The Black Bull in Hillingdon

This was our first pub visit in over a year, so needless to say we couldn’t wait for a few pints of draught beer! We chose The Black Bull for the good reason that it’s about 500 yards from our house(!) But we did have a few nice times in there pre-covid, so were eager to get back.They’ve done up the garden really nicely - with an outside bar & lots more tables than they used to have. Unfortunately, on the beautiful, sunny Tuesday evening that we visited, the outside bar was closed & they were completely uninterested in serving anyone.I’m more than happy to get my own drinks in normal times, but because table service is still a covid requirement, we were bound by them coming around. There were about 4-5 people coming out at various points serving people, but for the most part, they were chatting among themselves/non-existent. No one came anywhere near our table for the first 20 minutes we were there. And it wasn’t busy - with maybe 10 of the 30 outdoor tables occupied & only a few tables occupied inside. I eventually flagged someone down to take our first drink order (2 pints of beer; nothing fancy). But then, once we finished (after about 25 minutes), we waited for them to come around again to take our second drinks order... & waited... & we eventually left (as did most of the tables around us). I am sad that this was our first experience after such a long time away from going to a pub. But, more than anything else, I’m actually more bemused at how - after the terrible 16 months the pub industry has had - The Black Bull thinks this is an acceptable level of customer service to welcome people back. As with all pubs, I wish them the very best of luck, but I certainly won’t be coming back anytime soon.

I had a lovely couple of hours outside with friends. My friend ordered a cab but it didn't show up for ages. Staff showed concern and offered a chair to my friend.It was so nice to see the bar staff doing their best to try to help. Thank you Vanessa, Mick and Craig, it was appreciated

Omfg you are never going to believe the phone call I've just had with Mr whelan. I messaged him about work he rang me to tell me I had been sacked... but listen to the reason I was sacked tho.. You ready..I was sacked for kissing some chick while I was working like what the hell. But this all happened 2 days before the lock down and have only decided to tell me now 1 day before the pubs reopen. I just just can't rap my head around.. being sacked for kissing some chick. No doubt it had something to do with that nasty jess

Horrible experience in the black bull. The lady who runs management Jess made our experience awful was so miserable when serving drinks and made us feel uncomfortable. Avoid at all costs if you are looking for a social night out, used to love it here.

I’ve always loved this pub but noticed it changing before lockdown and after the friendliness of staff gone seems change of staff all the time you go in I think you need new management bring back james or ed best ones ever

Not a bad pub and has clearly reinvented itself with the gastro and child/family friendly bias. However, the most expensive pub in a 5-mile radius. £4.50 for Amstel and £5.30 for Moretti in Zone 5 is steep and borderline cheeky. I’d recommend at least 5 other pubs within a 15 minute walk that are better and certainly better value for money.

Just been in the Black Bull for St Patrick's day understandably under the circumstances the live music has been cancelled but not an excuse to serve the worst pint of Guinness in the area

We came here to have Sunday lunch and watch the rugby. It was busy but our table gave us a great view of the tv and we were served promptly. The roast pork was superb- very tender and flavoursome. The beef was a bit overcooked but my partner still enjoyed it. The roast potatoes, veg and Yorkshire pud were plentiful and cooked perfectly. Price us very reasonable too. Around us people were eating pizzas and pies which also looked good so we'll have to come back and try those next time!

Had a really nice Sunday lunch at the Black Bull recently really good food and service. Didn't expect the food to be as good but it was and it was very reasonable priced. The Black Bull is a very nice pub and has some great staff who work hard to make you welcome. A very enjoyable experience and well worth a visit.

I went to the pub for a cup of coffee last Sunday with my partner (Asian background) after our afternoon stroll in the nature..I asked the guy at the bar if they do any coffee there and if we can sit in the garden.. Instantly I just felt some weird attitude and the guy asked me twice more to make sure he understood me correctly... if it’s the coffee that we want? Then pointed to my partner to take off his baseball cap and reminded that we are in the pub before welcoming us to sit in the garden... Honestly in my whole 16 years of living in London this was the first time I experienced such an attitude and truly felt unwelcome...I don’t even know if it’s to do with race or just poor manners...I am from Lithuania originally currently writing my dissertation in English and never had an issues ordering a cup of coffee... Coffee is coffee in many languages and we normally take hats off in the church not in the pub...and my partner wasn’t the only person wearing a cap anyway...also we wanted to sit in the garden to enjoy the sunshine...Obviously we left...I will never ever go back... I feel sad and ashamed for such behaviour...truly the worst place I ever came across.

