This is the 2nd time we’ve eaten here this year. The staff are lovely welcoming and attentive. The locals seem lovely & proud of their pub! The beer was outstanding, the landlord let me try all the ‘hand pull’ Thwaites, really very good pint of Original, I had I think 5? The food was the best pub food we’ve had for a long time. The Halloumi fries were just fabulous. We also had burgers, Hunters Chicken & Fish & Chips. All very good portions, hot and delicious. Thank you so much & we will be back!

For a start the pub is NOT in Brookhouse it's High Bentham. Went with a couple of friends for dinner. We had two sirloin steaks that were excellent, cooked as we liked it, very reasonable price too, triple cooked chips. Home made onion rings. Roy and his team have got it spot on will be back. Would be nice to have a greater choice of beers, but overall excellent.

Nothing was too much trouble - in fact the main bar was "closed" on a Saturday night and allocated just for the party. The food that was laid on was excellent and many people commented how tasty it was. There was deliberately only background music and this worked well (after Covid was lessening) so people could chat. The price for event was very reasonable. I would thoroughly recommend the venue, staff and atmosphere!

I think it's good that they don't try to over-complicate things, but still have a few interesting options. The beef stew was very nice and a bit different to mainstream dishes. I don't think they overcomplicate things though and that is good; more like pubs and pub food used to be. A good meal at a reasonable price.

So, the food is good, but we are not impressed this evening. We ordered a meat feast pizza, there was no pepperoni, we said that was ok, then they said we couldn’t order a meat feast as there was no Cajun Chicken! That was fine, right up to the point when the locals on the next table received a Cajun Chicken Hanging Kebab, just as we were finishing our meal! Disappointing!

Used this pub many times for a meal over last 3 years. Always thought food was good quality and reasonable priced. But last 2 visits seems to have gone down. Quite often certain items not available, and twice have ordered pie which has always been lovely, sadly not anymore, they have been heated in microwave and become rock hard and the filling burnt to a crisp. also hubbie had fish and chips, again poor quality. frozen chips, and peas, and greasy fish. seems like they have changed suppliers. Needs to improve. otherwise will lose custom.

We called in here for some lunch after being directed by someone local who said the food was really good. Nice welcoming atmosphere on arrival, they clearly have a regular clientele who were in there who were more than happy to give us directions for a more picturesque walk back to our campsite. Very friendly. I had the Stew Pot which was absolutely delicious, not an ounce of fat to be seen on the beef. My partner had the hanging kebab which was again absolutely delicious. Highly recommended for food, we will be back.

Andy and his wife are great hosts, although this was the first time we have stayed overnight at the Bull we have had many nights there having drinks and meals, we have a lodge on Riverside caravan park but January & February the park closes. During Jan & Feb we always travel and check on our lodge and leave after an hour or two if everything is OK ready for the season to start 1st March. This time because we had been at a party in Blackpool Friday night and stayed over in Blackpool we thought we would make a weekend of it and stay in High Bentham and meet up with the many friends we have in the village. The Room we stayed in at the Bull was very clean and spacious, lots of hot water for a bath etc. TV good, bed comfy. The breakfast on Sunday morning was massive, everything you would want from cereal, FULL English, large pot of tea or coffee, toast, jams etc. presented beautifully at the time we requested 9.0 am, forgot to mention Saturday night meal again was excellent, we eat there regular through out the season. Both my wife and I would have no hesitation in recommending the Bull to stay, just eat or have a drink. We have stayed at another pub in the village once, won't name it but stay clear!Well done Andy & Carole for making us so welcome.............see you in March!

We've visited this pub twice in 2 years. The first time, we had a meal and we're overcharged by £20. Went through the bill with staff to no avail. The woman at the bar argued black was white and became quite aggressive. The meal was over an hour in arriving. No apology even when asking the waiting staff 3 times where the meals were. The second visit, we couldn't get to the bar (only drinks this time) as the locals set up their stools and refused to move, even holding seats which were empty! The bar lady was very snappy and served regulars before us. We didn't challenge anyone, drank up and left. Last visit!

