6 of us ordered a takeaway and generally it was very nice. I’ve see reviews were people say the food is bland. I don’t particularly like very spicy food, so enjoyed what I had which was chicken tikka pathia. Deliver was slow, but the food was hot and well presented

Superb food Great service The only place to eat in Withernsea This is a must. The menu is huge and reflects the traditional feel of the restaurant All the favourites and loads more. Good portion sizes too

Food was fabulous, although being visitors to the area we did not know they did not have a liquor licence so needed to dash to Aldi to buy some wine. Service was great. Would recommend.

The food was very good and large portion size s. The staff were very helpful, pleasant and friendly . They do not serve alcohol but you can bring your own without any corkage charge.

Had a takeaway for three this evening, this was the best takeaway that the family have had for years. Plenty of flavour, plenty to eat and everything cooked to perfection, will definitely use them again.

We were in Withernsea and had a couple of recommendations for the restaurant. The staff were extremely attentive, with the manager making excellent recommendations to try instead of what we would usually eat. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.

Absolute disaster, turned up for time table was booked for, had to wait outside as the entrance was blocked with people waiting for takeaways our table was not ready! Most customers where complaining they'd been sat 45 minutes & not even offered a menu. The phone was ringing none stop with customers wanting to know where their delivery order's had got to. One family sat in the window where surrounded by customers waiting for take out food & said they'd been there 30 minutes & no one had been to their table. It was quite obvious they'd bitten off more than they could chew & this is happening quite a lot, you will lose customers if you don't get this sorted, no one wants to be sat down for a meal surrounded by customers waiting & the door constantly open. As for the food couldn't say as we walked out. Think greed has taken over what used to be a welcoming well respected restaurant.

There's a 'secret' minimum spend of £25 required for the waiter to take an order. We didn't have an appetite to order more but were nudged to order more - just felt sorry for the beseeching waiter so we obliged. Food was ok. As we were passing by, this experience will be forgotten, but new customers: be aware.

Went in mid-morning on a whim as we liked the quirky premise of a coffee shop with an Indian twist. The coffee itself was excellent and the food (chapli plate and shami plate) was delicious and a lovely change from the usual seaside fayre of fish and chips. The service was very pleasant and polite. Sadly we were only passing through as I wouldn't hesitate to visit here again.

Booked in for 5.30 order at 5.40 starters out at 5.50 took starters away at 6.00 main course out at 6.03 meal finished at 6.20 felt I was in a fast foot outlet, £12.95 for a chicken dish which consisted of 5 medium pieces. I was asked if everything was ok I said we have been rushed I was informed that they have two sittings in a Saturday and they needed to turn the tables round quickly, a very disappointing experience never again

Ordered a delivery and 2 items were missing. The delivery driver knew more than the restaurant. They redelivered the missing items then proceeded to charge us even though they admitted it was their error. The food was disgusting, inedible. Chicken tikka tasted like boiled overcooked chicken. Lamb dish was tough, 4 pieces of lamb and extremely fatty. Would not recommend this Indian. Even the dog didn't eat it.

For a different lunchtime experience, I would definitely recommend a visit. The calcus plate was wonderful, full of flavour and good value for money.

Ordered a takeaway, was told an hour and 20 mins for delivery. It was delivered 2 hours later after several phone calls, people had left who were having the meal as it was after 10pm it arrived. Agreed for a full refund with one member of staff however, driver refused and only gave partial refund. Food wasn't warm when it arrived and after several calls back to the restaurant the issue was still not resolved.

This is the second time we have visited the Bengal Lancer, both times didn’t disappoint. It was really had to chose from the extensive menu. But Myself and daughter decided on the chicken chat pury for starter and the chicken Nixon special of our main course which was delicious and we would both highly recommend both dishes. One of my daughters didn’t fancy an Indian so ordered one of the English dishes which she really enjoyed. The restaurant is really lovely and all the staff are very friendly too.

What a load of old crap! The staff were so incredibly arrogant and non accommodating it’s ridiculous. Shrugging their shoulders when we said we didn’t enjoy the food. Very cheap flavourless excuse of an Indian restraunt. Chicken tikka starter had absolutely no flavour whatsoever , the blandest I’ve ever had in my life, chicken korma had tikka chicken in, 4 pieces of chicken for £12. Which was wet. Rice was soggy and bland, we asked for tap water and was given bottled water , which cost £3.50 a bottle. Asked us as soon as we got seated if we would like poppadoms, we said yes please, suspecting they were free. Asked us how many we would like , we said 2, to which they brought out 4, with dips. Where upon paying they charged us £7.80 , for what?!?! It’s a poor excuse of an Indian. Dead Flies all over the walls , staff just so not bothered. Not once asked if the food was ok. We seemed like a nuisance to them. Nearly £80 wasted for us to all have a dicky tummy, and coming out starving. Shouting at their staff in a restraunt. I’ve had better out of date microwave meals … I will never return and I don’t know where all of these good reviews have come from as it certainly isn’t good whatsoever. Never ever again.

Wow where do I start, I definitely wouldn’t call this an Indian, the food was very bland and small portions for what they charge you, was very disappointed in this to say the least, not the quickest either, very un professional waiters/staff, I will not be returning that is for sure, people who say this is the best haven’t experienced what a good Indian is!!!

