Friendly service with plenty of space for our party of 32 on an archaeological study tour . I enjoyed my crispy batter fish and chips though some thought the fish was too thinly cut and the Caesar salad was hearty but not authentic.

Perfect service, choice on the menu was extraordinary.. drink selection very comprehensive... My only gripe would be not getting some bread served with the meal.. I'm used to this in France and it doesn't cost much.. Perfect for those sauces left on the plate .

This was our second visit for breakfast. The Old Boatyard is situated on the seafront, so the views are lovely. The food was delicious, the Arbroath Smokles, obviously a must. The staff were very attentive. Definitely worth a visit, but check opening times, though. We arrived a bit early.

Good honest fresh seafood. Nothing fancy The service staff is mainly teenagers. Not surprisingly as it is so difficult for the catering industry to find staff nowadays. We were asked 4 times by 4 different waiteresses in 5 minutes what drink we wanted. They just need to get trained or allocated some tables.

We have been here on several occasions, food is always good, service is prompt, and the staff have a good sense of humour and banter. Worth a visit.

Service was good and the staff very nice. We only had drinks which are more expensive than most other places. Didn't have a dairy alternative hot chocolate, which was a shame.

The staff were polite, attentive, quick to act and just lovely - offering us alternatives if something was sold out and even offering to move us to a different table when one became available as ours wasn't in a great place. There is a great menu with something for everyone (one of us is vegetarian and another doesn't eat fish). When the food arrived, it looked great, it was hot and it was absolutely delicious, there were 4 empty plates by the time we were finished. Cannot recommend this place enough! It was my first time here but it wont be my last, the best meal you will find in the area. Thanks to all the staff who made it such a lovely evening!

I have been here on numerous occasions and have to say I have never been disappointed until now. Party of 5, one being a youngster and a bill of over £200. I have to say 4 meals were good, I choose a starter and a main from the “specials”. Whitebait which was cooked in the same fryer as the fish and tasted like a chippy, I did not complain just thought I’ll not order that again. My main was a whole Plaice, was not greatly presented but could overlook this, the fish itself was all stringy and mushy, it slipped through the prongs of the fork and had no taste. It ended up a mushy mess in the liquid at the bottom of the plate. I told the waitress that I was disappointed with the meal and had to ask twice to speak to someone to be told this was the nature of the fish and no one else had complained about it. The young lad who came with the bill was very rude and on leaving with the bill paid in full as they refused to accept the fish was unacceptable I stopped to thank the waitress as she had been lovely, and to tell the owner that I was very disappointed with the attitude we had received, he smirked and nodded his head at me, I will never be back either here or his chippy as I found his attitude was that he knew my meal was unacceptable but did not care one bit, for an owner to act like that I find totally unacceptable

Oh my word. The food was amazing. The chef really knows how to cook seafood and the staff were just amazing. They were friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back. The location is also fantastic. Thank you xxx

Disappointing high teas. There are some nice things on the menu, but the high tea is poor and overpriced. The cake selection was small and stingy for the amount of people it served.

We recently dined at this harbor restaurant and had an exceptional experience. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, making us feel right at home. Despite the restaurant being busy, we were seated promptly. Now, onto the food – the pasta was truly outstanding. The flavors were exquisite, and it's evident that the kitchen takes great pride in their culinary creations. We highly recommend this restaurant for its warm atmosphere, delectable cuisine, and efficient service. A delightful dining choice by the harbor.

I was really impressed with everything in the restaurant, but especially the Arbroath Smokie Chowder… Oh my god! The service and atmosphere were excellent as well. We visited there in September and left with great memories!

Situated between the harbour and the signal tower museum, and with magnificiant views out to sea The Old Boatyard is in a splendid location. Food and drinks are not cheap, however the quality was excellent, and the service just as good. There is ample parking outside and the restaurant being situated all on ground level is easily accessible by wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Food and service was excellent. Prices very reasonable for the quality of meals. Very busy but staff were attentive and were happy and polite.

