Came in Sunday night for quiz night. Had some lovely bar snacks before the quiz started and they were absolutely amazing. The staff were so friendly and really helpful, and it was a really enjoyable night. Can’t wait to come back next week.

I came to this pub and it didn’t disappoint. It was very busy but the staff manage really well. The service and the food was excellent. Brilliant atmosphere and the garden is lovely. I can’t wait to return soon.

PARKING FINE Disappointed and let down – poor attitude from staff Recently, my partner visited this pub for a meal one evening. Upon arrival, she checked with staff that she had correctly parked in the small car park nearby. They advised her to move her car to their designated car park to avoid getting a ticket – which she did. She had a pleasant meal and left, only to later receive a parking charge notice from Euro Car Parks, claiming she hadn’t validated her parking in their car park. This was most confusing given the exchange on the day. At no point was she told or instructed how to then validate the parking in their car park by the staff after suggesting she move. When my partner called to explain the situation, she was met with an extremely rude response from a man who claimed the car park was “nothing to do with him” and, in his own words, said he didn’t have a “magic button to make it go away.” I found that attitude completely unacceptable from someone in hospitality. I then called a couple of days later, only to be met with the same dismissive tone and unwillingness to help and told to appeal it with Euro Car Parks, who have now rejected our appeal even though we proved she was a patron on the day. For a brand that’s supposedly well-established, this was incredibly disappointing. I understand the need for controlled parking in busy areas, but clearer signage and proper communication from staff is essential. Instead, we were left to find out the hard way – with a fine and rude responses when we tried to resolve it. This experience has left a sour taste in our mouths, not just because of the charge, but because of the sheer lack of consideration or accountability from the staff. I’m sure there are plenty of other places in the area where the food is just as good – and where the staff treat their customers with basic respect after receiving such a letter having explained what occurred. We won’t be returning.

Went for Sunday lunch today with my two sons there partners and my granddaughter. Food absolutely superb, drinks excellent and bar staff amazing! Fantastic value for money, a very well done to all of the staff at the Blackhorse that made our day fantastic! 👏

Very poor. No apple cider. No southern comfort. Tried to order a beer at 22.56 (15 secs after last orders bell) and refused. Came here for a meal 3 days ago and service was terrible (good was good). Don't think I'll be returning.

Found this gem whilst passing through. Glad we stopped by! Atmospheric, clean, warm, friendly and excellent food which was reasonably priced. Highly recommend and will return.

We had Sunday lunch for four adults and a child. The menu and food was great , plenty of choice and good value for money.

I visited your pub with my friend and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The ladies name was Victoria, really nice.

Usually try to get here once a month if we can. Matt knows us well and always tries to get us sitting on our favourite table! Food is always good, although have noticed that the choice is smaller now. Very disappointed in the ‘tonic’ mixer dispensers now. Much prefer the individual glass bottles of Fevertree. It has got a very nondescript flavour and RUINS a G & T. Also used to have the choice of ‘fat’ tonic or ‘skinny’ tonic……been advised that the dispenser is a hybrid of the two?? NOT GOOD for one of our party who is a diabetic and must have diet tonic. We asked if we could bring our own Tonic water next time…..that didn’t go down too well! On the whole we always have a great time here, hence always returning. Might have to rethink the G & T option for future visits. Such a shame. Another money saving exercise I guess?

Really lovely pub and one of the ones we visit frequently. Food is always of a very good standard. Always clean and love the refurb. Unfortunately the only thing that lets this place down is the staff. Most are ok but the girl with long very dark hair shouldn’t work in hospitality. She is quite rude and unwelcoming. A smile goes a long way!

We went for Christmas day lunch the food was amazing. The staff all very polite & helpful. The atmosphere was good.

