Booked a table, got there no table ready ! Asked to have a small portion of children’s portion having had gastric surgery, refused both. Ended up ordering a disgusting starter that was over cooked on outside and pink inside! Cut open then left whole starter untouched. Service shocking , attitude shocking, food 🤮. Stop barking orders from the kitchen and hiding behind the young waitress. Never be back, obviously a dying pub as only one other person in eating !

Played golf at Forfar, no food available in the clubhouse and needed something to eat. Found the Queen Street Tavern and what an excellent meal we had, good food, good staff and well priced. When staff take time to chat to you, you know you are in a good place. The fish and chips were more like “whale and chips”, large portions of very tasty fish. If in the area, we will be back.

A secret I’d love to keep from my friends and family! This eatery is absolutely amazing. From a warm welcome by the owner when you arrive to the lovely smiley waiting staff you’re already anticipating an enjoyable experience! The menu is really varied and there is something for everyone and bonus the children’s menu is simply a mini version of Mum and Dads !! Winner ! My grandaughter orders Macaroni cheese and if your expectations the usual overly boiled pasta loaded with chewy cheese prepare to be surprised , it was beautiful freshly cooked and just an absolute revelation! We asked for the meal to be served at 1 and it was spot on ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The new owners are providing fantastic, reasonably priced food. Our group had the French Onion soup, the curry, the mac cheese, fish n chips, steak pie, Etonian mess and the sticky toffee pudding. Everything was fresh and very tasty. ( the steak pie was a little tad dry, but not enough to mention). The owner was buzzing around and I’m sure feeling very proud of his chef who popped out to check on his food. Overall a great meal and will be our first choice for this kind of food in Forfar. Would recommend booking as people had to be turned away. 👍

It is divided into two environments, a pub area for drinking beers and alcoholic beverages and the other area for enjoying food. The waitress is very attentive and is attentive to customers all day. Attended for the Sunday carvery… a little disappointed. It used to be 10/10 The steak pie had no chunks of meat it was all “pulled pork” like consistency but pretty much 80% gravy , half the roast potatoes were burnt and had no potato in them, Yorkshire puddings burnt, cold, left out for a while very stodgy. One member of our group had macaroni cheese instead of the carvery and it was prepared badly due the huge amount of oils that was sitting on top of the dish from the cheese, it tasted like tinned macaroni with extra cheese on top again nothing like it used to be. Overheard another customer asking if the gravy was made from the juices from the meat and she was told it’s just gravy granules (it used to be made from meat juices and was lovely!) good points - waitress was very kind, polite and helpful, the gammon tasted nice, the puddings were good.. over all the standard has came down a lot

The waitress was very friendly and good at her job its obvious the restaurant is needing a bit of TLC but there is definitely improvement since my last visit. I wish the new landlord every success.

What a difference since last visit and change of management! We enjoyed a delicious two course lunch here. Ample portions (one small) served piping hot. We each had the very tasty steak pie with baby potatoes, carrots and peas followed by the now famous sticky toffee pudding (the sponge is so light!) which is served with either cream or icecream. Friendly waitress, great value and most important good food! Only downside is old fashioned decor - could do with refurbishment. That said, would certainly recommend ..... and our compliments to the chefs

Read great reviews about the food here so we decided to try as they are dog friendly. We asked for a bowl of water for the pup and it arrived in a proper dog bowl. We ordered the haggis balls starter between us and a small homemade mince pie, beans and chips each. The haggis balls were nice enough although the batter was soft, but came with beautiful bread and a salad. The pie beans and chips were rather tasteless and dry I’m afraid and we were given a full portion rather than the small portion we asked for. An honest mistake. We had to ask for salt, pepper and vinegar and no napkins were supplied. Service was swift and the young lady serving us always had a smile. Second chances are always given so we will return for a meal at a later date.

As a young single guy in Forfar it’s hard to find a pub with a friendly atmosphere that is not cliquey however since I have started going here I have met so many good people, the bar staff are friendly customer oriented and can’t help enough, I have not once gone in and felt unwelcome, it’s always a good laugh no matter when you go in, the quiz nights are also a brilliant laugh Xmas eve and Hogmanay the pub was packed, everyone laughing and enjoying them selves, brilliant choice of both draft beers and ciders and an excellent choice of spirits and shots and all at very reasonable competitive prices, overall this is a brilliant pub and I wouldn’t choose to go for a pint anywhere else!!

What has happened here??? Just recently returned to Forfar after a few years away - and this place used to be a proper comfortable pub. Good atmosphere, freindly staff always welcoming.... But now! The atmosphere is terrible. The bar staff seemed to be more interested in chatting & laughing to each other than serving customers. I stood at the bar for several minutes until one woman who was sitting at the other end of the bar chatting away on her phone, raised her eyes, got up to eventually serve me my pint. I actually felt guilty that I had to interrupt her conversation to be served. After that she went back to her corner and resumed her phone call. I only drank half of my pint and left it and walked out. Not a friendly place anymore. Oh one other thing. The lager was warm and flat!

This was my first visit in around 4 years. The lack of customers on a Sunday evening should have been a clue. The food was ok but only the potatoes could be described as hot, the ham was nice though. My pint was barely full with too large a head. We weren't asked if we wanted any more drinks or a coffee. Fine for the price and might try again but needs more attention to detail and customer service.

The young waitress asked how we enjoyed the meal when my husband was paying the bill, unfortunately replied ok,as the family were that disappointed we just wanted to leave .Sorry will not return. It would be nice if meat was handled properly with utensils and not man handled with blue gloves.Never seen meat cut in this way ever.Very poor example of a carvery .Poor display ,chips and some roast potatoes mixed together ,only one small helping of cauliflower cheese left ,carrots over cooked and broccoli the only other veggie ,hot water trays don’t work.Dessert told to stand at display and some one will serve you ,poor choice and very poor customer service. At least 2 of company didn’t have dessert.Really should have complained at time .Hope lessons are learned from this review.

The bar of the queens street tavern, has pulled in a lot of new customers , from one particular bar in the town, before the new management . This is due to the atmosphere and banter in the bar, created by the 'new' customers AND the bar staff. I thought that customer engagement and building report, would be a prime directive that would be encouraged , if not mandated by any management. Rather than listen to one prudish indivual, listen to the LOYAL customers . If Highladdie2018 does not like the Atmosphere and banter, no-one is forcing him/her to frequent the bar. One individual who may have an axe to grind with specific bar staff does not represent the majority of customers . To all - get yourself into the bar and have a great laugh with the customers and the staff!!!!

The waitress was indifferent to us as we entered and this should have been a warning. We had 3 very bad courses. A chowder as thin as water with what looked like frozen veg floating in it and little fish. Then a risotto sitting in a thin liquid and rice cooked to mush. Also the arbroath smoked pancake was small & thin, with little filling and no visible creamed leeks which were on the menu. We spoke to the sales assistant when we payed and he defended all the meals and told that's how a chowder should be !! He wasn't apologetic in any way. The poor quality of food and service was awful.

Worst nights sleep I’ve ever had, was like something out of a horror movie, outdated decor, beds were so uncomfy I would have been better sleeping on the floor, and window was jammed open so I was cold all night because the sheets were paper thin and pillows were super thin aswell! I woke up the next day and was told there was no one at the reception so I would have to leave out another door there was literally no one there but who I hope was a cleaner because I gave her my room key! Hard pass!
