The Big Chill Bar in Tower Hamlets

Been here a number of times, varying in occasions.. Date, night out, work drinks.. But today I visited alone & as always, lovely vibe. Really friendly and chatty staff.

I'd been to The Big Chill in Kings Cross and didn't realise there was another one - the Brick Lane bar has a more East London vibe and is in a slightly remote location. Great atmosphere and choice of drinks.

The bar is actually nice and chill, and the spritz is good. However, there is a football table that accepts £1 coins only, and the cashier / staff couldn’t help finding the coin. They didn’t want to exchange my cash, or let me pay it by card or find any other solution. Actually rude staff in dealing with this. They should at least look for a solution or have a proactive attitude. The rest was fine.

We asked for 2 espresso martini (£11 each)and they were tasteless, the recipe was wrong, we asked gently if they can swap them with £5 aperol spritz and they said that we have to pay for the aperol spritz which we didn’t and we left! Never again!

Arran and his team were incredibly helpful in our set up of a 100+ person scavenger hunt across the area! They provided a great space for the event and helped us set up thank you!

Just great value for a really good burger on their lunch time deal. £10 for any burger, fries and a glass of coke. Nothing really to complain about. Fairly easy jazz playing - all good.

From door staff to bartenders everyone was super attentive and smiley! We had some food and a couple of cocktails, everything was great! Definitely coming back ^.^

Came across this place while looking for somewhere to grab lunch while at a nearby conference. Thought it seemed simple enough. Small menu, serving burgers and beers. Popped in and attempted to order a burger. Waitress was much more concerned with saying hello to her friends and even ran off in the middle of taking my order to go and chat to them. Then attempted to overcharge on said order. I should have seen the warning signs at this point. I was advised there was a 30 minute wait on food. No problem with this and took a beer back to my table once again ensured I was correctly charged (waitress failed to offer or issue me with my receipt). What then ensued was a painful back and forth as the suggested waiting time on food came and went. We kept being advised our order was next but still we waited. 1 hour and 5 minutes later it finally arrived. Unfortunately not worth the wait. If it was an hour for food please in future just tell your customers so they can make their own decision on whether they will eat with you or not. An extra ten minutes no problem I understand it’s an estimate but this wasn’t even close. Very disappointing and will not be returning.

Visited with friends and the bouncer was hostile, rude and seemed to like picking on young women and making them feel uncomfortable. I’ve read other reviews which sound similar so I hope the problem is addressed as it’s enough to put us off from coming back.

Fantastic cocktails and sierra gave fantastic service. I would definitely recommend again and Sierra is the best cocktail maker I’ve ever seen. Fantastic

Me & my husband visited early afternoon, so it was relatively quiet. We chose to sit outside as it was a lovely sunny day, on the the benches which are comfortable. I had the chuck burger, which was delicious, the sauce and bun perfect, and no additional tomato stopped it being soggy. The burger was part of a meal deal for £9, comprising of burger, fries, soft drink. We had soda cream and fresh lime juice, extremly lovely and very good value. Staff very friendly, the venue, including toilets were very clean. Great place to people watch too.

Came here with the girls for brunch and service was too slow so we really didn’t enjoy our time here unfortunately, as most of it was spent complaining about being totally ignored whilst other tables seemed to get more attention. The options were good but food wasn’t great. Price was ok but we chose not to pay service charge and received a very dirty look from the staff member. Sorry, the clue is in the name “service” charge. So no thanks, won’t be visiting anytime soon.

We went there for lunch as they have a very good deal: £9 for a burger, fries and drink. Ordering was not hard, but we had to wait more than 20 mins for our burgers and it was so not busy. I had the vegan burger while my mate had a beef burger. They were both very good but nothing special. Cocktails are a bit expensive but average for the area.

Just a bit long, really. Hostile bouncer that stared at the girlfriend for the duration. Order a bottle - ice bucket is empty, hence nice and warm. Topped off with a generally grubby environment. More or less the same every time, hence awarding the big chill the dubious honour of probably the crappest drink near brick lane. I’m not even picky, I drink echo falls in the bath. You deserve better than this.

We found this bar on brick lane just by a mistake and I'm so sad I haven't found it until now when I only have two months left to stay here :( Will be coming here a lot as from now and I will be coming back when I arrive back to London soon! I especially love the bartender! They are so friendly and nice and it's hard to find in a big city you know! They have a menu for a vegan as well so nice!

