Mr. White's English Chophouse in Tower Hamlets

The location is quite hard to find, the food was lovely and could not fault. However the service was shocking waited 30 mins for drinks as my son ordered a mocktail. The guy who served us was very nice and was his first day. The other servers just ignored us. We like good steak restaurants and it was a shame that the drinks let it down.

18 of us went for dinner here on a Thursday night in October 2024 and sadly the service was very slow (over an hour for the food to arrive on a relatively quiet night) and when it did, some people’s steak requests were wrong and generally the food was underwhelming. Portions were on the small size with the fat chips being the highlight. We were also overcharged £83.00 for service on a Bill of £693.00, therefore ended up paying £780.00. We asked for the service to be removed, but apparently this is automatic on large tables and no refund was offered. Disappointed to say the least with no explanation given. Expected a lot better.

Veramente un bel locale situato dietro la reception dell’hotel New Road di Londra, a Whitechapel, tutto accettabile, si mangia bene anche se il servizio è un po’ lento, noi il locale l’abbiamo trovato seguendo le recensioni di alcuni clienti, il menù è abbastanza vario con prezzi consoni alla capitale inglese. Ma la sorpresa arriva alla fine quando c’è il conto da pagare… Abbiamo chiesto durante la nostra cena tre piccoli cesti di pane, per un totale, se esagero, di tre panini. Sullo scontrino che potrete vedere in foto c’è scritto tre panini per un totale di circa 15 £ più il 12,5% di service Charge che sarebbe l’equivalente della nostra Iva. Praticamente circa 17 £ per tre pezzi di pane.ci siamo sentiti purtroppo dei turisti da spennare, difficilmente do recensioni negative come potete vedere nelle mie precedenti ma a questi atteggiamenti di ristoratori che se ne approfittano, non ci sto! Peccato sarebbe andato tutto bene, però ci siamo sentiti truffati, anche perché ovviamente nel menu non c’era nessuna voce che indicava il pane e il suo prezzo. Sicuramente noi non torneremo mai più in questo ristorante, a voi che leggete questa recensione, pensateci bene prima di ordinare del pane.

Had an amazing evening at MPW Chophouse in Whitechapel! 🥂 The steak was perfectly cooked, the sides were delicious, and the vibe was just right. Sunday roast was just on point 🔥🔥 Marco Pierre White knows how to do it! The staff was super friendly, and they made the evening feel extra special with great recommendations. If you’re in London and craving a great meal in a cozy, classy spot, definitely check this place out!

I had a reservation for 9:45 pm booked through their website and when I arrived there, they said that the kitchen closed at 9:30 Even on google maps it says open till 10pm, and their website let me book for 9:45. It was quite disappointing to see that such a well known restaurant with amazing food has such poor reservation management system. Complete waste of time for me. I have been here before and absolutely love the food, but this was a poor experience.

Great experience at Mr White‘s. The food was very delicious. We were a fairly big group and were placed at a separate room! The downside was that the waiters did not see us regularly meaning that we had to sometimes ask for a water / wine refill. The private room was truly separate but also fairly noisy when you start to speak the volume went up pretty quickly.

Lovely food. Good staff and lovely cocktails. We stayed at the hotel above and attended here for dinner. For starters we both had calamari which was lovely. Then we had the signature steak and chips which was also brilliant. Desert was a chocolate hot brownie, I couldn't finish it, it was so rich. Steak wine and sides were all perfect 👌 staff were great. Atmosphere 4 stars because at one point there was some slightly rouge music that came on. The godfather cocktail was superb and is a new favourite

Fabulous food and drinks lovely young guy served us

I visited this location with my family earlier last month whilst on holiday and I was blown away! The steaks were phenomenal and cooked perfectly, and their chocolate brownie was the perfect ending. Our cocktails were also perfectly made and carefully garnished. Server Ana tied our experience together by being consistently welcoming and answered all of our questions. She notified us of their promotion on feeditback where we could get a free dish for next time but we could not find her name on the list. We will certainly be back!

Recently visited this restaurant, very good food and nice atmosphere. I can especially note the pleasant team, very beautiful girls Ana and Nicoleta, service at the highest level. I highly recommend this place for delicious food and cocktails.

Phenomenally tasty food. I was shaking my head with each bite due to the flavours. Service was not to the standard of the food but the food more than made up for it.

