In reply to Sheldon inns last two replies I happened to be unfortunate on the day that the very very rude and disgusting landlady was speaking to Ashley cain and friends. Just to say I went into the Bird in hand to get more drinks and explained to the Landlady what was going on with charity for cancer incase she didn't realise the situation. I was horrified with her reply which was I DONT CARE ITS NOT MY PROBLEM!!! Will never go again to this pub until she has gone.

Came yesterday for a quiet drink met lovely guy called Ashley Cain who had lost.his 8month old daughter who was raising money for charity. We was disgusted at the landlady response to losing his daughter said he should of asked before eating his sandwiches I would not enter the pub again as it was abhorant and where was the empathy. Keep up the good work Ash dunno What the landlady name is but the brewery needs to be informed of her attitude to mankind

No food despite it being plastered on the outside walls. We Moored near on the canal. Saw barman who said we could park overnight. Following day spoke to Landlady just to confirm as we would be drinking in the pub each evening for the week to confirm it would be OK to leave car in car park. I was met by a terrade of comments along the lines of "this is not a public car park". Fair enough, but the car park and pub are empty all week, except Fridays when the guys from the building sites turn up for their evening pints. I did her the courtesy of asking, and she could have replied in the same vain, but instead took a bad attitude. A simple no would have done. I even tried to rell her that you cannot get to the pub by Google maps. The answer "was you found it alright". It didn't dawn on her that visitors to the area might give up after spending a half hour fruitlessly trying to find her pub.

Hey - Let's park our car at the pub, walk for an hour, then come back for lunch - great Idea...... Not from the LandLady's perspective!!! What are you doing!!! - "going for a walk and then back for lunch - we said" Well - I need to know who is parking n my carpark!! - and we are not serving lunch today! (the website does not say that) - ok - We'll come back for a pint then!! Met with distain...... Anyway - this led to us leaving and finding a more welcoming place to visit

Great little gem tucked away from the main road right on the cut, think it’s mainly a locals pub but we popped in for the first time yesterday evening (20/08/22) and was made to feel welcome. It looked like it was full of locals laughing and joking but we will definitely be visiting again and as often as possible. Great choice of beers on offer too 🍻

AVOID this pub at all costs! I have never experienced such rude and discourteous attitude from a so called manager. The aggressive attitude was also experienced by other customers. It’s a shame that such a great potential is ruined by the management - go elsewhere!

Lovely friendly higgledy pickledy canal side pub. Dogs welcome. Big garden, as well as towpath terrace with plenty of seating. The bowling green is no more. We had a bad service incident when asking for a refund on an inedible meal of 'cod(?) and chips. No refund as apparently the best fish they have used is enjoyed by many. We were told we should have carried the plate back into the pub from the garden (I am disabled) and complained as soon as the dish was served. We were waiting for the waitress to return to the table to ask "is everything OK with your food?" Nobody did. When returning to the bar we did tell the barmaid about our dissatisfaction and merely got a verbal apology. Great shame as we loved the pub but won't be back for food. Absolutely rubbish customer service. Left a nasty taste, in more ways than one.

This place has changed hands recently. The lady who's running it was very rude to us and not welcoming at all. There's a sign saying"There's a warm welcome"It should be changed to a "_Cold welcome " The food menu is very limited and really basic. The only plus sign is my husband said the beer was good. Wouldn't recommend this place due to the unfriendly lady who's running it.

Sat for 15 minutes with no acknowledgement from staff, asked a member of staff if I could order some food and drinks to be told abruptly the waitress is busy and will be with us shortly, she then showed me a list of 5 drinks that were waiting to be poured and told be to go else where if I didn't want to wait, then she told the table next door that we were rude!!!!! If you're on the canal and stop off here you are guaranteed a friendly (and dog-friendly) welcome, great beer, a lovely outside area to sit in the sun and filling, wholesome, good value food. If you're looking for refined surroundings and fine dining then this is not going to do it for you but if you want a filling meal and a great pint in comfortable surroundings then moor up here and you're in for a treat. We stopped here twice - Beware, they stop serving food at 4pm on a Sunday - and had a comfy sit in the sun with an enjoyable drink on the Sunday and a filling cheap enjoyable meal on the 2nd occasion that we would be happy to repeat.

Turned up late, and they reopened the kitchen for a meal for the four of us. Much appreciated! The food was really good, and even more-so by the fact that it was prepared with such short notice. It seems a 'bit of a locals' pub, compact inside, but everyone made us welcome as passing holidaymakers on the canal. Great place to stop on the homeward leg of the narrowboat trip, with 20 mins run into the marina the following morning.

After a long stroll along the canal, we came across the Bird in Hand, there is lots of seating outside, right by the canal, lovely setting, and after a couple of drinks we went inside to eat, you don't have to, they will bring your meals out to you, if you wish. Having made our choices from the menu, which was quite good, and not to expensive, we were served with our meals, and the portion sizes made the price seem even more reasonable. It is obviously a locals pub, but both the staff and the locals were very friendly. Good selection of drinks available, and a large car park.

I really really loved my time here!My family are new too the area and we were recommended to visit here. What can I say that reflects the true feeling of the place? It is so cosy inside and out. Sitting out overlooking the canal on a warm day drinking cider, well nothing beats that. It's lovely to watch the barges going past, seeing the fishermen and the ramblers with there dogs. It's nice to be a little bit out the way so it's not overcrowded like some of the places centrally located. The people who work here are friendly and easy going. People will talk to you and make you feel welcomed. They have a great range of drinks and my family love the stowford press in particular. I've had meals here when it's been quiet and busier and have always been so impressed. Such a wide variety and you can't fault what you get for the low price! It's great to see places actually have food that's locally sourced in this day and age as well. On a Sunday be sure to book if you are eating as it gets really busy. I can't wait to go again! I look forward to my walk down the canal and sitting outside in the sun! Thanks 'The Bird In Hand'.