It is my favorite place to visit in London. if you want nice local and standard beers and burgers, this is the place. Also around the bar, there are nice clothing stores. ロンドンでもっともお気に入り場所。ローカルからスタンダードなビール、美味しいバーガーもありオススメです。

We called at Big Chill today, we didn’t eat but the menu looked great. The chef prepares food in front of you as you walk in.

Maria is the best bartender I’ve ever met. She always has time for everyone, works hard and is personable even when it’s rammed! Love this place, love this woman!

This has to be the worst bar i have ever been to. I have been here 6 times and the only good thing about this place is the security guy named Jude i met. At first he didnt look like a security because he dressed so smart and cool everytime i went there. He was the most friendly and well mannered person there. He was very helpful more than the managers. When i was drunk he helped me get an uber home. He looked after me properly. What the managers and supervisors was doing was mostly drinking when they were suppose to be working. Some of the managers were very rude and lack professionalism. I dont think i will ever come back to this place. The managers are ruining the reputation of the place no wonder its never busy.

Katito y yo deambulamos por Shoreditch buscando un pub de moda para nuestro día libre. Descubrimos que Big Chill estaba abierto, así que nos aventuramos a entrar. Un pub enorme con una buena selección de cervezas y el pequeño y encantador cantinero me dejaron probar algunas. Decidí ir por la cerveza local que estaba en un tanque. Olvidé el nombre pero fue genial.Terminamos bebiendo bastante aquí y al final de la noche nos acompañó un grupo de damas sudafricanas rudas. ¡Nos contaron todo sobre su artista favorito que acababan de ver Dope Lemon! Luego conversamos sobre nuestros viajes y situaciones extrañas en las que nos encontramos mientras estábamos borrachos.Si volvemos a shoreditch y estamos cerca de este pub tranquilo. Iré a tomar una cerveza rápida y un cigarrillo.

Hemos estado aquí antes y siempre disfrutamos de una o dos bebidas afuera en la pequeña área del patio. Sin embargo, esta vez fue aún mejor ya que ahora estoy libre de gluten. Estoy constantemente buscando cerveza GF y ¡ENCONTRÉ ALGUNOS! ¡Estaba tan feliz cuando miré el menú y vi algunas cervezas GF, no solo una persona! Tienen a Jubel ON DRAFT y también a Daura Damm en una botella. Me decidí por el Jubel ya que tenían el nuevo sabor a durazno. Ooh estuvo bien. Mi novio eligió una Camden Pale Ale y al instante se puso celosa de la mía.Pequeño y encantador lugar para observar y relajarse. Volveremos especialmente para la cerveza GF.

Nice drinks, music and friendly staff, fast service as well as good value for money, Busy on a Saturday but not a long wait at the bar. Will definitely come back and recommend to my friends.

Great burger in funny trendy surroundings near Brick Lane. Burger was great and musc good for enjoying newly hip area. No doubt a hot-spot in evenings as late night venue. Simple, modern geared towards young crowd.

Huge industrial style bar that lacks atmosphere. Big selection of drinks, but the same as everywhere else. Service functional. Cannot comment on the food as we did not have any.

We had a good night out for a works do. Plenty of space and no problem with queues at the bar. Very good location near to all the other bars and restaurants in and around Brick Lane.

this bar is right next door to Rough Trade East. djs at the weekend create a great dance vibe. we pop in for an hour and stayed for three. great buttermilk chicken available too.

Hipsters everywhere ! Beards and taches all out on show. Clean shaven suit wearers need not apply ie me. Great place though. Cool atmosphere and loved the murals throughout. I will return when my beard is back !

Tried to get in here tonight and the door staff tried to prevent us initial by asking for id (were all in our 30s). Then prevented us coming in together in a group (were all employed in council/government based job) for no reason. Can only assume it had something to do with our race!

Lost its charm . Abdullah at the door was very rude during exit . Would not recommend. Look elsewhere .

Det är väldigt mysigt både där inne men framför allt på uteserveringen på denna bar. Skönt med tak som gör att man får skugga när det är sol och du kan njuta av den härliga atmosfären från området och fint med gröna växter i talet. Det finns gott om plats, speciellt där inne. Men det är mycket folk i rörelse hela tiden så man fick snabbt en plats på uteserveringen.

This bar has been hear for years and Ive been to it many times, to hear bigger named DJs and for the music. This time was a bit different. They had a older reggae DJ on, he was quite good but we could only get a seat up the back and it felt like that we were in another bar.

