The Birkhill Inn in Angus

Food is amazing especially the sticky toffee pudding

Very Nice Restaurant in a very nice Space We have not been for a while but expected it still to be a very good place for a Lunch we were not disappointed everyone we came into contact with with were very friendly and welcoming so off to a good start Our meals were both very good Gammon with everything and A very Meaty Lasagne we could not complain about anything except maybe there was a lot on your plate ! It’s a very restaurant too lovely and clean With as I said earlier very nice staff We will return and take some pictures of the food Plenty of space for parties as well We might consider a large group of us sometime but we would phone them first as they are always pretty busy Situated along the road from Camperdown Park or come up Gordie Bray or from Muirhead Plenty of room for parking too My only comment would be maybe a few more disabled spaces A Top Class Restaurant with a young enthusiastic team

Booked the Birkhill Inn for my dad's 85th Birthday. Can't thank the staff enough for making it such a wonderful day. He had a great time. I don't expect it was the easiest for staff - a party of 16 over 2 tables including elderly, disabled and the odd fussy customer. The serving staff were outstanding, so respectful and patient. Nothing was too much trouble. Everyone loved the food - steak pie is still the best! Shout out in particular to the young staff - your care and attention to our party was fantastic. Busy place with excellent service. Food looks much better than it tastes. We found it a bit bland. Nonetheless I will probably go again and get some more condiments next time.

50p charged for hot milk with my coffee!! I have never been charged for hot milk anywhere else in Scotland. Shame on you the management at Birkhill Inn. Last time I'll be having a coffee at Birkhill Inn

We had excellent food. Everyone has a good time and had time to relax after the meal without feeling we had to rush out. I would recommend the Birkhill Inn to others.

Got some albino chicken nuggets for my little boy, the burger we got wasn’t nice and the chicken gojouns were ok. Won’t be back staff didn’t seem to care that we hardly eat what was on the plate had to tell them I wasn’t paying for the dishes.

We were greeted by a woman whose face would have cracked if she’d smiled! Led to a table and left with menus. Gave order. Fish dry and hard batter! Chips dry and not hot. Steak pie chucked on plate with gravy which there was no taste to. Pie crust abysmal, hard! I believe people go there because they can’t be bothered cooking….certainly not for the service nor the food. The Birkie used to be amazing selling the best steak pie but obviously a change of chef over the years. Would not recommend and won’t be back.

I went with 2 friends for an evening meal and it was lovely ,plenty of it, the service was great and the staff were very helpful, we were impressed and will go again

A solid local gem the food is top notch pub grub portion sizes on point, we were a party of 30 and the food arrived swiftly and without disappointment. I had the prawns which were good although the salad was undressed and could have been better, for the main I had a burger which was ok nothing amazing but enjoyable. The place is always busy so the atmosphere is as you would expect.

We had a lovely meal, we went for an early Mothers Day meal the food was excellent it was served piping hot and the portions were great. The service was excellent, from the moment we arrived we were looked after so well, the 2 girls serving us Kayden and Sophie were lovely nothing was too much trouble for them lovely girls. Popped in for lunch. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Excellent service. All the food was very tasty with generous portions. The steak pie was so tasty as was the chicken with black pudding. Our little grandson had the macaroni cheese which he really enjoyed. We will definitely visit again.

Recently, dining out has become a rare indulgence, and we approach our lunch choices with care. Based on past experiences, The Birkhill Inn (affectionately known as ‘Birkie’) has been a reliable choice for us. For starters, I enjoyed the potato skins, while my husband opted for the mozzarella sticks—both dishes were quite good, although the portions were quite generous for an appetizer. I ended up taking half of my potato skin home. As for the main course, we both ordered the steak pie, which has typically been a favorite. However, this time, the pastry was undercooked. We managed by pushing the raw pastry aside, but the real disappointment was the jellied gravy—it lacked the usual flavor and fell short of our expectations. I regret not speaking up at the time, but I didn’t want to come across as a complainer in a busy restaurant. Unfortunately, it seems that prices have increased, and the decline in quality and standards is disheartening. We won’t be returning to The Birkhill Inn anytime soon. 😔

Man at end of the night was rude to my partner. Noone asked if we wanted cream or ice cream so when dessert came out with ice cream we asking for pouring cream instead. The boy said "you could have asked before we served it". We were there for my MIL birthday meal and it just added a really sad note to the end as it's all we could talk about.

I have always loved the Birkie but it’s just not as good. Menu changed and everything basically £14/15 per meal and a lot less choice. I had the veg Lasagne and it was extremely salty and I really couldn’t eat it. Won’t be back in hurry.

We visited this restaurant whilst staying at the nearby Piperdam after seeing positive reviews. We weren’t disappointed, food and service were excellent. Generous portions and sensibly priced as well. Steak pie was delicious as promised and I was assured by family that Mac &cheese was equally delicious. Will definitely return and feel confident in recommending this restaurant.

What a wonderful evening meal in a fantastically comfortable location. We are travelling round Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 from our home in Canada 🇨🇦 and were recommended to try the famous steak pie. It's a clean and friendly place. Visited by a lot of the people who live in the village. They are known for the steak pie. Not pictured but ordered on this round was the Ceasar salad (which looked delicious), the veg lasagna (which is a favorite), and the stuffed chicken which is a solid choice. I got the Mac n cheese and it was pretty good...better than I anticipated. Also pictured was a cheesecake. I heard good things.

Had dinner on on Saturday, food was good but service was terrible, waiting staff rude and seems eager to not do their job, one waitress was running around doing all the work and 3 waitresses standing doing absolutely nothing, I had to go and find a waitress to ask if she could come to the table to take a drink order, not exactly the best. Drinks took a while to come and just wasn’t impressed with the attitudes that the staff had. Probably won’t be back because of it, which is a shame because the food was really good.

Signature dish is steak pie. Meat and gravy fine, however the pastry was poor. Overdone and crispy on top, and underdone and sloppy underneath.

What a fantastic restaurant. Quality food, really delicious. And the service was second to none! We were served by Ross, we were a large group of 11 , including 4 young children and there were allergies to be aware of and Ross could not have been more helpful. In fact the whole team were just brilliant dealing with our lively table. Thanks so much everyone for making the 40th birthday meal just perfect. We'll definitely be back. :)

Came for a family meal on Saturday night. Nice environment and a friendly atmosphere. We sat in a busy part of the restaurant where a large family party was ordering at the same time as us, our meals came out promptly and all were good portions and served hot. The menu is just basic food but made and served fresh. Only criticism would be to update the menus as they are a little worn out.
