Great pub, great atmosphere, good live music and excellent food, all in a historical setting, what more would you want.

Fantastic proper pub! Had a ploughmans lunch, was best I’ve had in a long time. Friendly service, clean and welcoming. Best rock duke box in town.

This is the oldest pub in weymouth. The staff were friendly. It was comfortable and clean. Good location. We went for an evening meal. Booked table in advance. We were put by a window overlooking a derelict shop, which was a bit off-putting whilst eating our meal.

Great atmosphere on Saturday night and good music with people dancing and singing along. Much different to the atmosphere of previous visits and first time back for us. We stopped visiting this pub due to the rude staff. Please to say it was almost back to how it once was, a lovely live music pub with friendly staff and happy customers. My only niggle was I went outside at 9:45 for a smoke and when I came back in I was beckoned over to the by a female staff member and was told “don’t go outside with your drink”. I was a little taken aback by the way she said it and t honestly didn’t see any signs stating this (I might have just not seen them if there are signs). Just feel it could have been said in a much friendlier way and not so abrupt. I visit monthly Weymouth so hope to come in soon and try the pub again. The music seems to have improved too.

Food was really good and excellent value for money. Ploughmans was lovely, and plentiful. Would definitely recommend.

The staff were attentive, nothing too much trouble. It appeared to be a family run pub. Special diet catered for without any fuss. I quote, “Tell me what you want, and I’ll sort it for you.” ……. and they did! The special diet requirement was tasty and the same for all the meals we ordered. Dog friendly. Clean cutlery/tables and glasses. Loos were clean. The atmosphere was lively and friendly.

In 25 years of visiting Weymouth, this was our first time having food in The Black Dog. We'd popped in for a swift drink a couple of days ago and liked the look of it so decided to come back. It's the oldest pub in Weymouth and has a fascinating, if macabre history. You can read all about it on the walls, they also have lots of pictures of Royal Navy ships, a nod to the naval history of the area. They have a typical pub menu, I had the lasagne, my wfe had chicken and bacon pie. We both announced them to be delicious. The staff were very friendly and happy to chat too. If you want cheap and cheerful, boil in the bag, go to Wetherspoons. If you want a good old fashioned British pub, with great food, go to The Black Dog.

Friendly welcoming staff. A good selection of ales, served perfectly. Family friendly. Reasonably priced food available.

Fab homemade food!! Very attentive staff, lovely atmosphere very relaxed but also fun and easy going. Nice clean lines beer was crisp and fresh!

This pub has been our ‘local’ every time we come to Weymouth, the service, staff, food and entertainment has always been outstanding - however, having visited several times in July we have been left extremely disappointed ( we came in several times to see if it was a one off but sadly it wasn’t). The pub has been taken over and certainly not for the better. A wonderful pub completely ruined - awful food, rude staff, absolutely horrible atmosphere. It has some really rough clientele but if that is what the new owners want, then fine it is their pub. Gutted, people use to slate the previous owners, but they certainly knew how to run a pub, sadly it seems The Black Dog now has gone downhill immensely 🤬 don’t try and fix something that wasn’t broken.

I last went into the Black Dog 16 years ago when I moved to Weymouth. It was not very nice and today went in with my husband on the off chance it might have improved. We loved it and ended up staying for 2 hours. The whole place looks lovely , re-vamped, cozy and the menu looks great too so we sill be back for food ASAP.

Just wanted a little sneaky Friday afternoon drink , I have not been in the Black Dog for 20 years + glad I did ended up staying for more than one :) great little pub . Will be back down there in future :) I did notice in bad reviews most were regards dogs and children, yep if you have badly behaved dogs or children best not visit :)

We return to this pub at least twice a year when we down that way, it’s a great pub with great staff and a great pint served, see you soon guys.

Been in this pub before and always had good food, but not today. I chose homemade faggots mash and peas. What a disappointment, firstly noticed garden peas instead of mushy and faggots did not resemble one. Tasted like stuffing balls. I took it back to the bar where the cook explained they are home made locally, well I suggest you change your supplier. As a girl from the black country I can tell you what was served up today was not faggots and peas. Very very disappointed so I paid £10.25 for nothing and no refund was offered, you won’t see me in there again.

Visited this pub many times in the past , food was always good , But today was very disappointing, food not half as nice as before and miserable bar staff , food overpriced , had an overall unpleasant experience today .

Lovely pub, come in with my son most Sundays for a spot of lunch, always friendly and the food is lovely hence why we keep returning! Lovely and clean as well which you can’t say for some other places absolutely will keep returning!

Shocking customer service. Staff shouting abuse, instead of talking. Calling customer a f*****g prick. Absolute joke, just because he was leaning on the railing outside where we were sitting. Will not be spending my money there again.

Called for a drink and selected a table outside as it was nice weather. My dog followed me partly through the door as he'd slipped his lead (he's only 11 months old) however he was quickly spooked by another dog who darted towards him unexpectedly. I ordered 2 drinks for me and Mrs and sat outside, our dog continued to bark quite a lot and within 2 minutes, a lady member of staff came out and spoke to us in a very rude way, saying "if your dog doesn't stop barking, I'll ask you to leave". Dog friendly pub it certainly isn't. AVOID if you have a four legged friend.

Rubbish. Apart from 1 lady the test of staff not friendly. We have a small dog sat outside. We were told she couldn't sit on the plastic chair? Not sure why. Won't be spending our money here again!

Called in one evening and decided to have some dinner. It was close to their finishing time but they were able to accommodate us. Really good home cooked and proper pub food and good prices. Nicely decorated pub and a cosy atmosphere. Friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

I got overcharged for drinks and it took two Weeks to get my money back. Would not visit again as don't like to think that I am not paying attention

After work wind down. Attentive staff who likes a laugh. Friendly, polite and refreshing. All bringing something to the character of this low ceiling, dark wood beamed pud. Always a pleasure.

Before my boyfriend and I visited Weymouth a few friends recommended this town pub. We visited on the first night with excitement to discover it was nothing special and we didn't return. The drinks were expensive. The music was live but not entertaining. The staff were lovely and one member ran out of the pub with my cardigan that I had left behind.

We love to visit the Black Dog whilst on our annual holiday to Weymouth. The staff are always so polite & friendly. Pub is always clean & I love that it has character. Served quickly & acknowledged immediately. Apologised for wait to be served, which was minimal. Very relaxed atmosphere & enjoyed hearing chat between a customer & barman. Upon leaving were thanked for our custom, told goodbye & take care. Children aren't permitted but there is good signage to make you aware of this so nasty surprises. Great pub & excellent staff! Look forward to a return next year.

Cosy old pub with several seating areas and a good atmosphere. The cask ale bar section has been replaced with a gin bar. Alas a sign of the times but still some good ales. Plenty of staff and live music at weekends.