Came to the Black Bull and the music was brilliant - Paul Watchorn and Paul Malone were excellent - a great booking.The pub was busy but the bar staff were friendly and efficient so no long wait for drinks. Thank you everyone at the Black Bull for a great evening.

found this place by driving past last week, so thought it would be good for lunch. Popped in with a mate and had lunch - food was great, service good and the staff really friendly Very family oriented very relaxed atmosphere

We had a family meal at the BB to celebrate Mothers day. Although the pub was busy the service we received from the minute we walked in was great. The Atmosphere was friendly & relaxed but more importantly the food was excellent. I Would highly recommend the BB as a pub & a place to eat

I tend to go here at least one a week with friends and family. Good menu and a good price especially if you are older as you get a 25% discount on food from Monday - Thursday

Loved this pub. I often pass it and have wanted to go in and I finally did last week. We had two pizzas. They are massive and amazing! The staff too are so friendly. The pub also has a lovely feel to it.Will definitely go back!

You can't really complain about the place too much, you pay for what you get, food is quite low quality compared to other pub grub in the area, but then it is quite inexpensive so thats only to be expected. Pints are still reasonably price, probably one of the cheaper in the area, can get a bit rowdy, but its not too bad

top beer and food and staff 5/5 all day long been in a number of times with family members including children and always been greeted very nice and made to feel at home. top pub

Desde fuera parece lobdly, mucho cuidado y atención a las cestas de rebosamiento de hermosas flores. Fuimos a tomar algo rápido, el personal muy servicial y rápido para servir. El sábado en el jardín de la cerveza que tenía muchos asientos y era mantenido nos volveremos. Bebidas a precios razonables. No comimos aquí ya que había comido antes pero habría tenido nos hubiéramos quedado más tiempo, ya que el lugar estaba impecable.

Fuimos al Black Bull para un almuerzo familiar de la semana. Pedimos un montón de bebidas suaves y sorprendió a cargar 8 libras. 80 de 2 pintas y 2 mitades de proyecto de coca cola! La comida que pedimos era aceptable y buena parte tamaño grande, pero el servicio era lento, dado el pub estaba casi vacío. El principal problema, sin embargo, fue cuando fuimos a liquidar la factura de 50 libras. El miembro del personal nos dijo que teníamos que pagar un recargo de 40 p si pagamos con tarjeta de débito. Como quisiéramos para dividir la cuenta entre dos tarjetas que 40 p por tarjeta. Me interesaría saber por qué el pub sentir justificado en cobrar por utilizar la tarjeta de débito de una cuenta grande en este día y edad.

Yo soy un habitual en el bol. Mis mejores amigos madre pasado lejos y él me preguntó si nueva un lugar apropiado para la llamada. Me recomendó el negro Bol. Él, y todo lo que puedo decir es wow! El buffet era increíble el servicio del personal fue fantástico. Todo el mundo estaba diciendo lo bueno que era. Para resumir se hizo un día muy triste encantador por el Equipo Black Bull especialmente Ed el director que hizo la milla extra para asegurarse de que todo era genial. No dudaría en recomendar el toro a cualquiera por una mejor calidad de celebración muchas gracias

They are still charging people 40p to use debit cards on every transaction! In this day and age. Absolutely ridiculous. Puts me off ever going back on principle. The food is good and the staff are nice. Such a shame.

Mi familia y yo pasamos el almuerzo de domingo. Todos disfrutamos de nuestra comida. Tuve el combo asado, que es toda la carne y los vegetales habituales. Hay una selección de 3 postres. Tuve el apple desplomarse. Crítica constructiva, usan menos canela, fue a ser abrumador y más y menos fruta. estuvó Aparte del postre todo estaba bien. Buen servicio, buenos precios y limpio. Lo recomiendo. Aparcamiento también.

