My only thing i would say, and this is nit a complaint, just a suggestion, is that it would be nice to have tbe option at breakast to help yourself to, things like extra toast, jams, pastries, orange juice etc ?

We have visited a Butcombe pub for Christmas before (Specifically The Bear Inn, Cirencester) and it was 10 times better than The Kings Arms, Melksham. The Bear Inn, in Cirencester had a full festive Christmas menu, Christmas Crackers, and lots of Christmas Decorations - making it feel very festive and very special. However the Kings Arms was drab, had a Christmas dinner on the menus, there was nothing else to indicate that had made much of an effort for Christmas. When we were ready to order, we were informed of what was unavailable, which was 2 starters and a main, and then our order was taken. Eventually after a 45 minute wait, our food arrived. 4 of us ordered the Christmas Dinner, and what arrived was far from festive. Non of our plates had Cranberry Sauce, and non of our plates had a pig in blanket. When we asked our server about the pigs in blankets, he went off to speak with the Chef. On his return we were met with a response of “Chef said he ain’t doing them today”. The lack of apology and professionalism was shocking. We were offered a discount once we were paying for our dinner by Jordan who was apologetic and was sympathetic about the situation. All in all, a huge let down from what we were expecting having visited a sister pub in Cirencester.

This is my Friday local, always welcome, lovely venue, haven't stayed....I'm local....beer is the best in town, also the most expensive, £6.80/peroni, bloody nice pint though, crisp, cold, quenching! Great food, car park to rear, small drive entrance through tunnel (under bridge). Service is always happy and good, sometimes slow if staff are attending guests, can't complain. Lovely afternoon sun in front beer garden, fully recommend if after a couple of nice pints or good grub👍👍

Enjoyed our stay at The Kings Arms. The evening meal we had was good, the service was very attentive and efficient. Our room had 1 window with double glazing and 1 without, this caused the traffic noise in morning to wake us up quite early. Also the shaver light did not work in bathroom. Breakfast was ok, disappointed after the previous evenings meal, eggs were over cooked, sausages didn't seem to have flavour but they didn't look like catering sausages, toast was like warm toast, not sure it was in toaster than 30 secs. Overall was a good stay, would stay again if in area just will ask not to be in room 8 and will choose different breakfast option.

I cannot fault the staff at the King's Arms - super welcoming and friendly and efficient! The Sunday roast was also absolutely lovely. My constructive criticisms would be about our room which was the nearest room to the road and therefore despite secondary glazing it was noisy from the traffic, it would have benefitted from more air flow but opening the window made it even more noisy - perhaps a small air con unit would solve these issues. The general presentation of the room was great but it does require a little maintenance - bathroom mirror light did not work (I like to leave this on at night so I know where I am!), curtains were frayed and paintwork just needed a bit of TLC - not big things but things that make a difference -over to you.... I would book here again but would definitely ask for a room that was not road facing. Thank you team King's Arms for being lovely.

Butcombe pubs are always great and this is no exception with friendly welcoming staff, well-appointed rooms and good food. A special thank you to James and the team for looking after us so well when my wife accidentally injured her eye just before checking out. James kindly allowed us to leave our motorcycles on the premises and stored our baggage in his office while we ran around between hospitals finding treatment on a Sunday. These guys really understand the hospitality business - a very well run place and a credit to the Butcombe chain.

We booked as a party of 11 for a family birthday Upon arriving we were shown to our seats, our food was already pre ordered and table booked for 5pm Our drinks choices were taken .... Our starters came out at 5.06 within minutes of sitting down , all of our guests hadn't arrived at this point and our starters were on the table !,the staff should have realised this or asked prior to bringing out , all starters were finished (without any drinks) our drinks finally arrived 20-30 mins after sitting down , from there it felt very rushed with mains and dessert ,we had to chase up further drink orders after waiting a considerable time for them .overall I felt the service was very lacking ,no attention to detail paid ,im told the service is usually quite good (maybe they were too busy) but on this occasion our party were left feeling a bit let down by the service provided that evening, considering what the kings arms charge for their food and drink i expected a much better service

The King's Arms Manager was on hand to welcome all of us and checked a couple of times that we were comfortable, if we needed anything. The staff were good at break times. The quiz master was so funny and the questions were varied, fun and not too difficult. Came to Melksham with a bunch of friends and former colleages and their partners for a reunion weekend. The King's Arms was superb in all areas. Comfortable and clean rooms, it's a very old building so not much they can do about the odd squeaky floorboard or road noise outside and it didn't spoil our stay. Dinner was very nice the the breakfast each day was absolutely fantastic. Staff were exceptional too, nothing was too much trouble and they were very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, can heartily recommend it and will certainly stay here again next time we're in the area.

Had a two night break with family. All four of us shared the same opinions with respect to The Kings Arms Hotel. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. However there were a few niggles in my room. Some lights were not working, shower rail detached easily from its mounting and a large patch of paint was peeling from the wall. The menu for lunch and evening was the same and very unimaginative. Other members of the family had a meal for lunch and thought it atrocious, noting that other diners were complaining about their food. As a result we ate out each evening. Breakfast was no better, poor quality and beacon was inedible. On our second morning there wasn't even any breakfast jam available. On the plus side all the staff were very pleasant and helpful. They have been letdown by senior management and the chef.