Good place to drink a beer. Nice terrace in a lively Street. Great choice in beers. Did not try the food.

This is one of our "go to" bars in the area. We have ended up here on many nights out because its a firm favourite and for good reason!!!

This is great for a few drinks but is a little crowded. Prices are a little high but for the location cannot complain.

Wow unbelievable, went to brick lane on Easter Sunday with a mate , was walking along about 4pm & was immediately drawn to this place , had security on the door , once inside there was a band & the whole place was packed & totally enjoying the atmosphere, which was unbelievable considering the time & date ( apparently like this most of the time ) had a couple of drinks & was totally chilled ready for more of what brick lane had to offer

Shoreditch is my favourite area, cool , quirky and lively! I love a night out and Big Chill is always a good , fun , night out .

Group of couples went in the day while we were waiting to play crazy golf after. Enjoyed the football table and fits in the vibe of the area. Not a great choice of food but does good snacks

Popped in here for a cocktail whilst waiting to play crazy golf opposite. The design was industrial as were their cocktails which were just poured from large pre-mixed bottles over ice and served with a shot of alcohol and a piece of fruit. Slightly disappointed.

Vinimos aquí para bebidas de trabajo. Nunca había estado antes, pero me encantó. Este lugar tiene un ambiente fresco y moderno, que sólo estábamos planeado quedarnos una ronda de bebidas, pero acabamos quedándonos toda la noche. Personal amable que sin duda saben cómo hacer un espresso martini!

Great drinks and atmosphere. The cocktails are great and the staff are very friendly. The DJ plays great mixed music.

Terrible Christmas work event. We were left outside in the cold. Broken glass all over the floor. No seats. Totally unknown brands of gin and beer. Exceptionally expensive. I will never go back.

Great place to have a drink and relax with friends and family, place was buzzing as well with soo many people.

I always pop in here when in brick lane, generally I’ve been in the afternoons but this occasion I was heading past early evening and the afternoon was good. The DJ set at the time was playing some good tunes and it was obviously early enough not to be packed out.

Always pop in here when we visit Brick Lane.. Always been a afternoon drink and the place is usually quiet. Nice vibe to this pub and with a good range of beers, we will be back :)

Friendly bar service, but not quick, and had it been busier it would have been painfully slow.

Nos detuvimos y tomamos una copa aquí después de comer en un restaurante indio en Brick Lane. El lugar estaba lleno, la gente joven y sin preocupaciones, muchos sentados en la acera, ya que el lugar estaba tan lleno. Buen ambiente.

This is one of the most happening place around, every evening huge crowd gathering, with great variations of beers and great nachos! It is a real good time to be spent there, throwing out all your concerns to a far land and just CHILL in BIG CHILL! I enjoyed to be there and seeing so many happy people around is such a nice experience that I always wanted to go back!

La comida es bastante buena, pero muy poco. El servicio era bueno, el ambiente era un poco "incompleto".

So I had secret studio and restaurant plans round the corner for my birthday. I planned for me and 10 friends to come to this bar afterwards. I tried to make a reservation two days before over email but was told it was not possible after 830pm. But I was offered my name on the guest list instead. I thought cool at least nothing will go wrong with that! NO. It means nothing to be on the guest list! 8 out of 10 people were aged 26 to 35 with ID. What is the likelihood the last two (yes our fault for not bringing ID but we are so old now, we don't frantically panic about bringing ID everywhere) were under age at 17 years? Ok you must have precautions but what's a business where it's employees have no simple common sense? Could the doorman not get a manager to make a final decision after I mentioned having already spoken to them and being in a guest list? I only go to central London bars several times a year for a night out, and this was the first time in a long time I fancied a chilled bar for my bday. It ruined my expectations again.Maybe the bar is good but I can't say as I wasn't able to get in. Although, being held outside it was playing something cheesey and looked rammed pack at 10pm. Just make sure you bring ID!

In first time we follow the match on tv and then beer and dance. Low light and great music, good beer and professional bartender.

The Big Chill is a great place for early evening drinks. we pre booked a £50 min Spend table which lasted a couple of buckets of beer. the staff were quite friendly but a bit reluctant to provide us with the beer buckets as we were buying the beers during happy hour. The decor is quirky and typically Shoreditch.

