It is divided into two environments, a pub area for drinking beers and alcoholic beverages and the other area for enjoying food. The waitress is very attentive and is attentive to customers all day. They have dishes of the day that consist of a bowl of soup with a piece of bread and a complete sandwich or sandwich.

Attended for the Sunday carvery… a little disappointed. It used to be 10/10 The steak pie had no chunks of meat it was all “pulled pork” like consistency but pretty much 80% gravy , half the roast potatoes were burnt and had no potato in them, Yorkshire puddings burnt, cold, left out for a while very stodgy. One member of our group had macaroni cheese instead of the carvery and it was prepared badly due the huge amount of oils that was sitting on top of the dish from the cheese, it tasted like tinned macaroni with extra cheese on top again nothing like it used to be. Overheard another customer asking if the gravy was made from the juices from the meat and she was told it’s just gravy granules (it used to be made from meat juices and was lovely!) good points - waitress was very kind, polite and helpful, the gammon tasted nice, the puddings were good.. over all the standard has came down a lot

First time back to the Queen Street tavern since re-openig for lunch. Not a massive menu but I think this is the way to go as the quality of the food was first class. better quality than quantity. The waitress was very friendly and good at her job its obvious the restaurant is needing a bit of TLC but there is definitely improvement since my last visit. I wish the new landlord every success.

What a difference since last visit and change of management! We enjoyed a delicious two course lunch here. Ample portions (one small) served piping hot. We each had the very tasty steak pie with baby potatoes, carrots and peas followed by the now famous sticky toffee pudding (the sponge is so light!) which is served with either cream or icecream. Friendly waitress, great value and most important good food! Only downside is old fashioned decor - could do with refurbishment. That said, would certainly recommend ..... and our compliments to the chefs ‍‍

Read great reviews about the food here so we decided to try as they are dog friendly. We asked for a bowl of water for the pup and it arrived in a proper dog bowl. We ordered the haggis balls starter between us and a small homemade mince pie, beans and chips each. The haggis balls were nice enough although the batter was soft, but came with beautiful bread and a salad. The pie beans and chips were rather tasteless and dry I’m afraid and we were given a full portion rather than the small portion we asked for. An honest mistake. We had to ask for salt, pepper and vinegar and no napkins were supplied. Service was swift and the young lady serving us always had a smile. Second chances are always given so we will return for a meal at a later date.

What has happened here??? Just recently returned to Forfar after a few years away - and this place used to be a proper comfortable pub. Good atmosphere, freindly staff always welcoming.... But now! The atmosphere is terrible. The bar staff seemed to be more interested in chatting & laughing to each other than serving customers. I stood at the bar for several minutes until one woman who was sitting at the other end of the bar chatting away on her phone, raised her eyes, got up to eventually serve me my pint. I actually felt guilty that I had to interrupt her conversation to be served. After that she went back to her corner and resumed her phone call. I only drank half of my pint and left it and walked out. Not a friendly place anymore. Oh one other thing. The lager was warm and flat!

The young waitress asked how we enjoyed the meal when my husband was paying the bill, unfortunately replied ok,as the family were that disappointed we just wanted to leave .Sorry will not return. It would be nice if meat was handled properly with utensils and not man handled with blue gloves.Never seen meat cut in this way ever.Very poor example of a carvery .Poor display ,chips and some roast potatoes mixed together ,only one small helping of cauliflower cheese left ,carrots over cooked and broccoli the only other veggie ,hot water trays don’t work.Dessert told to stand at display and some one will serve you ,poor choice and very poor customer service. At least 2 of company didn’t have dessert.Really should have complained at time .Hope lessons are learned from this review.

The bar of the queens street tavern, has pulled in a lot of new customers , from one particular bar in the town, before the new management . This is due to the atmosphere and banter in the bar, created by the 'new' customers AND the bar staff. I thought that customer engagement and building report, would be a prime directive that would be encouraged , if not mandated by any management. Rather than listen to one prudish indivual, listen to the LOYAL customers . If Highladdie2018 does not like the Atmosphere and banter, no-one is forcing him/her to frequent the bar. One individual who may have an axe to grind with specific bar staff does not represent the majority of customers . To all - get yourself into the bar and have a great laugh with the customers and the staff!!!!

What a shame, we are regular customers to the buffet. Our first experience of eating out for Xmas dinner, at a place we go to regularly, and enjoy. What a disappointment, the starter, pate had been sitting out and was beginning to discolour, the main turkey dinner, was awful, looked like a microwave dinner with two new potatoes, one roast potato, and over boiled watery veg, a very fried Yorkshire pudding!!, with turkey and a grey mound of what was meant to be stuffing, it was soon bad. The husband's favourite, Trifle, he didn't eat it, even though he was hungry. What happened to the usual quality we get, the whole basis of us choosing our Xmas dinner there. Too upset to make a complaint and ruin the rest of the day and the waiting staff's day.

The steak pie was full of gristle, there was a slice of meat in a dark gravy with a very strange texture ... maybe from a tin? The curry was meant to be a Rogan josh and definitely was not ... bitter and dry chicken and in a gravy not a curry sauce... the macaroni cheese was all dried up with no sauce what so ever ...I could go on and on ... it was awful.... all of the desserts were bought in ... stodgy and unpleasant ..... the waitress asked is how our meal was and we did say it wasn’t good ... she apologised but what can they do it’s not them that’s cooking ... this place has really gone down hill ... very below standard ... defiantly shouldn’t be charging good money for this... will not be back

Have to add to the cacophony of complaints regarding the Xmas meal. We were first sitting at 1pm. The place was full and the atmosphere convivial. However, once the food started arriving the Xmas spirit left us. The pate was greying at the edges and the soup was watery and insipid. My “turkey” fell apart easily but had no taste whatsoever. The stuffing slice was over cooked and had the texture of rubber. Washed out veg and spongy Yorkshire pudding (with a turkey dinner??) completed the horror. My partners “steak” had clearly been cut from a pre cooked roast and hadn’t been anywhere near a griddle. Pasty and grey, it was swamped with gravy. My cheeseboard was a small side plate with clearly just unwrapped prices of insipid soap like cheese. The trifle was a slice of awfulness in presentation and tastelessness. We couldn’t wait to leave. Thankfully, I was cooking on Boxing Day for the extended family so our festive season wasn’t entirely ruined. But we won’t be back. Such a shame.

On to the sweet 2 X trifle a runny mess of jelly topped with a fatty glutinous substance ,2xcheesecake with whipped cream ,the cream was from a can and about the size of a pound coin but it was large enough to hide the cheesecake ,1 X cheese and biscuits ,a lump of rubbery processed cheese and 3 soft biscuits ,absolutely ridiculous .Was supposed to finish with tea coffee and mints which were never offered ,think they should change the name to Dick Turpins as at £38.95 a head this was daylight robbery .