Visit was 5pm on Saturday 20 July. We sat down and waited 10 mins before the waiter came ro take the order. He was friendly and polite. We ordered 2 steals , calamari and 2 mocktails. The calamari arrives but no drinks and we finished eating before the drinks arrived. In total we waited 20 mins for 2 mocktails. They apologised and we were not charged for the drinks. Calamari was amazing. We waited another 20mins for the steals. I ordered rare and was given a medium and my wife ordered medium-well and got well done, so both steaks were overcooked but tasted good. There.were no other customers the place was empty so there was no reason for the bad service.

Really good quality steaks and at reasonable prices. Service was great. Foyzur our waiter for the evening made really good recommendations on both meals and drinks, all of which we happily feedback as being exactly what we were hoping for - so his recommendations are spot on! For dessert we ordered the sticky toffee pudding which had a really good balance when all the ice cream, sauce and cake was consumed together. Ambience and atmosphere was really good too. Bonus was they do NHS discount!

Great halal streaks here. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly as I had asked and the sauce was immaculate. Will definitely be coming here again.

Went for lunch with 6 colleagues. Lovely restaurant - very quiet, only 1 or 2 other tables while we were there. We were there most of the afternoon & not rushed. The food was nice, but the service was terrible. We had to ask for the express lunch menu. The drinks took nearly an hour to arrive - we'd already finished our starters by the time they arrived & then mine was still missing. The waiter promised a discount on the drinks due to the slowness. I had calamari - which was okay, trout which was lovely and chocolate brownie - very rich, but good. We'd asked for individual bills - one of my colleagues paid hers and I then realised that I'd been overcharged - £35 for the 3 course express menu instead of £21.95 & no discount for the slow drink service. As my colleague had already paid her bill which we realised was also incorrect, she asked for a refund, only to be told that they can't refund and she was asked to buy something else for the £5.50 they'd overcharged her! In the end, they deducted her overcharged amount from my bill so I could pay her it! As she'd also not received the discount for her drink, she was also asked to buy something for £1, but eventually given a drink. It literally took an hour to sort the bill in total. There wasn't any real apology or explanation for the overcharging.

Regular here at Mr Whites. The staff here are all soo friendly and welcoming, never fail to deliver service with a smile. Shout out to Nikki who always makes us feel at home. The food is also lovely, best steakhouse in the area.

Went there couple nights ago, was aiming for the tomahawk but turns out they didnt have any sharing steaks in hand. So we went for the fillets steak with king prawns. I asked for medium rare and it was nowhere near medium rare, more like medium well😂 the prawns was not fresh at all. The only highlight was the french onion soup. Was a hit and miss i’d say. And the service was quite bad too. The way they hand us the menu was like thrown to us. The manager seems like he doesnt know the menu that well. Just a no for me sorry.

The only reason this gets a 4 is the atmosphere when we went, it was Saturday lunchtime, just after opening. I am sure that if it was later in the day, it would have been buzzing. The staff were great, the food was well prepared, good portion sizes and tasted lovely. They also do a very nice Mojito. We would go back again.

Barts and The London dental alumni dinner excellent food and hospitality. Worth a visit . Staff were brilliant. We were looked after very well.Not easy catering for a big party but they did us proud.

Ordered one tomahawk and one porter house sharing steaks medium rare. The porter house was well done and tangy. Took 50 mins to come out and we were the only customers there. Sides were good and nice location

We ate here on a Globus tour, and the food was delicious. It was English food, but updated. Our group all enjoyed their food.

Dined on a Sunday evening so the restaurant was fairly quiet. Service was prompt and friendly. We were on a voucher which means a set menu. Food was tasty, and portion sizes were good. Basic glass of Prosecco included, nice list of wines by the glass, Location is a bit out of the way but we enjoyed our experience.

We had dinner here as part of a Globus tour. I had the beet salad (it was lacking in flavor and if it had dressing I really couldn’t tell) gnocchi ( bland) and an ice cream flight for dessert which was very tasty. My husband had the chicken with mashed potatoes and enjoyed it along with the ice cream for dessert.

