One star is too many. My coffee was served in a badly chipped 'cup'. There were heavy sticky deposits on outside of Stokes sauce bottles on the table; there was a lot of dirt and various deposits on the floor; vertical surfaces on chiller cabinet looked very unclean - overall a very grubby place. Probably has a high hygiene rating but the reality is the opposite. First and last visit. I recommend to avoid.

This chain may be fashionable, but a huge disappointment. Tasteless quiche with salad which consisted of chunks of cucumber past their best. No dressing, though the chef made some. On remarking on the quality of food, there was no apology made. I miss the previous Cafe who was vastly superior. Won't go again. :(

Just tried the new Black Dog in Saxmundham. It has a very cool vibe and wonderful coffee, as well as a cheerful welcome. This is a great asset to Saxmundham. The bread & pastries looked delicious. We had already eaten breakfast, but will definately try a bite to eat on our next return. The courtyard area will be super when Spring arrives.

Popped in here during a rainy day over the Christmas break. We both had a 'melt' which is 2 large thick pieces of sourdough with various fillings and then toasted. Both were lovely and perfect hangover food. Rest of the menu also looked good. Would recommened.

The Street food nights are amazing value for the quality and atmosphere. Very impromptu, easy going setup. Looks like booking will be essential though. Great welcome, coffee and various food options during the day. Chef area is in the cafe so easy to chat with Chefs and staff. Vegan options.

Stayed here for the Easter Break from good Friday till the Monday. Such a lovely feel to this hotel. The food on Saturday evening was to die for we had our friends join us and all had Beef Wellington and all agreed the best one we have ever had ! Second time staying at this hotel and would definitely go back as staff and management are lovely.

We took advantage of an unexpectedly sunny Sunday to take a friend in a wheelchair for a stroll on the prom and brunch at the Alex — where we knew there was an accessible loo, should it be needed. Our order included a vegan breakfast, muffin and poached eggs and smoked haddock fishcakes, plus cake. All were good, fresh and well-cooked. Hats off to the chef who perfectly poached those eggs. The staff were friendly and professional and went out of their way to help us with wheelchair manoeuvring. The place feels well-run.

Over-priced food - an unbelievable £4.75 for a stodgy, tasteless cheese scone with one pat of hard, cold butter. Only managed to eat half of it, really unpleasant, threw the rest away. The cakes were not covered and crawling with flies. Sandwiches even more over-priced at £8.25 for a small cheese sandwich with white bread. This cafe used to be so much better. Will drive past in future and not stop here.

Ver disappointed. Two young girls on duty who were indifferent to our questions. We sat down and neither came to ask if we needed drinks before ordering. There was only one other family in the restaurant. Left without ordering. Have been before with better results but not happy with the lack of service.

Food and service ok, but far too expensive. One thin slice of cheese and ham on a cheddar and ham ploughman's meal ? Salad out of a bag ?. Joke at their prices.