Met with friends- have had good experiences at Butcombe pubs…but not this time! Basically it was the poor food. The burger had a cremated Pattie. The lettuce was soggy and there were pieces of bacon despite asking for no bacon. £16 badly spent. A friend had a Caesar salad…the chicken and salad were separate….odd..with little dressing. The location is excellent, in the centre of Melksham, with free onsite parking. The staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the local area. The room, 16, is spacious and separate from the main building. It does require some maintenance - shower attachment needs fixing and the sink taps looking at. It could do with an adjustable blind in the window for some privacy, as it looks out on to the car park. It could also do with a fridge for the fresh milk storage instead of the mini flask. Lovely experience and would look to use Butcombe Pubs & Inns again.

Popular Inn in centre of Melksham. Staff really good, only saw James and Izzy during our time, both were polite, helpful and hard working. Must also mention the fantastic housekeeping team who looked after our room daily and who keep the place really looking good. Parking on site so that was helpful also. My negative points are that the Inn is on the very busy main road, our room window being right onto that road, the noise of the traffic was horrendous and relentless day and night (even with double glazed window). All the people walking past once the pubs and clubs kicked out as well, just added to the disruption. Such a shame really but not what you want for a restful nights sleep. Also, we came down for dinner at 7pm on the Sunday night and were told that the kitchen was closed and that they had run out of food, when it advertises that food served till 8pm.

Reviewed this place in March. It wasn't good then but my husband persuaded me to give it another go. I ordered the fish goujons in a bun. It was served with no garnish. A bit of salad a few crisps maybe a couple of chips would have made it look more appetising. I could have bought a bap in Greggs and it would have looked the same. Priced at £10.50 it was completely underwhelming. I cut it in half and the first half tasted ok but as soon as I bit into the other half there was a chemically sort of tang. Wondered if someone had been spraying cleaning solution about. Left it. I see there are other pubs locally that have been taken over by Butcombe that have gone downhill and are getting bad reviews.

We visited a couple of days ago and had high hopes as the overall price is considerably more than your average pub lunch. Unfortunately, the food was really quite poor, very little chicken, soggy veg and the Yorkshire pudding should have come with a health warning; it was rock hard and drowned in oil. The service was also very slow, had the pub been busy we would have understood, but, it was pretty empty. We did complain and the response was ‘I will inform the chef’, no offer of a reduction in price or even an apology. 7 very disappointed guests left and ordered a kebab.

We live a one minute walk from this place and with the dearth of (decent) eating places in Melksham we want it to be good. We've visited a couple of times before with mixed results but the family are visiting for Christmas so we thought we'd give it another go. There's a new manager and he must think none of his Christmasses have come at once. It's dreadful as he agreed. There's a new chef coming in the New Year so we'll pop back when he is onboard as the guy was so apologetic and couldn't have been nicer. We had to wait 50 minutes for the food which turned out to be the best bit! I had the burger which everyone agreed was a good choice. It was overcooked and a bit bland but spoiled by a huge mass of fatty bacon (see photo). My wife had the fish and chips which were at least edible if not enjoyable. Our daughter had the beef and ale pie. Well. She had to spit it out, something she's never done before, and I didn't blame her. It seemed to be masses of Bisto with a few pieces of meat served for some reason with a chicken gravy. The mashed potato was just weird. I tasted it and agreed it wasn't potato but neither of us could fathom what on earth it could be. She said the kale was nice. (see photo) Out son-in-law tried the veggie "lamb" in pitta bread and said it was OK. One grandson had the mac and cheese which he ate and the other had the chicken bites. These were cremated beyond cutting but he managed some bits and pieces. (see photo) We didn't risk desserts and the manager, along with his apologies, kindly knocked most of the items off the bill. He will be a great asset to the place but needs to get the kitchen sorted asap.

Stayed one night while in Melksham. Friendly staff, well actually only dealt with one girl for everything, check in, dinner service, breakfast and check out. Very pleasant and showed me to a Nicky refurbished room in the loft area with everything needed, nice and clean....

Better than when in previous ownership but far too expensive for what you get compared to other venues offering Sunday lunches

Popped in for some lunch with mum. We went for the sandwich lunch deal. Two lovely big sandwiches complete with some salad and thick cut chips and a drink. Great value. Friendly and helpful staff (Shannon). Would highly recommend a visit.

Working locally the Kings Arms looked like a good bet, very comfortable well appointed rooms made it a good choice. Great breakfast and nice for drinks in the evening. The upper floor however would be difficult for older or disabled clients.

We ate at the Kings Arms Hotel on the two nights we were in Melksham. The food was really nice both times and the staff very friendly and accommodating. Even remembered that we had been there before. Highly recommended for a good pub meal.

Worst meal, rude bar staff including a bar member that looked like she had too much to drink. Shame as we have ate here before and had a super time.

Travelled across from Cardiff for 2nd visit here and well worth the journey. Arrived early but no problem for Emily at front of house who whilst we were waiting allowed my wife to sample two wines because she was undecided, a welcome surprise. Ate in comfortable surroundings at a window seat that I had requested, served by Scarlett and Connor, two young well mannered individuals with excellent communication skills. All our food was cooked to perfection and timely served although one of our side orders was late arriving and Emily very kindly gave it gratis. Would highly recommend the Hake which my wife says was perfectly cooked and delicious, my GF Cod & chips was fab, both portions were well above average for this type of establishment and worth every penny. It was a pleasure from start to finish including the modern background music, see you again soon.

A great Sunday lunch today - the roast beef was fabulous and the dark chocolate and tangerine mousse along with the gelato ice creams, were superb. Very friendly and attentive staff. Thank you for looking after us today 👍
