We had the best night celebrating our daughter’s 18th Birthday. Fabulous staff who were amazing throughout the evening. The food was really tasty and so much to choose from. The service could not be faulted and the atmosphere in the pub was so warm and friendly. Big shoutout to the two bar persons who could not of been more accommodating. The balloons were a lovely touch- thankyou.

My friend has already posted her review but I have decided I would write one also as the Food was delicious. Staying in the barns located outside the village we decided to book here Sunday 25th August. Lovely interior nice & modern. One of if not the best Sunday lunches I’ve had. If you’re ever in this lovely area this is a must visit!

Since moving to the village in November I have frequented the pub multiple times, sometimes for food and sometimes for drinks and I can say with absolute certainty it is one of if not the nicest pubs I’ve been too in a long time. The food is incredible, everything on the menu is always cooked brilliantly and presented beautifully and there is lots of choice - the bar staff are always happy, welcoming and chatty and the atmosphere is amazing. The beer garden is also a credit to the pub, lots of space, pretty setting & lovely in the sun! Can’t recommend the black bull & it’s food enough!

Just had Sunday lunch here. The meat was tender and well cooked. All the trimmings were delicious. I wouldn’t usually have sugar snap peas but they worked fine as part of the mixed veg. The cauliflower cheese was great. Only criticism, the meat and roast potato portion was quite small. We ordered an extra serving of roasties. The staff team was pleasant and helpful. We arrived very early for our table but they let us order earlier even though every table was booked. We would happily go back.

Continued… Two gravy boats of hot gravy was brought to our table which warmed and softened the food. We were treating our family so it was really disappointing that there was no treat and it cost us upwards of £170!! We all come from West Yorkshire were the food is always well cooked and plenty of it! I guess we have been spoilt! Ps… my husband used the men’s toilet and after washing his hands, used the dryer in which you have to place your hands down into the machine. He said it was so dirty inside he had to wash his hands again! On a positive note ~ the pub was incredibly busy, so it is obviously a popular place to dine! We obviously caught them on an off day!

I live local and had the Sunday roast here before (lovely) but in three occasions phoning to book at table, phone goes unanswered and no one calls back until leaving an arsy message that is. Went last Thursday and what a shambles. The food was vile, place was understaffed and the bar / wait staff was over worked. People queuing at bar just to order food or to inform staff of their arrival. Glasses dirty. Tables dirty. People screaming at football match. Place needs a complete revamp is it a sports bar or a restaurant … or an extension like the carps at fiskerton to separate the two, which is stunning and would recommend.

The landlady (or front of house) was very friendly, with a delightful bubbly personality and efficient too at taking our order and checking we had drinks etc. We all really enjoyed our meals but from my point of view, I have to single out the "Poke" bowl as being superb! A lovely range of different items, served with rice with a choice of different options to choose (I had the King prawn with chilli and ginger) The puddings sounded wonderful but alas we were too full! Would definitely visit again!

Booked a few days ago for three Adults and my 18 Month Old Grand Daughter. Good job i did, otherwise i would have missed this real treat. Staff on our visit- spot on. The whole experience was very good, almost a pity that we could not have booked nearer to Christmas when i am sure it will be even more magical. The Service was great. The Food , Brilliant, quality first class. The Blade of beef, a must have again if available. Beautifully cooked to perfection, and so flavoursome, i could have eaten it three times over. The unusual combination of Bubble & Squeak with Red Cabbage works very well. Nothing left on our plates. The crispy shreds of ??? possibly parsnips were also good and unusual. The whole availability of Specials, starters and Main menus would provide for everyone`s tastes. We all enjoyed the short time we spent today, and from the brief time in the area, we very much like Welton. We live quite some distance away in Mablethorpe, but will return when we can to sample more Timothy Taylor Landlord once more. Thanks to Rebecca Walton for her attention to us.

We booked to have a meal for a large group of us celebrating a big birthday as we were staying locally (there were 11 of us in total including 4 kids) Our waitress was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. We were a tad worried when she said there was no Fish & Chips (gutted as I was going to have that!!) nor mash!! We proceeded to make our orders and looked forward to tucking in to our feast!! We needn’t have worried…very generous starter portions were presented (we’d highly recommend the salt & pepper chicken strips or the mushrooms on toast). We all polished them off and anticipated our mains. YUM!! The steak was done to perfection, the fries were excellent and there was plenty of homemade tartar sauce for our scampi!! We had such a lovely meal, we’ve booked up for lunch on our check-out day. Thank you