Fantástico pub. Cerveza fría de hielo. El personal del bar son excepcionales. La única mejora sería más Diamond neil y si este colega llamado Ollie Corbyn volvería a casa. En general, el mejor pub en Inglaterra. Camarera con pelo rojo es genial y no ai mal.

Good is what you pay for - basic,Sunday roast is basically microwaved to heat up and that is why I will never have a Sunday roast here again,roast potatoes were just reheated,disappointing really as it is a local to me and now go elsewhere for a Sunday roast with my family.

We had arranged a funeral reception for 60 people and not having been to this place before was a bit apprehensive. But should not have been! Both staff, venue, food were amazing. A section of the pub had been set aside for us, with drinks table. A beautiful finger buffet was laid on which we all enjoyed immensely. Food just kept coming out! The whole reception was very reasonable and James and his team could not do enough for us. Thank you all so very much and we look forward to returning for more happier events.

Good quality food drink and entertainment found this place to be clean and staff were extremely friendly throughout our visit as we returned following day to have something to eat

Standard Pub grub. Good quality, good size portions good price. Great to be able to have our two well behaved dogs with us on their leads.

Awful place so unfriendly,staff are rude at hell,girl swearing at the bar still unsure if she worked there as she was in between the bar,would never ever go back,they are rude about children,absolutely awful

Very nice and clean pun, very friendly staff, good atmosphere. A good choice of beers and drinks. Nice food especially ribs in barbecue sauce . Large background garden with outside tables. Also one additional covered patio where you can set , and smoke.

we have lived in Ruislip for over 28 years, when we first moved here we visited the Black Bull for a drink & did not like the experiance so we never went back, but the pub was revampt a while ago so we thought we would treat our selves to a Sunday dinner, when we arrived we went to the bar & ordered a drink we said we would like dinner could we start a tab he said yes gave us a number then took my visa card, I asked if he was keeping my card he said yes, I felt very uneasy leaving my card with a stranger. We got a table & went back to order dinner, I waited for what seemed a long time untill the bar maid finnished her conversation with her work mate, I though that was rude,our meal arrived it did not take to long, my wife & I both had pork, I felt the cabbage was not cooked, the mash potato was warmed up & lumpy, the crackling on the pork was soft, so it was not crackling, the meat itself was nice, the rest of the meal was poor to average, The atmosphere in the pub was terrible with most of the televisions blurting out football & a couple of televisions on rugby, not very good if you are trying to have a conversation, when I went to pay my bill the two bar maids were having a nice little chat ignoring me, again rude. we also paid 40p to use my debit card, rip off. I will not be going back for a meal

My husband and i recently moved into the area and have been looking for a good place for sunday lunch, and found The Black Bull.Its a warm and friendly place that offers a choice of roasts, which is what we want as my husband likes beef, and i prefer chicken.My husband said his beef was excellent, it came with all the trimmings as did my chicken, and with lots of well cooked vegetables all covered with a rich and tasty gravy. My chicken was really good and i finished it even though i was full half way through! We will be regulars every sunday now

Great night it was packed in there, Karaoke Great as usual. Nice seeing everyone and bumping into old lot I use to see in there about 35 years ago.

Fantastic bar staff and great food. Best pub in Ruislip. Great music, great bands and karaoke. I'm so lucky to have this local pub on my door step.

I was invited to the Black Bull by a friend of mine. My wife and I aren't really pub food diners, but The Black Bull changed our prospective. I started with BBQ chicken wings, they were really good! The sauce was just right, and cooked beautifully, wished only that there was more. My wife chose the Deep fried Brie, something she always chooses when we dine out, but many times it's either over- cooked therefore all liquid inside, or under cooked which makes it hard and sometimes cold in the middle, this was just right. The main course I opted for was the Chicken Breast stuffed with Chorizo....Really good!! You have to try this! My wife's steak was was cooked medium as requested, and not under or over as usually happens. All in all, with a wonderful Irish atmosphere, and good food, you won't find better. Try it and see.....

We held a family funeral wake here recently and the staff arranged the food for 60 people. We asked for hot food as well as finger food and we were very impressed with both the quality and the quantity. There were about 70 of us in the end and there was more than enough food for everyone. The hot beef stew with mashed or roast potatoes was delicious. The staff were very friendly and could not have done anything more for us. We could not have picked a better place and we would certainly recommend this place for a meal at any time but also for any kind of party or celebration.

