For many years the Bell was our local, a proper country pub. Just great to have new owners who have brought it back to being , simply a great village pub. We popped in for lunch. Excellent , reasonably priced menu , really friendly service . It deserves local support . Great to hear that the villagers are coming back AND even the Open Mic is back on first Sunday of the month. It used to be a great night. Support your local. This pub and the team behind it now, deserve it.

Fantastic to have The Bell open again with new management . An impressive choice of well kept real ales for the discerning beer drinker and some good wines with lovely customer service . Food last night was off the Plat du Jour menu , 3 courses of quality ingredients beautifully cooked and presented . Always satisfying when eating out to be given a plate of food that’s better than home cooking and the chicken main course would have been a credit to a high end restaurant . Thanks to Neil , Harry , Daniel and chef. Big recommend.

Went for lunch. We were the only people there and everything was looking rather run-down. (The garden used to be very pretty.) A single menu was produced: hand-written when we arrived (we had booked!) with no prices and a very limited choice of basics (eg, ham, eggs and chips). Waitress apologised for delay in bringing food as the chef had "broken his hand" that morning. The food was awful. The chips were burnt and inedible. The ham was just a slice of ham straight from a packet. It was served with some limp salad leaves totally smothered in Balsamic vinegar. Such a pity. This used to be one of our favourite pubs in the area. Now under new ownership. We won't be going back.

We have visited this quiant pub lots of times pre covid, due to this and moving house we haven't been lately Decided to make the journey and come for Sunday dinner, On arrival we were shocked at the state of the lovely garden, dead flowers and very run down, used to be gorgeous rose bushes and lovely flowers Went into the restaurant, which was completely empty, and cold atmosphere. We had pre booked a lamb roast the night before. The girl came to take our drinks order, I asked what was happening with the pub. She said they were having problems and it was just her and the chef running the place 🤔 The dinner came within 5 minutes, it was swimming in gravy and very un appitizing. I asked if she could send it back and relate without the swimming pool of gravy. By the time it came back the veg in the dish was cold. The lamb was very tough and fatty Nothing was nice. She did not come and ask if everything was ok We left the table, went to pay at the bar and she casually asked if all was ok I told her honestly No it wasn't, and explained why. All she said was 'sorry about that' The bill was the full amount, didn't offer to even knock £5 off. I don't mind paying for good food, my hubby is a chef and knows how hard it is But £ 14 each for a terrible dinner is just not on! Needless to say we will not be back. 😞

A group of 6 of us went last night for a Birthday meal. It all seemed quite disorganised from the beginning, no one brought menus, the girl behind the bar kept forgetting the drinks we ordered. After our food was ordered we waited...and waited...and waited. Food took well over an hour to arrive, and when it did, looked more like greasy spoon food than gastropub. The first 4 meals arrived but mine and the person whose Birthday it was had to wait another 15 and 25 minutes for ours. I had ordered the pork belly was the burnt underneath, overcooked and with just a huge piece of pork and mash on the plate, no veg or greens in sight. After complaining (and the girl behind the bar agreeing that the food was rubbish and they were getting rid of the chef!), a man we assumed was in charge came over only to tell us he owned his own pubs (later this changed to him saying he was there to paint the pub). This made the whole situation worse as he asked what was wrong and was quite defensive. He then disappeared to talk to the chef. He did not come back but was hanging around the bar when we went to pay. We ended up not paying for any of our food (this was not offered, we just told them that was what we were doing). We were told the owners weren't there. The poor girl behind the bar was upset and I can't blame her- the owners decided to try to keep the pub going while away with staff who were wag out of their depth- they clearly didn't care about customer satisfaction. The pub is in a beautiful but we would never go again! Completely ruined my friend's Birthday!

We went with friends recently and had a lovely evening as we hadn’t seen them for ages. However the food was ridiculously expensive which actually spoilt it for us. There were only 6 choices on the menu, as I don’t like fish I quite often go for steak but this was £35 for sirloin, not even fillet. Our favourite place to eat has built a wonderful reputation after 11 years and still only charges £26 for fillet steak. The food was tasty and the service was good but at just under £200 for 4 without even a bottle of wine on the bill we won’t be going again.

