Having read the mixed reviews we thought we would give it a try. The interior is so clean and decorated lovely. We were given a warm welcome by the friendly staff. My husband had the Gammon, egg & chips which was well cooked and he thoroughly enjoyed. I had the small fish & chips which was such a good size portion I couldn't eat it all. The fish was white and meaty and the batter very crispy. They are dog friendly and had a treat for our dog Barney. PLEASE ignore the negative reviews because The Belle Vue is under new managment who have only been in 8 weeks. They are trying to rebuild the damaged reputation from previous owners. I'm just sorry that we are on holiday and this is not our local oub back home

We had an outstanding dinner! Juicy Steak & Ale pie and Chicken, Bacon and Leek Pie, best mashed potatoes we had for a long time and vegetables with ‚a bite‘. Just enjoyable!

Meal was very nice. Good value for money. Not very busy but hopefully with new owners it will pick up. At the moment closes at 9 pm which was a little early for us, so hopefully it will start to open later.

We did have to wait a while for the food, but it was worth it. The staff and the place are great. We will definitely be going back.

Came for Sunday lunch with my mother who lives in the village. Staff were friendly, efficient and welcoming and were quick to bring our drinks. We all had a roast and it was interesting to see that this came in three sizes- my mum had the small, I had the normal size and my husband tackled the extra large! All very good and plenty of nice, fresh vegetables. Delicious apple and bramble crumble cake to follow. Bar staff kept a quiet eye on how we were getting on and checked if we needed anything else and if we had enjoyed our food. One suggestion - maybe a few other main course options on a Sunday other than the roast, if possible. Thank you for a very pleasant meal.

The Belle View pub has recently got new owners so living in the village we were eager to pay it a visit. Going in only 1 hour after its opening could have been risky but the welcome we received was warm and friendly and we were very happy with all aspects of our meal. The menu was varied and the food as cooked fresh to order. I had fish and chips and the batter was lovely. Not too thick and no hint of grease. Husband had the ham hock which was tender and flavoursome. Looks like the pub which has always been well loved by its locals is back to doing what it does best. Pay a visit, we will definitely come back again.

Don't bother. It's,trading on reputation of previous owners but nowhere near same quality. Lunchtime offers of light bites, small portions. I had steak pie but what came was a chip shop style pie that had sloppy mince inside. Hubby had main menu steal & ale pie that was nice, but not worth £17!!!! Desserts are supermarket offerings my sticky toffee pudding was a steam pudding style, definitely not home made. Shame ..thus used to be a dead cert for food.... not now sorry 😐

Plenty of parking space opposite the pub which was a plus for us. We can only presume that today the chef had a bad day in the kitchen. This is the first time I have seen Leek and Potato soup served where the contents actually stand proud in the soup dish. It really looked as if it was puréed veg that was waiting for the stock and cream/ milk to be added , but hadn’t!! I think we were all a bit shocked at the appearance of it. I ordered a Brie and Bacon Pannini which actually came with melted cheddar not Brie. The chips were brown, as others have stated. There was no slaw on the salad which was another error. I can only assume that there was a problem in the kitchen as no excuse for such basic errors.

The three of us enjoyed our tasty Sunday roasts (beef x2 and gammon) . Yorkshire puds were cooked to perfection and the gravy was divine. Plenty of horseradish sauce to accompany the beef which always works for me! The veg was a little ‘al dente’ for me but a good selection. Puds were beautiful - probably the best cheesecake I have ever tasted. Service was spot on - very friendly and relaxed. Mum and I are slow eaters and we were never rushed to finish our meal. Will definitely be back - the rest of the menu looks promising too.

DISGUSTED. I had what should of been a Lamb Henry. It came with no juices or stock of mint. It was bone dry the outer was so dry you could not cut it with your knife. Our guests had the steak pie, which they said was good, but the chips were brown and disgusting. Like they had been cooked in dirty oil. We have been coming to Belle Vue for 2/3 years. This is the first time we have been served such a disgusting meal. If we had not been with guests, the whole order would have been sent back. Our dogs enjoyed their supper though. We will give the pub a miss in future

Went for Sunday lunch. We wanted to have a nice festive turkey roast. The food was just ok. The place was cold. Hardly any Christmas decorations. The carrots, green beans and parsnips were obviously frozen. Turkey was tasteless. Service not great Definitely not worth £15.95 for a roast

Fantastic stop off for Sunday lunch. We hadn’t booked but were made very welcome by friendly staff. Table service was well managed and attentive. Hearty & plentiful Sunday roasts full of flavour. Both the pork and beef tender and well presented. All in all highly recommended.

The Bellevue is very much open! After a month or so of being closed. Went for Sunday lunch on 22 October. We all very much enjoyed our food. The portions are plentiful but not absolutely ridiculous like they were a few years ago. The pub still remains a very nice venue. All of us left very happy & we all agreed that we would return. Many thanks for a lovely lunch.

My friend and I called in here whilst in Wigton and had a bacon buttie and a barista butties both of which were delicious and cooked perfectly. I had a latte which was lovely and my friendcsaid her cappuccino was one if the vest she'd had. The staff were so helpful and friendly and we will definitely return.

We stayed here for 2 nights and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The rooms are large, bright with some spectacular views and those special touches such as little toiletries for your use. The bath in our room was so opulent I could have stayed in there all evening. The dining area is quite niche you can have quiet discreet corners for a romantic evening or more open. The food is excellent- if I had 1 thing to say that was negative, it would be that I wouldn’t have a starter so I could have a dessert, I found each time I did I just didn’t have room to have one! The main thing for me was the staff. The staff quite simply made it for me. NOTHING was too much trouble, they were friendly, welcoming and went above and beyond , yet at the same time let us be. If you want somewhere, where you can be comfortable, away from it all and have excellent accommodation and food this is the place.

Sad to say that our trip there was a a big disappointment when it come to the food. We all had beef, it was dry and chewy. When we talked to the waiter, we have been told that is the way the chef does it. It is a shame that they only sell well done cuts of meat...

My wife and I went for a trip to Lowther Castle and Gardens with the in-laws, and after such awful weather we decided to travel to Cockermouth to treat ourselves to the excellent Fredricks which we've visited many times before. We started with the seafood platter / selection with a portion of chips for the young one. It's a great selection of items for fish lovers! After, we ordered some lovely main dishes, enough for 3 adults and 2 kids (1 kids meal of pizza and chips!) Lovely meal to end of evening. Will be back when next in the area.
