We went for lunch in the bar and the food was great and the service top notch. We have been many times before and the bar is a lovely informal setting with restaurant quality food. Even better is that there are plenty of gluten free options and the staff were very good with my Coeliac wife and we felt confident that she could eat safely. Highly recommended if you are in the New Forest.

Me and my partner went for spa and afternoon tea, both was absolutely fantastic the spa was relaxing and the afternoon tea was beautiful so much choices and the service man was so polite and welcoming, all staff was welcoming and friendly with big smiles on there faces. The only thing that I can fault was the dust there was so much dust especially under the coffee machine and picture frames. Apart from that was a lovely experience thank you

Visited today for family lunch. Delicious food and friendly service. However, poor Housekeeping really detracts from the overall experience sadly. The chairs in the restaurant desperately need reupholstering! The fabric is worn and badly soiled 🤢 - extremely off putting when dining there. The dust around the fireplace was so evident - a shame as “on the surface” (pardon the pun) the place looks as though it should be of a higher standard.

The afternoon tea was pretty good, nice selection, particularly the cakes and desserts and the gluten free option was one of the best my companion had tried. But… despite staff passing our table many times during our afternoon visit on a quiet day not once did anyone actually stop and ask how it was or if we would like more tea etc. It did feel as if once the food had been placed on the table that their job was completed. Inattentive service means we would try another venue next time.

I booked this place for my sister’s birthday, as it looked lovely and the menu sounded great. How wrong I was as the food was awful!! We ordered an adult and kid’s burger, Lymington crab starter and a kid’s fish and chips. The adult’s burger wasn’t nice and had tinned mushrooms on top. The children’s burger came as half a patty, which barely filled the bun and was so over cooked you could bang it on the table and my sister, who ordered the Lymington crab, found it to be inedible due to it tasting off and from a tin also. She ordered some chips instead and these came dripping in oil. The fish and chips were ok but sadly the fries were under cooked. When we complained, the waitress very sweetly refunded the crab starter and kids burger and she was a very sweet member of staff. Just such a shame the food was so awful as the service was good and it was a lovely location.

This was a variable supper experience, ranging from a tasteless fennel soup, liquid piccalilli and single carrot / single leaf of watercress accompaniment to some delicious puddings and quite tasty meat although the portion sizes were small. Service was friendly and helpful but just putting a heap of cutlery on the table was a bit odd.

Nice afternoon tea and with just a few minor ‘niggles’ could be 5*. Sandwiches and cakes were lovely although not sure home made but were tasty enough. Scones were warm and large. Cream supplied in rhodas plastic pot with plastic pull top and jam in small jam jar - personally I think itwould enhance tea experience if supplied in small open dishes. Service was great and attentive and staff were clearly happy in their work. Parking very easy and loos were very clean . Unfortunately the day we went it was a bit chilly seated next to entrance door which because it was busy it distracted from experience slightly . Would return and ensure not seated near door next time. (Restaurant was busy so no option to relocate)

Booked in for lunch, feel bad for chef with the one star, as the food could well be incredible, but was met with rudeness from staff. Really quite hostile service. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been there before, but maybe someone who looks like me has and been rude to them. Thankfully the friend I was meeting was late, so waited outside and we went to a lovely pub just over the road where we had the opposite experience. Would never go back, as if you’re out for a nice lunch why would you want to be treated rudely by people you’re expected to pay.

