The Black Horse Inn in Calderdale

I took colleagues for an overnight stay whilst away on business. The whole team were so accommodating for our party and made it a stress free stay. The rooms were excellent, the building was full of character and the restaurant food was delicious. A great stay, will definitely be returning the next time we are in the area!

Stayed here for 3 nights while visiting family in the area. Charming restaurant, bar, and Inn. Room was well kept, quiet and convenient. Staff were welcoming. Breakfast very good. Plenty of parking. Would definitely stay here again!

We had a lovely Annual Dinner Dance for my dance class. We have been coming here for a few years now and the reason we return is because the food is delicious, the staff are kind and helpful and the venue is beautiful. The whole evening was lovely, we couldn't have wished for more.

A pleasant country pub/restaurant with rooms in Clifton on the outskirts of Brighouse. Lovely interior decor with a modern rustic feel. We were in the Burgundy bedroom, in the building next to the pub, which was a large and bright room with a low traditional beam running through the middle, (I am 5'5" and could just walk under it, but my 6' husband had to remember to duck), it had a large king sized bed and a lovely white tiled bathroom with shower, which all looks new. However, there were several things broken, ie. The toilet seat, the tap was loose, the lock on the small wardrobe door was hanging off and was difficult to close. There was Lakeland coffee maker and 4 pods but we were unable to get hot water for the tea bags or sachets of coffee. I mentioned this to the proprietor and she arranged for a kettle to be left in the bedroom, however, this only worked if you kept your finger on the button. I was also slightly disappointed with the breakfast. We ordered a vegetarian breakfast with mixed brown and white toast. It took quite a while to be served, despite it not being busy, the tea was only look warm, not hot, and I had to ask for the toast, which the waitress got wrong. I also thought the portion size was small and the vegetarian sausages were cheap ones. I noticed that the waitresses were not very attentive, not clearing dirty dishes away, letting people sit with dirty dishes piled up instead of removing them once finished, not checking if customers needed anything etc etc. Although it was a lovely place and the staff were friendly, things need to be tightened up, both in the rooms and the staff training. I don't think it was worth £129 per night as it is.

Stayed one night with dinner b&b for family celebration on the Sunday also held in the Black Horse. There is much to commend within the rather austere exterior, this belies a wonderfully comfortable and modern interior . Having been in the same family ownership for 70+ years, this experience and local knowledge shines through. The staff are amazing , very friendly and hard working from the owner land lady to the staff looking after the rooms of which there are 20..! The food is exemplary and a big shout out to the chef, I have never had such tasty chips ( cooked 3 times ) and the steak and ale pie is to die for, made and cooked on the premises. The rooms are large and modern with a bath…! I would thoroughly recommend this hotel be it for a few nights stay or a family evening meal.

Sited on a fairly quiet road, we used their function room for a wake, food was excellent and the staff went above any expectations

Lydia and her team were amazing on our wedding day Everything was organised and we had the best day. Food was amazing and the bridal suote-deluxe room was stunning! We cannot wait to return for pur 1st anniversary.

This is a beautiful venue for a Christmas Dinner Dance. My dance class recently had ours and we had a fabulous time. The room was tastefully decorated, the food was delicious and the staff very polite.

We didn't have a reservation but we were lucky enough to get a table in what turned out to be a full restaurant on a Tuesday night. We both had a starter followed by the absolutely excellent steak & ale pie which we were assured was truly home made. It was so good one of us had it again the following night whilst the other had the equally enjoyable chicken dish. Friendly staff added to what was two enjoyable evenings at the Black Horse.

The Black Horse really hit the spot! A old-world 17th Century Inn, with all modern conveniences added sympathetically: dog friendly, yet spotlessly clean. Kind and patient reception staff, able and willing to cope with our changing plans: a wise and knowledgeable landlord, presiding over a good store of craic, and very well chosen liquid refreshment. Kitchen and serving staff with apparently all the time in the world, but coping with a busy wedding celebration, and a well put together separate menu for the dining room. All of them with a friendly smile on their faces! Within a stones throw of the busy M62 corridor and its cities, yet a haven of peace, tranquilly and relaxation. And all this at a very reasonable cost. We were travelling to visit family - we will make any excuse to return for a rest! A big thank you to all the staff at the Black Horse, and we will see you again soon I hope.