Visited this pub for the first time last Friday. The place was really busy so I guess a lot of people must like it. On the plus side there was a good range of beers and plenty of efficient bar staff, so service was good. Prices were reasonable too. But the food has to rate as the worst I have eaten. Ever! It was not as if we ordered anything complicated. Just standard pub fare.So this place is OK if you want a drink in a lively atmosphere but to be avoided if you are hungry.

Love this place on A Friday night usually great fun with the karaoke DJ but to my surprise is no longer there atmosphere is just not the same. Bring him back!

Since its renovation a while back- its a great place to be.Good quality pub meals with a decent pint - served to you by a great team behind the bar!Mark and his team are always polite, helpful, friendly and up for a laugh.Quality, Friendly place to go!

Excellent pub that is suitable for young and old. Place is always spotless and I find all the staff very pleasant and helpful. Landlord is always welcoming and I think he runs a good pub. It does get busy with younger people at weekends but the door men do a good job of keeping it under control and I have never seen trouble in there . One of the better pubs in the area for a nice meal and drink in a nice atmosphere.

This pub has gone downhill. Lots of underage drinkers and the manager is rude. Will not return! Such a shame as most of the staff are very pleasant

I have been going to Black Bull for a couple of years now and what a great pub. The best in the area! The staff are fantastic , friendly and have a great sense of humour. The food was not that good in the beginning but has massively improved .I had a sirloin steak last night and it was delicious, better than any other restaurant in the area (I have tried them all) and it's only £12.95 . They also do a homemade vegetarian lasagne prepared by there in house Italian chef , very tasty indeed. I found the manager Mark very helpful, polite and welcoming. I highly recommend this pub the nicest and cleanest in the area and the Guiness is how a Guinness should be smooth and creamy!

I am a regular visitor to the pub , mainly at weekends. It has a good team of barstaff but have found the manager, Mark, to be extremely rude on more than a few occasions! He has no people skills whatsoever! This has been a problem for a fair while but no contact information to takes these complaints to a higher level is available. The pub would be a far better place without him. On the plus side it is very clean and welcoming. The food is presented and cooked well, and the Barstaff are very attentive. It's just a shame that the negative issues can't be addressed to a higher authority as this pub could be buzzing with the right management.

Great local to meet up with friends. Big garden space and we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy the sunshine. I remember driving past the Black bull before it had a refurb and it wasn't inviting at all. The new look is great and I would definitely return. One thing to note is that they charge you to use your card so make sure you take cash :)

I called in last weekend, I find the manager Mark rude, the beer is terrible, he just lands a pint to you without you asking and insists that you want it, not worth the argument and i payed for it but wont be forgetting this, old school if i want a drink i will ask for it not an over order he makes and decides he will push it on another customer. Nice pub good location but the staff need to learn a bit of manners and treat there customers with respect.

on a recent visit to Ruislip, i decided to have a lunch out and eat in the black bull public house, on Victoria road. we were shown to a table, by the manager Mark. the food that i received, that arrived within 20-30 minutes, was really tasty. the manager paid us a lot of attention, as a matter of fact all the staff were very attentive, and pleasant. the bar was clean, the tables were clean. the only thing wrong was that i got no free beer. we would recommend this pub, especially to anyone who has children, for a sunday lunch. and for the price of the food, i will be visiting the black bull again.

I am amazed that the cleaner of the black bull Jane is now part of the management I hope she can turn this pub around as it is going down hill.

I was here Xmas eve and I waited 5 minutes which wasn't bad considering how busy it was . I no all the staff and they did a great job . I wish them a happy new year and I'll be in tomorrow

Christmas Eve one of the busiest nights in any pub. As a local to the black bull I went there on xmas eve. Disco playing waited 15 mins to be served not enough bar staff on for the amount of people there. A few boisterous young men at pool table and in my opinion bar staff should have stopped serving them but the bouncers seemed to turn a blind eye to them and there behaviour.To everyone's surprise the lights went on at 10.20pm and the disco stopped no one seemed to know what was going on. Well within minutes we found out the pub was CLOSING at 11pm I was in shock it was Christmas Eve pubs stay open to at least 12.00Then to add insult to customers the staff were telling customers it was down to licencing laws that they only had so many hours allocated to them over the xmas period. How stupid do they think there customers are? Never in all my years of drinking in the Black Bull have they ever closed at 11pm on Christmas Eve.My advice to all check opening times for NEW YEARS EVE before going to the Black Bull