In the approach to Christmas, at the time of goodwill to all men, I feel hesitant writing this review. We've had meals at The Bell before, probably on three occasions, and they have been fine with good service. This time we met friends here and had driven a long way through driving rain and were hungry! The restaurant was full, and so was the waiting area. I think the other half of the room was being used for a meeting or conference maybe, so perhaps the restaurant floor area where we normally sit was reduced. We were greeted reasonably and shown to our table and sat down, We were presented with the Festive" menu. We preferred to order from the main menu. After about 15 minutes, we had to ask for these from behind the bar. Our drinks came pretty quickly - our waitress was courteous and friendly, and our food order was taken. After over an hour, and noting that other tables who arrived well after we did were served before us, we enquired as to whether we had been forgotten. We had to go and find someone to ask. After 20 minutes more, our food did arrive. The bream, liver and fish and chips were OK. But I don't think the chef knows how to cook the basics, unless a work experience person or the like was given responsibility. Mashed potato was cold and getting solid. Saute potatoes were few and far between, overcooked, small and cold. The "salad" was a dozen olives thrown onto a couple of lettuce leaves. The waitress offered to have the mash replaced, but we didn't have another hour to spare. The waitress was full of apologies, but said she had asked about the delay from the kitchen. The food isn't cheap here, so quality ought to have been reasonabe, not partly sub-standard or unenjoyable. We apologised to our friends for recommending this venue. Although the bill was adjusted, we'll probably try somewhere else next time. Shame, because we love the area and the decor.

Our experience totally mirrors that of the last reviewer (Narzer). We were expecting a restaurant, we got nothing of the kind. While the decor/ambience is good, a restaurant requires a competent level of service. The service at the Bell Inn was far below competent. In a restaurant you are asked if you want a drink when you arrive/are seated. You expect the servers to be briefed on any specials. You expect them to remember simple requests and not come back having forgotten to check. You expect to have water brought to your table automatically, and certainly when requested. You expect drinks ordered to arrive in a reasonably timely fashion and not forgotten. You expect the bill to be correct and not overcharged. You do not expect a (discretionary) 12.5% service charge to be applied when all this is known (it was declined). In summary - you expect a certain professionalism. I could go on but that should give you enough to understand how bad things are at The Bell. As for the food, we had 'home made crab cakes'. Maybe seeing 'home made' on a restaurant menu should ring alarm bells (is everything else bought from the Brakes van?). In this case maybe it would have better if they had been supplied by Brakes. They were poor. 3 balls with a thick crust with hard chunks of breadcrumb stuck to the outside. The content of the 'cakes' was tiny and they had very little in the way of crab with poor flavour. At least we were asked by the server (on clearing the plates) if we had enjoyed then. Our feedback that we hadn't was to be relayed to the chef. The grill items we had (steak and pork chop) were fine but were expensive for what was served. Maybe the chef will change the crab cake recipe, maybe someone will actually train the serving staff so they can be good at their jobs, maybe we should go back to find out, but with many much better places to eat at in the vicinity, shame to say, The Bell Inn will not be seeing us again.

We reserved a table, which was not set up when we arrived. Also kept waiting before being seated, rather than greeted, waiter kept about his business. Service was chaotic, sporadic and not good enough for the prices charged, as with others I like to leave a tip, rather than have one automatically applied, I would not have left one this time. We had to ask for drinks and refills. The waiter spent most of his time with us trying to operate his tablet, would have been much quicker if he had pen and paper. We were not asked if we’d like desert, and gave up asking for a coffee. Food was nice and we thoroughly enjoyed it. On balance we’ll not visit again and cannot recommend the restaurant. Shame really, as we are members of the golf club and had invited friends out for dinner, we left feeling embarrassed. Visually from outside, the Green Dragon opposite looks a lot more inviting.