We had the good fortune to be directed to this pub by a friendly lock keeper on the river Severn. We were not disappointed! After arriving just as food orders were closing Dave made us very welcome and assured us we would still be served, even though there were 7 of us. We enjoyed a delicious meal and good company in the bar afterwards, promising ourselves a visit on the return journey if we had time. Little did we know we would be back 2 nights later, forced to stay in Stourport as the Severn was inaccessible due to heavy rain! In fact we moored for 3 nights! Mine hosts again came up trumps and went out of their way to accommodate us. Nothing was too much trouble! I have no hesitation in recommending this pub to canal travellers. What a pity all canalside pubs aren't as friendly and helpful! We will return some day! A huge thank you from the North East! I am sure you will remember us!

A lovely old fashioned pub, quiet, peaceful, pleasant aspect next to the canal. Spent a relaxing lunchtime watching barges and dog walkers go by. Everyone very friendly. The lunch menu is simple but comprehensive, with most tastes catered for. They were very happy to provide vegetarian and gluten free meals, adapting recipes to suit. Nice pub inside but it was a beautiful day so we took our drinks outside over looking the canal itself. Nice pint of real ale and nice to see holiday canal boaters gliding past with a cheery wave and smile, that's what happens to people when the sun shines and you are enjoying yourself. Pleasant bar staff, good pint, nice interior, nice canal be aware it does face the local old time cemetry but it is usually screened off with shrubbery.

Tucked away up a cul-de-sac, this canal side pub is quaint little gem. Naturally, the canal boat theme pervades the whole place which has been a licenced house for hundreds of years, I believe. There is a good real ale selection and a fairly extensive bar food menu which is good value. It makes a great lunch stop, particularly in summer months when you can sit outside under a wisteria covered area and watch the canal boats glide by. Magic!

Called in at the Black Star, but they had 'run out' of food, which as it turns out was lucky for us. Carried on and stumbled upon the Bird in Hand, easy to find from the canal path but postcode needed by road as it's hidden behind some houses.Very friendly welcome and as most of the food is home made and cooked on the premises and the meat from a local butcher locally sourced it's nigh on impossible for them to run out.We ordered a selection of meals mixed grills, burger and cheese topped cottage pie and remembering my mums saying "good food takes time to cook" sat down and after a short than I expected wait they arrived and we weren't disappointed, not a microwaved item on the plates. Steaks cooked as ordered, not the usual over cooked dry steaks that most places serve. The home made cottage pie was top notch and the home cut chips perfect. My teenage (fussy) son said the home made burger was one of the best he tasted so can't be bad.The deserts also didn't disappoint from chocolate sponge to home made bread pudding. To top it all off, the bill all in with meals and 2 1/2 rounds of drinks for 5 of use was a tad under £70.Definitely worth a visit.

Stourport born-&-bred, I spent many a happy hour here with "the lads" in the '60s. My Grandfather used to play bowls on the green here, and my Father and I both had a beer or three here on the evenings before our weddings. When back in the area, I always try to look in. Unfortunately, on the last occasion, just over a year ago, it had been closed. However, since March 2014, it has re-opened, I'm delighted to say. We weren't looking for anything fancy - just a pint of shandy (I was driving), a mineral water and some simple pub-grub. We settled on a jacket spud and a ham-salad sandwich, with a side-order of chips. The portions were large, and the ham was thick (and most definitely not "plastic"). Mine host was very amicable as I recalled tales of decades ago. However, I suspect that he could do with a bit more trade, as it was rather quiet on this Tuesday lunch-time; and I guess that it might still be suffering from the knock-on effect of its erstwhile closure. It would be a tremendous shame if this very historic canal-side pub could not be made to be a great success again: it fully deserves that. It was much sought-out in the 1960s and '70s, and it retains the potential to become so again.

We had come through on the canal and were looking forward to a slap up pub dinner. I ordered the rump steak and once we had paid we were then informed that there would be an hour long wait for food. We kept cheerful and caught up on chat and ate nuts. My food when it came was passable. It had not been that expensive but the steak had a fair bit of fatty grissle and I have had far better. There were so many chips but I was disappointed with the salad which consisted only of lettuce and some slivers of onion. I was full of chips by the end but felt that I could have achieved that for a portion of chips at the chippy. I would not return. We walked about a mile up the road for dinner on the return leg. We did have a friendly welcome and the place was clean. Mein host stood and talked to us for a while which would have been nice while we waited for food but was a bit off putting once we had our food in front of us. All in all could do better.

The kids who work here spend more time messing around than focusing on their jobs and customers. The food variety isn’t as good as others in the chain.

I was in Blackpool recently for the weekend and the lager in most pubs we went in was well under £3 a pint. I do not expect to pay premium prices in a brewery owned pub, especially when pubs such as Wetherspoons can undercut them by a considerable amount and other non brewery owned pubs as well. The Wetherspoons pub in Stourbridge is full most days, which reflects the reasonable pricing for food and beer. The food prices in Marston's pubs are also on the high side, but the food was mostly quite good and the service was good. If pubs are to survive they need to be competitive with regards to pricing and not charge through the nose....£3.10 for half a coke is very expensive in my view and the beer is too expensive...well over £5 per pint for Guinness is crazy. It's a nice enough pub, but well overpriced.
