Booked for lunch with friends and 2 dogs. Extremely friendly staff who cannot do enough for you. Our friends wanted scotch eggs to start but they didn't have any ready. After a short discussion the chef made them some fresh. Delicious!! Salt and pepper squid was tender and tasty and the best moules frites we have had in a long time. A long relaxed lunch which was perfect xx

Stayed at the Bell Inn for 2 nights. Tan and Andy were lovely as were all the staff. Very helpful and informative about the area. Food was excellent. We ate there both nights. There’s a lovely atmosphere in this place and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The local shop next door does amazing pasties too.

Very enjoyable meal. Short menu but all found something we liked and was well cooked and presented with friendly service. Limited parking could be an issue as only a small village. It wasn't very busy, even though it was a Friday evening, so do support them if you're in the area, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Four of us enjoyed a steak meal at The Bell recently. The steaks (ribeye for £21 and rump for £19) were all cooked exactly as ordered, from rare to well done, the chef cooked them perfectly. The accompanying garnishes were good, especially the pepper sauce. The Don Placero Rioja was very drinkable (£6.50 for 250ml which was worth every penny.) We also received excellent and attentive service from Kirsty. There were other locals in which made for a convivial atmosphere. Good night out!

We booked as a family for Mother’s Day lunch and were not disappointed. We had one vegan to cater for so I emailed a week in advance to ask what options they could make. We were offered two. We arrived for our meal and it was a lovely touch as the tables had been decorated. We had our meals which were all delicious and topped it off with dessert too. The service was very good, staff friendly and helpful. All the ladies were given a little hand make gift box with a few chocolates in, another lovely touch.

Met a friend here for an evening meal. Shown to our table with the menus which was fine then it all went downhill from there. We gave our order to be told there was no pork belly left (at just 7pm) so my wife reordered, came back 2 mins later saying they only have 2 portions of lamb!! My wife does not eat potato so asked for a meal without it, which happened ok, the chef then appeared and asked if she would like some sweet potato fries instead which she accepted, so we waited…..and waited, she could not wait any longer so ate her meal 10 mins later out came the fries!!! We then waited over 30 mins after finishing our meals to have our plates cleared away even though the staff were serving food to a table right next to us, we had to go to the bar and ask for the plates to be cleared, we then received the dessert menu and 5 out of the 7 desserts were unavailable “due to having a busy weekend”!!!!! Well first thing Monday morning GO AND DO SOME SHOPPING! We booked the table approx 3 or 4 weeks prior. Other issues for me, there was a dog running loose in the pub which crawled under our table 3 times whilst we were eating and when the chef appeared it even licked her apron!!! If the pub is busy it is very noisy and there are no quiet areas where you can have a meal and chat. The food we had was nice but for me the portion sizes were small for the price paid. I would not recommend this pub, which is a shame as the web site looked good and we do try to support local businesses but this business failed on this occasion.

We saw this advertised on Groupon and decided to try it out, some 29 years after our first visit! We were very impressed, the pub is very inviting, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. The food was very, very good, we both had steak which was cooked just how we like it. The portions were good sizes too. A nice touch for the chef to come out and speak with his customers. This was a first visit back in many many years and what can we say. It was a special occasion for us - Andy, Tan and all the staff made it feel special right from the moment we arrived. We have not had such a customer focussed experience anywhere in this country for a long time. The atmosphere, food, service were perfect for a village pub which is not a destination restaurant. Thank you so much and all the very best - we will be back soon. Highly recommended to all locals. Nearby pubs take note…this is how it should be done!

Stopped at The Bell for a lunchtime drink today, having visited several times over recent years. There were a few other customers in the pub and the atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed, however it was a little disappointing when we arrived at the bar to be completely unacknowledged by the only bar staff who was on the phone and emptying the dishwasher. It was a good 3 or 4 minutes before she even made eye contact,(having first completed her call) and although she was very pleasant and polite, a simple 'sorry' for keeping us waiting would have been appreciated. The phone began ringing again whilst she was serving our drinks, but was answered elsewhere by a colleague - to which she commented it was lucky the call was picked up. Lucky for us too - I'm sure she would have delayed serving us in favour of answering the phone!

