One of the better pubs in the area

Impeccably clean, friendly staff and great food

Attended here for an awake. Beautiful inside, very calm own private function area food was fabulous. Just remember to add you car registration in otherwise your get a fine. You can do this at the bar, the touch pad is tempor mental mind

Location in the centre of Melksham perfect. Service excellent, from our planned late arrival through to slightly later checkout to attend a funeral. Room lovely with some great touches. Only improvement areas would be the room temperature, where provided fan was a little small to make much difference and keeping the curtains open to allow some air in, meant you coukd be overlooked by other rooms. Overall, lovely stay considering our purpose, and hope to re-visit.

Decent rooms. Plenty of free parking and staff and service are very good. It’s an old building so not very quite especially the neighbouring rooms. They serve a proper breakfast and proper coffee. Good all round.

From the moment we walked through the door to leaving *all* the staff we came across were extremely polite and friendly - a rarity these days. The rooms were lovely and comfortable and very clean. Our only disappointment was the food. Only sourdough bread available, I don’t ever recall leaving bacon before but it was tasteless. Overall description of the food would be bland and tasteless which surprised us based on previous reviews.

Had a two night break with family. All four of us shared the same opinions with respect to The Kings Arms Hotel. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. However there were a few niggles in my room. Some lights were not working, shower rail detached easily from its mounting and a large patch of paint was peeling from the wall. The menu for lunch and evening was the same and very unimaginative. Other members of the family had a meal for lunch and thought it atrocious, noting that other diners were complaining about their food. As a result we ate out each evening. Breakfast was no better, poor quality and beacon was inedible. On our second morning there wasn't even any breakfast jam available. On the plus side all the staff were very pleasant and helpful. They have been letdown by senior management and the chef.

Had a fantastic Sunday Lunch at the King's Arms Melksham. Roast Port with was so tender,everything was cooked to perfection. + hot plate's which is a must. Staff friendly and tentive . Great value for money.Its a must.Thank you to the kitchen staff and the front of house. Sue Allcorn.

The room looked a bit tired: cracked basin & some flaking paintwork. The breakfast was excellent & the staff were brilliant- very helpful esp after we left a wash bag behind which was posted to us very quickly

Lovely hotel rooms, clean and comfy. Stayed for four nights breakfast included. Wide selection of food, spoilt for choice. Also had dinner there a couple of times, good size portions, and beautifully prepared. Staff excellent, very helpful and friendly. Would stay here again. Ideal location for visiting the surrounding area.

My favourite place. Lovely private courtyard chalet type room. Excellent food in bar or restaurant area at a reasonable price. Staff are all lovely. Great Breakfast. Off road secure free parking. Loved it. Would 100% recommend 👍

A good place to stay and dog friendly. Rooms were welcoming with some nice extra touches and had all need. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Walking area for the dogs in the local sports campus across the road, field next to cricket pitch.

Met with friends- have had good experiences at Butcombe pubs…but not this time! Basically it was the poor food. The burger had a cremated Pattie. The lettuce was soggy and there were pieces of bacon despite asking for no bacon. £16 badly spent. A friend had a Caesar salad…the chicken and salad were separate….odd..with little dressing. I was offered a different meal, but wasn’t offered a refund. Staff were good, and good quality coffee.

The location is excellent, in the centre of Melksham, with free onsite parking. The staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the local area. The room, 16, is spacious and separate from the main building. It does require some maintenance - shower attachment needs fixing and the sink taps looking at. It could do with an adjustable blind in the window for some privacy, as it looks out on to the car park. It could also do with a fridge for the fresh milk storage instead of the mini flask. Lovely experience and would look to use Butcombe Pubs & Inns again.

Popular Inn in centre of Melksham. Staff really good, only saw James and Izzy during our time, both were polite, helpful and hard working. Must also mention the fantastic housekeeping team who looked after our room daily and who keep the place really looking good. Parking on site so that was helpful also. My negative points are that the Inn is on the very busy main road, our room window being right onto that road, the noise of the traffic was horrendous and relentless day and night (even with double glazed window). All the people walking past once the pubs and clubs kicked out as well, just added to the disruption. Such a shame really but not what you want for a restful nights sleep. Also, we came down for dinner at 7pm on the Sunday night and were told that the kitchen was closed and that they had run out of food, when it advertises that food served till 8pm.

Friendly pub right in the center of Melksham, we hired a section for a private function and the staff were super attentive. Food was great and plenty of it. Free carpark round the back for customers.

Lovely pub and very convenient location for our trip. It was the little touches that made the difference- being given some fresh milk for use in room. When we went up to the room the curtains had been pulled and a lamp was on, and the radio was playing which made it feel very cosy and inviting. The room was very clean, great choice for breakfast, the staff were lovely and friendly and it was a great price.