We had our wedding reception here in June. The weather was perfect and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The food and drink were very good. We were able to sit outside in the courtyard into the evening which was lovely. The venue is beautiful and Lydia was very supportive and helpful when planning our reception and on the day itself.

From choosing as our venue to our wedding day, we've had so much fun planning our day. It was definitely perfect, having the best weather and finally having the same name as my boys. I loved every minute of it. I would definitely recommend as a venue, communication was excellent, from picking the details of our day to it actually happening was smooth. Any requests we asked for was accommodated, Lydia was helpful whenever we had questions or ideas. I couldn't of picked a better venue for our day, it suited us to a tee!

Lovely place food was great and a good price. Room was comfy and I was made to feel at home by the staff. I left my car key in the room and the lady rang me (I was in the works van) to tell me that I had. It was too far to go back so she very kindly sent it on.

What a lovely place. They were good enough to squeeze us in last minute, so we could feed a hungry, ratty boy,and my wife and son (11) too. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and let us move into the bar to eat so we could play cards and generally be a bit louder than the lovely but quiet restaurant area. The food was excellent, my son having a 'lush' dessert. Lovely ambience and decoration. We would definitely come again if it wasn't for the 5 hour drive from our house, shame.

We held our wedding here. Lydia our wedding planner and her team were phenomenal, nothing was too much trouble down to every last detail. We led on what we wanted and Lydia made it happen. The wedding breakfast was exceptional and served by warm, welcoming staff. A few of our guests stayed in the hotel, the service was excellent with staff going above and beyond. We would highly recommend The Black Horse Inn and Bert’s Events to anyone who is looking for a wedding venue or just a nice place to stay. Fantastic!

The food tasted as good as the venue looked! Even some of my family mentioned they were surprised at the efficiency, speed, and quality of the food - being able to serve about 40 people without issue, in what could appear to be a smaller-sized venue. The meal portions were generous, and delicious! By the end I was both wanting more, and very full.

We had our wedding here in June 2023 wow What an amazing day. From the moment we first spoke to Lydia to the day we checked out, the whole experience was perfect. Lydia and her team worked so hard on the day to make everything just as we wanted it. Anyone booking their wedding here will not be disappointed. All our guests were very impressed with the food service and venue. Also the DJ Nigel kept everyone up and dancing. What a day!

Just back from a night away at the black horse we stayed in pierieer jouet room bed so comefy added bonus some rooms over road from pub in courtyard so nice and quite .The pub and restaurant are beautiful and full of character great choice of beers and gins we ate in the restaurant had mussels starter and rib eye steak mains both delicious after a great nights sleep we had full English breakfast again great products and very good service from staff lovely to meet andrew jayne and lydia we will be back in the near future thankyou for your hospitality

We held our wedding at the Black Horse and wow, what a professional service and the rooms & building just superb! The meals were all fabulous and all of staff just so helpful. Lydia was our main contact and did everything she could to make our day so special. Just Superb!

We booked our wedding initially for May 2020 and had to move the date three times. Lydia at The Black Horse Inn was tremendously helpful, accommodating and reassuring throughout the whole process. I stayed at the hotel the night before the wedding with my bridesmaid. Our room was fantastic in size, lovely and quiet and tastefully styled. On the morning of the wedding we enjoyed a fully cooked breakfast and the service was quick and friendly. We chose to use the Clifton room for our ceremony which was a good size for our 50 guests. This meant we could then move effortlessly to the beautiful courtyard which we had exclusive use of for the day. We held our reception in the Wellington Suite and this was decorated beautifully, perfectly matching our colour scheme and giving an ambient and inviting feeling for our guests. The room has its own bar and the service was fantastic. We had chosen a BBQ for our wedding breakfast and the choice of food was excellent, everything was so well cooked and absolutely delicious. The Wellington Suite was swiftly turned around for our evening reception and the celebrations continued with a DJ. We chose an evening buffet of sausage rolls, pork pies and hand cut chips which were also delicious. Each room at The Black Horse Inn is individually styled and we had chosen to stay in the Green room for our wedding night. This is a huge room, it is pleasantly decorated, has a seating area and a large bathroom. It was peaceful and very comfortable. All our guests told us how much they had enjoyed the day and all remarked on the quality of the food and how wonderful the venue and staff were. Those who stayed overnight also joined us at breakfast in the morning, where again the service and food was impeccable. We are so glad we chose this venue as our whole day was absolutely amazing from start to finish, everything was seamless and we were made to feel like nothing was too much, so a massive thank you to Lydia and all the hard working team at The Black Horse Inn!

