We ate dinner here whilst staying in a nearby guesthouse. Food was good with a good selection on the menu. It was very busy probably because there isn't a lot of options in the immediate area and the service was average, Prices were very reasonable in comparison to other places we had visited on our trip.

A place like this is like a black sheep in a country known for their hospitality, humility and generosity. The owner/ in- charge was too rude and in humane in dealing with his guests. He kept the doors closed to a group of 16, despite being informed about the late arrival( pre-paid booking). A lady in her 70's drove us all the way to her B&B while we were checking for the accomodation in the mid-night. We were Indians visiting Scotland for a road trip. This was an awful experience. Local administration should take measures to set right their attitude and behaviour or else cancel their permit. Awaiting refund too......

As a resident of Scotland for the last 21 years, both my husband and me have visited different parts of Scotland with friends and family. Since the NC 500 route was actively promoted, I have seen a lot of interest amongst our friends, both in England and abroad, to visit Scotland. We had a great time for the initial 4 days and were shocked when our pre booked (paid) reservation was not honored by the Poolewe hotel on the 25th of June 2024, which left 16 of us stranded at 11 pm. We had taken measures to let them know about our delayed arrival and yet they didn’t hesitate leaving 5 families with kids, out in the dark. The manager, Garry, had shut the doors of the hotel and refused to pick up his phone or open his door when an employee of the hotel tried to contact him, whilst trying to help us. The employee, then, also refused to allow us to use the restroom, saying he couldn’t allow it. It is common courtesy to help people at that time of night and we felt the behaviour was absolutely shocking and inhumane! I can understand if this happened in any other country , but in Scotland, after having lived here for so long, it was unbelievable. The minimum any hotel would do, usually, is to contact the large party of 16 , to see if they were still coming to check in , when we hadn’t arrived by their supposed last check in time of 10 pm. We would have left Poolewe attributing this utter disregard to hotel guests as a reflection of the people in this part of Scotland! However, after multiple phone calls , a lovely Good Samaritan took us into her home and helped us get in from the cold night. She also gave us a hot breakfast to help us get on our way the next morning. I would strongly suggest to anyone who books this hotel to be aware of their very strict policy of no entry or check in after 10 pm. We have contacted booking.com so they can take the necessary action against the concerned. And I hope this doesn’t reflect on the rest of the people in this lovely little village in Scotland that are kind and open hearted to tourists.

This restaurant is essentially a bar serving food and, if our fish and chips were anything to go by, in very generous portions. The atmosphere was lively with plenty of locals around as well as visitors. The staff were friendly and wasted no time in serving our meal. It’s not a place which you would be likely for a visitor to be passing on a regular basis but is worth a visit if you are nearby.

We were booked to stay at this hotel and had our evening meal there, serving fairly typical bar food which was OK but nothing special. We opted for beer battered haddock, chips and peas which were promptly served, good sized portios and very hot. Chips were particularly good - chunky and crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. The peas had a slightly odd salty-water after-taste. Good dessert selection. I opted for the mango mousse which wasn't exactly the texture of a mousse, but pleasant to eat with the definite flavour of mango.

Listed as a traditional highland hotel which it certainly isn't. In 50-plus years I have never come across a traditional highland hotel that is closed to travellers and locals and won't even allow you to have a quick pint. It's residents only folks and that is strictly enforced.

Booked in here for last night of our holiday, rooms in annex are a little tired but dog friendly so do the job. Staff are friendly and helpful. Dinner was reasonable if not memorable, portion size was large but variety was lacking. Probably priced fairly for the current climate. Breakfast was again alright but lacked a few bits and bobs. Dogs allowed in for breakfast,so that was a bonus. Great views over to Inverewe gardens .

We popped along here from the local campsite we were staying at for some drinks. Reasonably priced and friendly atmosphere. Pool table was an added bonus which we were able to play. Ross and Julia behind the bar were professional but very friendly and chatty. We had such a laugh with them and were genuinely saddened to say goodbye when it was time to go. We visited for lunch and there was only 2 other tables in, both of whom had been served. It took almost 20 minutes before our order was taken and I had to go and help myself to a menu as there was never one brought to us. We had 3 simple lunches - soup and two sandwiches. The food, when if finally arrived was good but it took 40 minutes to bring it out, which seemed ridiculously long considering there was nobody else to serve. When I went to pay my bill at the bar, there was nobody there and after waiting for 5 minutes, I had to go and knock on the kitchen door to get some service.

