Great food and friendly staff, love it

We were made to feel welcome as soon as we walked in. An interesting (unusual?) choice of food that works really well. Also dog friendly. We'll be back!

We have been coming for weeks for the Thursday's specials. The food is Delicious, fresh and hot. The staff are very friendly and attentive. We thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere. Highly recommend. On the deal menu I recommend the steak and ale pie, the lasagna option and the burgers. We Have tried other options aswell and can say it's great to have lots to chose from. Great team !

The service was really good and had a great pub atmosphere. I would avoid the fried chicken burger as it didn't taste great and was extremely greasy. I would suggest they do proper fried chicken as opposed to the chicken they currently offer.

Great place just out of town. Free car park and local shops nearby. Booking is recommended on evenings when they push certain foods. Staff are polite, friendly and knowledgeable. Bar area and pub games also on ground floor. Food is good quality. Large groups catered for.

Absolutely brilliant family meal celebrating two grandsons' birthdays. There were 15 of us, and the food and service were faultless. Would highly recommend to anyone 👌it goes without saying that they are obviously child friendly.

Such an excellent place to eat and socialise,went there for Sunday lunch,but this time had the Steak and Ale short crust pastry pie green beans, peas and asked for roast potatoes instead of mash which is never a problem if you want to change, absolutely delicious.Are waitress on this visit was the lovely Lolo who hasn't been there very long but very attentive smiling and friendly a great addition to the team.Are favourite place to eat. Excellent in all ways possible ! We turned inland from the usual holiday resort restaurants etc to find this local pub in a small suburban shopping area with plenty of free parking on the car park serving it .. Atmosphere was great with local families and friends meeting , despite not booking ( not clear from the web site you could or should ) the friendly staff found us a table . The meal came quicker than any other pub experience and quality and value was just … well… brilliant - two for less than the price of one in the resort I: clearly recommend this pub and its staff most enthusiastically !

I have reveiwed the John Gregory before but I would still love to tell everybody who lives or visits the area to make a bee line for this pub/restuarant, you will definately not be dissapointed. From the minute you walk through the door it is outstanding. The staff are so attentive and polite and have great banter with all. There is a certain young lady (Chloe) who stands out (if any can) from the rest, she is always polite, funny and an absolute credit to the pub/restuarant. The meals (especially the fish & chips) are the best I have had, the service is as quick or slow as you wish and the food is superb, the chef must be paid a fortune, all the meals are served piping hot and the pricesare outstanding. I think Mon-Thurs, two mains are £16.50, what a bargain. I cannot reccomend this place enough, what a jewel in the crown to have in Southill, Weymouth. Please make sure you go, thanks Chloe and all the team, you are great!!!

First time here, and absolutely loved it. Staff couldn't of been more helpful or friendly. Lovely atmosphere, good food, piping hot and tasty, great value too. Very interesting menu, different from other pubs. Lovely relaxed vibes like Harvester used to be. Really enjoyed our visit, and will certainly be back. The lady and the gent who served us were brilliant. Jaffa cake dessert is a must.

Can't complain about the prices, reasonable food at reasonable prices.

Went last week with some friends, have not been to this pub in around 15/17 years and then it was a slight dissapointment. This pub/restuarant has changed drastically and all for the better. We were there for luch and noticed on the menu that Mon/Thurs 2 main meals are £16.50 with a huge choice of meals. They also have a specials board but we had fish & chips which come with Tartare sauce, big bit of fish, lots of chips & Mushy peas or garden peas. Wife had Scapmi & chips which were served with the same. Served by a very preety young lady called Chloe whose personality & demenour is fantastic, nothing was too much for her & she was just great, if only I was (55) years younger LOL I woud have married her. The food does not take overly long to come to your tabele & the greatest thing about it is, it is piping hot & so tasty. Brilliant meal and brilliant service. Went again today with other friends hoping that the service would be as good. It was absolutely fantastic. Four meals (piping hot again) this time, three of us had the fish platter which consited of same size of cod, plus 5/6 Scampi & large fishcake with all the trimmings. Other meal was just Scampi & chips (12 pieces, large). 4 Pints of London Pride, Brandy & coke, lareg white wine spritzer, flat white coffee & agian there she was Chloe, this girl is an asset to that place, she is so bubbly & friendly. Total cost £90.00 All I can say is, if in the area visiting or you live here check out the John Gregory at Southill for a great time. 6 stars out of 5.