I have eaten at The Black Horse at least 20 times over the last 5 years being faitly local. Always loved the food there. Obviously a change of hands and chef during lockdown and I was disappointed on my last visit.Service very good but the food isnt a patch on what it used to be.

We visited for a wedding which was wonderful. The room was lovely and well equipped. We had breakfast which was a bit of a let down, especially after the food at the wedding. There was no food menu and we were only offered a choice of a cooked breakfast and toast. We did not get offered any juice even though other tables had this, so we had to ask. Left us disappointed, needs better organisation and more choice.

The idea of eating in restaurants is to taste food that you can’t cook at home but I could have easily cooked that Sunday roast we had yesterday and better.It was ok but I think we had two roast potatoes and two thin small sizes of meat the beef was tough aswell. The £4.50 cauliflower cheese arrived half way through the meal. £45 for two Sunday roasts half a lager and a lemonade, we won’t be returning. Hare and hounds is miles better.

My husband and I were married here at the end of July. Our wedding was postponed last year but fortunately this time it went ahead. Lydia and her team have been first class, nothing was too much trouble and their attention to detail was second to none. The food was amazing, the service impeccable, the layout and setup of the rooms impressive and the DJ was pretty good too. Even though it poured down with rain all day we couldn’t have wished for a more special day. From the owners Jane and Andrew and Lydia and all the staff we are just so grateful we chose your establishment for our special day.

We stayed for a wedding and what a great time we had! Beautiful setting, comfortable room, superb staff and the food amazing!! We particularly enjoyed the vegan breakfast. Thank you for looking after us so well we will certainly be back!

Walked in with a colleague on the off chance we could get a table in the courtyard for dinner as it was a Wednesday evening we thought it would be quiet. Staff were very welcoming and although it was busy did get us a table in the courtyard. The menu wasn’t as creative as my last visit but the food we had was superb. My college had the pie and I had the salmon. Service was excellent even though it was busy and the courtyard was very well kept. A must if you are in the area!

We attended the black horse as a family of 5 for a silver wedding meal believing we would have the option of the pre lockdown menu. Very limited menu and nothing like we've had before. The food took 45 mins to arrive and was very very disappointing. The desserts were inedible. The manager did take off the desserts from the bill but that funny make up for the poor standard of food. When I complained I was told that they are concentrating on their weddings at the moment and have difficulty with storage of fresh food for the week. We would not go back in the future. £100+ for 2 fish and chips, a salmon, a pulled pork burger and a steak pie. Very poor indeed. What a shame

We had a lovely time at the black horse inn. The staff were friendly and welcoming, in particular Lily who was very helpful and friendly! The room was clean and had everything you would expect and more. Comfortable bed, tea/coffee area, toiletries, and even an extra blanket for the bed and a robe. The shower and bath were great, clean and lots of space. We ate a meal in the restaurant in the evening which was stunning! Great portion sizes and very tasty. The only issue we had was with breakfast. There was only the option of a cooked breakfast and they did not have a vegetarian option. We were told we could have the breakfast minus the meat products and whilst what we received was sufficient to fuel us for the day it looked very sad and was very lacking. As I don’t eat eggs either I had mushrooms, a pot of beans and a tomato with some toast. Considering the price of the room I would have expected a better breakfast option. Some veggie sausages would be a good idea and perhaps some form of potato side. Overall great stay and would love to come again one day, but would bring my own breakfast products next time.