Completely empty at 2pm on a Saturday so no atmosphere. Food nice. Especially recommend the French onion soup. Could for with a bit more goats cheese on the beetroot starter. Obviously cooked to order as we were the only diners. Lovely decor

I don’t usually like to give horrible feedback this took me time to even think about leaving a review, but here goes.. I went with my husband during Ramadan time to try the ramadan set menu out & we was both so disappointed! The starter was not all that, it made me feel like i was going to puke as it was goat cheese, it smelt & it was so overpoweringly strong i had no clue it was gost cheese at first, i had to take it out if my mouth & put it on a tissue. The bread given for that starter was cold sadly. We got our “mocktail” im sorry but that was No mocktail it just tasted like cheap carton juices put together. We then had our main come along we were excited to try the steak, we both asked for medium well done, but my husband steak was full of blood & full of fatty jelly like bits in his steak. He was struggling taking fatty bits out of his mouth i asked him to ask to get it changed he was hesitant in doing so due to anxiety, he then had the courage to ask for it to be changed, when the change of food arrived it looked like they just re cooked his one again & gave it back to him as it looked like it was chopped smaller & was full of fatty jelly bits again. Mine was so hard to chew and to cut into was hard, I have tried all types of steak and all types of cut of steak but this was really terrible. I did not want to cause commotion or scene so i said nothing but gave my bit to my husband to try as his one was worse than mine he also said it was too hard to cut into & too chewy so he didn’t finish it. The chips were decent, sadly they were cold too. The mushroom sauce was triggering my asthma because they added way too much pepper into it even my husband was coughing from it. During the course of eating we was disturbed multiple times by the kids sitting next to our table they were noisy shouting and kept throwing crayons at us the crayons were provided by the restaurant. I had a crayon thrown at me & my husband twice this was making the environment so bad for us, i suffer from anxiety so does my husband, so it made me & my husband very anxious to eat hearing these screaming kids and them throwing crayons at me, the workers saw but said nothing. We came for bit of peace out especially after fasting all day and we had to deal with this, really made us upset. The desserts then came, the eton mess was decent only thing that was actually worth eating on that menu, my husband brownie wasn’t all that sadly. We had to rush eating our dessert because the kids we’re getting on our nerves. I paid in cash came upto £84 it was not worth that price at all, felt like a complete waste of money, my husband was so disappointed & so was I, this was our first ramadan being married & going out to try a “ nice restaurant” but it was terrible, really unhappy both of us were from the food to the environment experience we had it was not nice at all. Horrible experience would not recommend!

So, I went there for an iftar meal. £42 per head starter, main and dessert. Dessert is factory brought as they said. Menu said warm brownie came out cold. Sorry, but the food was not worth the price. Looked all fancy, but mate, I'm there to eat food, not a bunch rabbit food full of rockets. Max that placed deserved was £20-25. If it wasn't for the service would of scored lower.

One of the best dining experiences I have had. Thibout the receptionist was friendly and greeted us warmly. Yamini our waitress was attentive and thoughtful to our needs. The chef Enzo made himself known to us and answered any questions that we had about the food. The restaurant was very clean and the atmosphere was very pleasant.?we could not have been made more welcome by these 3 amazing people. They made an already good dining experience into an amazing experience. I have already recommended the restaurant to several people and will definitely be returning. A little gem tucked away in an area of London that I would otherwise not have visited.

Word of warning if you have a Buyagift voucher and want to spend more money and offset the voucher they refuse to do it because apparently they don’t get the full money from buyagift. Can’t fault the food however the. Fact that my starter came first then olives followed by a bottle of wine. All serviced by inexperienced staff. Sometimes I wonder if the famous owner knows who is representing him. Will need to go back to spend the voucher on the fixed 2 course and glass of pressoco but dread to think how big the burgers will be if they know it’s a voucher………

Second time dining here, and it's really an average restaurant. The price is slightly too much for a restaurant in East London, compared to what you get for the price it makes more sense to go elsewhere. It was fairly quiet and yet the food took close to 45 mins to come out

Very good service by Rofikul and amirah. Food was very good. We ordered chicken Kiev and fish&chips. Chicken was well seasoned and flavoured. The cod was so soft almost melted in the mouth.

The tbone steak was tender, and juicy, tasted excellent, and perfectly cooked. The chips were soft on the inside yet crunchy on the outside. The bluberry cheese cake is mouthwatering, and I haven't seen any other establishment try to reproduce it, even the supermarket. The mocktail was nice. The wife didn't like the brownie since it was too rich. From the food to the service, it was a 5-star experience for me. I really recommend trying this place. Will return in the future for special occasions. Card and cash payments are accepted.