This is are second time at this lovely pub. There's not enough spaces for more star ratings as l would have given more.The service from the time you arrive to the time you leave is very accommodating kind and friendly, Saffron was are waitress who looked after us and made sure we had everything.We had three Sunday Roasts and something from the menu which looked so tasty, compliments to the chief.Have rebooked as this is are go to place when visiting my parents.Well done to all the lovely staff in and behind the scenes kind Regards Anita Ricketts 🙂

Go to weymouth on holiday once or twice a year and we go here to eat everytime it's fantastic, wonderful food, staff are fantastic and prices are good too. Table service which is also a bonus.

Today I brought my son along for lunch, who is a very fussy eater and has certain habits with his food. Usually he just orders chips and peas and won't touch anything else, as he won't eat different foods to the norm at home, which is fruit, salad, cheese, eggs and very occasionally bacon. The lady who served us offered bacon, not realising it's the only meat he will eat and also realising he doesn't like things mixed on a plate to put each option in little bowls. Never seen my son so happy. Thank you for making him enjoy a meal out with us and not made to feel he's different. He kept saying about it and wants to come back again. I am really impressed with the young ladies awareness and acceptance of how he is. She is an asset to your team.

Visited to meet friends for Sunday Lunch... Great meal good service and helpful staff. Not the cheapest but the food was very good and all the staff had a smile. Although £172.00 for six initially sounds expensive but that included two rounds of drinks for six people.

The John Gregory was recommended to me this week,as my parents live there we went for father's day roast,and what an absolute delight to finally find somewhere that does a really great carvery, front of house was so welcoming,and are table service Chloe was so lovely to,we met the own that was as son has taken over know, really deserve to do well as they worked really hard to. An enjoyable experience. Good food, great atmosphere. We were there to celebrate one of my grandchildrens 11th birthday, in the dining area. Lovely service. Highly recommend.

We went to the John Gregory last night with friends and we took our Grandson too who is 3 1/2. We all had our meal and then our Grandson had a tantrum as he wanted more pudding and we said no. The manager came straight over and said that the table behind us had complained about the noise. He could clearly see that my husband had taken my Grandson outside to calm him down. I was completely stunned and was made to feel embarrassed rather than congratulated for trying to teach my Grandson boundaries. I then went over to the manager and asked who and why had they complained? He replied that nobody had actually complained and that it was his duty of care to the customers to come over. I then reminded him that it was a family pub and that we were regulars and it had never happened before. I will not be returning.

The food was standard pub grub, nothing wrong with it but not very exciting.

This is a great venue in the summer. The seating area is great, and the tapas style food is lovely!

I’m not in the habit of writing bad, moaning reviews so I’ll try and be constructive. The JG is our local pub where we’ve visited and eaten many times. I arrived this lunchtime with my 93-year old mum who needs a rollator to walk. We stood as instructed in order to be seated. However the staff I could see paid absolutely no attention to us. Not even a hello and welcome. Eventually one team member did come up and asked if we’d booked (we hadn’t, but had never had to). When we said no, she walked off again leaving my mum to struggle. I accept that they were busy, but you cannot simply leave an elderly person standing like that. When I tried to point this out when we finally did sit (out of necessity rather than being shown the table), she started arguing with me. When I pressed my point, her supervisor waded in and without trying to find out what the issue was, started defending the girl. (It wasn’t about her in the first place, but about my mum being left to stand too long). Supervisor suggested if we weren’t happy we could always choose to leave. Learning points: welcome your customers with a smile, provide training in dealing with the elderly, learn how to deal with de-escalate a situation rather than the opposite, listen to the customer - they’re not always right, but they may have a point. The food and value was as ever good.

Nice place to eat. On the cheaper side of pub grub, but the quality doesn't suffer. I would recommend booking in advance.

First time here traveled from Bournemouth to collect Bluetooth speaker from up the road ask the lady about the pub restaurant and she said it was very good so came in. Had chicken goujon burger and chips with bacon. Great service. Great timing staff well done to the kitchen 🐐

Proper pub grub well done! We always used to go prior to the refurbishment. The pub is nice, clean and warm! The staff are lovely and make you feel very welcome! I have visited 3 times over the last month and can say I have not been let down! There is something for everyone, good hearty pub grub and plenty of it! Just be warned it does get busy from 1200 to 1400. The beer is well priced to boot! I will definitely be back again.

Was very surprised and disappointed by the unwelcoming attitude of one of the Servers. Our meals were wonderful and served by a lovely Server. We will definitely return….we were just surprised.

I have been here on a number of occasions and have always had excellent service, staff are friendly and very helpful. Our food arrived quickly and was clearly freshly cooked. I would recommend this pub.