Second visit ,staff were lovely and very efficient ,I had smokie linguine, felt it could have been warmer ,but edible ,all in all a nice meal but felt it was a bit expensive for what we had

Quick service and good choice of food

My son and his family visiting from Australia wanted to try Arbroath Smokies. They loved them. Everything about our visit was perfection. Our server, a lass from Liverpool took great care if us. Thanks to everyone at the Old Boatyard. We will be back on their next visit to Scotland

Had a cocktail which came with a hair in it. Asked for a new one and that one with another hair in it! Third time lucky. Other drinks and food good. Was quite happy with it all until on leaving they ignored us saying bye and one member said to another fairly loudly that we were "very rude". Don't think asking for hygiene standards is rude and we were polite about the whole thing. At least wait until the customer leaves before talking about them!

Very nice meal at a good price for the excellent quality. Party of five and all enjoyed it. Nice atmosphere and great friendly staff who are very enthusiastic. Most had fish but I had a steak and very nicely cooked it was, with crispy onion rings and hot pepper sauce. Delicious.

Friendly welcome and well looked after by a professional team. Food and service was outstanding - not rushed but not ignored, despite being the Friday before Christmas. Realistically priced for quality and quantity offered. Noticed how nicely children were treated by staff. Well done and thank you, we'll be back on our next visit to Scotland.

Did not like the chips, terrible thin things all greasy

Visted yesterday for an engagement celebration. Food seemed good but the place needed a good clean. Very run down, dirty and the toilets were very poor. Windows were smeared, dust everywhere and no attention to detail. We were handed menus that looked like children had eaten their dinner off them then used them to draw all over. Should have left then tbh. We both had fish dishes which tasted very good but the fish soup was full of bones and lets say not feeling great today. The meal wasn't cheap which makes it all the worse. We aren't people who make a fuss so just wouldnt recommend and definitely wouldn't return!

Thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal at the old boatyard. Great parking facilities followed by a warm welcome into a very pleasant dining area. Food was excellent and the service was great too. Prices very reasonable. Can't wait to go back.

Best seafood lunch I've ever had. I'm not surprised the restaurant was busy on a November weekday.

Very good. On a rainy day visit to Arbroath it was great to have some Smokies here. Views out over the sea wall /Harbour. Service was prompt and friendly. About the best venue in town (that we saw on our 1.5 hour walkabout).

Great location and food was absolutely supurb, we wanted seafood and were spoilt for choice on the menu. Both my wife and I had the fish pie for main course - made with smokies and absolutely delicious. Starters were also good, Fish pate and oatcakes for my wife and I had the mussels - both v good. Wine was also excellent. A long time since I had a meal out this good, we will definitely be back.

Last minute decision, phoned and made a reservation. On arrival, a nice friendly welcome and taken to our table. The specials were explained to us and we all made our choices. Food and drink were exceptional. I can highly recommend the Oysters. Waiting staff were brilliant and friendly and I can only apologise for tripping over the owner on my crutches!!! First time here, but will be on our list of restaurants in the local area that we choose to go to!!!

Lovely setting by the sea. Great local standard dishes including fresh haddock. Also good variety of more upmarket plates. Look forward to returning.

Only had some coffees which was nice. Comfortable seating and a nice view of the harbour. Didn't eat so cannot comment on the food but what we saw was huge pieces of cake that looked really nice. Staff were welcoming.

Some great seafood - scallops were first class. Chowder was weak and watery. Dog area only outside on flags not on decking is a ridiculous rule.

Arrived as unbooked walk-ins at midday 5/10/23. Staff so welcoming and attentive with wonderful food at very reasonable price given the portion size and quality. Had hoped to find a lovely restaurant overlooking the marina and this exceeded all our expectations. Best of all the staff suggested other places in Arbroath to visit to help make for a truly lovely day. This restaurant and the folk who work there are a real credit to Arbroath and great ambassadors for the town. Thank you.

We had a great meal in this lovely restaurant. We were in Arbroath specifically for the smokies my husband had wanted to try for very many years and this was our first taste. We both had them for starters (there were various ways you could have them). Then I had halibut, one of my very favourite fish, and it was delicious. Husband had equally delicious sea bass. Restaurant was very busy but service was good and staff were efficient and charming. We went back another day for morning coffee and cake - very good. They also serve breakfast. We'd love to go back.