Great food and great service. We ordered twice while on holiday for collection and both times food was ready on time and hot and very tasty. Staff very pleasant and helpful. They do get busy so order in plenty of time. We ordered as soon as they opened at 5.30pm and it was ready 45mins later.

We visited the Bengal Lancer as a large group of family and friends in August 2023 in the early evening. Having nipped in for a menu during the day, the cafe staff were lovely and helpful (during the day it’s a cafe too). We returned the next evening and we’re seated straight away. Location - on the main Withernsea High street a few yards down from the two mini roundabouts. Easy to find and located about a hundred yards from Aldi, which is really handy as they don’t serve alcohol, so we nipped in to Aldi, purchased our evenings refreshments and saved a fortune. The interior - Not eye smackingly attractive but it was upkept and clean. In fairness the High Street building is long and thin so that brings its own unique issues for a restaurant layout. The staff were friendly and well turned out too which gives extra confidence in the place and food. Food- I ordered the Chilli Chicken Masala as well as other sundries. It was one of the best I’ve had in all honesty. They hadn’t just given me chicken lumps in a hot sauce like some places, but it was an actual curry, had all the right spices and looking at the rest of the food it appears they had taken some pride in what was served. The price was reasonable also. Overall - Do you know, I was going to give it four stars as it could have been spruced up a little more interior and exterior wise. However, having been in the area a few days, the standard of this place is very high compared to the other places in the area. I noted that they have invested in advertising at numerous locations in and around Withernsea. Also I found it difficult to fault anything. Great service. Great food. I would definitely return. Before we sat down the head guy (owner - HG) was asking if we wanted popodoms - understandable (maybe) if it was packed before we'd had any time to settle - but there were few others there! Felt quite uncomfortable asking to be left alone to be seated ourselves first. We had to set our own table, as nothing was set out. Then once we had come to a decision on the meal, HG arrived to take the order. No alcohol on the premises, so had to pop down to a shop. Then I asked for a Vindaloo (which I'm well used to and enjoy) and began getting cross-examined about where I lived (the Midlands) and did I know it was hot. Thank God I didn't ask for the Phall on the menu which was there. Quite patronising. The vibe wasn't good, with the attitude of HG towards the (female) staff. When the meals arrived - the kids' chicken nuggets weren't that - just breaded chicken steaks cut into pieces. The keema naan was all naan and no meat. All in all - a lacklustre and disappointing experience.

The what I assume to be the manager handed me menus and asked when the rest of the party would arrive and that we needed to hurry up and order because our table was booked out again at 7pm. I knew the other half of the table was 2 inutesaway but this annoyed me a bit because we were early. I told the manager we would be well gone by 7pm easy. Drinks were ordered and poppadoms with chutney treay was brought out at the same time as the rest of the party arrived. At the point the restaurant was filled to capacity.We quickly made our minds up and decided we didn't want starters due to been in a rush and ordered the following.3 chicken Kormas Tikka massala Tandoori mixed grillAnd 2 children's mealsThe manager came to us to take our order 4 times but kept getting pulled away which was a bit annoying when he was there who said we needed to hurry.The food came within 15 minutes and it did not disappoint. Went last night for a meal, the waiter put the rice down on table for my husband and nearly threw it at him, the waiters need some customer service skills, food was ok, but some orders wrong. I would not return unless they got different friendly staff. We also waiting a while for our main courses.

Just had a fabulous meal at the Bengal Lancer! We’re from Leeds so have a plentiful choice of excellent curries. This place was just as good, if not better than what we’re used to. Safi was very attentive and was happy to advise us on what he thought we might like. Would definitely recommend.

We've ordered from Bengal Lancer several times and I should have left a positive review before now. I've just received my takeaway order tonight, the 2nd takeaway I've had in lock down. What a treat! The food always arrives piping hot, it's absolutely amazing and as a bonus, the customer service is excellent! A special shout out to Safi, what a fantastic member of the team. Rang for a delivery, told withing the hour it would be delivered. 1 and a half hour later it came, it was all stone cold, and part of order missing. Rang to ask them to send the missing bit and told it would come. Half hour later still nothing so rang again and told they are to busy and no staff so will give me it next time instead. Explained I had left my food until it was all there so I could eat everything together so now it's all colder than it already was, another half hour has passed and I'm still waiting. I've had it in the past and couldn't fault it but today the service is just not great.

We just ordered £43.50 worth of food to sand le mare holiday park. The food was practically inedible, chicken madras was raw, straight in the bin, karahi mixed grill was that overcooked the lamb was rock solid. Chicken karahi swimming in fat around a sauce which was over done so had dried up around the chicken. 2 seekh kebabs were okay but, they are half decent from the supermarket. Absolutely vile food. Will never order from here again. Spoilt a good weekend away.

Absolutely amazing food, great service and friendly atmosphere. The head chef Ali particularly stood out with his advice and attentiveness for the dishes we ordered, explaining exactly what ingredients would be added and paying attention to our requests of flavour and heat of our dishes. Fantastic meal. Would definitely revisit!!

We went a few days early for our valentines meal. Very friendly service, the waiters gave us advice and were very attentive to our every need. Popadom and pickles before a two course meal, everything was excellent. The restaurant had been decorated since our last visit, it looked fabulous with red flowers on tables and lit candles. We will definitely be going back soon.