Myself and a friend had a lovely evening in the Kings Arms last night 16/4/24. The 2 young ladies behind the bar were chatty, helpful and really ensured our visit went well. We sampled the new menu and I can vouch that the Kofte on flat bread was lovely.

We took advantage of a Sunday stay over deal here. We had a great room, Sunday roast and breakfast. All of the staff were great and a big thank you to Issy and James who are doing a great job.

Went for a meal and drinks with friend and bar stuff Ellie so friendly and pleasant very warm and welcoming. Definitely coming back again to see her smiling face again.

Old 17th century building with lots of charm in the heart of Melksham. With a nice bar and good food. Room has style and is well maintained. Always very good tea, fresh water and coffee available. You can clearly see its age in the bathroom. I can't remember the last time I saw separate hot and cold water taps, let alone in a hotel, but the shower curtain over the bathtub is also a reminder of the past. Ultimately it was a very nice and functional stay.

Lovely room, but curtains were ripped, windows did not open. Food over priced, breakfast arrived with uncooked eggs. Really disappointed with the stay, would not recommend or return.

Cold water in the morning and also no heater. Both worked till 24:00h and then it became cold. Good to wake up in the morning, but not my style.

Hired a room for a Wake, food and service absolutely brilliant. Would thoroughly recommend.

Nice serving person. Interesting soup (parsnip with a coriander chutney). Fish cake and poached egg overcooked.

Just arrived and checked in to the Kings Arm and its really lovely. Great welcome from the receptionist and the rooms and super clean, warm and have nice little touches in them like a radio. Visiting family for a night and its a great location.

It's become an annual pre Christmas tradition to stay here for a night when visiting Mum in a care home in Melksham. Great value for a nice room, comfy bed and good breakfast. All the staff we have met have been very professional and welcoming too

A group of 8 ladies had lunch there today, I was the Vegan, my meal was more than enough, even though they put a omni Yorkshire pudding on, which was removed. But, in all the meal was very nice. Would happily go back.

Four of us had an excellent lunch. It would have been great at the menu prices, but the Butcombe loyalty card made it superb value! Loved the jacket potatoes! Service was very good. No problems with parking - just follow the instructions!

Despite the sign saying free parking, I had to pay a fine. Signs not clear enough. Not the first to be caught out looking at other reviews.

Visiting family, great room in the outblock...roomy, clean comfortable and handy. Breakfast was great, and good value, like the hotel.

Food and service was excellent booking made 19:00 Hrs 28th April 2023 but parking situation poorly explained by staff. as fee payment not clear and when asked staff if reg number was needed they assured me that the parking was free. Happily spent GBP170 but was shocked to receive the fine today from Group Nexas for GBP100. What is going on. Never come across parking fees for restaurant guests so totally unexpected. Reviewed this place in March. It wasn't good then but my husband persuaded me to give it another go. I ordered the fish goujons in a bun. It was served with no garnish. A bit of salad a few crisps maybe a couple of chips would have made it look more appetising. I could have bought a bap in Greggs and it would have looked the same. Priced at £10.50 it was completely underwhelming. I cut it in half and the first half tasted ok but as soon as I bit into the other half there was a chemically sort of tang. Wondered if someone had been spraying cleaning solution about. Left it. I see there are other pubs locally that have been taken over by Butcombe that have gone downhill and are getting bad reviews.

We visited a couple of days ago and had high hopes as the overall price is considerably more than your average pub lunch. Unfortunately, the food was really quite poor, very little chicken, soggy veg and the Yorkshire pudding should have come with a health warning; it was rock hard and drowned in oil. The service was also very slow, had the pub been busy we would have understood, but, it was pretty empty. We did complain and the response was ‘I will inform the chef’, no offer of a reduction in price or even an apology. 7 very disappointed guests left and ordered a kebab.

Ate here a few weeks ago with my husband and we both had the fish and chips which were nice. Sadly today the fish and chips were overcooked. The batter so hard I had to pick the fish out of it. Also had lukewarm cappuccinos. Won't hurry back. Would have mentioned these things at the time but with elderly Mum who doesn't like a fuss.