It’s took me a couple of days to decide what to write here… as my experience was both good and bad.Good: wonderful accommodation, my room was really nice, and rightly so as it cost a lot. It was booked for a special night for me and my wonderful partner on our way back from the Isle of Wight… so the room I can’t fault. However…Bad: It started not so great when the barman didn’t seem to know where the ginger ale was for my whiskey & ginger, only to drown my drink in ginger ale… should have let the customer add his own amount of mixer…. A rookie error right there. The booked evening meal was a shambles… not the food, the food was really nice… when it turned up. And that was the problem. We were on time for our table, sat down and it took 20 minutes before someone took our order for food and drink. Time ticked by, until my lady got up to ask about our drinks at least. I’d ordered a particularly expensive red wine… not out of bravado, but because I like Pinot noir, but at £15 a glass, you’d think they’d serve it pretty quickly! We got our drinks and then time ticked by again… a ribeye steak and duck doesn’t take forever…. But it took us to enquire a further two times to find out what was going on. Turns out the computer server went down… which as the waitress wrote down our order with pad and pen, didn’t wash with me. So ladies and gentlemen… 1 hour and 25 minutes later… our food arrived! My steak, fine… but my other half’s duck had turned into pork belly! To their credit they apologised, gave us a free drink each… though it would have been better for the manager to do the apologising rather than make the poor waitress do it. Bad management. We would have stayed for a pudding and perhaps a coffee had it all gone well. And perhaps even a whiskey, after. But we went to bed.In the morning breakfast was pretty badly managed too… I’m not even going to go into that. However at the reception, we found the whole mean had been erased from the final bill… which is why I agonised over leaving such a review. But it remains to be said… the very young manager did not deal with the situation well at all, keeping the customer updated on problems goes down much better than leaving them to stew!I have been involved with nightclubs for many years and our restaurant would never leave a customer waiting for over an hour without food or an explanation.I admit I am now not so sure I would return to this establishment, which saddens me as it promised so much more. And did kind of ruin a nice evening. But I did appreciate the outcome of not charging us for the dinner. Perhaps training the staff in customer care is needed.

We have been patrons of The bell Inn for many years and think that following our lunch today we have been very spoilt in the past. No one in reception with a smile to greet you. One person behind the bar. After a short wait he asked what we would like. Told him we had booked a table for lunch. He told us to go through to the restaurant. We were not asked if we would like a drink before going through. Shown to our table by very pleasant waitress; no name badge on show, and she didn’t introduce herself to us. Given paper menus, not a lot of choice. Once ordered, menus were taken off us and replaced on the pile by the entrance. During our time there these menus were used time and again. Non compliance with Covid regulations for the hospitality sector. Food was served on cold plates, Beef was really good but let down by barely warm veg and cauliflower cheese was off the menu. No replacement offered other that to be told we would get extra veg that was available. Ordered a Gordons Gin & Tonic.. no Gordons Gin available!Such a shame as we have had many very good meals here in the past. Lots of improvements need to be made to entice us back… Sorry..

This fabulous place reopened two days ago and today was their first Sunday lunch service. The staff were fantastic and the food was absolutely divine. Thank you so much, I only wish we could give you more than 5 stars!

We recently stayed here for 2 nights following my birthday. The hotel is lovely. Full of rustic charm with a gorgeous log fire in the bar. There are lots of places to sit and chill out and the rooms are comfortable and clean. We had dinner one evening in the restaurant and it was amazing. Very well presented and delicious. More like fine dining. The staff are very friendly and the service is very good. It is also a dog friendly hotel for anyone looking for a place to stay who has a dog. It is not far from the M27 so easy to find and there is an excellent pub across the road called the Green Dragon which does fantastic food as well. All in all a great place to stay in the New Forest. We would certainly consider returning.

We came here for lunch with friends yesterday and had a fantastic meal. 2 of us started with the tempura prawns and you could certainly taste the chiili in the sweet chilli jam! We then both had burgers and they were excellent. They were cooked to perfection. One of our friends had the chicken liver parfait followed by steak whilst the other had the chicken and chorizo crocquettes followed by the sea bream. They both said that their meals were excellent. The staff were friendly and more than happy to let us take our time over the meal. We'll certainly be back.

A great place in the New Forest but very convenient to the M27 Junction at Cadnam. A nice peaceful place to stay and right next to Bradshaw Golf Club for those who like to play! With friends we enjoyed a nice lunch in the restaurant with very reasonable prices & a good menu choice. Before eating we enjoyed a drink in the bar area next to the warming open fire.

