Good service from Brad and Issy Delicious food, albeit that Caesar salad was short on salad and long on Chicken and dressing.

What a terrible lunch. First, if the menu (a short one, which you would think had been prepared for the day) advertises mackerel, why do you get told after the order that there is no mackerel but they do have bream ? Not as if this was a late sitting and the mackerel had sold out; they must just not have had mackerel! Second, why was the bream smothered in a rather awful pesto clearly straight out of a jar? So overpowering that even after scraping the stuff off, I just couldn’t get rid of the garlicky stench of the fish. Thirdly, how come a butternut squash main is £22, while the bream is £20: where is the market sense in that? Fourth the presentation of sausages wrapped in bacon was frankly quite disgusting, amateur and unpleasant to behold. Finally how come the total bill for two came to £30, yes £30 more than yesterday’s lunch at Chewton Glen? If I am asked why did I not complain, the answer is that having a row is not why I go out for Sunday lunch! Is this trading rather too heavily on the now rather passé Montagu name? Really not worth the effort, much less the price.

Very quiet on a weekday lunchtime. Very dog friendly in the bar and restaurant, we chose the comfortable bar. The dog biscuits went down very well with our furry friend. Flacks beers and Somerly cider were very nice. Haddock and chips was possibly the finest fish I've had, truly crispy beer batter and a lovely piece of fish. The full Monty burger was very good too.

Ordered the roast beef. I asked them not to put gravy on but they did. Beef excellent but only two slices , at that price I expected more. Selection of green vegetables would have really good if they weren't cold. A hugh Yorkshire pud that was overcooked . The carrot was nice . Roast potatoes had leathery skins. For the price I definitely expected better.

Unfortunately my first 2 meal choices from the menu were not available so I had to settle for a simple risotto, so 3 star rating for food is because it's a simple dish. I ordered a dark rum with coke but didn't receive it. When I asked about my drink when my meal arrived I was informed they had no dark rum. Ok, so why wasn't I asked if I wanted something else? They were fairly busy when we arrived so service was slow but this improved when a couple of waiters from the main hotel restaurant came across. I feel sure things would have been better if they hadn't been so busy.

My partner and his son visited yesterday. They ordered 2 food items and 2 drinks - after waiting 40 minutes they enquired how long the food would be. He was then informed the order had not been sent to the kitchen. My partner then cancelled the order and asked for refund. This took another 15 minutes to get a refund because they had to find someone who could do the refund. At no point was an apology made, and still charged for the 2 soft drinks. We can all make mistakes we get that, but to not even offer an apology is something else.

The whitebait were crispy and a good portion for starters. You felt they were not going to scrimp with your food. Excellent fish and chips, in fact the best chips I have had in years. Crisp on the outside and meltingly soft throughout. The fish was fresh and lightly battered in crispy grease free batter. The burger looked good too. Staff were friendly and accommodating, fitting us in early. Good prices for the quality of food. The chef obviously enjoys their calling and the staff made you feel welcome with a bouncy but restrained enthusiasm. Best book as they are rightly busy. Rather too dog friendly for my taste, the dogs were treated like royalty and spaced out to avoid territorial disputes. Faultless really. Good show to all and thank you for reminding us what good food and good service are about.

We booked a table at Monty's Inn. Our table was in a tiny alcove, we squeezed in OK. The wine we ordered was disappointing OK. Then I noticed a fly ensconced in my fork, it was replaced. I ordered chalk stream trout, new potatoes and nicoise salad. When it arrived I did not recognise the slither of fish fillet perched on a pile of gem lettuce leaves. Accompanied by cold potatoes, with the odd French bean. No anchovies etc. When asked, my feedback said it was hardly Ok and I explained why.The waiter listened and did nothing. I believe the description did not meet the trade descriptions act. Then the bill hosted a compulsory 12% service charge not OK. Disappointing experience for our local restaurant.

We booked a table a good few weeks in advance for Sunday lunch. On arrival, after a lovely long walk around Beaulieu, we received a warm welcome, but with the statement that they had been busy and they may have run out of roasts! Immediate disappointment! This was indeed the case and we had to choose from a very limited selection of just 5 alternative dishes. Our drinks service was very slow. The 2 haddock and chips ordered were enjoyed, the Monty burger VERY average, and the cod dish portion rather small. The final issue was being overcharged on the bill (which had to be pointed out and rectified). Not at all the Sunday lunch with friends we had been looking forward to and therefore we would not visit again.

This pub is badly managed, if it even has a manager. The bar maid had a dog in her hands when we arrived, she passed it over the bar and then continued to serve us without washing her hands. Same goes for a member of the bar who had a cough, never once did we see her wash her hands. We went in on the Saturday and Sunday and never once were glasses cleared off tables unless the customers did this themselves. Come Sunday lagers, cider and crisps all ran out early afternoon. I certainly would not recommend going her unless it gets a Manager.

We are sorry to say this pub was a big disappointment. On walking in the bar maid had a dog in her hands and then continued to serve us without washing her hands. The pub was full but as people left not one table was cleared down unless the new customers did this. The staff just talked between themselves when the bar was full of empty glasses. Come the Sunday there was barely any beer pumps workings , no lagers left. I feel it needs a good strong manager because as it is the pub functions but very badly 😢

Been meaning to go here for a long time as often drive passed on a trip to the New Forest. Finally made it for lunch one midweek day - me and my dog. Initial impressions were it was lacking atmosphere. As you go in there is a dining room to the left and a bar area to the right. The bar looked more inviting but I was seated in the dining room. Service was friendly and was offered drinks straight away with time to look through the menu. Dog was given a blanket on the floor and some water which was a really nice touch. I chose a light lunch of mackerel with a side of salad and chips to bulk it out a bit! It was all very nice - salad was huge! I also got a meal off the dog menu for my dog - fish pie I think it was - it was enormous!!!!!!! I had a nice enough time but I felt it really did lack atmosphere and almost felt a bit disorganised or like and after thought to be serving food in this pub/inn. I can’t put my finger on quite what it’s lacking but as it’s fairly high prices I don’t think I’d rush back. The service was very good and I was well looked after. Couldn’t fault that but just something missing atmosphere/decor wise. Give it a go if you’re happy with prices as food is nice enough.

I’m going to keep this short I have been going to Monty’s on and off for years after a couple of year gap I revisited for Sunday lunch I now wish I didn’t bother. The service was nothing short of appalling zero knowledge of food...

Had a fabulous birthday lunch here at this lovely bistro restaurant. Excellent food, great friendly service and free Prosecco. Nearly put off by some poor reviews, glad I ignored them!

Awful and massively overpriced. Gin and tonic, pint of bitter (cloudy) and two 'open' sandwiches £40. Till not working properly, pumps not working properly and ignored when we first got to the bar.

Called for a drink last Wednesday. First pint poured was sour and had to be replaced. Asked for crisps but was told that an order was awaited so out of stock. Then charged £10.50 for a pint and a large coke. Till wasn't working so had to pay in the hotel reception. This is a bar adjoined to supposedly one of the best hotels in Hampshire. Nothing here to encourage another visit. Perhaps if they had any opposition in town service might improve?

Went for Sunday lunch. It was telling that the pub was advertising for cooks, the roast was OK but the gravy tasted like they had gone a bit heavy on the bisto. Service was OK, but you had to order from the bar.
