Ember Inns you must be proud This place is a gem in your Crown Consistently good food every day The chefs never let you down. It is our favorite place now For a pint and good grub. The seating, the chefs and the staff, In this area, this is the best pub!

While I enjoyed my evening at the pub and found the food to be decent, I was quite frustrated to receive a £100 parking fine. I used the tablet at the bar to enter my registration number, so it seems there may have been a problem with the registration process. I've tried calling the pub several times, but each time I only reach voicemail, and I haven't received a callback yet. Overall, while the experience was pleasant, the unexpected fine really overshadowed it. I hope this issue can be addressed, as it certainly detracted from my visit.

Spent 5 hours here today😁, delicious food, efficient, professional staff, love updated decor. Highly recommend

Very welcoming pub/restaurant, excellent value and good food & Drinks

Small portions overpriced but good service.

Unfriendly manager. Barred our whole family because we enjoyed an ice lolly on the outside table, which was not purchased on the premises. Understand its thier livelihood to sell food and drinks, but Could've just explained that and asked is to stop. We spent over £100 on drinks for 6/7 people, 3 weekends in a row, it's not like we were trying to freeload him.

I had a great experience in this pub, the staff were very friendly especially Lily who helped me with my Sunday order and the food was amazing!! Will definitely be going back!

Went for dinner with family and very very very loud. We were made to feel very uncomfortable and in the end our table and a number of others decided to leave. Steer clear!!!

Chilled Sunday pub vibes. Food not so great but okay with a pint. Good range of drinks available. Pleasant beer garden.

Great service. Super attentive bar staff. Food was delicious….fish with gratin potatoes and avocado, bacon and chicken salad with halloumi. Always nice relaxed atmosphere too.

We have used plenty of times in the past , this time the Sunday roast not up to scratch Should have been half a chicken got legs instead, roast potatoes dry & bland The Guinness was just as bad sent it back for a lager instead Staff very apologetic & helps on the plus side

Food was good, quiet, outdoor seating for a nice alfresco summer meal, nice woods around for walks. Not an easy place.

My daughter was not very well tonight. The staff were absolutely brilliant 👏 thank you so much ❤️

Had a fabulous steak meal here yesterday. Quality food cooked to perfection will be back soon as so good and great value too. Staff were helpful and friendly. Another fantastic meal from Ember inns Thank you. Wish I’d taken a photo but was too good to wait. lol

Pub looks nice now that its had a refurbishment, unfortunately kitchen was closed so unable to order any food on a Saturday evening. Weren't showing the football so was very quiet, so not much atmosphere!

The mixed grill is spectacular ! 100% recommend.

Somehow the Black Horse does their food better than any if the other Ember Inns in the area. Great staff too. Recent refurb has reduced the choice of real ale which is a shame especially when the three they usually now have are too similar to each other (Pride/Doom/Landlord)

The food is mediocre at best - I had the scampi and chips and it wasn't great compared to other pubs that do this. You have to order at the bar which is fair enough as this is a pub. The staff are nice. However, we were very annoyed to get a parking ticket. I have literally never been to a pub that charges its clients to park and this is not the norm. Despite this, there is nothing in the pub itself to remind you to pay. Definitely won't be back - very ordinary pub and the parking was the last straw.

First visit back after the recent refurbishment and it looks lovely, very impressed! We had dinner and drinks and our food was served hot and in a timely manner. We’ve been going to the Black Horse for years and will probably start going a little more often now that the warmer weathers coming and we can make use of the beer garden. Thanks for a great visit!

I recently visited The Black Horse and was shocked by the negligence towards safety in their outdoor garden area. My son cut his hand on a sharp, rusty object hidden in the grass, which posed a significant risk of injury. When I informed the staff, they dismissed it as a potential drainage issue and showed no concern or willingness to address the hazard. This lack of responsibility towards customer safety is unacceptable. I urge the management to take immediate action to inspect and clean the garden area to prevent further incidents. Until then, I would advise families with children to be cautious when visiting.

Have been a regular in this pub for a while, so once it reopened after the refurb we couldn’t wait to see everything. We wasn’t disappointed at all! The new menu is amazing and such good quality! My husband had the ultimate burger and I had the new improved lasagna. The staff are amazing and Teresa our server reminded us to use our loyalty card.

Staff friendly and warned us of the delay for the food order which was not too long to wait .Food enjoyable especially the spare ribs with meat fell of the bone

Visited after refurbishment. Still great value for Alchohol but unfortunately the food quality hasn’t improved. It came very very cold unfortunately, the steak, the sauce, the mushrooms. Such a shame because the refurb is lovely! The staff also really need to smile more and greet more, and just be more attentive and friendly in nature. Customer service needs a bit of a boost, perhaps it’s the moral of the place itself. I won’t be eating there again, but a drink in the garden in the summer, for sure.

Excellent. As always. Never had a bad meal or service!

We had fab service, and they helped us out to see what we could eat as a friend had dietary requirements. And nothing was too much problem. It was quiz night, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Thank you for a lovely time and food.

Love this pub. One of the best and my favourite hang out place with friends. 👌 Lovely sit out in summer. Cosy warm interior in summer. Lots of memories playing chess with friends and leaving parties from work. Love it. 🥰

Really like this place, decent choice of beverages, food & drink reasonably priced and very good deals through the Ember Inns app. Staff very polite and attentive, reasonably clean and respectable clientele. Garden area very nice in the Summer. Definitely recommend The Black Horse.