friendly welcome however it went downhill from there. The restaurant was socially distanced however NONE of the staff wear face masks... very disconcerting particularly given that calderdale js in a high risk covid area. It took over 3.5hours for a table of only 5 to be served barely a 3 course meal; not only that but 1 of these meals was inedible and the other cold. When we complained the managers were no where to be seen. Since we have received emails abusing us for our actions (a table of where the average age is 40) BOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK

This was our third visit and even during these strange times has not lost any charm that it had before.Jane is so welcoming our party of 4 and 2 canines and could not do enough to make our stay so good .We will definitely return to this peacefull place and what they have done to make all weather seating outside with little income coming in is commendable. Although a reduced menu because of reduced capacity the food was fantastic as is the breakfast to start your day and so unrushed

We loved our stay at The Black Horse Inn. The room was lovely and the owners where very friendly and professional. The food in the restaurant is excellent and could not be faulted. The breakfast choice however is a let down. No breakfast cereals or continental option. When I asked for if they did a vegetarian breakfast I was told I could have the normal breakfast but without the meat products!! The breakfast came and I received a plate with scrambled egg, beans, 3 mushrooms and half a tomato, it looked very sad and pathetic. This was beyond disappointing and I did not bother going down for breakfast on the second day. The Black Horse's website states it is Vegetarian friendly but I have never had a sadder breakfast. Come on everyone, Vegetarian options are common in every other establishment. This did spoil our stay.

loved it first time we visited , been over a year, life just takes up a lot of your time, so decided it's time to go out for a meal again, wanted the best so booked here again.good food and service stays with you, it's not something you forget, when we say where do you want to eat, both of us said "the black horse".we absolutely love eating here, the food is beautiful , the staff helpful and pleasant again. as far as we are concerned they have maintained a high standard of quality food and service that has not diminished at all.high standards at it's best and it's a pleasure to eat there.

Thank you so much for enabling my daughter to get married in August. It was perfect in spite of all the restrictions! Nothing was too much trouble for Lydia and her team. Although due to changing covid restrictions wedding plans had to keep adapting, Lydia was very supportive and kept my daughter and now son in law informed. The day was just fantastic and the food and service was excellent. Thank you again Black Horse Inn. X

During the C19 Lockdown The Black Horse are offering a selection of take away meals. Prices range from about £7 - £12. Some you have to heat up (but clear instructions are always enclosed); the standard is always good. So far we have tried Fish and Chips - the amount of chips looks small but it is just right; the Sunday Lunch - all the trimmings were included, and the steak pies. The latter were gorgeous and so filling we had to save the puddings (chocolate brownie with sauce, also delicious) for the following day. Ordering is easy as it is on-line and they send a confirmation. There always seems to be a vegetarian option. It is proving to be a treat for us at this difficult time. We had only tried the pub on a few occasions previously but can't wait for the 'return to normal' and to become regulars.

I live in Essex, have been looking for B&B to attend Memorial Service, at Halifax Cathedral, for Ann Martin. Ann was my friend 43yrs, also former councillor and former Mayor of Brighouse. She had previously booked me into the Inn for her Mayoral Inauguration few years ago so I knew beds comfy and breakfast tasty.I phoned this evening a polite lady tried to pinpoint her B&B and my friend's local address.What a sweetie! When I told her about attending Service, she asked me where it would be held, then she explained distance from her B&B and Halifax Cathedral.So understanding that I was upset, distracted and helpful.Thank you.Sheila

The Black Horse has a great reputation so we went with high expectation. The restaurant is quite small and I thought the table of 4 was too small for 4 people especially when space is needed for the platter . Considering the price you are paying I would have expected more space.