Was disappointed not to be able to eat in, but understandably residents are priority and the owner explained they can arrive anytime and always want to eat, so a limited menu for takeaway was available. This wasn't ideal and I might normally have scored lower for this, but everyone was so personable I was alright with it. All the staff were so polite and helpful. We ate here both nights of our stay in Poolewe and made a good dent on the options on the takeaway menu between us. It is hard to say which option was best as they were all really good. Even the chips which my hubby is usually disappointed with if frozen (they were, but it was takeaway so more acceptable and also pretty decent).

You need to book, but it is not easy to get through. An average pub menu. Dog friendly including the restaurant. We ordered lamb burgers with spicy sausage and sweet filling. It was a bit dry and in my view should be minted. There were too many large chips, but they were good. The chocolate moose and Cranachan sweets were fine. I do however object to imitation Cranachan sold as the real thing. Quite pricy for pub grub, but it must be expensive to source food and staff. Look further afield unless you are tired of driving.

Had a couple of drinks whilst perusing the menu and specials board. Every table was busy and we hadn't booked but were seated immediately. I thought there was quite a large choice on the menu plus additional specials on the board. There were several things I'd have liked! Son chose fish n chips (of which he's a connoisseur) and proclaimed it very good. I finally decided on the steak pie with puff pastry top and hubby had sausages and mash. The steak pie was sooo tender and the sausages and mash tasty too (we shared a little of each others). All plates were left clean! And a few more beers and coke were consumed too. We booked a room in the hotel where the restaurant is located. We realized the hotel bistro was really the only dining option in the area. Because I have a paralysis in the muscle of stomach I can only eat puréed food. Usually I pick a dish from the menu and the chef purée it as it is. There were several items in the menu that could have been easily puréed including the lentils soup of the day. When the waiter asked the chef if he could accommodate me, I could hear him shouting "no". There was no room of compromise....If you care about giving business to a place that cares about their customers, I strongly DON'T recommend this place. When we found out that it was 'A Curry Evening' we were less than happy plus the fact that we had specifially reserved a table in the Dining Room thinking of all the local produce that may have been 'on the menu'! Eventually we were seated in the Bistro which was thronged with Local bookings and was very, very busy with one waitress plus the Manager assisting having to deal with many people! We were very disappointed in the first place with the 'let down' of having been disappointed with the only option being the Bistro. We eventually had one course, the good old favourite 'Fish and Chips'! The fish was delicious but the pile of chips was too daunting to finish!!!! Burger appena sufficienti, locale semplice, forse troppo. Abbastanza rapidi ma personale gentile e cortese. Qualità del cibo nulla di speciale, nessuna ripercussione e tutto sommato, essendo forse l'unico in questa minuscola cittadina, un discreto compromesso.

On first view this place is a bit off-putting. The food was great though. Really good value and tasty, Cullen Skink, Venison Burgers and two kids meals and drinks came to about £35. This is cheap compared to a lot of places in the area. Clean, friendly and we'd go again!!

We had a meal in here, it was our local whilst we spent a week in Poolewe. They have a café with plastic tablecloths, and a nice looking restaurant all set up for dinner. However, when we ate in there, and also walked past subsequently, dinner was served in the café area, not the restaurant. We would have returned, but were disappointed to have been seated in the more ordinary café area, yet charged prices more reflective of a nice hotel restaurant. It put us off, so we didn't return.