My friend and I were meeting an old friend who lives abroad. I still love the Bull but it wasn't full to capacity like it should be on a Friday night and I don't think it was because the doorman were over-enthusiastic, a great karaoke was on and our friend remarked how quiet it was, but he also remarked about the buses going past almost empty. It's still a very good pub, the staff are pleasant and efficient, I wish they stocked bottled Becks but apart from that we had a good evening.

Found the staff and locals to be very friendly, spent some time at the bar and enjoyed the lively atmosphere. Food was alright, fairly decent pub grub - very good portions, you won't go hungry.

Friendly staff, great atmosphere.. Relaxed and welcoming and great sports TVs surrounding the pub so good views where ever you were to sit

Have gone here many times as I'm a local and each time I swear I won't go back. This time I think ill do myself a favour and go to another local. On a whole, The staff, although efficient can be rude and the land lady is cocky bordering on nasty at times. I really don't know why?The Sunday roast is too small and always dry and hard and poor value for money. I gave the pub the benefit of the doubt a number of times, putting the lack of good standards down to teething problems but the pub is open long enough now to have sorted out any problems they might have had. I feel the pub is so concerned about making as much money as possible from punters that they have comoromised on food quality and don't care about keeping regular customers happy or making them feel welcome. The final straw came last week when the security staff began shouting at me and my friends to leave now despite having just being served a round of drinks by the bar man at closing time. He was aggressive and rude and I'm quite frankly too mature to put up with that treatment from anyone, let alone a jumped up bouncer on a massive ego trip. I'm sure the management won't care reading this review but a good bar manager would.My friends and I vowed never to return.

A strangely hostile atmosphere for a pub, where you would think it would be in the proprietor's interest to be welcoming to customers. Went there twice, to give it a second chance but never again. Inexplicable.

Called into The Black Bull for a snack and a few drinks. I found the staff extremely friendly and very helpful. We ordered a club sandwich which really was very good and some drinks, service was excellent. On a warm day this really is the place to go and they have a delightful beer garden, it is beautiful with lovely flower pots around - very impressive! I will be calling again when I am in the area.

Went with lunch with my mum the landlady is very abrupt and moody. ordered food was awful chicken wings were like bullets so hard. Club sandwich sloppy.

The Bull is a really nice local, the place looks great, the service at the bar is excellent and good cold beer. The only thing that let's it down is the food, I have eaten in there 3 times and each time been disappointed!! If they can get that right then it will be the best pub around!

First visit today to this pub , first impressions were that it seemed a nice place, clean etc. nice layout, lovely garden also smoking shelter for those who wish too. All was good and thought yes i like it here- ordered sunday roast @ £8.95 each - awful the roast potatoes were like bullets- basically it had obviously been kept warm then reheated - it really was bad, we were very hungry so attempted to eat some it . We also told the waitress/ bar person collecting up our plates , we were not happy and did not like it and told her why. It is not her fault but you would think the manager wld hav the decency to come and see us - but no. So i dont think we will go back , we are local as well , so local custom will be going elsewhere.

Absolutely love this pub. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Atmosphere is great. Entertainment at the weekends is fantastic. Decorated to a high standard. Homemade food menu. Family friendly. Would highly recommend a visit.

Went in here on saturday and it looks great and it is not such the man pub it used to be, I was impressed and they had bouncers on the door whom were doing a good job by going around and keeping order as well as having a laugh with the punters.I think I would come back again and did not really want to go in there but my aunty persuaded me and glad she did.Would Recommend

I spent most of my 20s in this pub and was a regular until about a year before it shut down. I wish it wasn't listed as a restaurant, just a pub with food. If footy is on the box you're going to get the usual suspects shouting and swearing at the box. They've taken away the rack around the top of the bar and the place is generally much lighter now (more make-up required!); the loos are clean and there's a smoking area where the garden used to start, I think there's a proper beer garden further back but of course you have to run the gauntlet of smoke!!. All in all I really like the pub. One lady (may be the landlady) always appears to be really grumpy and the other night a barmaid didn't understand me, but got there in the end; I also noticed 3 people behind the bar dwindled to one, at one point, and one of my friends took an age to get served. Will still be back