The last time we visited The Bell it was high summer. Now it’s definitely Autumn, and the menu reflected that with delicious, seasonal fresh produce. We loved the mushroom arancini starter, also the mushroom espuma with the 62 degree egg. Mains of halibut with cockles and a seafood bisque, and the seared bass with a mustard crust were spot on. Very good wine recommendation, service attentive and friendly. What’s not to like?

This village pub has for many years provided good food and surroundings. A recent change of landlord necessitated a visit with friends for an evening meal. It got off to a shaky start as the staff could not locate the booking and suggested that we had booked at a similarly named pub in a different village. Having lived here for 4 decades we pointed out that this was not the case!! A table was found and the service was OK if a little ‘laid back’. The menu choice was limited which is usually a good omen and the quality of food was excellent. The wine list is extensive and varied. There are plenty of beer and cider choices at the bar. The Bell is now on the ‘more expensive’ list with a steak at £35 but for a special meal offering high quality well presented food it is definitely on the ‘should try’ list.

Made a booking for Sunday Lunch. The pub looks spotless, and apparently recently decorated. We were welcomed, and asked to give a contact name and number. Gel was at hand and we were shown to our table. The menu was varied , but we plumbed for a delicious fish starter that I had not tried before. Onto the mains, we had one roast beef, and one slow cooked lamb. The beef was lovely, but the lamb exceeded...very tender and tasty, both accompanied by delicious veg, with a twist. There was still just enough room for a pudding each.We felt very safe in the way the restaurant was laid out, and table service was very respectable. There were some lovely beers and wine, and the rhubarb gin with ginger ale went down nicely as we went to sit in the beautiful garden.I was pleasantly surprised with the bill, great value for money considering the quality of the food and drinks . We last visited in August 2018, when the present regime had just started. They are now settled in and present a welcoming ambience with basic pub fare and evidence that whoever is in the kitchen knows what they are doing and cares about it. When ‘pie of the day’ is a generous slice of a real pie rather than an individual offering out of freezer and microwave there is reason for optimism and it did not prove misplaced! The beer was not from the local brewery this time, but there was a choice of three on the handpump. The Bell really is what a village pub should be, and worth going back to.

The decor and furnishings did not have the previous atmosphere not helped by the place being practically empty. The ploughman’s lunch was fine but the baked Camembert was a disaster - the first offering was lumpy rather like scrambled eggs which we returned. The next offering was hardly any better and we barely touched it. The reason given was that they could not cook it any longer as they didn’t want to keep us waiting.

It is always hard to find somewhere for a midweek lunch and we have been to The Bell before, with satisfying results. We found that the current team has only been in place for three weeks and no chef yet, so 'mine host' was cooking a limited lunch menu of lighter stuff. I had a burger and my companions 'Sloppy Joes', which 'mine hostess' said she had experienced in America and wants to introduce here: basically bolognese sauce in a bun; with a side salad. It was all very good and we were impressed with the friendly welcome and openness, plus a goodbye out of the kitchen window as we were leaving. We certainly wish them well and hope to go back when they have got going properly.

We had heard good things about this restaurant but were sadly disappointed. The furniture was sticky and looked out of keeping with the building and there was loud dance music playing all evening creating a very odd atmosphere in this quaint country pub! The staff were friendly but very slow, the food sounded great on the menu but fell well short of expectations. It was greasy and low quality yet highly priced, we waited an hour for our main meal and both meals arrived over cooked. There were lines of brightly coloured salt on two plates which was frankly bizarre and we decided to give up and picked up a dessert from a supermarket on our way home instead! This could be a beautiful pub, such potential, but we won't be returning for food any time soon.