This place has a full halal menu, not many good steak houses are halal. The food was good, well priced and a good range. We had the Tomahawk, Rib eye, Fish & Chips, burger and chicken Kiev. Tomahawk will feed 2 people, if your hungry get some extras like we did. The service was poor, the female manager/waitress who served us made us feel unwelcome. They sell Mocktails (alcohol free)

So i waited so long for this place, but it was full of disappointment. We had calamari for starters., it was tough, not seasoned and quite oily. Then we ordered steak, which we asked for medium but came well done amd again under seasoned. Chicken kiev was all underseasoned. And my prawns were quite tough to. Even the mocktails were tasteless. Ive grown up watching Marco White cook on TV, so was really looking forward to some good food, but this was not the case.

Well, it was okay. (Mainly because in Jan 2024, there was 50% off main courses.) I had the Chicken Kiev. Peas fine, chips excellent, roast toms not at all tasty (cheapest in the local supermarket?), Chicken? yes, the key ingredient. Sorry, meh. The fried crust was just too thick. Frankly, KFC is better at the crust on fried chicken. Also, where was the garlic??

Dined here Saturday night with a group food was delicious especially the steaks very well cooked and desserts were very nice too it’s a shame about the service one waiter for the whole restaurant Monsur he was very nice shame about the other waitresss Carmen she had attitude and was very dismissive Would come back for the food they should improve on the service very slow and not enough staff

The food was lovely, however the service was a real letdown. Cannot believe how rude the staff are! Some staff really let the restaurant down! Carmen in particular was rude, passive aggressive acted like she did not want to serve us, had a face on her the whole time and has no customer service skills. When I spoke to the manager Carolina about an overcharge on our bill she was also rude at first didn’t apologise and told us it was our fault. If it wasn’t for Monsur I would’ve given them a much worse rating however he was very nice and friendly, It’s a real shame because if it wasn’t for some of the staff here this is somewhere I would have returned as the food was very nice. Based on the service I would not come back and would not recommend. Sort out your staff and sort out your service!

My mum and I had lunch here today for my mum's birthday & had the set menu. What made the experience so enjoyable was the friendly, attentive staff. A special thanks to Cristina & Mustafizur for your excellent customer service.

Really great steak. It wasn't as expensive as I was expecting, and the cocktails and sauces were also great. If you want a good steak and are willing to pay a little extra, it's a good meal.

Had dinner here with the family, the grass-fed beef steak was on point, we had it medium cooked, the sauce that came with it was so delicious and buttery, the prawns were a delight and the steak chips were heavenly. My siblings had fish and chips, they really loved it and weren't expecting the mashed peas to be so good. Service was so great and we were greeted with a smile. The atmosphere of the place is very calm and beautiful. I really recommend this place!

Halal steakhouse with great ambience!

The best halal steaks I have ever tasted. Highly recommend the rib eye. A little bit on the pricey side. It costs us just over £40 per person.

Vi spiste her til nytår, og forventede en lækker nytåsmenu. Taget i betragtning at vi betalte 1000 kr. pr. Person, synes vi ikke det var for meget at forlange. Men maden var langt under middel! Virkelig en skuffende oplevelse… vi forventede et lækkert professionelt køkken, men det virkede mere som et måltid du kunne servere i enhver kantine… Vi boede på hotellet og havde også fornøjelsen af deres morgenmad. Her igen en meget skuffende oplevelse… virkede som en ret du kunne have hevet ud af microovnen… Det er bestemt ikke at anbefalde at spise her! Helt ekstremt skuffende køkken…

Went out to try my first halal turkey dinner with the family Although I pre ordered online and phone the staff got the order wrong The manager was most inexperienced and rude and instead of apologising, she accused me of making a mistake on my pre order and walked off in the middle of the conversation! I didn’t even wait for dessert having paid for the 3 course meal as I was so upset at being accused of lying They still charged full price for 4 meals I would never go back

I had multiple occasions to eat dinner at the Chophouse. The food is simple (not much choice) but good. There is a bit of everything. The staff was really friendly. From the waiter/waitress to the manager, everybody (bilingual) spoke with us and made us feel welcome 🙏🏽 . I really appreciated that. Would recommend this place, especially if you are around Whitechappel.

Absolute perfection the food and service is the best I've ever experienced. (I've been to alot of places.) The chefs enzo and hamza were amazing . also mariam was amazing couldn't be more helpful this place is a goldmine . Beds super comfortable all round excellent stay .