After visiting/staying over this was our 1st choice for our wedding reception. Whilst they cater for bigger ones we wanted a family afternoon tea with just casual drinks in the bar after. It was delicious and the staff as always were charming. Would recommend for any occasion

After our family had used this wonderful establishment for a few years our son noticed that they did a wedding package. The package included everything that him and his wife to be wanted with nothing omitted. Well that was a year ago which at the time seemed like a very long way off, however that year passed very quickly with a few meeting taking place with Lydia to ensure the day would go as everyone had planned.Those meetings certainly helped as the day came on 02/02/2020 with everything falling into place just as Lydia had said, from the brides room on the night before until everyone who stayed left on the morning after the wedding. From the wonderful accommodation to the excellent food on the day which was not scrimped on showing their kitchen to be one of the best in the local area if not further afield. The service was first class from everyone on the day with the smiling happy face of Damian who is second to none when it comes to service and always going the extra mile as Lydia also managed to do, not only the day before but for the majority of the reception to be their at breakfast the day after.We cannot thank enough everyone for the wonderful day that they gave family and friends of the bride and groom. So from a very happy mother and father of the groom we advise anyone reading this to give consideration to this establishment when considering a wedding venue as you will not be disappointed as what the staff say they will do is exactly what will be done.One other bit I would like to add, is that our wedding anniversary fell on the same day and we were very surprised and pleased, that even with all the other planning for the wedding, the staff still found time to send us an anniversary card which we thought was a wonderful gesture! Thanks everyone!Would I recommend? ......... a definite YES!Would I use again? ............. a definite YES!(But hopefully not for another wedding at least not another one for our son! What a great little find. In a small village - Clifton- on the way to Brighouse, this was conveniently a short hop off the motorway and a great find. The place is obviously focused on good quality food ( and quality accommodation too by the looks of it. Two mulled wines and a fine selection of bins, accompanied our fixed price 2 course menus at around £20 each. The service was good, and we had a short wait in the lounge while the table was prepared. Queen is scallops and soup for starters, were delicious. Added to that an excellent rump steak and extra veg, was plenty to keep us all happy. The steaks were done exactly as we asked, and we finished off with a couple of nice cups of coffee. It was a thoroughly pleasant lunch break with friends.

Have nothing but good things to say. Staff were lovely and friendly going to extra mile to give me a quiet room. The accommodation was immaculate, well designed, spacious and cosy. Bathroom had spacious bath and was good size.Food was excellent 5 out of 5!

Travelling home from Leeds to Chorley and found this little gem. I can't have Gluten but no dredded folder but just the normally menu that they'd tweak to make sure it's OK for me. Had an amazing roast dinner and the Mrs enjoyed a fantastic salmon. Think we'll be trying to go here again! Oh and our dog was welcomed and they sorted him some water without us having to ask. We have enjoyed two fantastic family meals over the festive period. The location is perfect for our family coming together from Manchester and Bradford. Great food, attentive and friendly service. We'll be back.

Loved this place as it was full of atmosphere and charm.Very busy being Boxing day but the staff kept on top of the service very well with a smile.The menu had its own twist on the normal fayre & we will all very happy with our choices.Well worth visit.Dont miss the Parkin with toffee sauce.Mmmm.

The Black Horse was the first wedding venue we visited, we visited other wedding venues, but nothing compared to The Black Horse, it was perfect for what we were looking for.

We have for 3 years now, got together as a family in their function room here at The Black Horse.

We have eaten here a few times and always been impressed with the quality of the food and service.

Fantastic food and service , reasonable price, friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere. You can eat in the bar with tha same menu as the resturant.

Another great meal at The Black Horse! I loved the black pudding scotch egg starter and my hake and beans (Spanish style) was nearly as good - just a tad too salty for my taste. My colleague also really enjoyed his food. They have a great wine list and the Pinot Noir (Romanian?) we had was delicious and superb value. The restaurant is one very excellent reason to stay at The Black horse and I am sure we will return!

After looking around for a charming pub with rooms to get married in we settled on The Black Horse. It helped that my father-in-law got married he 12 years ago and they had no complaints, we certainly didn’t either!!

Classy place, everything looked really smart, felt like a special occasion. Had the lamb Sunday roast and it was beautiful, really filling and plentiful. Finished with bakewell tart it was sublime, really glad we tried it. Young waiter lad was great we will return over xmas.

This was our second visit after being for 2 nights in August but this time without our dog so had a better room across the street and thus time was able to try the resteraunt and the service and food was brilliant. The pub staff are chatty and make you feel most welcome

Great friendly place and the food is fantastic. We go regularly for lunch and its a superb Menu. Damien go’s out of his way to look after you and is a lovely jokey character.