The Bull has recently changed over hands and has slipped considerably, particularly with its food. This Pub used to be the Hub of Bentham with Jazz every other Monday night, a quiz for o my 50p (including a delicious supper and raffle!), And many more amazing events. Now Jazz only happens on the first Monday of the month and the Quiz's supper is now poor quality, players used to receive dishes like chilli or fish and chips but now expect to receive over cooked pasta with tinned tomatoes and burnt cheese. If you're not fussed about food or events and just want a drink: The Bull is affiliated with Thwaits brewery, and so are many other pubs in the area. Sadly unless there is an event on the atmosphere in the pub is dead. It's no longer anything special. Which is a true shame because it used to be a wonderful place to be!

Firstly, the lady who served us was polite and helpful the entire time we were there despite her being by herself and the pub being busy due to the lunch rush. I think she was the owner.I ordered the steak baguette, my mum ordered the tuna baguette And my daughter had sausages. We asked if we could change the mash and beans to chips and cucumber for my daughter, as she's quite picky, this was done with no problems. We waited about 20 minutes for food, which we didn't mind as like I previously stated, the lady serving was by herself and though rushed off her feet was still efficient. When I went to the bar, I had to wait a couple of minutes before being served as food was going out, but I was acknowledged and then apologised to also.I would recommend this as a place to eat. Thank you for your service and the food was fabulous and extremely well priced (£20 for 3 people)

We were staying in a caravan nearby for the weekend and although there are plenty of other places to eat, we came here 3 times! The first night my husband had a serloin steak, which he asked for blue, and for the first time in a long while, that's how it was served. Most steaks are served on a sizzling platter, as stated on the menu, but his came on a plate so it wasn't over - cooked. This was one of the main reasons we came back. The second night he had the same and it was just as well cooked. That and the amazing hand made chips! I had the surf and turf, which was lovely, and the fish pie the next night, which was amazing - packed full of fish in a tsty sauce. The kids' meals were great too, given rave reviews by my 2 kids. As for pudding, we tried most of them, all delicious. One of the locals we got talking to recommended the Sunday lunch, I'm glad we came back! We had a 3 meat roasts and they were all melt in the mouth. Mine are too old for high chairs, but we saw a few around. And I nearly forgot to mention the prices - I don't know how they do it! So reasonable. Guinness on draft, wine by the bottle or glass, good cider and the usual selection of other drinks. All in all, highly recommended and if we're ever in the area again, we'll be back! Thanks to all the staff for making us so welcome.

We arrived in Bentham 7pm last night tired hungry and needing the loo having travelled a long way for the band we were with to play at the hogs and heifers just up the road. We knew the hogs would not be serving food so I went into the black bull to look at the menu and see what time they served till. While in there I used the loo and asked 3 lads at a table what the food was like. They said it was good and that the pub was still serving so I started to go outside to call to my husband to park up and come in. As I opened the door the people stood at the bar and the staff behind the bar shouted out an insult to me for using the loo. They must have thought I was leaving without buying anything. Anyone with any manners would have asked if they could help me and I would have told them that we were coming in to eat. When I told them what our intentions were the staff never said anything and the people near the bar thought it was funny! Needless to say we didn't eat there after all but at the coach house across the road where the staff were very friendly and the food was lovely! I cannot comment on the food at the Black Bull as we did not eat there.