Been in the area for 5 days holiday and ate there 4 nights. The food was really good and inexpensive. The pub had a really good atmosphere. It is nicely decorated (and the ladies was immaculate). The staff and locals made us feel welcome. Highly recommend this pub.

so happy this pub is open again as its on our cycle route from Eastcote to Ruislip Manor, took fold up bikes in yesterday, the seating in side is cosy, we opted to seat outside under a shelter that has a tv for sports. staff very welcoming, Drinks and food are good value.They have a lunch menu with is limited and an evening menu, large portion size... i didnt need a pudding but i the home made apple crumble was yummy,I will be back :)

I am pleased this has reopened finally giving the nearby area a decent local with a real variety. And a proper beer garden!!Was pleased from the offset popping down on fathers day we had the Sunday lunch. We were all impressed it was cooked perfectly, fair price and generous portions.I have since been down for a few football matches on a weekend and always seems to be a really good crowd and all preferences catered for where possible. I have also had the odd burger and again very tasty and generous portion. Saturday nights are a good laugh aswell have seen a few decent singers down here with my girlfriend and mates which we've all enjoyed.All staff friendly, on the ball and take no crap. Keep up great management Black Bull team!

I have grown up with this pub and I'm so glad it re-opened. I have eaten there quite a few times and the food is Great the bar staff are very friendly and welcoming.It shows lots of sport which in this day and age you need in the pub to help them survive. +Great Chef which they definitely have!I loved the fact I could keep up with the golf and my partner could see the footie results whilst having our drinks and waiting for our dinners to arrive.They also have karoke and live bands which is great bringing Ruislip back life!Sunday lunch definitely worth a visit I might actually head back there this sunday Mmmmmm...

"The Bull" has been brought back to life from what was a sorry looking building to a lively local. When it first re-opened, the old locals thought they would get away with the same drug taking and late night antics that it was known for but the landlady quickly knocked this on the head and has left a nice place that families can enjoy. Admittedly, it does get rowdy when showing football but what pub doesnt?Can't comment on the food but i like that there is a small selection of fresh food rather than an 'extensive' list of frozen stuff ready to chuck in the microwave like most pubs in the area.I was really suprised at nice friendly atmosphere there now and real mix of ages that go to enjoy their evening. The music at the weekends is pretty cheesey but all part of the fun.

oh dear, this pub had been shut for over 2 years so you can guess the community was happy that this pub was due to be brought back to life, me included! I was looking forward to having this pub as my local. I was surprised that the landlord did not do a advert of the opening date in our area (I live only a few streets away and it was all word of mouth when it would reopen) but open it did, I waited for a month for it to settle down and then decided to give it a go, ,my other half and I went down on a glorious sunny Sunday full of expectation of a new pub, great food and a lovely atmosphere, as soon as we walked in we were gobsmacked, we had middle aged men shouting and swearing at the TV,s in front of a family (maybe the family was the landlords and they think that was ok?) so we took our drinks and went outside grabbing a 'extensive menu' as we went. they make such a big thing of 'Great Food' I thought we would be in for a teat! well the menu was a bit of A4 laminated with a grand choice of 4 dishes, diabolical! the choice was 3 roasts and a vegetarian dish of ricotta pie (how enterprising) as it was a piping hot day, funnily enough we did not fancy roast! so after a couple of drinks we left in huge disappointment. I noticed that other families were doing the same as us, retreating to the gardens due to the swearing blokes in the bar, taking A4 menus and then looking at the lack of choice, leaving for another venue. The reason we left it a month was to give it the chance to offer more food than it did, sadly even though it says Great food everywhere, It does not mean a variety of dishes, only wish that they would shut this place down again and get a better landlord in that will offer a nice family friendly atmosphere with a selection of food printed on a 'Normal menu' go to this place if you think it is acceptable to eat in an environment of shouting, swearing men and am prepared to put up with the TV,s bearing out at 200 decibels, but I thought you could go to other places like that in the near vicinity, I had high hopes for this place when it was due to open but sadly I have to give it a red card and will not be returning.