This is a handy location for us being close to Lincoln and on our way back home. We have eaten here a couple of times. The first was fabulous back in the summer of 2021 when there were still restrictions due to covid and we were happy to be able to eat outside. We had tried again a few months ago but found it closed with no notice to explain why. This had put us off and we didn’t try again until today. I enjoyed my avocado and poached egg on flatbread with hollandaise sauce, although I struggled to cut through the bread with the knife provided. My 90-year-old mum had the same and eventually had to admit defeat and just ate the topping. A great shame as it was tasty. I suspect the avocado wasn’t fresh but the eggs were poached to perfection and the sauce was good. My husband had scampi and chips and was very disappointed. The chips were overcooked and almost impossible to eat and the scampi was similar. It is a shame because it has such good potential. I hope it improves again.

We had lunch at this pretty country pub yesterday. Unfortunately the fish delivery was late, so we couldn’t have fish and chips for lunch. Instead we chose pie (with chips and mushy peas), panini (with chips and salad), and avocado on toast with poached eggs, served with salad. We enjoyed our meal choices but thought that the menu was rather limited. There is a pretty outside garden which would be lovely on a summer day, and there is a good sized car park. In summary, a nice country pub serving decent food.

We have eaten here twice in the last two months. First time was good, with good pub food and service. However on our second visit we were massively disappointed. The worst part was that they served my 72 year old mum undercooked chicken, it was still pink and raw in the middle of the breast. When we flagged it, they apologised and got my mum a fresh, properly cooked meal. This meant we’d all finished way before my mum which is always annoying but we let it go. They offered us free desserts by way of apology but when we got the bill they only gave us one dessert, not all four, for free. When we questioned it we were told WE had ALL misunderstood!!! And they stuck to just the one dessert free. As it was meant to be a nice evening out when my mum had come to visit we didn’t push it but I feel compelled to review it here to warn others as we just didn’t feel they took it seriously enough, given that undercooked chicken can give you salmonella, E. coli and other awful, potentially lethal illnesses! The chef apparently claimed he checked the temperature of it with a probe but clearly didn’t, or didn’t do it properly, so it would be good to hear they’re improving their food safety standards as who knows what else they are doing/not doing?!The service was friendly but incredibly slow and we had to chase for every service needed which was also disappointing.Such a shame that a lovely pub in a great village treats its locals this way, don’t think we’ll be visiting again and will be warning everyone we know in the village.

Reading previous reviews we must be just unlucky. We haven't visited the pub for some 18 months and were surprised how tired it was looking,. However it was full and busy and our table reserved for the meal we booked. No mats on the sticky tables, dirty glasses and the sea bass was off. The young waitress was excellent as we didn't wish to make any fuss and an alternative meal was ordered and was tasty. It was a busy Friday night and obviously locals were in enjoying their start to the weekend. However we will not be returning. Old style inn with no pandering to being modernised. Midway down a cobbled hill road, Cartway, with a lot of history going back to the 16th century, between High town and Low town and worth the diversion, but definitely not wheel chair friendly. Very popular with locals and visitors alike. Small inside with two back to back bars and a tiny seating and games area, darts and dominoes provided, no juke box but there is background music being played. I suspect the darts are for local tournaments as there would be no room for the three tables in there at the same time that any match may be on. Family and pet friendly with a small outside patio area overlooking the river.. A great selection of real ales. Bar food was excellent, We visited around lunchtime. Restaurant food isn't why you come here. There is a very tasty selection of homemade scotch eggs with such as chilli and garlic flavours or black pudding for example, plus homemade pork pies and the ubiquitous cheese/ham/onion/tomato cobs, made to order. Has a music night on Fridays.

When we tspoke to him told him of the problem he was not very helpful. We found him patronising and definitely didn't listen to what we had to say. . Having visited this pub for food several times both with family and friends I have found the food to either really good, and on the rare occasion only to be fair, but on this occasion the worst yet and I certainly will never recommend this pub to friends and family again after the way the manager spoke us today .

We visited without booking and got a Sunday roast towards the end of their serving times, we shared a deep fried Brie, the main was delicious meat and what seemed like freshly cooked vegetables and shared a mince pie cheesecake which was also home made. My meal was washed down with a couple of pints of real ale. The table was clean and spacious. All in all it was a cracking pub meal for for a reasonable price.

