Quiet little pub with a good selection of real ales. Dog friendly and well worth walking up the steep Cartway to get here!

Great little pub for an oldy worldy feel and a lovely atmosphere. Staff are lovely, beer is good, they don't do food and it's more of an adult pub to relax rather than a family (child) pub, worth a visit to help you get up the very steep but fairly short hill to town

Visited pub previously and the staff seemed miserable, however we put that down to us dropping in late at night. Tonight’s visit in mid evening started pleasantly with a good pint, good atmosphere due to the friends we introduced to the area. The staff then subsequently asked us to keep the laughter down. After all that this country has endured and fortunately the fact that mental health is at the fore, i personally think that laughter is good for the soul and to be asked to keep the laughter down is a bad call, after all it was a one off joke to cause the noise, not a barrage of look at me attention seeking behaviour. Black boy - good ale, lovely venue, staff assessment required.

Good choice of real ale but Pepsi was flat. When I mentioned it, barmaid said that’s how it comes from the pump! Maybe offer a different drink would have been appropriate.

Half way down the Cartway is The Black Boy. It has a traditional appearance from the outside but is a little more modern inside. A good choice of beers, and the staff were friendly too.

Myself & my fiance were going to stay for the Friday night (23/08/19) and ended up not leaving until Monday morning. What a lovely place and The Black Boy Inn is most definitely worth dropping by for a lovely drink! The staff are lovely and we had such a great laugh. The customers were lovely too and the place had a fantastic layed back atmosphere, a great oldy worldy pub. It is not a food place but they do have various snacks at the bar. The town itself is worth a stay as it is so charming. If carling did towns with the most pubs. . .this would be it lol :) would recommend a visit or stay, plenty of places to eat & drink and be merry and if you do go, I would pop by The Black Boy Inn. . .enjoy :)

Just around the corner from where we were staying, this proved the perfect relaxing spot fro our two evenings in Bridgnorth - we even enjoyed a quiz night on our 2nd evening there! Drinks were reasonably priced, with enough selection of ales to please the lads! Generally a "home from home" feel, with its warming real coal fire!

Located halfway up (or down) the seriously steep and historic Cartway is the equally historic The Black Boy, named after a nickname of King Charles II. This wonderful pub had a roaring fire and a fine selection of ales, including Ruby Porter from the Gorgeous Beer Co (near Telford), Enville's Ginger Gothic, and Olde Trip (originally Hardy & Hansons, now apparently brewed by Greene King). All of these were excellent and fairly priced. The ambience was great, with friendly banter from knowledgeable barmaid Tracy. We could have spent all afternoon in this place, but it was part of a pub tour so we had to move on!

This pub has great beers and lovely staff but with that comes an old pub which has had its guts ripped out, leaving it with little character. Then they have a policy of allowing customers to smoke vaper at the bar!!!@ It also is dog friendly which is great but allowing them to sit on seats!!! . It may be ok for some but definitely not for me.

The building looks like it has seen some history, great character, very friendly, and excellent range of great beers. You could easily lose several hours in here. We stopped for lunch, which is only bar food but again was good, Scotch egg was probably from Beamans the local butcher who rightly rules Bridgnorth, the ham in the roll again was probably Beamans, one small point, the only option on rolls was white bread,

Let's get this out of the way first - Don't come here if you expect a meal, a table to yourself or even carpet on the floor. However, DO come here if you wish to mingle with the locals (you'll be in a conversation before your head has settled), a good selection of well maintained beers (and cider) a great environment that you just wouldn't find in a chain brand bar. The list goes on, give it a go - you may like it.

This is what used to be called "a proper drinker's pub"Very basic food on offer - sandwiches, pickled eggs, that kind of thing - but the beer selection is excellent.Well kept beer, served by knowledgeable and friendly bar staff who seem to care about what they are selling and want you to have a great pint.Wonderful location, just off Cartway. Sitting outside on the (few) benches on a sunny day is a real glimpse into another, lost, England. You could easily imagine Victorian carts and drays struggling past.Characterful, well kept historic pub with great beer.Thoroughly recommended

This place was recommended to us but we were completely disappointed. We asked for food and were told by a man with various piercings in his face that he only had 3 ham cobs and sausage rolls etc. we decided this would be enough and paid £2.00. Each for dry cobs with a thin layer of ham. With hindsight we wondered why he got them from a carrier bag behind the bar.One of our party thought the bread was too dry and decided to just eat the meat. This is when we found the mould on the sandwich. This was particularly upsetting for the one member of the party who had just eaten his. This is not acceptable in the catering industry and I wish now we had reported this to the relevant body. As it was the barman just refunded us for the 3 cobs and quietly mumbled an apology.Surely these people have to be educated to certain standards of hygiene If you just want real ale then maybe risk it but don't ask for food!

I came across the Black Boy Inn when visiting the town on the Severn Valley Railway. You don't come here for the food - all I could buy was a ham cob - but for the beer. One bar had about 8 varieties of real ale and ciders & I suspect that the other side had a similar number. The staff were very frendly and knowledgeable. You could sample a beer for free. The best thing was the price. I paid £2.85 for a pint of porter which is unheard of in the south-east.I did visit during the Easter Real ale festival but i imagine its as good at other times of the year. Well recommended.