Overbooked, horrendously busy,no room between tables and extremely noisy because of hen parties. This was 6 o’clock on a Saturday evening. Food overpriced,especially starter and main,fish pie,had little sauce and was as dry as unbuttered bread. Reported dry fish pie 3 times but no one was interested. They just wanted our money and our table.Made us feel very unwelcome.Won’t be back.

We visited on a busy night over the August Bank Holiday weekend, so the place was packed and very noisy. Our table was cramped against a side door - although I had booked ahead - and smokers were squeezing in and out and leaving the door open, so I was acting as doorman. The staff were friendly but rushed off their feet. We had all seafood entrees and mains. The bisque lacked taste and the rest was just OK for the price. Maybe we would have done better to order fish and chips. Even given how busy things were, I would not return.

Four of us here for a family meal. Two of us had the haddock/leek crepe, very tasty however the accompanying sauce was rather “thin” but very tasty, we asked for bread so as not to leave so much of it. Chowder was imo also a bit “thin” but again was very tasty and was certainly enjoyed. Bread was lovely, as was my glass of Rose. The other three just had water. Three of us had fish and chips, all three enjoyed this. I had the hake with fragrant (Thai inspired) risotto, I really enjoyed this, the flavours in the risotto blended together very well. Two of us shared a knickerbocker glory (not my first choice from the sundae’s list), it’s been years since I’ve had one and we both enjoyed it. The service was good, surroundings are nice, but there was a couple of bits of food from previous diners on the floor under our table/my chair, something I do get a bit irked at. Women’s toilet was very clean, that’s something I truly appreciate. The menu prices on here should be up-dated as they have risen quite a bit. Overall, I would definitely happily return any time. It was my first visit, the other three had all eaten here at least once previously and are also happy to return any time.

Lobster Thermidor absolutely brilliant! Delicious 😋

First time i have ever seen a lobster thermador served topped with spiced mushrooms ? No cheese no garlic no breadcrumbs in fact it was disgusting for £50.. You need to teach or replace your chef as the hake on the risotto was so overcooked and dry it was inedible

Did any of these “chefs” learn how to prepare seafood in continental Europe? My garlic prawns arrived shelled. Sitting in a yellow puddle. I was expecting five prawns in shells in garlicked butter. This was a butter sauce with garlic tossed over the seafood. I asked for chips… they were hard and dry. I actually left them. No point in complaining … no point in mentioning Livorno, the joys of Arcachon or St Jean de luz. They’d have thought I was a crank. But I do know that nowhere in France would this bizarre presentation be accepted. Seafood restaurant? I don’t think so!! The salad was the star act tho!

Came here for weekend and been here every night for a fish and chips have really enjoyed our weekend

We arrived at 11.15 on a Saturday morning after the place being recommended. I asked about where we could sit with the dog, expecting to be able to sit outside on the balcony overlooking the harbour but was told dogs were only allowed in a small dark external area with no view at all. When I asked about breakfast dishes was told that they had finished serving breakfast but that we could look at the lunch menu but wouldn’t be able to order for another 12 /15 minutes. We chose to go elsewhere and had a lovely brunch with the dog being made very welcome.

Crowded and noisy. Food expensive and only average quality. Drinks very expensive. We visited for a lunchtime snack earlier in the week which was much better. The evening meal quality was different - as a group of four older adults we were disappointed.

Senior staff a bit offhand. Paid more for a decaf latte than a normal latte. We had booked well in advance for 6 people. We're given a table for 4 with 2 extra settings on the ends. Was a bit tight for 6 adults. A bit disappointing.

Lovely fresh proper Food Went Along on a Sunday afternoon after reading the review in the courier. Given a lovely tsbke overlooking the harbour albeit bit windy my husband Wanted to change seats due to windy conditions thanks girls for your patience, Lovely friendly waitress bubbly ! Had smokie pancakes delicious the sauce to die for..I had hake with risotto had this in London this was so much better quality first class presentation same. Husband had chips fish peas would have been nice plate a bit lost without them. A great meal shall return thank you old boatyard

The food is excellent and it's a great location. However, the service was slow, repeatedly told 2 minutes in response to requests (three times) left without having a desert due to giving up waiting any longer. Glad we did as we got great ice-cream from the ice-cream shop across the way.