We received a warm welcome when we arrived for an evening meal which, having read the menu on the website, we were looking forward to. The waiter who brought the menus told us what the pie and burger of the week was but did not mention the specials board which had the lasagne that I wanted. My husband ordered the fish and chips. The fish was good but the plate was smothered in salt which eventually spread onto all the food. The tartar sauce left a lot to be desired. My lasagne came with skinny chips but these had been pre-salted - again very unpleasant. There was no wine list so although the waiter told us what was available we were not given the costs. Having finished our meals we tried to catch the waiter’s eye to order coffee. We wished we hadn’t - it was half a cup of the worst coffee we had tasted. Finally, we went to pay but no itemised bill and no receipt as they were having problems with the internet. A receipt was promised by email but has not arrived yet.

Why not tell us when handed the menu that some of the menu would be off. Main meals ordered, when they came out all six were cold and had to be returned, then meals reheated and not recreated fresh. Very disappointed chef obviously not bothered about the quality of the food or impressing the customer. Sweet menu had only three options.. A pathetic choice really.

After a couple of false starts the new menu at the Bell has at last got it right with an interesting and inventive selection of starters and mains which are decent value.

Went to the Bell Inn for lunch Friday 15th December with my wife & daughter, and we had a dreadful dining experience. I ordered 'Fish & Chips' off the specials board and was assured by the staff that it was being freshly prepared. The fish had not been cooked through and was raw in the centre, the chips had not been fully cooked and were hard. I complained and they offered to replace the meal straight away. This time the fish was edible, but the chips were still hard and the mushy peas were cold! Both my wife and my daughter had 'Sea Bass with wilted Greens' which came as a small portion of Bass with string beans, covered in a thick tomato based sauce. Both my wife and daughter picked at the fish and left the rest of this extremely bland meal as it was inedible! I complained and was offered £6.50 off the bill which came to £44! I would definitely not eat at The Bell again and suggest you don't either!

What has happened to The Bell Inn? We always looked forward to visiting for an evening meal whilst staying with our daughter. This lovely village inn had a welcoming warm feel to it and the food was always excellent. This has all changed, stark lighting, cafe style tables and food very disappointing. Will not return.

Having visited many times with family and friends it is with sadness that a wonderful pub, full of charm, excellent food and welcoming atmosphere has disappeared to become a stark, characterless environment serving tasteless bland food from a limited menu. A place which use to be fully booked on a Saturday night with an extensive menu of super tasting food is now lack lustre with the tables, lighting, artwork and staff somewhat poorly designed. Sadly we will not be returning and what was a fantastic establishment will be sorely missed.

By no means whatsoever is the food bad. I have visited twice in the last month and the first time I had a great pie. The second time I had pigeon to start which was poor. The main was OK. The roses in the summer are something to behold and if I lived closer to this place I would be a local despite being underwhelmed with the grub. All in all, don't rule this place out, but just don't have super high expectations about the food.

Whilst the exterior retains much of it's village charm, the interior has very little. A good range of beers on offer, albeit at significantly increased prices, but the menu seems to lack any inspiration.

Visited with a friend as I'd won a meal for 2 that the pub had donated to a charity raffle. Even though it's just a few minutes from where I live, I'd never been before. The new owners of done a great job refurbing the place and the furniture was contemporary nut the character of am olde worlde pub has been retained. It has a very relaxed air to it and the experience was unhurried. Staff were friendly and attentive bit and the food was excellent. Tje menu wasn't all gastro pub-esque. More like traditional pub grub but cooked and prepared with finesse rather than microwaved like in a w for a tenner place! Even the car park was tidy and there were lots of lovely floral displays outside. Nice work indeed. Will definitely be visiting again.

We had read the mixed reviews before our visit and were hoping that the bad ones were down to people not liking 21st century villsge pubs.Unfortunately this was not the case. The pub is in a lovely location with a nice garden and good decor. We arrived and were seated with one menu between 4 and told they needed to photocopy more for us! We laughed this off. Ordered our starters and mains from a simple menu that offered enough variety. Starters arrived and were good. Mains arrived at least 40mins later after our startes were cleared away. The mains looked good hiwever, all chips on all plates were cold. And i mean cold! Peas were cold, the butter on top of them had no chance of melting. We requested hot chips which came after about 10mins but by then everything was cold other than the new chips!!! Eventually the plates were cleared and that was it. No one came to us again and no offer of dessert. At no point did anyone ask if we were ok, they were far to busy having a chat behind the bar.A real shame as it is a lovely pub which could be fab. We will not be back though.

