasonable prices

Please note we have not rated rooms as we did not book to stay. Family Sunday Lunch on Father's day. Great meal with fresh produce and a choice of meat. Other menu choices were also available and note all servings were quite large. Small selection of starters and deserts on this day but still more than enough for making a choice. Again all good quality and substantial portions. Service was excellent being both attentive and of a pleasant, helpful and friendly manner.

First time visiting today for food. Lovely food with excellent staff in a warm friendly atmosphere and I managed to find the entrance even on my first visit. Highly recommended

Honestly, beautiful! Have been twice now and both times the food has been fresh, flavoursome and perfectly cooked. Will 100% be going back at some point for another fix, and i will always recommend trying this place to friends and family. For the quality of food served, it is totally fair priced!

Our visit to the Black Horse Inn was a 5/5 experience. Sometimes, we don't feel very welcome in some venues - for a variety of reasons: other patrons for instance - because of a disabled child (it is what it is) and we were welcomed so genuinely it took us aback. We're looking forward to returning on our adventures 😊

Great food lovely staff all freshly cooked.The pub is full of atmosphere. I find the television showing fires and flowers a bit off putting myself but the others in the group love it.

We had a lovely meal at lunchtime at the Black Horse. We were greeted by a lovely lady who was very accommodating finding us a table that suited my wife who gas visual issues. Two courses fir £10.45 is a very good offer, portion sizes were excellent. We both had fish and chips which was beautiful with a really tasty fish. Fur desert apple strudel crumble with Custard which was again very tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout and it was an excellent experience.

We were visiting family who live in Scunthorpe, and there were seven in our party. The food was very nice, all produce locally sauced. I highly recommend a visit here. All the staff are very friendly too.

We called in on the off chance for something to eat , we arrived the lady behind the bar was lovely she said they were fully booked in the restaurant area but had a few tables in the bar area if we were ok to eat there, we choose the lunch menu two courses for £10.45 , I myself had chicken pie with chips and peas the pie was to die for amazing taste , and the other member of the party had gammon which was said to be cooked to perfection, we then ordered pudding which we though the portions could of been a little bit bigger than they were but what do you expect for another £2 .. Would definitely recommend calling for wonderful place and atmosphere staff couldn’t do enough for you brilliant place..

We ordered the main menu, and we had a little wait, but it was well worth it. The food was excellent. We would highly recommend this place, but no problem. It has a nice, friendly atmosphere, and i will use again.

Great food - 6 of us ordered different meals and we were all happy with them. Portions are generous which especially pleased the 3 husbands in our party - the pork belly and the beef stroganoff especially stood out as quality food. Nice deserts, friendly staff and good service means we will definitely be going back to our new favourite place.

We went for a family meal for 5 people, the restaurant was empty and we was stuck on the smallest table possible for 5 adults. The starters were really greasy and tasteless, chips were soggy and extremely greasy, Pie was nothing special with tasteless gravy, chicken was overcooked. Worst meal I’ve had and prices were extortionate for what is was, came home £130 lighter, Definitely won’t be back!!

The food was great value for money and well cooked. The wine was very expensive,£22pr bottle for a not particularly good Chardonnay however the bitter was excellent and well looked after Staff where very helpful but seating very uncomfortable, overall a good experience,as a group we will go back in the future but see if there is different seating available.

Christmas Lunch, group of 5 retired ex work mates. Excellent meal, excellent service, and good value for money Staff very accomodating and pleasent, all 5 members of group agree it was the best Christmas Pub lunch we have had.

Great staff, very cheerful and happy to help, with good customer service throughout my stay. The food was lovely, pre warning, the portions are on the larger side. The sleeping accommodation was very good value indeed, very clean, very spacious and very comfortable. I would highly recommend and would stay again for sure.