We visited this pub / hotel several times during our week in the area and generally the food and drink was of a high standard. It is not what I'd call a bistro. There are 5 distinct parts for non-residents. In the middle there is a traditional bar with large TV screen, comfortable chairs and solid - fine for dining or drinking At the back, there is an area dominated by a pool table. When you come in the side door there is a functional café-style area, suited to dining. When you come in the front door there is a large, light and airy dining room, and to the left, a comfy snug for a quite drink. So rooms to suit everyone. The food is hearty pub grub with special offers on various days of the week, eg curry Thursday, fish Friday. The curry menu was just billed as chicken' or 'vegetable'. I had the chicken, which was mild to medium hotness. It came with a poppadum starter with tomato chutney and raita, though this was not advertised. The curry was tasty and substantial and came with rice, naan and mango chutney. Decent value at £10, or you could have it as a takeway for £7.Steak and ale pie was very good with plenty of juicy pieces of steak. There was quite a lot of mushroom in this too, though again not mentioned on the menu. There were two handpumps serving tasty An Teallach Brewery beer. £3.50 a pint. Mostly just one was in operation. When this ran out there was some very poor keg Belhaven Best, which the barman was reluctant to change when we complained it was off. This was the only compliant on our visits, so knocking off one star for that.

Seul restaurant le plus proche de notre B&B ouvert un dimanche soir. Ambiance chaleureuse, plutôt pub. Bonnes bières locales. Repas assez simple mais bon et fait sur place. Ne pas oublier d'aller se servir au bar.

We were travelling around the A832 from Loch Broom around in a circle (I think it's called The Western Ross route. We were in Poolewe around lunchtime and could only find this Hotel. The bar isn't welcoming, stark with a large TV showing Bargain Hunt. Now I love Tim Wannacott but not when I'm in a Scottish hotel bar. The TV takes over and totally deadens the atmosphere. Why not promote a local band in the background or even a local radio station turned down low. So I said to my husband 'do you think that's going to make a profit' and he said 'well, it didn't last time or the time before!' Says it all. The lunch took forever to arrive and the Cullen Skint was mediocre, nice but not nice enough for a hotel. I had one of those awful rolls with it that are half cooked and then finished off in the oven as needed, white and boring. Surely a hotel would have homemade bread.and a lovely granary roll would have been lovely or a chunk of homemade bread. Actually this was the worst meal we had the whole week we were there in the West Highlands.

If you want an atmospheric morning/afternoon/evening, visit the gun emplacement (turn left coming out of the Poolewe hotel car park, head for Cove and drive until you reach the end of the road). This was the last vestige of human habitation the sailors in the Arctic Convoys saw during WW2 as they sailed into oblivion to help our allies.... There is a memorial stone there, placed by Russian sailors for their lost friends & comrades and if that doesn't draw a tear then you must be a cold fish. The story goes, at the end of the war, they unscrewed the guns and tipped them into the sea. There is a local diver called Rotto, who could probably tell you more. My father dived with him in the 80's and discovered a few surprises. One day, my father was underwater and as he swam it got darker & darker. He switched on his torch and found brick work. He had swam into a tunnel! A huge tunnel by all accounts. He had a theory that the nearby isle of Gruinard had not been infected with anthrax to the extent it was uninhabitable, but was, in fact, an underwater submarine base.... My father passed away some 25 odd years ago, but this story always surfaces (no pun intended) when I go to Poolewe. It makes my stay more exciting as I love the idea of a secret base. And it always brings me back to the very day he surfaced and climbed into the dive support boat, Unicorn and told me what he'd seen...but that's a different lifetime. If you are taking photo's of the area, try monochrome (black & white) as the sky takes on a somber tone and it will immerse you in history and let you imagine what it was like for those boys sailing away all those years ago....Anyway, enjoy Poolewe.

Staff were so friendly and welcoming. The gentleman behind the bar kindly helped us get a table for dinner (in minimal time) despite the place being extremely busy. The food was extremely tasty (Give haggis a go - its sooo good)! and the beverages were plentiful and there was a good range for choice.

We all had Sunday lunch (£22), service was good and waitress was friendly. However the Roast dinner was lukewarm, the beef was far from tender and the Yorkshire pud was clearly reheated and very greasy. The bar wasn’t able to provide many of the beers/lagers on tap. Altogether a very disappointing visit. We were here last year and I still remember The Venison I had. Clearly new management/chef. Definitely give it a miss.

No food on offer other than crisps, ice cream and a meagre offering of cake, shocked as we were there for a 1pm show and had travelled over an hour thinking we would be fine for lunch at the theatre. Staff were fine, no hint of getting things done in a timely fashion and not much interaction with customers. Decor is depressing, such a big space makes it cold and echoey. Just no atmosphere whatsoever. Very disappointed and won't be back.
