We took our friends out for a birthday celebration and had a delightful evening. The service was attentive but not pushy. The takeaway side was very busy, always a good sign. The food was absolutely beautiful, possible the best of its kind I've ever tasted. The portions were so large we were able to eat the leftovers for lunch next day! We're looking forward to coming again the next time we stay in Wisbech. Thank you.

Went in recommendation from a friend and glad we did. We had the Sunday bbq and was a great choice of food. We had beef ribs, steak, half a roasted chicken and a chicken breast with mozzarella cheese. All came with a choice of sides and salad. The meals were excellent and everything was fresh and cooked beautifully. The prices were very good and the meals came presented in wooden boards very in keeping with the theme. My mum and her friend are not easily pleased and already planning their next visit. Staff were friendly and attentive and a good choice of drinks also offered. Excellent place and we will visit again when next visiting my parents. You will not go wrong highly recommended. Nice you’ve the manager came around speaking to the guests and checking everything was in order.

We’re just driving away and I literally couldn’t wait any longer to write this review! We wanted somewhere half way between the caravan site we were staying at and my mother in laws for somewhere to eat for my sons 8th birthday. We found this place on trip advisor and I’m so glad we did. The food was great and really good value, the atmosphere was really really relaxed and the staff so friendly (even if she did say we were from Yorkshire and not lancashire-haha!). We were made to feel totally at home and food arrived in a good time. We all had something different and each one was thoroughly enjoyed. We ordered desserts which were huge and again good value for money. Half way through our desserts one of the locals from the bar came in asking for the birthday boy. The lights went out and he started singing happy birthday to my son and the staff brought him a cupcake with lollipops and a candle in. My son was absolutely over the moon and beaming from ear to ear. It was such a lovely touch and has really made his day. The lovely lady in charge of the restaurant also gave my youngest a couple of lolly’s so he wasn’t left out. A huge Thankyou to the staff and everyone. We will definitely return when we are back in the area and I would really recommend here if you want a chilled out and family friendly place. I wish this was my local!

Stopped in just for a meal, so there weren't many people in the place, but for all that it still had a nice atmosphere. The landlord was a really pleasant geezer, and the beer was just right - obviously kept well and at exactly the right temperature. (How many meals are ruined by ice-cold Bitter. Stop it, we're not Americans!) There was a goodly selection on the menu, and I opted for one of my favourites, a gammon steak. The plate was massive, and the steak just about covered it, with just about enough room left for PROPER chips, a fresh cackleberry, nice big thick chunk if pineapple, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, onion rings and a salad garnish which, if I'd had any sense I would have asked them not to bother with. That's a personal preference, as if I'm going to eat a ton of fried stuff, a pile of rabbit food, no matter how generous, is a bit daft. However, everything was exceedingly well cooked, exceedingly well presented, lovely and hot, and 100% spot on. If you can ask for more than that, I'd love to know what. It was so filling that I couldn't manage a pudding, which is both a good thing and a minor tragedy. I have to go to Wisbech fairly regularly, and I now know exactly where I'm going to get my meals. In a taxi, as well, because not everywhere gets a pint of Bitter right. Right?

We had lunch here on Thursday 12th of March and found it most enjoyable. The seating area in both bar and restaurant is spacious and the overall décor is one of cosiness and comfort. The waitress service was very good and the meal was excellent and good value. There is a main menu, a chef's choice and a carvery. The dessert menu Is also very good and both the main course and afters are well presented with very generous amounts. This restaurant/bar is managed by the same people that run ''The West End'' in Wisbech and they apply the same high quality standards to their food and service that exists at ''The West End''. Overall worth a visit and great for just a drink also as they stock a good beer selection.

First time at the black bear.... And all in all I found it to be a bit of a disappointment.... Just want to point out before I start that I couldn't fault the service. We ordered drinks and they came promptly. The carvery is where my disappointment spurred from. We were greeted by a pleasant young fella who was polite, well mannered made sure he greeted each one of us individually with a smile... He probably serves 100 people on a Sunday yet still managed to smile and make an effort (makes a massive difference) and it's greatly appreciated rather than the normal miserable face you tend to see at most places saying "beef, pork or turkey" so straight away I along with the rest of my family felt welcomed and felt assured we had made a good choice...We sat down and within 5 minutes 4 of the 6 of us had made remarks on how dry the meat was... I had beef, it was edible but noticeably dry. The other 2 had had gammon and said it was perfect.. The parsnips were perfect along with the peas, carrots, mashed potato and gravy... The rest of vegetables were questionable The leeks were a bit gritty... The broccoli was too hard and roast potatoes just weren't great... We had been to their partner restaurant the west end just a few weeks before and they had ticked all the boxes - an absolutely fantastic visit so don't know what's being done different but it's definitely noticeable.However.... As much as I can lay into the dry meat and roast potatoes... I can sing my praises for the cheesecake I had... White chocolate and baileys and was literally one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had... Kudos to who ever is making that. Everyone on the table praised the desserts. We enjoyed our visit none the less and the service made a massive difference it's just such a shame they haven't got a few of the main components right on the carvery.

Have a change of chef before you loose more customers as customers at the next table we're complaining about the chips.

Decided to go for Sunday Lunch and booked over the phone in the morning. You can book by e-mail via their website if you're booking days in advance. The restaurant is situated in a separate room off the bar, though it does have its own entrance as well. The restaurant was virtually full - a good sign. Table had a tablecloth which matched the upholstery of the comfortable chairs.Ordered drinks at the table, after only a small delay, and they duly arrived shortly afterwards. Service was good, and we were not hurried at all; some might describe it as slightly slow but that is how it should be for an enjoyable, unhurried lunch. For Sunday Lunch they do not serve starters and only the carvery is available (normally you can have a starter and a choice of specials). In our case there was beef, pork or gammon. The beef was well done whereas I would have preferred it more rare; however, it was tasty. The Gammon was very nice indeed. The vegetables were very nicely cooked and not soggy - there was a fair selection including roast and mashed potatoes, roast parsnips, peas, cauliflower cheese and carrots. There was a good choice of desserts; I had the toffee ice cream sundae and my daughter had a chocolate cheesecake. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be going back often in the future. The only minus comments are that the room does not have much character and it was very warm. The owner/manager was attentive and were happy to wrap up our grandson's unfinished lunch so he could eat it later.Recommended for a good traditional pub Sunday lunch

If you want good pub grub then The food in this place is better than anywhere in the local area! A month ago my wife and I decided to try the food after the pub changing hands. We had the burgers 🍔 and the dirty fries 🍟 we have been residents of Coates village for 30 years and both grew up in Whittlesey. What you get here is the only thing within 40 miles that would rival anything decent burger and fries from London (I mean, American style)! I’ve severed some hi end establishments over my time with meat as I was a butchery manager that worked for jimmy Doherty (Jamie Oliver’s mate) for a number of years and I’m ecstatic that I have this 200m up the road! The service was spot too!! Hats off too chef at the vine!! This guy know what he is doing 🎩👍🍔🍟

Went with family and friends. Sunday roast was decent, lovely lamb, beef and chicken. Massive Yorkshire’s with loads of gravy with more offered. Scent roast potatoes which is always good at a pub and decent fresh cooked veg. Even the Brussels sprouts were good which was excellent. Staff generally very friendly, manageress seemed faulty stern but clearly runs a tight ship. Prices competitive. Difference between this and 5 stars is nothing to do with food and service. Down to fact that if you have a baby or toddler the changing facilities are less than basic! Something they really could do with sorting.