Black Horse, Locksbottom has been the chosen pub for myself, friends, family and work colleagues on numerous occasions. Whilst the pub is welcoming and we have no issues with the service, there has been an ongoing issue with the outside area that seems to have no resolution in sight. In Dec 22, all exterior lighting in the garden, huts and car park stopped working & remained broken for around two months. This obviously meant that people were unable to use this area, unless they wanted to try and enjoy a drink in the dark. Nov 23, the same thing happened, all lights in the garden & huts not working. The lights remain broken to date, over three months later. In addition to this, the lights have now stopped working on the front patio beside the car park and the heater has also stopped working. This has been mentioned to members of staff on several occasions but their response has been one of uninterest and indifference, shrugging their shoulders and offering “it’s been logged” as their idea of a satisfactory explanation/update. Ultimately, if there is an outdoor space & car parking facility, you are fundamentally responsible to ensure it is safe for the public to use. You should also be ensuring the pub is accessible to all that want to use it, in the way it is designed to be used. I hope this review is enough for management to investigate the ongoing issues & implement changes.

Lovely homely pub atmosphere. Good food, I really enjoyed my beef. The selection us not bad either. All in all a 5 star rating from me!

Service and staff are brilliant and is always very clean. Food is good but the steaks we had were very fatty.

Some lovely tables by a cosy fire. Serves food all day. Food comes quickly. Takes Blue Light discount card which makes a visit good value.

A great local pub. Always friendly staff and good food. The set menu is really good and great value. They have lots of offers through the week and seasonally.

We had the new shepherd's pie (I stuck to my usual burnt gammon), the shepherd's pie was amazing, full of flavour and generous in portion size! Also thank you to Matt for hunting down some brown sauce for us!

We had a great meal at The Black Horse. Food was great, staff were very friendly and helpful, and our lunch was great value. Looking forward to coming back in a couple of weeks.

I can't praise the staff enough. We came in as a group of 8 on Sunday for a birthday lunch & if I can be honest, we're a fussy bunch. People don't like [x] or won't eat [y] or what something cooked their way, etc; which makes going out for dinner a bit of a nightmare! However, both the lady behind the bar & the chef were on-point. We were listened to & everything was as requested. As a consequence, everyone to a person enjoyed their meals & desserts. Everyone also said they will definitely go back there soon separately, my wife & I included. Thanks to all the staff for a great few hours at your pub.

Me and my husband popped in for he’s birthday and enjoyed a number of cocktails and the food was very tasty. Would definitely recommend and would definitely revisit.

My steak was awful. I ordered the Rump steak and it had a huge bit of gristle through the middle of it. Surely this would've been seen before cooking as it was from one end to the other. You couldn't even cut the gristle with a steak knife! They offered myself a free dessert as an apology which obviously wasn't sufficient as I had just paid £13 for the gristle. After discussing this, they refunded the money back for the gristle.

Definitely a 5 star experience this time !The meals of steak and salad were well cooked ,nicely presented and served quickly. The service was great,as it usually is.Thank you Black Horse management and staff

I visited the Black Horse for my Birthday to have dinner with family. The food was lovely and everyone enjoyed themselves. We had Shane serve us throughout the night and he was very helpful. I will definitely be visiting again.

A few friends and I stopped by for a few catch up drinks and had an amazing time. Shane behind the bar was attentive and friendly, we'll be back again soon to try more of the cocktails 😊

First time coming to the Black Horse last week and I have nothing but good things to say, staff were solid and very charismatic (if I remember his name correctly, Shane was extremely attentive). Food was great and will definitely drop by again.

Pop in for a quick Sunday lunch , the ultimate burger was really nice and my wife had the chicken salad and she liked that too . And the Camden hells was a good pint .

I visit a lot and the meal is always lovely and staff very courteous.

Very nice pub which ticks all the boxes, parking available, good inside and outside seating areas. Very efficient bar and food service and decent toilets (better than some). Overall a nice clientele which is expected in an affluent area. We ordered the chicken and leek pie and half pounder which was very nice. Has become a regular spot but the only gripe is that the garden doesn't get much sun!

Always enjoy our trip to the Black Horse, a bit of a shame that the Prawn Cocktail Starter has been removed from the menu though.

There's not much atmosphere. The cutlery and condiments on the table make it look like a slightly upmarket greasy spoon. Lots of light bulbs are missing as usual. The bar staff were very friendly though. I would never eat here as the menu is down to a low price rather than up to a good standard and I'm very fussy about my food where I eat out

Great service from the Manager Katie, made our visit very fun, she was very bubbly and accommodating to me and my friends. Couldn’t recommend her enough. Will be returning for future evenings out. Thankyou x

Had a lovely late lunch and was greeted by lovely staff. Our server T was polite and took good care of us. Will be coming back.

I asked for my steak well done., when it arrived it was oozing blood. The waitress returned it to the kitchen, some time later it was brought out however when I cut into it it was still red with liquid blood and inedible.

The food had to be returned as it was inedible, despite there being less than 10 customers in the pub at the time. I had to open maybe 10 small packs of mayonnaise (difficult to open) whereas tomato ketchup was available in a large bottle WHY? Then another customer sat no more than 10 feet from me shouting and screaming on his phone. The pub was empty at the time. This was not a good experience. I await your response and will not use the pub again until I hear from you. P.s I am/was a regular customer

Great food and great atmosphere. Staff are really friendly and attentive. Decent size garden so great for little ones.