The Bell is in a great location close to the end of the M27 (exit Cadnam). Inside it is unusual and a bit quirky, with comfy sofas side by side with tables for eating at arranged in different areas, along with an open fire. The food was excellent and we'll presented, although my fish left me a little hungry. The layout must make it hard to watch what is going on at tables, and they seemed short of staff as we had to prompt them for service on more than one occasion.

Beautiful food but surly attitude and appalling slow and disinterested service ruined surprise lunch. This had been booked for a couple of months. The place was not busy. Disorganised staff gave impression they didn't really care at all. Steaks X three did not come as ordered but we're nevertheless delicious. In fact the service seriously let try he chef and food down. All of us commented the food was cold on arrival at the table. No staff came to check everything was ok. After half an hour of waiting for plated to be cleared and dessert menus to be offered a member of the party had to go and ask if the table good be cleared. It was not done with good grace. So sadly very disappointed. The place is stunning, the food is great but the service spoils it completely. Would have been delighted to return as it is very local to us but will not - so sad

The Bell Inn had been highly recommended by friends and I was looking forward to a lovely restaurant meal. I was not disappointed. It was a cold Sunday evening but what a warm welcome. A lovely dining room, friendly atmosphere, great menu and excellent food and wine. Scott looked after us perfectly and was such a charming person. I look forward to a return visit.

This is our first visit and had such a lovely meal. We ate the tempura prawns, crab and falafel for starters, followed by the hake, lamb and roast beef all perfectly cooked and served with nice mix of vegetables, then the brioche and panda cotta for desert. Service was spot on, haven’t had a Sunday lunch as good as this for ages and will definitely go again!

A family lunch with the long lost cousins. Good ambience. The restaurant was very quiet on a Monday lunchtime. Just our table of six and four other diners. The food was excellent but nobody went for adventurous eating. One burger, one fish and chips and four steaks. I would have thought that with the place practically empty that the service could have been a bit sharper. What more can I say? Cost with drinks was £180. Reasonable value for money. We all agreed to go back there in March.

I was really impressed with the Bell. They were so welcoming to my dog - genuinely dog friendly and not just dog tolerant. And my nut allergy was not a problem: other restaurants could definitely learn a thing or two here!

Myself and 3 golfing friends spent a lovely two nights at the Bell Inn, the staff were extremely helpful and very pleasant in the dining room and the reception, our rooms were kept spotlessly clean by the housekeeping staff. The food was exceptional, the buffet breakfast and the evening meal were superb. We visit the Bell most October’s for our annual golf trip and find everyone so very polite and nice from the pro shop to the hotel. We will be back next October.

After driving past The Bell every day going to work, I finally stopped there a few months ago, and have been back several times since. It is a lovely spot for a pot of tea in the garden, a sandwich at lunch , cocktail on a Friday evening, or Sunday lunch. I have never been disappointed with the quality, the courteous and helpful service, or the ambience. Stop there and see for yourself!

I recently visited this beautiful pub restaurant, saw very disappointed with the portion size of the cod. I noticed that others that had ordered the same cane out in different sizes. My portion seem to be on the small size, especially when you could see that it had been cut down. I have never been some where that cuts the cod down into smaller plaices. The size was about 4” by 1.5”. That to me is a chicken size of fish with an adult price.

AMAZING! If you have an allergy please come eat here! They don’t have those silly allergy menus but instead their own separate dairy, gluten exc menus so you feel included in the meal instead of being that one person scanning through each item in that silly flip book! Food is also super fresh and tastes 10/10. Constantly changing their menus and have beautiful views if you can grab a window seat!

We had gone for a roast dinner with my 1.5 year old daughter, which was a lovely roast. Unfortunately at the end of our lunch my daughter was finishing her peas when she started to choke on them. I could not thank your employee Josh enough for his help. He came straight over the second he realised something was wrong and offered his help right away. He then called an ambulance and stayed with us until he left, constantly checking on us and offering to get things for us. Thank you so much Josh for helping us in that scary moment and I hope his efforts will be appreciated.