Had a lovely meal here. Restaurant was very busy even though it was Wednesday. Great atmosphere. Lovely staff (Natalie especially helpful). Recommend Arbroath, cliff walk and certainly The Old Boatyard. We'll be back.

We had better service at a self serve buffet.Staff were abrupt, no knowledge of the menu and food was quite substandard for the price charged. Was here once before and thought it was lovely so this makes the experience more disappointing. Would not recommend and won't go again which is a shame as the setting is quite lovely.

Where to start! Absolutely loved this place it made our stay in Arbroath really special. Beautiful food, great location overlooking the sea and some of the most attentive hospitality we have ever received.

We were served fish and chips that looked as if the batter needed the kiss of life.? I think the term is crisp golden batter, not crisp off white batter. Better using Marcos fish and chip shop 100 metres from the restaurant. It needs a a good freshen up and deep clean!

Fantastic every time, can't fault!

Recently came here for my 30th birthday meal with my family. The food is absolutely stand out - I had local mussels to start, then sea bass, most of my family had steak, and not a tiny bit was left! Everyone delighted in trying bits of each others food. Perfect. It seems to be a family business, and the staff could not have been more pleasant, chatty, and knowledgeable - suggesting excellent wine pairings for the steak and engaging with our conversation. We came back the next night for drinks looking over the sea on their veranda. Could not recommend more.

Outstanding food. Outstanding service. Made a mistake with one meal - owned that mistake and could not have been more attentive and apologetic. It doesn't always have to run smoothly to have an enjoyable evening and the family who run the restaurant certainly made our evening very enjoyable. Would highly recommend The Old Boatyard Restaurant to anyone visiting Arbroath.

The best Gish and Chips I have ever eaten was at The Old Boatyard! The service was amazing, and everyone was so friendly and helpful! Gorgeous setting!!

My husband booked a Sunday lunch for us, a highchair and a pram. Poor choice as they are clearly not child friendly. The manager let the waitress accomodate the 4 of us in a 2 seats table with no extra room around for the pram. She looked pretty confused on how to set up the table for two adults and one highchair. We asked if she could move us over the window where there was more space between tables but apparently that area was already booked. So when I went to the bar to speak to who I believe was the manager (surely not for the professional appearance but just because he looked more stressed than the sleepy waitress) he showed me the reservations page (with literally two bookings for the day), saying that due to a misunderstanding they didn't consider space for the pram and that he could try moving us somewhere else. Really, he should have spent 5 extra minutes to work out where to accommodate us before making us feeling not welcome. Therefore we left. I don't know what happened to management, but I would like to suggest to the owner that food quality and management are the two things you don't save money on. Obviously, won't return and won't recommend it to the people I know.

Terrible service. Servers are rude, obnoxious and didn’t even get the basics right. They didn’t even check that we were happy with the food (which we weren’t). Food was poor and over priced. The feedback we provided was negatively received. Would definitely not recommend!

We popped in here on a visit to Arbroath recently. Warm welcome from all staff. First table we were sat at was a bit cramped for us all but soon moved to a bigger table with no problem. Food was really good, fish in particular...

Honestly, we actually quite enjoyed our lunch stop here right up until we went to pay. Nice food, friendly service, great setting. Unfortunately the steak (in the steak sandwich) was really gristly, the kind where it looks ok but you can't chew it down, and literally only half could be eaten. The waitress was sympathic and said she'd "sort it", but when we went to the till to pay, the owner didn't want to know, and simply thrust the card machine at me. Admittedly I should have made more of a protest, but in the end we paid and left with bitter taste. Shame really.

Good food and drinks. Lovely location BUT if you visit with dogs expect to be sent to an outside seating area around the side of the building where smokers are also sent. This despite the front seating area, where the harbour view is, being large and, on our visit, completely empty. Disappointing. Won't visit again.