Took friends who were visiting London for a drink here as I'd been before and liked it! Early Saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy but few people in here! Great selection of beers and the art work around the bar so fits in with Brick Lane! If anything the pumping music from the speakers is way to loud! I'm sure I'll be back :)

A dive bar of sorts serving standard drinks with top 40 music, service is good but the bar itself is in need of refurbishment

Went on a Saturday night around 10:30 and was really busy but with enough space for two people to still grab a seat.Drinks were reasonably priced and the music was pitched at a level that encouraged dancing but where you could still hold an audible conversation.

I work around the corner and it's perfect to come to when I want to unwinded after work. Drinks are a good price and it's a unique open space with loads of places to stand. Plus there is a football table what more would you want?

Visited here twice now, once before a night out and once for some casual drinks before heading out for dinner in London. The atmosphere was great and the staff were very friendly. The cocktails are a definite! Overall a great place.

Great day shopping, eating, reading , listening to live music, chatting, laughing, arguing, sharing, meeting a Hare Krishna person ... can't believe in reincarnation and if I eat meat I will be born next time as a cow so I can then go on and be slaughtered!! However the Big Chill was playing some good music. The coffee was great and I was able to get out my newly purchased red suede shoes. Service was spot on and lost of space !

A very nice place in the heart of Shoreditch, Baker Street. We spent funny time in a underground building where drink good beers, high-quality alchol and listening overwhelming music.

During our London trip we enjoyed some truly great cocktails in Bar Big Chill. The bar tender, a very chill guy from Melbourne, took great care in preparing us our drinks. I enjoyed the 'gingerbread sour' very much. Fingerlicking fantastic. The 'big tea party' my friend ordered was equally as good. The cocktails were excellent and we enjoyed sitting at the bar observing the waiters. Bar Big Chill is a hip and trendy place with an industrial feel and a huge bar. Drinks have to be ordered at the bar. You can sit inside or enjoy the big terrace outside. A great place for a drink!

A group of friends and I went here quite late at night.It's one of those bars where they make you line up and enter in small groups to pretend it's really busy, then when you get in it's empty at the back.After standing at the bar for 20 minutes and not being served, we left and went back to a friend's house. Won't be going back there...

Had a large group of 20+ come here for mine and a couple of people at work's birthday on a Thursday (September 29th).We had previously booked for up to 20 people however a lot more attended than expected so our area was quite cramped - however this was totally our error. The staff were great as were the drinks! Slightly on the expensive side but standard London really - would definitely go again!

Stopped at Big Chill after looking for a place to eat in the area. Managed to get a table outside as someone was leaving. Went inside to get menus and went back again to order. Simple food menu with a few toasted sandwiches and other pub food. Had a Mac n Cheese grilled cheese sandwich which was good. Service was pretty much non existent, the glasses from previous customers never got cleared from our table so ended up taking them in ourselves. Not a big deal but they weren't busy at all. Place had a cool vibe once it started to get a little bit busier with a nice space out the front to hang out and chill. Pretty much everyone outside were smoking - atmosphere inside is completely different so outside is where you want to be!

decent spot for a quick pint but music a little on the loud side so if your're fancying a little conversation then stay clear here.

The Big Chill is a great place to go to relax in the evening. There is plenty of seating areas in the bar. The cocktails were great and well priced.

Markets are fun, Spitalfields, Brick Lane and so on. After a few hours you need a break, a pint or whatever. Great selection of cocktails and shots. My pint of Fuller's Black Cab Stout did the trick. Reasonable prices. I have seen a lot cleaner rest rooms, though.

So many of my friends have spoke about this place that when I was in the area and we wanted a drink, I knew we had to go thereIt is a very relaxed place and the vibes inside were nice. This was a work night out, organised by myself... It was the first one I'd done for this company so i was pretty nervous as i'd never been to Big Chill beforeI need not have worried!!The atmosphere was great for a Thursday night, the layout is perfect (we had a really nice sized booth right next to the bar), it's clean and all the staff are amazing with a special shout out to Aneesa who was wonderful. She helped me with every query and even got in a selfie with me after making me a special cocktail which was amazing (I have no ideas what went into it but it was pink and sweet and totally delicious).I cannot recommend this bar enough!

Ventured here after our date at Junkyard Golf - directly opposite. Another quirky venue, was very busy for 4pm so popular with the locals. They didn't have any archers (peach schnapps) which was slightly surprising as I thought all bars have this but didn't matter just had another drink. Lots of different draft beers & ciders to choose from. Loved the fact they had table football available, especially when you get to beat your boyfriend who is a very sore loser. Live DJ had good a mix going whilst we were there. Loved the atmosphere and would definitely come back here.