Book a table for Sunday lunch. Arrived and it was a ghost town. Young lady on the bar didn’t inform us that there were no roasts available until after taking drinks order. Big sign out the front door inviting you in…

We live a one minute walk from this place and with the dearth of (decent) eating places in Melksham we want it to be good. We've visited a couple of times before with mixed results but the family are visiting for Christmas so we thought we'd give it another go. There's a new manager and he must think none of his Christmasses have come at once. It's dreadful as he agreed. There's a new chef coming in the New Year so we'll pop back when he is onboard as the guy was so apologetic and couldn't have been nicer. We had to wait 50 minutes for the food which turned out to be the best bit! I had the burger which everyone agreed was a good choice. It was overcooked and a bit bland but spoiled by a huge mass of fatty bacon (see photo). My wife had the fish and chips which were at least edible if not enjoyable. Our daughter had the beef and ale pie. Well. She had to spit it out, something she's never done before, and I didn't blame her. It seemed to be masses of Bisto with a few pieces of meat served for some reason with a chicken gravy. The mashed potato was just weird. I tasted it and agreed it wasn't potato but neither of us could fathom what on earth it could be. She said the kale was nice. (see photo) Out son-in-law tried the veggie "lamb" in pitta bread and said it was OK. One grandson had the mac and cheese which he ate and the other had the chicken bites. These were cremated beyond cutting but he managed some bits and pieces. (see photo) We didn't risk desserts and the manager, along with his apologies, kindly knocked most of the items off the bill. He will be a great asset to the place but needs to get the kitchen sorted asap.

Had been to the Kings Arms in the past more than once. In between times it had a makeover so we decided to go again and it is still good!

An overnight stop en route to Bath turned out to be a really pleasant experience. A really warm welcome from the staff (Jaydon the general manager was a brilliant host both at check in and breakfast - Thank you!). The room was spotless and amazing value for money (£91) which included breakfast for two. Little touches like a thermos of fresh milk to have with their provision of coffee cafetiere and fresh coffee was a really nice touch. I would definitely stay here again

Met Ex-Army mates here for drinks before our reunion and was told straight away you need a morgage to pay for your drinks. Totally overpriced and we all ended up meeting at another estblishment that was far cheaper. Don't think they realise there is a cost of living crisis going on and lost out on alot of business from loads of ex-military gathering for a get together. Certainly would not be high up on my list to visit again.

I attended a group lunch and found helpful pleasant staff. The group of around 9 of us had nice food in pleasant surroundings. However, although I had registered my car at the bar it seems that the process did not work properly and 3 weeks...

Stayed one night while in Melksham. Friendly staff, well actually only dealt with one girl for everything, check in, dinner service, breakfast and check out. Very pleasant and showed me to a Nicky refurbished room in the loft area with everything needed, nice and clean....

Excellent Sunday roast! Vegetarian Wellington was delicious, portions were great and food was a reasonable price! Definitely worth a visit. Staff really friendly and very attentive!

Went for a Christmas meal with colleagues from work and had the set Christmas meal. We had already but down a 50% Deposit from all of us which had included a 10% service charge. When we arrived we explained that we were to individually pay...

Shown to table given menus,asked for drinks .wrong drink arrived asked for it to be changed . Ordered food served food asked if ok When finished had to call staff to clear table and provide menu for dessert, asked for drink that did not appear...

Better than when in previous ownership but far too expensive for what you get compared to other venues offering Sunday lunches

Popped in for some lunch with mum. We went for the sandwich lunch deal. Two lovely big sandwiches complete with some salad and thick cut chips and a drink. Great value. Friendly and helpful staff (Shannon). Would highly recommend a visit.

Working locally the Kings Arms looked like a good bet, very comfortable well appointed rooms made it a good choice. Great breakfast and nice for drinks in the evening. The upper floor however would be difficult for older or disabled clients.

We ate at the Kings Arms Hotel on the two nights we were in Melksham. The food was really nice both times and the staff very friendly and accommodating. Even remembered that we had been there before. Highly recommended for a good pub meal.

Worst meal, rude bar staff including a bar member that looked like she had too much to drink. Shame as we have ate here before and had a super time.

Recently attended for lunch with my mum and a friend visiting from Australia. The front of house staff were so welcoming on arrival and seated us no problem. We ordered quickly and the food was with us promptly. Absolutely amazing food. Portions were generous and so tasty. Would highly recommend to anyone.

You can tell when the owners and staff care about their establishment; the exterior, the decor inside, the cleanliness, including spotless toilets. A welcome as we came in the door and nothing was too much trouble even though we were in a reasonable hurry as we had a long journey ahead of us. We could have chosen any number of eateries in the area. I am so pleased that we went for this one! The food was excellent, and good portions. Nice and hot and served with a smile!

We just had a few side orders/nibbles but they were very nice. Onion rings massive? We did see others having roast which looked nice too.

Popped in on a Thursday evening for some food after a busy day. Even though it's in our home town I have never eaten here before but have popped in for drinks and meetings many times. Lovely old pub which is always clean and welcoming. Our food was served quickly and was delightful ! The staff were also friendly and nothing was too much trouble. All in all we highly recommend and will certainly be back again for food !

Myself and my husband stayed here on two consecutive weekends. The hotel is very well appointed. Both rooms we had were very good, especially room 16 which was wonderful. All staff are friendly and efficient and the breakfast was very tasty. Situated in the town centre so a brilliant base with a large car park. Highly recommend this hotel and will return soon.