Oh my goodness!! What on earth has happened to one of our favourite restaurants? The Bell at East Langton had it all. High standards, excellent food, lovely surroundings and the splendid Henry looking after us.Oh my goodness.....on our recent visit...lack in standard of food and service, lack of atmosphere, and on the evening we visited no Henry.Don't suppose for a moment this will bother the new owners...but we won't be calling again.Oh my Goodness!!

We go to the Bell Inn regularly and enjoy the crowded bar, the multi-spectacled Henry (sorry I didn't catch that - I said the multi-spectacled Henry) but will no more after our first visit since "the change".Firstly, despite booking we were ushered into eth spare area. Slow I know, but only then started to think, this isn't right. The tables are new? There's carpet! and the menu! Sort of pizza hut stylize with a few pies a few choices of wine and only three pudding choices etc.Luckily the specials board had some fish and the seam bream was cooked perfectly. The other three guests had pies and a choice of topping of the pie (short crust, flaky or mash). Apparently good too. But, what happens next? From being regulars to a noisy, cosy, welcoming pub restaurant and a place to take our visitors etc, we will only visit again - if we fancy a pie in a quiet isolated village. I question the marketing plan for this; and may be a change to the fare will have happened before we get round to fancying a pie over the summer

We had heard and read some very mixed and hostile reviews about the new style Bell, as it happens we absolutely loved our lunch experience, we felt welcomed an valued, there was plenty of choice at the bar and the staff were all well informed and pleasant, the menu had enough choice without being overwhelming and the food was excellent, we had a chat with the chef and his enthusiasm for what he does and where he wants to take the Bell was palpable. I would highly recommend a visit and will most certainly be going again and again.

On a glorious sunny afternoon in May we decided to visit our favourite village pub and see if there had been any changes since new management took over at Easter. What we found both shocked and saddened us. Gone was the cosy, welcoming atmosphere with quirky tables and chairs to be replaced with grey carpet and stark modern furniture. When we enquired about the staff it seemed that not only had the very talented kitchen staff left but so had the bar staff and cheerful waitresses. The only person left standing was Henry who has always been 'The Bell' to us, always making us feel welcome and valued. It appeared he had a new manager himself which must be very strange as he had virtually run the business for the last 9 years. The other shock was the menu, gone were the fresh fish, beautiful sauces, interesting salads and unusual game dishes to be replaced by 'Pies and British Classics'( no surprises for guessing what they are) and what are laughingly called Tapas - since when have chips & garlic mayo been Tapas?. We sat in the quaint pub garden surrounded by lavender and white roses coming into bud and drank to the demise of the perfect village pub. A few years ago I wrote to the local paper The Leicester Mercury in reply to an article, in which they had written that their only complaint was 'slightly stringy beans'. I pointed out they had been lovingly grow in the pub's own garden - how many places could say that. Now I invite them to visit again and see what they can find that is right about the pub.

Having done a 7 mile walk in Sunday's sunshine we needed a beer and so headed for The Bell and it's wonderful English village setting, cricket club adjacent and the best sunny evening pub garden around. We were surprised to see that it had been refurbished, nothing drastic just a new carpet and some updated furniture. No longer the old pine kitchen furniture and generally a cleaner feel. Very Good !The menu looked good but could do with a pasta option maybe ? Apparently it's still being tweaked. The new team seem friendly and efficient with Henry still onboard so this will remain one of my all time favourite pubs

have been coming to the bell for the last 10 years. visited on 06/05/17 only to find the new owners have destroyed not only the old charm and ambience of a good honest and wholesome restaurant into just a drinking place. The menu was extremely disappointing and very little choice. So I guess its out with the traditional and in with the boozers. Even the old charm décor has been removed why oh why oh why.

