Disappointing meal, ordered the special king prawn tagliatelle. Came out without any prawns, pointed this out to the waiter who took it back & told me chef had misread ticket. Not a problem! My replacement food arrived as my other half was finishing his. Replacement dish was warm at best & not remotely spicy. Ate about half, paid in full & won’t be rushing back!

A nice place and the food was well cooked with reasonable sized portions, albeit a bit expensive. Be mindful if you park in the Waitrose car park directly next to the restraunt because you will get a ticket if you stay for more than 2 hours, even in the evening, which is ridiculous.

This place has undergone a refurb and the pictures on here do not show this. It’s a fantastic refurb. We came for a large group meal. The service was attentive, fast, accurate- wonderful team. Well done. The food- we ate the soup, nut roast ( made per our request without cranberries) and brownie dessert. I’m not kidding- it was absolutely fantastic taste, temperature, plenty of vegetables as extra. The brownie was probably the best I’ve ever had. Value for money outstanding with food and drinks. Views are fabulous from all around the restaurant. So impressed, I’m confident to recommend this restaurant. Very well done to you all

Seashells used to be a gem of a place that was always a great place to eat in Hythe for many years. For groups & for families & friends. No longer! Since being taken over a few months ago the reviews from locals have been disappointing. See Facebook. Some groups in Hythe have used it as the place to celebrate Christmas for years & you could always be guaranteed a good night with good food. Such a shame that’s not the case now! Booked 3 months ago for our group of 40 & pre ordered as requested like we have done for the last 5 years like many other groups have done too. It seems we have all had the same experience this year. Cold main courses (sent back to be heated up) because the veg didn’t arrive for some time by which time the fish/meat was cold! Not enough staff to cover the numbers & the staff had to keep asking our organiser what had been ordered & how many. They had been given all the menu choices 2 weeks ago at least. Last orders was called at 9.50 pm.!!! after very slow service of the food. Some people hadn’t had their dessert served until 9 pm having sat down to eat at 7 pm. At least our group was spared the hoover that was brought out to signal the end of the evening at 10 pm with another group. Who goes to a Christmas meal at 7pm & expects to be leaving by 10 pm? Except for the cold main course the food was tasty when we eventually got it. Looks like we’ll be voting with our feet like 3 other groups we know next year. The new owners inherited so much good will gained by years of excellent service by the previous owners that has been wiped out quickly by bad organisation & bad customer service. The room wasn't even decorated to look festive!! So disappointing.

AMAZING! If you have an allergy please come eat here! They don’t have those silly allergy menus but instead their own separate dairy, gluten exc menus so you feel included in the meal instead of being that one person scanning through each item in that silly flip book! Food is also super fresh and tastes 10/10. Constantly changing their menus and have beautiful views if you can grab a window seat!

Love this restaurant, however, just today been told, new owner, no phone number, bookings only online (my Mother In Law is 94, no Internet- loves Seashells so she can't book anymore). Bookings not taken on the day, has to be done in advance. Just hoping that this fabulous place isn't ruined, and all the reputation earned by the previous owners is destroyed. Big shame. Why mend something when it's not broken. Review written 31.10.24

Love the new decor! staff very friendly and efficient. Turned up looking slightly grubby after work with my 12yr old daughter also looking like a hippy from the 60s! To tired to cook and promised her a trip out. Realised that it's Friday and most people are looking great and smelling like roses. But not once did the staff judge us. service was wonderful, food was excellent, more expensive than my last visit but as always worth every penny, put us by the window and we played hang man while waiting for our food. Didn't wait long, demolished the lot, left happy, satisfied with a happy child. Definitely a lovely meal out. Thank you

While visiting the area, we pre-booked breakfast at Seashells on a Sunday morning. Unfortunately, we encountered an unexpected challenge upon arrival as the restaurant is located on the first floor. Having not noticed this on the website (there’s a note on the contact page which we hadn’t visited), it proved difficult for my husband, who has restricted mobility. While we managed to negotiate the stairs, it wasn’t ideal and unfortunately means we won’t be returning. As for the breakfast itself, the full English was underwhelming and lacked the quality we expected, both in terms of ingredients and presentation. The service was equally disappointing, with the staff seeming unfriendly and disengaged, which added to the negative experience. On a more positive note, the view from the restaurant is lovely, but overall, the experience was not one we would repeat.