This is our sixth time we went to this chophouse in whitechapel. We got the best customer service so far including maryam, rafiqul and carmen. They took great care of us. We had t bone steak made by chef hamza was super super delicious. Love u guys.

We had a delicious Sunday lunch here. The lamb and beef were both lovely. I highly recommend the Whitebait to start too. The goats cheese salad and ribeye steak were also good picks. Great atmosphere and service.

Terrible terrible terrible food. With a Christmas menu I never really expect much because in my experience restaurants are trying to mass produce the same couple of choices in order to get more and more covers in and out. The 2023 Christmas menu was exactly as I expected. A Salmon starter that could’ve been knocked up at home, a Chicken main which was ok but nothing more, yet my colleagues experienced the usual watery gravy and cold turkey but with the added bonus of uncooked carrots. Now, I know overcooked veg is probably worse, but these carrots were a small touch over RAW. Desserts were ok, but certainly no better than that. The only good thing about the whole experience was the staff. Lovely, friendly and attentive. We probably could’ve/should’ve complained or sent the food back, but who wants to do that at a team get-together? For the price we paid I’d say it was diabolical.

We went for lunch, despite there being more staff than guests (7 customers) we waited 15 mins for our drinks to arrive then another member of our group arrived and waited 20 mins for his. No apology. Then we made the mistake of ordering wine to have with our steak unfortunately it arrived as I took my last bite. Again no apology, they didn't seem to care. I'm amazed by how poor the service was. I can't imagine how it gets when it's actually busy. I'd spend my money at one of the numerous other steak restaurants where you will receive great service.

The highlight is definitely the steak and the FANTASTIC service by staff! The food was absolutely delicious, and prepared with care and attention and just delicious 😋 The staff went above and beyond by offering mustard in a small ramekin and the individual ketchup and mayonnaise is a BEAUTIFUL touch! atmosphere is amazing too and the decor is fantastic!

How does this place not have 5/5 star rating! The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were super friendly. I came on a Saturday with a group of 15 and were treated with soo much love and attention. The atmosphere was lovely and just perfect! Definitely a place I’d recommend everyone to go to and will be coming back again. Thank you to the lovely team, you guys were amazing!

We enjoyed an excellent steak and burger at this restaurant on a rainy Thursday night. Fries were also plump and crisp, and there was an excellent selection of accessibly-priced red wines. That said, the service was apathetic and confused; in fact, we had no idea who our server was. The person who seated us would come back from time to time, and then another person would drop by to take our order, and then there was a third person we also saw. The team seemed to require the kind hand of a good restaurant manager. Otherwise a very good meal.

Came here quite late, after I checked in. Did not expect such a great restaurant here too. Flavours are fully balanced and there is a great variety of dishes. Would surely recommend the autumn menu swordfish.

Lovely meal here this evening and I will be trying the breakfast menu at some point as it looked fab !

It was a Christmas gift from my granddaughter. A bit late going as goes to uni. Just walking through the door, we were greeted and with a smile. My granddaughter told them we were there for lunch. It's a very nice restaurant, and we could sit anywhere we wanted to.The waitresses h nice and pleasant and also friendly . I had a Beetroot and goat cheese salad starter, and the mains was Butcher steak, chips, tomatoes,Chef even changed the peppered sauce without any hesitation, Dessert sticky toffee pudding. It's absolutely a delicious meal. With a bottle of Lavender Hill, rose wine included. Will be going back, and l will highly recommend this restaurant, which turns out to be a hotel and coffee shop. A very good experience.

I am eating dairy free due to an intense allergy for many years. Although the service person was forthcoming, the available food selection was more than minimal and the kitchen inflexible in today‘s day and age as well as in a cosmopolitan city like London..we walked out of the restaurant, hungry!

I was very disappointed with the food here i mean if your gonna pay £49 for a fillet you expect it to be cooked properly but no it was well done hard and chewy when in the pre booking i selected medium rare, as was the case with the rest of the members of the party i get it it was a big group and the staff was trying to get everything out all at once but sadly majority of us got a welldone steak and the fish n chips which my mum ordered ended up getting food poisoning from it the very same day which isnt nice to watch your mum vomiting in pain. Only positive was the waiting staff they was excellent they made a huge effort to sort out any issues very friendly and we didnt catch her name but she really was a star in looking after us all she even made a little plate of pastry treats for my cousin brothers birthday but sadly the food was a let down.