Do not go here they are very rude to there customers if you haven't got a table booked you get asked to leave and don't pay for there services will never go there again

What a wonderful experience…from making the initial booking with Liam to the actual visit. Nothing was too much trouble…from taking photos/ensuring we had enough drinks etc. The meals were excellent and the service was superb!

Went here for a wake so not our choice. However, food was OK for a chain and staff helpful.

Food was good, service was nice and quick. It was very busy, I think there was a wake happening which made you feel a little awkward trying to walk through to access the toilets or the bar.

We’ve visited numerous times now with our grandmother who lives in the estate locally, she always highly recommends and visits almost weekly herself. We visited of a Sunday late afternoon (3pm) and enjoyed the Sunday dinner, I was really pleasantly surprised such great portions and the roast potatoes were great! Our daughters portion was also huge, and great it was included in the kids menu as an option as she loves a roast diner. Our sons enjoyed a burger and fish fingers as they are not fans of a Sunday dinner themselves but definitely enjoyed their dinner here, one of the things we appreciate is the choice on offer for children having a son who’s not a fan of potatoes he randomly doesn’t like chips so having the option of rice with his burger suited him perfectly. The ice creams are always a hit for pudding too. The service is so personable and the staff know our grandmother well and treat her with such kindness. She doesn’t eat much herself anymore but enjoyed the soup and when she requested a yorkshire pudding to go alongside this was no problem at all. I’m sure we’ll be back we always enjoy our food each visit and have never been disappointed. The venue also easily accommodated us with our table of 8 being a large family. Toilets are always immaculately clean as well.

The John Gregory has become one of our favourite places to visit. The food is extremely good value especially with the offers they have and always superbly cooked,presented and delivered to our table promptly. However busy they are (which is normally the case!) the staff are always friendly and efficient and nothing too much trouble. There are a wide variety of drinks available at an affordable price. We are so impressed with the pub that we have booked our Christmas Day meal there. A special mention to Liam and Chloe and the rest of the team who are amazing. Thankyou for all your hard work!

This pub is how all pubs should be run, well done to the manager and all the staff. We arrived just as the kitchen was closing but were told it’s no problem and taken to a lovely table and given menus. We both opted for steak & ale pie with mash and veg which was lovely and hot and extra gravy in a jug on the side of the plate. Drinks arrived quickly as did the food. Atmosphere was nice and the pub was spotlessly clean. We will definitely be visiting here again soon. Thank you for looking after us so well.

The John Gregory is in Southill, a couple of mils out of town so it's taken us a while to visit. It certainly won't be long before visiting again. Set in a residential area, It has a very nice interior and friendly staff. The menu and meals we saw looked very inviting so looking forward to sampling next time.

Visited here for the first time and was very impressed the staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble me and my granddaughter had the chicken and my husband and grandson the gammon from the two for £16 menu we was all happy with our meals and really enjoyed them will definitely visit again when on holiday .

It’s difficult to imagine a better experience in a pub! All the staff are friendly and helpful and work so hard- well done to Sam, Chlo, and Stacey. The food is excellent The prices are competitive , and there is a great Monday to Thursday meal deal and there’s a Fish and chip fryday deal too. And lovely puddings . As a side issue the toilets are always immaculate. The front of house staff and superb kitchen staff make this place such a success

Came here on a Saturday evening for a family celebration meal. Despite being in a large group, with at least one other large group in progress, we were served fairly quickly and didn't have a long wait for food I had a steak which was one of the best steaks I've had for a long time and miles ahead of those from other chain pubs. Everyone else also commented how nice their food was too. I'd definitely recommend here and will visit again if I get the chance.

A few friends and I came here this evening for dinner with our children, we were all having a great time. A couple of the children went over to play pool (they are 6). We were sat in a table which we could see them, the manager then decided to go over and snatch the cues out of their hands and told them they could no longer play, came over to our table, gave us our money back and abruptly told us they could no longer play anymore as they needed to be supervised which, we agreed we would have went over and done, but started to get angry with us and told his staff to no longer serve us drinks. I am very appalled that this man is even a manager, making my son cry and being rude towards regular customers. He also speaks to his staff like this too!! Make it aware that children need to be supervised, there are no signs up to say otherwise, also, we were well in site of them!! Rude!!!

Everyone in my party liked their food, but although there was a fair selection of vegan food, and vegan wine, there was no plant based milk for hot drinks?! Told 'we're just a pub'

Highly recommend this establishment. It is a very welcoming pub/restaurant. Sunday roast was very good and reasonably priced. Went back next day for lunch. Had the light lunch. Limited choice but what we had was great and very good value @ £6.49 each. If we are ever in the Weymouth area again, we will certainly plan to eat there. The Mac Cheese is exceptionally good. 👌👍