The best place in the world for quizzes (Tuesday nights and BAFTA nominated - no not really). That's if you can get past Derek's cheekiness, which is extremely cheeky despite occasional rowdiness from the elders. His catchphrases will no doubt go down in history as some of the greatest. Life's biggest travesty was answered last week as the rollover jackpot was finally won at a whopping 145 pouuuuuuuuunds (imagine this in Derek's velvety tones and you're onto a winner!) 10/10, great experience. Avoid a gentleman with a blonde slick back moheecan and grey trench coat though - he likes to declare his answers, especially during the dreaded wipeout round. Good chips and cheese too.

We just dropped on for a quick bite to eat. Considering it was a Saturday afternoon I thought that the place was really busy. Even though we were told that there may be a delay in our food being served I thought that we got it pretty quick. The food was fine no complaints at all. Nice comfortable seating good variety of ales. A wide range of meals to choose from.

I'll start from the beginning, booked for Sunday lunch with family. On arrival a table in the corner was pointed at by what I assume was the landlord (who having looked at me when I entered the premises the disappeared to the other side of the bar!) a very polite tho incredibly under trained (didn't know what was lager and what was bitter) waitress came to take our drinks order. We had to ask for menus when she returned with our drinks. The food was incredibly slow coming out we waited the best part of an hour! The land lady looked at our tables empty glasses about 3 times and eventually someone came to ask if we'd like some more drinks. The food was ok, but basic and I'm glad it was not anymore expensive than it was. The waitresses were very polite but I have never seen ruder, more unprofessional landlords than the two that have this place. They propped up the bar and occasionally cleared a table wasn't keen on the fact that they were drinking alcohol whilst serving etc. And to cap it off not even a thank you nor goodbye as we paid the bill and left! NEVER going back I've had better service in McDonald's!

Went there with a group of 8 - 5 adults, 3 children for my mums birthday. Not sure what to expect as only just moved to this area. Pub was friendly and a table had been set for 8 with decorations as asked for by us for the birthday girl. Drinks orders were taken at table so no going up to the bar. Only fault was the fizzy drinks were not fizzy but that was sorted out promtly so didn't mar the night. Starters came out and were delicious, a variety was chosen. Prawn cocktail was fresh and tasty, salad not limp, others had garlic bread, mozzarella sticks and they said they were nice. Main course most of us had the chicken dishes, 2 of us had the Hunters chicken, the chicken was moist and didn't taste like supermarket chicken, the chips were delicious and one of the best Hunters Chicken I have had in a long time - its one of my favourite choices on a restaurant menu and I have had a few Hunters chicken. The others had chicken burger (a piece of chicken in a brioche bun, salad) and that was enjoyed, The steak was pronounced nice and the Scampi was well received. Only a few had dessert, Chocolate brownies and they said it was lovely. A well deserved thumbs up for this place and its food. They were extremely busy that night with two large parties and others and managed to provide us with a great night. The staff brought out a cake that I supplied and we all sang happy birthday. We didn't feel rushed either. Some places you go to they want the table for other guests but not here. A place I would definitely come back to in the near future. Good value for money as well.

We come to this pub on a regular basis for their steak night (Wednesday). It's great value and really good food with good service. Usually the steaks are cooked to perfection but on our last visit one of them was slightly overcooked. The staff were absolutely perfect in the way they handled us and brought us a new steak straightaway. You can add sauces and upgrade to sweet potato fries for extra money too.The drinks are also great value here 10/10 outstanding service and food.

Gone to this pub for many years for meals , always been good pub food , recently we've been a couple of times and food is microwaved , and it's rubbish . The place looks like it's run by young ones , while the landlord and lady sit drinking at the bar !!! . My meat looked and tasted like dog food , the vegetables were swimming in water and over cooked . We made a complaint , but was only offered a dessert free !! This should have been the meal for free , won't be returning after Given the benefit of the doubt twice

Too many dogs here. Personally I don't like dogs around food. I only had coffee and cake which was very unappetising but my friend had the breakfast which he said was great. Why can't cake be fresh and moist? The staff work hard.

The old faithful Costa. It is the universal meeting spot for anyone coming from outside of Gainsborough! Cheap parking, lovely outside seating area and good reliable drinks. The upstairs is particularly beautiful with its full length glass walls with a view over the fountains and the old marshalls yard buildings. Top tip.... if you're looking for a good spot to watch the reindeer being turned on at Xmas time, get upstairs early as you get a perfect cosy spot to watch the festivities

Two of us ordered steaks. Sirloin wasn't available so we settled for rump. Admittedly we asked for it well done, however I have never had meat as tough. It was so tough we could barely cut it let alone chew it and we left it. Absolutely dreadful! Informed a staff member who said she'd pass it on. So won't be returning