A group of nine of us dropped in for lunch on a whim. There isn't a huge menu available, basically nachos or toasties. We went with toasties which should have been straight forward. It was one poor lad making all of them one by one on his own on a toastie machine and so it took 50 mins for us all to get our food one by one.This did not make for a very convivial lunch and the toad ties weren't all that anyway. I had th 'crushed avocado with a squeeze of lemon on sourdough' or at least that's what I ordered. What I hit was some cheap tasting guacamole on a bit of hard toast for £4.50. Not great and won't be returning sadly.

Regular drop in as it is super close to the office. The staff are friendly, wine is cold and beer is fizzy, and its always packed as it has a really laid back atmosphere. Definitely worth dropping in.

Went on a Friday night. Waited 15 minutes at the bar not to be served despite the bar not being that busy!! Lots of faffing with the bar staff around the till and then bar man who was dealing with an issue with the customers next to me then moved on to the other end of the bar to start serving someone else!!

Dropped in here for a night out with friends , we didnt intend to stay for long but ended up being here untill 1am. Great music, relaxed vibe, friendly bar staff and a great selection of drinks. I even left my credit card behined and the manager posted it out to me. Would definitely recommend a drink or two in here.

Looking forward to a relaxed Sunday brunch with my family before we caught a train home from King's Cross. We liked the look of the place - it had an industrial shabby chic feel and customers were sitting at 2 or 3 of the other tables. It took a good 10-15 minutes for a member of staff to take our order of drinks and food. We ordered 3 hot drinks and a cold drink and various hot breakfasts. We then waited 30 minutes before1 hot drink and 1 cold drink arrived. There was no eye contact from the staff, no apology for the wait, nor was there any explanation as to when the other drinks were coming. After a further 10 minutes of being ignored and still with only 2 drinks, we decided to leave.

Little expensive but that's London. Always a fun vibe in the bar. Always have a good time when I go! And I'm sure I'll go back!! :)

I am not certain whether this is a good bar to frequent in the evenings but I advise anybody not to go there during the daytime, especially if you want food within 2 hours of entering the premises. My order was taken within 10 mins but was still waiting 45 mins later. The staff seemed disinterested and totally unhelpful.A major disappointment.

Came across here while down Brick Lane and what a find! Not too busy on a Saturday afternoon but that's good as got a seat! Lovely lady barmaid and nice atmosphere! Defo recommend and will go back when in area :-)

I visited this bar for the first time with some friends on a Saturday lunchtime. There was an excellent selection of beers, including Truman's IPA and Mahou, as well as a cocktail list. The atmosphere was pretty chilled, although it was perhaps for a more fashion-conscious crowd than my usual venue - many of the men sported beards and/or hats. The bar staff were friendly, the beer was reasonably priced and cold and there was plenty of seating. The bar is in a little alleyway just after the Truman brewery, so doesn't suffwr from as much street noise as it otherwise would. I give it a big thumbs-up!

My friend booked an area for her birthday, and having paid a London priced deposit we would have expected better service. We had to request the drinks we had pre-ordered a number of times. It is a cool, chilled vibe in here, but I didn't think much of the music so I would say it is best for the start of the night whilst chatting with your friends, and not to stay all night.

Really nice relaxed vibe in this bar. Great music, drinks and really friendly welcoming staff. We only visited on a Saturday afternoon, but reckon it would be great in the evening too.

Their rough, abusive, threatening and nasty security staff threw my female friend to the floor - on leaving their patio- because she walked out holding her drink (in a plastic cup). The security member when confronted be myself and other friends said he'd asked her to leave the cup and she hadn't. She's Spanish and doesn't speak much English, and was extremely upset to be pushed to the ground by a brutish man. When I told him that it was tantamount to physical abuse he made unwanted sexual suggestions to me - in front of my boyfriend- while his other security friends stood and leered. I will NEVER go there again and have told everyone I know the full details. As we left that shouted behind us. Utterly horrendous experience. And my friend doesn't want to visit London again now.

Normal service, Nice area good place to meet new people, nice buzzing atmosphere usually filled with people. Spacious place, nice to hang out or drop by on weekends.

Been to the big chill quite a few times over the years. Always been free and fun. As ever it was super packed. But a good night followed by good food.

Dropped in for a coffee after a meeting in the area. Cheap for London at £2.50 for a cappuccino and very pleasant efficient staff. Clean toilets, trendy location. Will go again.