Parked at the pub with friends around 10 pm last Friday, only to receive parking fines for all three of us. We parked legitimately in the pub car park, each had one drink, and were inside for less than an hour. I don’t recall seeing any signs or being told about a system to register for parking. We’re now being charged a shocking £180 in fines for what should have been a straightforward visit. After reading other reviews, it’s clear this has happened to many others - why isn’t there better signage or a system where bar staff remind customers to register their details, as other pubs do? I'm afraid we won’t be returning. Despite response on google reviews to call, I have been unable to get through to manager. No one has called back or responded to my message.

A Great pub/restaurant!!!!!!! Had a great evening there on Sunday, food and drinks were quality !!!! The best Bar Staff around this particular area hands down !!!!! professional, friendly team who are always in good spirits and are keen to interact, superb !

A fantastic, smart, clean and friendly pub with great Ales and all the popular lagers. But what makes this pub a cut above the rest is the Fantastic Staff !!!!!!! Me and my other half were served by some very attentive, professional and friendly Ladies behind the bar which is sometimes hard to find in this particular area, Br6 Nothing was too much trouble and the food and drinks were spot on !!!! Would highly recommend 👍

Absolutely terrific visit to your pub today! We went for a well overdue family lunch and everything was wonderful. Our meals and drinks were served quickly and the staff were so sweet to my daughter. Thank you so much, we’ll definitely be back!

Great stop on our pub crawl last night. I had a request to my friends who live in the area: find me a pub with a fireplace. So I enjoyed this one.

Went with a small lunch group for Christmas lunch. All excellent. Food was really good quality and plentiful. Staff were really lovely to us despite fact they were rushed off their feet. Really good value. A really good Ember Inn.

Actually popped in just for drinks but realised how busy it was unusually for a Tuesday at 17.00. I checked the app and it was 50% offer off mains and so we decided to eat there as well. The staff (Victoria and Teresa) were their usual busy efficient selves and we were told food would be about 40 minutes. Fine, but it actually arrived after just 25 minutes and was truly excellent and great value with the discount. Nice warm pub with tasteful Xmas decorations and excellent staff.

Visited 19/11/24 to lunch with a colleague. Good parking space and car registeredwithin premises. Nice, clean premises and two very efficient female bar staff. Meal well presented and good value

Ember Inns you must be proud This place is a gem in your Crown Consistently good food every day The chefs never let you down. It is our favorite place now For a pint and good grub. The seating, the chefs and the staff, In this area, this is the best pub!

While I enjoyed my evening at the pub and found the food to be decent, I was quite frustrated to receive a £100 parking fine. I used the tablet at the bar to enter my registration number, so it seems there may have been a problem with the registration process. I've tried calling the pub several times, but each time I only reach voicemail, and I haven't received a callback yet. Overall, while the experience was pleasant, the unexpected fine really overshadowed it. I hope this issue can be addressed, as it certainly detracted from my visit.

Very nice staff and brilliant food

Unfriendly manager. Barred our whole family because we enjoyed an ice lolly on the outside table, which was not purchased on the premises. Understand its thier livelihood to sell food and drinks, but Could've just explained that and asked is to stop. We spent over £100 on drinks for 6/7 people, 3 weekends in a row, it's not like we were trying to freeload him.

Went for dinner with family and very very very loud. We were made to feel very uncomfortable and in the end our table and a number of others decided to leave. Steer clear!!!

Great service. Super attentive bar staff. Food was delicious….fish with gratin potatoes and avocado, bacon and chicken salad with halloumi. Always nice relaxed atmosphere too.

We have used plenty of times in the past , this time the Sunday roast not up to scratch Should have been half a chicken got legs instead, roast potatoes dry & bland The Guinness was just as bad sent it back for a lager instead Staff very apologetic & helps on the plus side

Food was good, quiet, outdoor seating for a nice alfresco summer meal, nice woods around for walks. Not an easy place.

Pub looks nice now that its had a refurbishment, unfortunately kitchen was closed so unable to order any food on a Saturday evening. Weren't showing the football so was very quiet, so not much atmosphere!

The mixed grill is spectacular ! 100% recommend.