My wife and I dined yet again at this delightful Pub set in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside. We have eaten here now on many occasions and whilst partaking of an excellent meal last night started to discuss just what it was that draws us back again and again to The Bell.Well obviously the food, chosen from a splendid menu and prepared and cooked by a skilled chef. The wine list too is extensive. This is the case though in many restaurants, The outstanding feature at The Bell is the absolutely splendid and caring team of youngsters working "Front of House" (so to speak.). They are friendly, know the bill of fayre, and nothing is too much trouble. Led by their manager, the excellent and unique Henry, they are the jewel in the crown. The owners are so very lucky to have this team working for them.THANKYOU Henry and the team...we will return again soon.

My husband & I booked here for Sunday lunch last weekend as we were taking our grandson back home after spending the weekend with us. I had done some research on trip advisor & thought the reviews were good. We were not disappointed as the meal was excellent. We had the leek & potato soup followed by the roast beef. The beef was flavoursome but could have been more tender. There were plenty of potatoes & a good selection of vegetables. Service was quick & the staff were very pleasant.

If you want to experience excellence visit this pub/hotel. There you will find staff who know what they are doing and are knowledgeable about the duties of a host. They always have a selection of well kept draught beers, lagers, ciders and other popular drinks and spirits. The menu contains most of the well known dishes and a few surprises. They cater for the oddball (like me) if you don`t want something to be included on your plate, just say so if you want something different ask, it may be available. The table service is first class to the extent that you would usually only find it in a black tie restaurant. It is an adult pub and although well behaved children are welcomed crying babies are not. It can get very busy so I advise you to book in advance. One member of staff is more than a little deaf so speak up.

Enjoyed every course. I had prawns, hake and sticky toffee pudding. All were cooked properly and tasty. The top room was fine especially with the fire being lit. I did not like mine host announcing the move. He should have left that to you as it sounded as though he wanted us out if there pdq.He could have smiled when he said it but he made me feel like a naughty child being chided. The customer is "King" as he pays your bills.Congratulations on yet another successful Safari Supper last night. The Bell is one of my favourite restaurants and never disappoints. The food was delicious and faultless – I had the prawn and avocado salad – beautifully presented; medium rare steak – cooked to perfection; complimented by the fresh fruit meringue and an expresso. The staff were charming and helpful and the ambience provided a warm welcome on a cold winter’s evening.  The company was great as always. Thank you so much for such an enjoyable time.I thought it was about the best Safari Supper I have been to.  Enjoyed every bit of it.  I liked where we were though I realise that we were lucky to have a tolerant couple occupying the table in the corner!I found Wednesday's supper one of the very best we've had all year. I like the ambience of The Bell - ideal for a dark, frosty evening. The pate starter was good. The main course of hake was really excellent - and very generous helping of asparagus to go with. The meringue and fresh fruit sweet was fine.Service good and the price of wine very reasonable. Thanks once again.Thank you for yet another enjoyable evening out on Safari. We thought the pub had a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. We enjoyed the entertainment put on by the management and staff during our "Safari Shuffles". The food was good and the portions generous. We particularly liked the sticky toffee pudding and custard. The price was reasonable. The company was excellent. So, all the ingredients for a successful evening.Thank you for once again arranging a super evening. Both of us enjoyed all three courses and for me, especially, all those lovely vegetables with my excellent steak. To finish the evening with a coffee is always a bonus. We thought the meal was very good value. Please pass our best wishes to Henry and his very efficient staff for a Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.We were happy in the top room - we think there was more space?  As for the food, it was as good as ever, but some bread or toast with the prawns would have been acceptable, the chef's smokie dish was delicious (and had bread!)The hake was excellent as was the lamb shank and very generous serving of vegetables.Puddings were also excellent and it was nice that coffee was included. Many thanks for the 'lucky dip' of chocolates, greatly appreciated.'Mine Host' and his staff were as friendly and organised as usual and kept us in order.....Altogether a very pleasant start to the Festive Season A Happy Christmas from us both.Another good evening and even Henry acted as the convivial host! Good food and good company. The occasion was overall excellent and extremely good value for money.