Judging by the reviews of other people from this place, I must be wrong. We visited The Black Bull Hotel for food on 9th August - i think the local football team had just played a game because there was a little bit of a spread on for the lads. The local guide described The Black Bull as 'A Family Pub' - so we expected that it would be OK to take our 17 month old daughter here for dinner. I was enticed by the 'Home Made' text on so much of the menuService:- We asked at the bar if there was a table for 4+High Chair - the guy sat at the bar (who worked there (though it was debated by the lady behind the bar later when they had a rather public, albeit brief, snipe at each other)), indicated to a table behind us with his nose and just said 'That one's free', pretty poor show. Food was delivered on hot plates with no mention of this, including a hot plate being put within reaching distance of my daughter. Food:- I had the Surf & Turf, my wife wanted the Chicken pie but there was none left (at 6pm on a Saturday?!?) so ended up with the Ribs, my dad had the Steak Pie, mum had the chicken burger, and our little one had the fish fingers. It took 40 minutes for the food to arrive, which I can excuse if it's particularly busy or the food is of good quality (football lads had tailed off, and it wasn't good quality)Surf & Turf: i asked for my steak medium, i like it with a bit of blood in it. What I received was rather strange. A salad and a bowl of chips on a plate, and then my steak (topped with prawns) delivered on a Sizzler Plate - this is most weird and there's absolutely no need for it to occur. I cut into the steak and it was cooked beyond well done and dry. I admit, it would've been a beautiful cut of meat if the cook would've done it properly. I cook steak for friends and family on a regular basis and have no problem at all meeting their demands for cooking times. The prawns on top i think came out of a bag in a freezer, they were tiny (almost krill like), were mushy and only had the garlic butter taste to them. The chips were home cut, but over cooked and i could taste old oil on them. Ribs: they fell off the bone - but tasted shop bought (in fact, she said that they tasted like the ones we've had previously from Asda), again, served with the same chips and Salad as my steak, she wasn't impressed with the chips either.Steak & Ale Pie: i'd read reviews that this was more like a stew with a case, i thought it might've been a one off. The pie needs more thickness to it - he described the meat as chewy and unsavoury. He left most of it.Chicken Burger: What ARE you doing? This was 2 pieces of cheap reformed chicken in a batter, probably deep fried in the pub's frier - absolutely nothing in the way of quality. I'm not proposing that the place go all out and start making their own chicken burgers, but I get better from my local take-away for half the price. Finally, my daughter's Fish Fingers: well she loves fish fingers - we've tried her with numerous good brands and she always eats them - she didn't eat these, and when we tasted them we found them to be flavourless and akin to cheaper ones on the market.I fed this back to the waitress as she collected the plates, and received a 'Oh, i'll tell the chef' no apology or let me speak to the boss or anything like that.As we were getting ready to leave, we had to change my daughter's nappy - so my wife & mother went to the toilet where they found nothing for a baby change - the same applied in the gents. This coupled with the door to the main road, and the willingness to sit a toddler right next to it, i'd question whether or not this venue is 'Family Friendly' - they do have level access for push chairs, and there is spacious access around tables, and they have a high chair - but that is all they have for kids, that coupled with the swearing of the football lads..... i'd say it's not very family friendly at all.I've had better pub foods, in better environments and yes, they were independent pubs. Overall, I wasn't impressed, in fact I was very disappointed - so much promise, but not much delivered.

It's better inside than you'd expect from the outside. We visited on "Steak Night" - but they ran out of steaks. The home-made steak and ale pie with crispy chips and a couple of veg, was one of the best. (they called it a pie, but I'd call it a casserole with a pastry lid. Anyway, it was good to eat, whatever it was called.) They serve the fantastic Thwaites Wainwright beer too. The only downside is that there are few, if any, seats where you can avoid the TVs.

Visited with friends and had a great meal. This is good quality local produce and great value. A traditional Sunday lunch main course was only £4.50!! with a choice of meat. I can recommend the roast beef and a friend had the pork which again was really good. We enjoyed so much that we returned for an evening meal later in the week and had the rack of ribs and rib eye steak with hand cut chips cooked in beef dripping - highly recommended. Enjoyed this pub/restaurant so much we can't wait to visit again when next in the area.

Visited on a Tuesday " Posh Nosh Night" with special menu - one course £10.95, 2 courses £14.95 or 3 courses £17.95. A good range of approx 5 starters , 6 mains & 4 puds. The staff were all very friendly,; tables nicely set with white table cloths & food good well presented. There were plenty of locals in for evening. It is still very definitely a pub rather than a restaurant but they certainly made a great effort to attract business & deserve to do well.My only criticism was the lack of wine choice - the only dry white was a Chardonnay. They don' t need an extensive wine list just a Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon blanc as well. Will visit again when in the area

Had the Hunters chicken here for lunch the other day.Served with home made chips and fresh salad an absolute steal at £10.00 including a pint. There is also an offer for 2 meals for £6.00.For a freshly cooked meal with homemade chips this place can't be beaten for the price.

We called in here to break up a car journey and my wife had the sausage bap and I had the bacon bap. The baps were a good size with plenty of filling, indeed my wife was unable to finish hers. All the staff were efficient and helpful and we may well have to return again in the not too distant future.

Got seated with menu then waited!! After 15 minutes I had to ask for order to be taken. Food was good when it arrived. Our waitress was less than efficient. Other customers arriving after us were served some time before us.

When we walked in the staff were very polite. However when i went to the bar to order food there was a young girl near me who got shouted at by a member of staff while they where behind the bar, Very unprofessional !! And some of the things she said were awful overall the food was okay, we will return hoping its a more friendly experience next time.