I attended The Black Horse for my sisters wedding, The rooms were spotless and had all the facilities that you need. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I really enjoyable experience.

Very nice pub/restaurant/hotel. No complaints whatsoever, everything perfect. The young waitor was a funny chap, great at his job!

Was staying at a nearby hotel and called in to the Black Horse on a Saturday afternoon to check out the menu with the intention of booking for an evening meal. We had a pint of beer and sat in a cosy area getting warm near a blazing open fire. All was fine until a large group of yuppies came in with noisy children with party balloons. It was apparent that they were taking over the pub for the afternoon. Two very young girls were sat on high stools at the bar (which I think is illegal) and started to pull poppies from a charity box to pieces which their mother watching and doing nothing to stop them. The noise and behaviour got worse and the staff did nothing to stop all this noisy bad behaviour. We left and needless to say did not make a booking for our party of six. Will not be returning either.

We’ve been here a few times but this time it wasn’t memorable. To be honest we still not sure what was lacking. Was it the ambience or the food; maybe the service. But it seems like we didn’t have the same experience as did on our previous visits.

A group of forty of us were booked in on the Sunday evening. All our food had been pre booked very efficiently handled by Lydia the restaurant manager. We had a variety of dishes.

Stayed here last night 3x Rooms (6 people) all rooms clean and tidy, check in swift and friendly.

We decided on this place for our Sunday lunch and found this place to be very pleasant indeed. The restaurant was full but sat in the bar area to eat which was lovely and warm on a horrible rainy day. A very friendly server took our order and the Sunday roasts arrived very promptly and were very well presented. We had the beef and the lamb, both meals were good on portion size with plenty of tasty accompaniments to the meat. We had a lovely time

Plenty of parking just across the road and outside on the road if available. Room was great with everything you might need.I didnt arrive in time for dinner but had a really great breakfast.

Chanced on this place almost 20 years ago after stopping for a break on a long motorway journey. We have returned many times to sample the superb food. We love this place.

As we were staying here we had meals both nights the pie is realy nice and big with ample veg. Next day the Sunday manue is limited but with plenty of choice and opted for the 3 course special, the roast beef was lovely, starters tasty and the desert was awesome, definately a good vibe pub, service and food

We stayed at The Black Horse for one night, and were very impressed. The staff were welcoming and friendly, the room we had was large, clean and comfortable, and the food at dinner and breakfast was excellent. Service at the meals was exceptional, the young guy (Damien?) was superb.

Booked here after researching somewhere that still did a Sunday dinner later on..so glad we did the staff were so lovely and more to the point the food was just cooked to perfection we thoroughly enjoyed our time there, we will definitely be calling again and recommending this gem, big Thankyou to the talented chef and all staff for a pleasurable visit.

Had a work do here ... the actual room décor is a bit rundown but the standard of hospitality was good. The food was plentiful and tasty, as were the drinks.

I dined here twice this week while staying at the hotel. It was a great pleasure to sit outside in the courtyard (in the shade) and eat. I was on a 3 course DB&B; deal but only managed 3 courses on day one - helpings are very generous! The food was again excellent; I especially enjoyed the pork loin main course. I had an issue on day one with oversalted fish but this was rapidly remedied. Once again I found the beer and wines by the glass to be really good - great Pinot Noir! One or two little gripes: On day 2 the waitress ignored me at the bar while having her own drink and had to be sharply reminded by the very professional barman. Later I was left alone for too long after my main was cleared away and had to ask for the dessert menu. And finally I did not like to see off-duty staff out on the terrace smoking, though I guess that all smokers feel they can pollute the atmosphere outside.... But all in all I highly recommend the food at Athe Black Horse.

This is our 3rd time staying with 1st time being our wedding 2 years ago and our anniversaries since. I fell in love with the place when we first booked our wedding and the place has never failed to supercede my expectations. The rooms are spotless and speaking as a head housekeeper myself I have tried to find fault and cannot. The food is sublime, hats off to the chef, every time we have tried something different and have never failed to clean our plates. The breakfast aswell is to die for, the pancakes and croissants are my personal favourite while my husband loves the 'blackhorse breakfast'. Everything is fresh and there seems to be no sight of anything frozen. The staff are polite and friendly and you can tell that they know how good their product is and I dont blame them. Cant wait for next year!

