This is a little gem of a cafe in the Piece Hall in Halifax. I came with a coach party from around the Blackpool area and we were dropped off at the Piece Hall first. It used to be a cloth merchants place many years ago and I worked just around the corner from here in an office in the 90’s and could not believe how much it had changed. It is full of little independent shops well worth venturing inside to look around. The stone work has been cleaned and the walkways/ floor redesigned. It’s beautiful now. A lot of money has been spent doing it up. They were just preparing to hold a Eurovision Song Contest party and I believe they held a Coronation party also for King Charles on May 6th. I ventured upstairs, there are lifts as well as stairs and came across G’s cakes. I love a nice latte and cake. Already members of my coach party were inside and I was served by a really lovely lady called Helen. She said she loved her job and you could tell. Nothing was too much trouble. I had a latte which was just perfect and a large slice of Victoria sponge. It was delicious. There were so many cakes to choose from. I was told they also had another outdoors eatery downstairs. It was so nice in G’s cakes, I went back before the coach headed onto Shibden Hall.

Enjoyed a lovely coffee and cake in this friendly cafe today. I would highly recommend the chocolate brownie, which was excellent. We sat in the upstairs cafe which was quite small, but the bakery downstairs has a large outdoor seating area. The lady serving us was very friendly and added to a very enjoyable break.

We visited G's cakes today at the Piece Hall and had coffee, the staff were welcoming and friendly. We didn't want cake at that time but. said we would have some to take away later, the Gingerbread Latte cake was recommended and I was requested to leave a review if I tried it. We later went to The Bakery and purchased a slice of this and a slice of coffee and walnut to take away. We was really looking forward to having these but was extremely disappointed with both. The gingerbread latte cake lacked flavour and was over cooked, heavy and dry. The coffee and walnut appeared to be from separate batches with no coffee in the sponge, only in the buttercream, the top half was quite light but the bottom half very dense. At a price of £3.50 per slice I would have expected far better quality, to be honest I can produce a better cake myself so instead of it being a treat at the end of a lovely day it just cast a bad taste in mouths. Service, great, cakes poor.

My husband said that the coffee was excellent! He rarely passes a comment. A tribute indeed. Just a few cake choices. That’s all they sell, drinks and amazing cakes! I had blond rocky road, he had snickers brownie. We shared both. Let me tell you they were extra ordinary! Delicious. Luscious. Excellent. G’s is on the first tier (north). Well worth exploring! There is only seating for approx 10 customers at a time. Make sure you are one of them!

We came here in July, on holiday in the UK from Canada, and our friends who had been to G's Cakes highly recommended it. They were so right! It was the perfect way to start the morning, with delicious and decadent treats and a good specialty coffee. The four of us enjoyed everything. I swear you can get a cavity just looking at those cakes. Making it even better are the hosts, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome and at home. Lovely conversation, discussions and advice about the Piece Hall, Halifax itself, and some other wonderful things to see and do made it a great place to begin our explorations. Having coffee and cakes at G's gave us the energy to do so! If you're in the Piece Hall, or even the Halifax town centre, you must make the trip to G's Cakes.

Phenomenal cakes! I visit here several times a week as it is just opposite work and I cannot praise it highly enough. It is a family run business, and having met the owners, you can see how much love goes into their goods! I have very consistent, positive experiences here. The only complaint I have is the damage it is doing to my waistline! Keep up the good work, guys!

Cannot comment on the food as we were told they do not cater for vegans. A shame as there are so many establishments that offer at least one vegan option. Especially when there is an excellent vegan shop (Leaf) just along the balcony. Really feel that you are missing a trick here. Any vegans reading this...go to Ginger Vegetarian Café just 5 minutes walk away. They have a superb selection.

Visited this little gem within the Piece Hall building in Halifax on a cold January day. We had searched for somewhere that would allow our little Yorkie too and found a warm welcome within its cosy walls. Delicious cakes, great coffee and warm welcome, a great find and well recommended.

Mixed experience at G’s today. I’d seen their Facebook page and thought the cakes looked delicious, so wanted to give the place a try. The cakes were delicious and the service friendly. The flat white I ordered was more like a milky coffee and the correct milk preparation had not been achieved, resulting in heated milk rather than properly stretched. My friend’s pot of tea was served without a teaspoon, which is not the end of the world, but when you’re only serving tea/coffee and cake.........I would go again if I needed some cake and was too lazy to bake, but I’d rather pay £1.69 and get McDonalds equally as poor version of a flat white if I needed a coffee.

I'd been for fasting bloods at my GPs and walked into town perished in this awful bitter weather and had had no breakfast 🥣 So called in as it was the first place with hot food that I saw. WOW !!! Did they write the book about how to look after their customers in here ???Amazed, stunned & delighted to put it mildly. I'm veggie so asked for a non menu item which arrived with a steaming hot brew within about 7 minutes of me walking through the door but was it good or what ?? How anybody can make such a basic food item taste as good is beyond me but it was excellent and yes, I was tempted and added 2 pieces of parkin to the order which I shared with a friend later and that also was extremely tasty. Overall, reasonably priced, spotlessly clean, excellent customer service and yes I'll head there now any time I need a quick butty and know it'll be worth every penny. Thanks guys keep up the very good work 👷 ☆☆☆☆☆

Not been in to Yates for a while, but I was so glad that I went in. I got to see one of my old friends back behind the bar, Samantha, or Boo as she is known. So glad to have her back home. Will be coming back more often.

What an absolute gem of a place. Ticks all the boxes...dog friendly, beautiful decor, welcoming and homely feel, amazing cake and friendly staff. The fact this place is open until 8pm is also great. So many other cafes were closed......thank goodness really as we wouldn't have found this gorgeous place otherwise. Coffee is gorgeous and the cakes were not only proper cakes but absolutely gorgeous. Fresh and delicious. The staff were super friendly and loved the fact we had our dogs. As someone with Autism the whole place just felt so lovely and I can't wait to return. We weren't overly hungry which was slightly annoying as the menu looked fab. I'm not vegan but the options sounded amazing and there was plenty of choice. Can't wait to return. Thank you!