Somehow the Black Horse does their food better than any if the other Ember Inns in the area. Great staff too. Recent refurb has reduced the choice of real ale which is a shame especially when the three they usually now have are too similar to each other (Pride/Doom/Landlord)

The food is mediocre at best - I had the scampi and chips and it wasn't great compared to other pubs that do this. You have to order at the bar which is fair enough as this is a pub. The staff are nice. However, we were very annoyed to get a parking ticket. I have literally never been to a pub that charges its clients to park and this is not the norm. Despite this, there is nothing in the pub itself to remind you to pay. Definitely won't be back - very ordinary pub and the parking was the last straw.

First visit back after the recent refurbishment and it looks lovely, very impressed! We had dinner and drinks and our food was served hot and in a timely manner. We’ve been going to the Black Horse for years and will probably start going a little more often now that the warmer weathers coming and we can make use of the beer garden. Thanks for a great visit!

I recently visited The Black Horse and was shocked by the negligence towards safety in their outdoor garden area. My son cut his hand on a sharp, rusty object hidden in the grass, which posed a significant risk of injury. When I informed the staff, they dismissed it as a potential drainage issue and showed no concern or willingness to address the hazard. This lack of responsibility towards customer safety is unacceptable. I urge the management to take immediate action to inspect and clean the garden area to prevent further incidents. Until then, I would advise families with children to be cautious when visiting.

Have been a regular in this pub for a while, so once it reopened after the refurb we couldn’t wait to see everything. We wasn’t disappointed at all! The new menu is amazing and such good quality! My husband had the ultimate burger and I had the new improved lasagna. The staff are amazing and Teresa our server reminded us to use our loyalty card.

Staff friendly and warned us of the delay for the food order which was not too long to wait .Food enjoyable especially the spare ribs with meat fell of the bone

Visited after refurbishment. Still great value for Alchohol but unfortunately the food quality hasn’t improved. It came very very cold unfortunately, the steak, the sauce, the mushrooms. Such a shame because the refurb is lovely! The staff also really need to smile more and greet more, and just be more attentive and friendly in nature. Customer service needs a bit of a boost, perhaps it’s the moral of the place itself. I won’t be eating there again, but a drink in the garden in the summer, for sure.

Love this pub. One of the best and my favourite hang out place with friends. 👌 Lovely sit out in summer. Cosy warm interior in summer. Lots of memories playing chess with friends and leaving parties from work. Love it. 🥰

Really like this place, decent choice of beverages, food & drink reasonably priced and very good deals through the Ember Inns app. Staff very polite and attentive, reasonably clean and respectable clientele. Garden area very nice in the Summer. Definitely recommend The Black Horse.

Lovely Sunday lunch. It gets busy, so best to book

Black Horse, Locksbottom has been the chosen pub for myself, friends, family and work colleagues on numerous occasions. Whilst the pub is welcoming and we have no issues with the service, there has been an ongoing issue with the outside area that seems to have no resolution in sight. In Dec 22, all exterior lighting in the garden, huts and car park stopped working & remained broken for around two months. This obviously meant that people were unable to use this area, unless they wanted to try and enjoy a drink in the dark. Nov 23, the same thing happened, all lights in the garden & huts not working. The lights remain broken to date, over three months later. In addition to this, the lights have now stopped working on the front patio beside the car park and the heater has also stopped working. This has been mentioned to members of staff on several occasions but their response has been one of uninterest and indifference, shrugging their shoulders and offering “it’s been logged” as their idea of a satisfactory explanation/update. Ultimately, if there is an outdoor space & car parking facility, you are fundamentally responsible to ensure it is safe for the public to use. You should also be ensuring the pub is accessible to all that want to use it, in the way it is designed to be used. I hope this review is enough for management to investigate the ongoing issues & implement changes.

Some lovely tables by a cosy fire. Serves food all day. Food comes quickly. Takes Blue Light discount card which makes a visit good value.