If you book a table in advance you're likely to be by the window and can get a great view of the ships going in and out. Food is reasonably priced and is always tasty. We stumbled across this place during a visit to the area. Up the stairs to an open bar area, with dining at the back. Views across the water and a smoking veranda. The view is great (unless you're looking at the car park), the food is mediocre. Few vegetarian options so I asked for them to make the tomato tagliatelle larger, I probably could have had a similar or better quality microwave meal. The starters were good but the bread with the olives definitely wasn't ciabatta. The dessert - a chocolate brownie with ice cream - was really good, however, but probably difficult to mess up. I go to Seashells for the ambience, the view and the good service and food. Unfortunately the latter fell well below expectation. The food was generally good, but three of us had the pork stir fry from the specials board. While mine was fine those of my two friends were severely lacking much pork or other items, so they liked the flavour but had mainly noodles. One friend ordered the steak & ale pie; a beef stew (which he said tasted good) with a piece of puff pastry rested on top is not a pie. My main unhappiness was with the time the meal took. The starters were an age appearing and then there was a huge gap before our main courses appeared. When I queried this with the waiter he said it was because they were busy. I pointed out only a third of the tables were in use. His response was “We are only staffed up for a Wednesday”. I am rather confused by this, what am I the customer supposed to make of this? If there are more diners than expected which caused the delay they should accept the service is below the expected standard, if they just put few staff on on a Wednesday and let the diner suffer the consequence they should give a discount. I have always used Seashells as the place to take friends in Hythe but now I am not sure whether to continue this.

Sadly, the actual entrance to Seashells Restaurant is incredibly shabby (needs a sweep, a good coat of paint and maybe a heavy planter?) - so much so that we nearly decided to give it a miss but having phoned to check that they could indeed do #glutenfree fish & chips - we went in. Fabulous location overlooking #waterfront & Hythe Pier with views right across to Southampton! Great #gf fish & chips, but also quite extensive menu. Staff very friendly and helpful. The owner really should do something about the entrance - it lets restaurant and their team down.

My wife & I visited last night, with the intention of having a few drinks. We're new parents and came to Dibden to visit the grandparents who kindly offered to babysit so we could enjoy a night out. We arrived at Seashells and even though it was quite busy, the bar was completely free. We stood at the bar for 5 mins straight, again, with nobody else around. All 3 girls behind the bar ignored us & pretended to be busy, even going as far as to avoid eye contact. Not to mention they all looked miserable as sin. It became apparent that we were blatantly being ignored when as soon as an older gent approached the bar, one of the girls literally walked by us and served him immediately. We assume the gent was a regular, but that shouldn't factor into it really. Rather than make a fuss, we just walked out. Heard this place is closing down and after last night's display of immaturity and unprofessionalism, I'm not surprised.

I booked this as a special birthday meal for my partner. We booked for 8:30pm on a Friday night. It was the only slot available. So we knew it was going to be busy. We were very much looking forward to this. Having read the reviews it really did have potential. Unfortunately it was a real disappointment. When we arrived the restaurant had only three occupied tables, so we were very surprised. The atmosphere was non existent. We could only hear the conversation of the group of gentlemen in the front of the window. We ordered two soft drinks, and some sparking water. The water was poured. It was still. The starters arrived and were expensive, tasteless and massively lacked flavour. Prawn cocktail was bland, and terribly sad looking. We ordered pork belly, and a steak med/rare. No steak knives were given. The pork was massively over cooked, the steak was unseasoned and well done. We returned the steak and were offered a replacement. It came with a bowl of what looked like lettuce. My partner politely asked what it was, we really didn’t have a clue. The waitress confirmed it was a side salad. Wow! The second sreak came up rare, unfortunately this was also tasteless and unseasoned, and what looked like the same fries from the first steak. The waitress was so kind and helpful. We felt embarrassed for her. She apologised and we left the food and asked for the bill. When the waitress returned. She’d removed my partners steaks and only charged us for the pork. I was too embarrassed not to pay, but we did, albeit without the steaks. Such a waste. Maybe the chef was ill that night? We aren’t fussy, or awkward but this was lacking in everything.

We have just had the most incredible Sunday lunch at 'The Bell'. We originally intended only stopping for a coffee before returning home after a lovely weekend in the New Forest cycling. However at 2 pm, with the aroma of a roast in the air, it would've been rude to have not indulged before hitting a rain drenched M27. And we were very glad we did. The food was of excellent quality - we both had the roast beef which was delicious and came with all the trimmings, including a zingy horseradish sauce. Our request for extra gravy was received by attentive and welcoming staff and was swiftly met. Portions were hearty, and the meat was cooked to perfection. Rounding off our meal with coffees by the fire was a perfect way to end our trip. We will definitely return and will recommend to friends and family who often pass this way. A truly memorable lunch and a wonderfully relaxing way to end our weekend break.