They chose to eat here after looking around at all surround restaurant menus that where near to were we lived. they liked the sound of this menu. Arrived quite early 6.15, it was already busy. They sat us next to the fire at the bar. Think thats ok if your popping out for a quick tea but we wanted it to be a little more special since it was a special occasion.so asked to be moved. Its not the best of interiors, very dated and i think abit unloved. There only seems to be the barman/server and a young girl but they manages well. the food though was outstanding. never had ribs like it. linguine with pieces of steak through it. massive steaks and gorgeous pork tender lion we had at the table and everyone enjoyed even the 3 kids with there chicken nuggets. We only came across this pub by accident. We were traveling northwards on the A360 between Salisbury and Devizes, when just outside the village of West Lavington, I spotted one of those brown signs you see, indicating a pub somewhere along the road to to Westbury. As we were looking for somewhere for lunch, we thought we would give it a try. Very much a country pub in the local style. We stopped off at about midday and upon entering, the first thing that hit us, was the temperature. It was pretty cold. The fire had not been lit and the central heating had only just been turned on. There were already a few other people in the bar and they had their coats on. We found a place to sit by a radiator. The greeting was friendly and the girl behind the bar attentive. We ordered the fish chowder and were well pleased with it. Very tasty indeed and very filling. The place was pleasant but didn't 'light my fire' I suspect the highlight of the place is probably the food and friendliness of the staff as opposed to the venue itself.

We decided to try The bell inn as it had been recommended to us by friends for serving great food, it certainly lived up to their rave reviews. On arrival we received a warm welcome from the owners Lou and Gary, and excellent service throughout our visit from themselves and the very attentive staff. We chose to sit in the bar next to a lovely log fire, which only added to the warm cosy feel of the place. My husband and daughter shared The baked camembert and chutney starter, whilst I enjoyed a delicious homemade leek & potato soup. To follow came Hunter's chicken, The homemade gourmet steak burger, and ham egg and hand cut chips with salad. The presentation of the food was fantastic and certainly impressed us, the flavours of the food were divine. The ham egg and chips was amazing with a great salad that was beautifully dressed, my husband declared that the burger was the best he had ever tasted. The use of good quality meats and produce is certainly evident, and the food was far superior to any other pub food we have had, and is just one of the reasons we will travel the 40 minutes from home to eat there in the future. Visited today for lunch and I agree with other reviews that the pub was cold although the waitress(of whom more later) was kind enough to turn the fire from attractive to warm for us..Two great assets-the starters which were absolutely superb-particularly my scallops and the hard work of the waitress who served the food and behind the bar on her own and with great care and consideration- as the pub became busier-full marks.Ruth and I had the steak and ale pie which in common with all the food was beautifully presented. The pastry circle was a good idea with excellent filling but the pastry was a little too hard. Hand cut chips were a bit big and could have been crisper but overall the portions were very substantial and the flavours were really good making it a great pub experience.

This is a typical village pub. Not many customers on a Saturday lunchtime but a long wait for the food. The portions were large, no complaints there, the onion rings enormous! After good reviews on Trip Advisor of the banana split we found it ordinary, nothing special. The access to the pub is up a flight of steps, not easy for someone with walking difficulties. Also the the access to the toilets is down two steps with no handrail, also a challenge. There was no fire in the restaurant so we shivered, probably should have chosen to sit in the bar where there was a cosy fire. Prices were very reasonable, and the staff friendly.

On the way to Devizes in Wiltshire county a pub on the road offers amazing food and pub ambiance. If a sunny day the patio is a treat for lunch. The prices are good, the service excellent.

Well kept pub with enthusiastic tennants who deserve to do well. The real ale is kept in great condition which is accompanied by wholesome food for the eaters, A separate restaurant area is available. The toilets are clean as well!

The Bell has been a long time favourite of mine. Whenever friends and family visit they always want to go to TheBell even though I have a local pub and restaurant closer to my home. The reason we like going there is because they are always so helpful the, restaurant area is lovely (although there is just as good seating and service if you eat in the bar area) and the menu caters for everyone. I have a Japanese friend and she loves their fish dishes, they always have lovely vegetarian dishes for me and all the meat eaters in my circle of friends and family always find really nice dishes to choose from. them. Good all round service, food and value for money and you can't ask for better than that.

Although the Bell is not my closest pub I always am happy to go that extra mile for the warm welcome, broad choice of scrumptious food and excellent service and hospitality. I can only assume the previous review is written about a different pub!

My girlfriend and I were passing through the Devizes area, and were seeking somewhere to eat out, we tried two or three local country pubs, all of which did not serve food on a sunday evening which we both found bemusing.

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.

Very good lunch, busy but were found a table quickly. Staff we dealt with were all excellent, special thanks to Amelia who recommended the BBQ chicken with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Will be another addition to our favourite lunch spots..