A lovely place in a great location. Stayed as a family of 3, room was quite small - We were on the top floor with some steep steps to get there - however we were only there for the night so didn't mind. Room was clean with a nice en suite bathroom. Had food and drinks in the bar, food was lovely - pork loins were delicious, burger meal was lovely. Staff were great too. The hotel was a little uncomfortably hot but we did stay during the height of very cold winter!! Breakfast was made to order and was enjoyable. If we were to visit the area again we would definitely come back.

Rang at short notice for a Sunday lunch, and although my wife left a message , the establishment came back just before noon and advised us ,as long as we came by 12.45 they would accommodate us.

We stayed for just one night on 10th February as a stop over before heading onto Bath. The Hotel is a lovely old looking building and very inviting. The bar area is small but clean and tidy and a lovely homely feel to it. We were welcomed at the bar and then taken to our room, number 1 at the front of the hotel overlooking the main street. The room was big and adequately equipped for our stay and the shower room was very clean with complimentary toiletries. The shower was amazing!! We ate in the hotel in the evening and the meal was just superb and very good value for money. Breakfast was also very lovely with a choice of cereals, yogurts, full english, toast, tea & coffee. The staff were all very attentive and made a real effort to accommodate everyone. This was a great little place to stay and we will definitely be back! Thank you for a lovely weekend!!!

It done the job for us. Mid winter and the heating was off in the room. We turned the radiators on ourselves. Good friendly staff. One of the plug sockets was covered up with duct tape.

Lovely little country pub / hotel..

Lovley location, staff are lovely, nothing is too much trouble, stayed in one of the rooms away from the hotel it was like having your own apartment, room was beautifully decorated and great attention to detail. Bed was very comfy, have booked to return.

This is the second time I've been here and it's still value for money. The rooms are clean and tidy and well presentable.

Room was adequate and clean. Breakfast was excellent. Staff friendly and polite. Stairs to second floor were a challenge. Next time I will request a room on the first flor or an annex room.

We have just got back from a weekend in Melksham, where we stayed at the Kings Arms. Lovely pub hotel, lovely room, nice decor. Gorgeous food, really good! Great staff. Will definitely recommend to friends and family. Had a lovely stay.

Booked in here as I had a course the following day. Had the most delicious 3 course meal, can highly recommend the calamari. The batter literally just melted in my mouth. The steak was cooked to perfection (rare!) accompanied by an amazing Stilton sauce. The cheese board was too much too finish, but they happily wrapped it for me to take to our room. The room was lovely and spacious, shower was fab after a long drive. But our tv decided not to work. Mentioned this to Jackie, who swiftly upgraded us to the most beautiful room! The bed was so comfy, feather quilt, lots of pillows, a fab power shower. Just perfect.Had a full breakfast the following morning, wide selection of choice, and again-fab service and delicious food.Also had lunch here, as it was provided on our course. Had a halloumi and cous cous salad-beautiful!Would definitely visit here again! Thank you to all for such a welcoming stay.

Nice traditional pub with very good food. Staff nice and friendly locals use it so must be good! Well priced drinks too.

Average lunch on a Saturday. Service great & quick but food was cold unfortunately. A tad over priced for a lunch menu, if the quality was better then I'd be happy paying it but it wasn't. Can't fault the service though.

Oin visiting the Kings Arms Melksham for Sunday lunch that we were given as a present ,we discovered a relaxing atmosphier and a very enjoyable hot meal .

Staying in Melksham at another hotel. Popped in for pub lunch on freezing Saturday. Very helpful staff.We were the only couple eating. Fish and chips and Gammon and chips.Average and still that taste of deep fat fryer.

I was visiting Melksham for a business meeting and decided to stay at King's Arms hotel but I was shocked by the rude behaviour of the hotel staff. I ordered a bottle of water for room delivery, it took them 2 hours and 4 reminder calls to do that. And the breakfast was cold and unpalatable. It was my first & last visit to this hotel.

Stayed here for one night on a recent business trip to Melksham. Rooms spacious. Bar food was good. Helpful staff. Recommended.

We had a gorgeous meal the night before my daughter's wedding. They catered for approx 20 with no problems, just needed the menu pre ordered. Have also eaten here lunchtime & evening & food is brilliant

Popped in for a quick bite before we went grocery shopping. Chose the Friday special of fish and chips for both of us. For a quick meal it was excellent, tasty food and good service by friendly staff. I would highly recommend.

The entrance to the car park at the back of the hotel isn't easy to see but there is plenty of room. The food was delicious pub food with the most generous cold mixed fish salad starter. The Sunday roast was available in the evening and seemed freshly cooked.

We visited with our friends daughter who had just had braces fitness. The staff offered to cook her anything she could manage to eat, which in this case was a plate of beans and chips. We however tried the menu and had a great lunch.