Had dinner here while staying at the Holiday Inn which is a 10 minute walk away (up a steep hill). Nice friendly pub that offers food. There is a lovely large courtyard at the rear. Pub is clean and well decorated, staff very friendly. Food was ok, but we thought a little pricey for what you got (Scotch egg starter £8.50, burger £16.50). I would go again, it is convenient to the Holiday Inn if you don't want to drive, but if go into Brighouse there are better.

We visited for a Booze & Snooze for our anniversary. We always love it here and have visited many times since our wedding here in 2016. The rooms are super comfy and the food as usual was amazing. Scotch egg starters were fabulous. My hubby usually goes for fish and chips but decided to try the pie which he claims is best he ever had. I tried the chicken which was also delicious and the deserts were sublime. After a really good night sleep we enjoyed the local full English breakfast. As usual all the staff were warm and friendly. This is a lovely little place which is well run. I hope to be going back for many years.

We treated ourselves to dinner, bed and breakfast at the Black Horse to celebrate our wedding anniversary on our way home from visiting family in West Yorkshire. In a village setting and in a pleasant area, this Inn is a gem and our welcome was warm. Our room was in a converted row of cottages and had rough-hewn beams, a T-fall ceiling and a door that was not full height! It was spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated with a smart bath/shower room, a large, comfortable bed, plenty of drawers and hanging space and a tea-tray that offered a cafetiere and ground coffee as well as tea and hot chocolate. There were individual bathrobes and a good range of toiletries. Dinner was excellent - not cheap, but we didn't feel that we'd been robbed! A good range of breakfast items was available, all cooked fresh to order. Within a few minutes of leaving in the morning, we were on the M62 and heading for home, but the memory lingers on...

Lunch was really lovely at this fabulous little pub with rooms. We sat in the courtyard at the back listening to the trickle of the water feature, whilst enjoying the quaint feel of this pub in the sunshine.

Staying at this pub for the second time I was really looking forward to my meal and was definitely not disappointed. This is very tasty, modern cooking, well presented. A super starter of king prawns with a tomato and chorizo sauce was unctuous and was followed by an equally tasty main of pan fried sea trout with a broad bean and pea risotto. I finished with a nice pannacotta with an orange sauce. The selection of wines by the glass (I had a lovely Chilean Riesling) is very good. I could eat this food every day!

My daughter and I arrived here one Friday evening. I had booked a table earlier in that day, it was also our first time at the Black Horse.

We were very well looked after by Roberts, we had an excellent lunch the food was excellent. I had the pork check it was my highlight, my daughter loved the pea and mint soup.

I dined here this week while staying at the Inn (separate review) and had a 3 course dinner as part of my deal. I can only say wow!! This was a really great meal, complemented by some lovely wines. Starter of “sticky” pig’s cheeks with celeriac puree and remoulade was melt in the mouth. The main of hake fillet with nduja paste in a delicious spicy chickpea casserole was also fantastic and the side of greens (buttery!) was perfect. I finished with a very good home made ginger and plum tart with brown bread icecream. The waitresses were lovely and I was most pleased to be offered a drink by a fellow diner and ended up sitting chatting to him, which was much better than being on my own. As a result I will definitely stay and dine at The Black Horse Inn again!!

My husband and I visited for an evening meal on Friday evening.

For all your help in hosting my husbands 50th birthday family get together. Lydia and all the staff went over and above to ensure we all had the best time. Nothing was too much trouble, the food was perfect, the bedrooms very impressive and the service excellent. He really could not have asked for a better place to celebrate his milestone birthday. We will be back and thank you again.

We were there for my cousins evening wedding reception. It’s an old building with nook and crannies. The food we had was very good but it was only bacon or sausage sandwiches and chip, very good though. I looked at the ordinary menu and it looked extensive and somewhere I’d have had lunch or dinner. My family who were at the wedding said the venue was brilliant and they’d had a good day. Not one person said the food wasn’t good. That’s a thumbs up for the food in my book.
