Great decor and lovely view but the roasts had tough meat, poorly cooked roast potatoes and dry yorkshires. My daughters both had children’s meals and were unimpressed with the taste of the burger or the meatballs. Service could have been improved , we were not offered condiments, they dropped the cheese on the floor for the pasta dish and did not offer a replacement or the correct cutlery. When they asked how the meal was we replied that the meat was tough and they brought over steak knives. When the hostess came over at the end of the meal she hadn’t been informed about our earlier issue. I would pop in for a drink but I wouldn’t eat here as there are many better options for Sunday lunch close by.

We visited this venue today for the first time since moving to Stroud 2 years ago. It's easily the best place we have eaten an evening meal. On my catering degree they told us there are 3 elements to a dining experience - food, service and ambience. The Bell gets all 3 spot on. Delicious food, ranging from easily recognisable to foodie unusual items, friendly but unobtrusive service, with a nice buzz in airy, smart but not formal surroundings, with a great view from lots of tables. We'll be back soon!

Waste of time if you're vegan. Such a poor or non-existent choice of dishes for the hungry vegan. Good selection of beers and cocktails, gins etc, but only really good for a drink rather than for something to eat. That is such a shame, given the pedigree and reputation of the resident chef. He needs to be more aware of food/diet trends and more brave with his offerings.

Firstly, I will say the venue is very nice, and the staff were friendly and we could see as plates went past us that the food was presented well. However, perhaps we were unlucky with our choices: a starter of mackerel pate was fine but the Black Pudding Terrine with sweetbreads was dry, salty with no discernible flavour or texture of sweetbreads, and tasted mostly of bread and I was only able to pick out one coin size piece of black pudding. Mains of slow cooked blade of beef was tender but very little seasoning apart from salt and was glutinous because the gravy was over-reduced. Again, the pollack was under seasoned apart from salt and a curiously strange granulated something that almost seemed sweet like sugar which I couldn't discern and slightly under-cooked (better than over) and served with Cornish mussels, and tomato and smoked paprika braised cannellini beans that were al-dente with that ruined the dish. We did not stay for a pudding.

Quite a disappointing Sunday Lunch. The beef was difficult to cut and eat - as the main event it was not great. There were final "greens" so the whole dish looked a bit brown - more broccoli or green, rather then a bit of yellow cabbage. The starter was salty and the dessert not very inspiring. We gave feedback, but the staff simply said sorry and nothing was offered. There seemed to be some large celebration/birthday bookings but I didn't see a single birthday offering from the pub - maybe I missed it. I was surprised, as I expected this to be really great. Parking, for the size of the place isn't great - may be removing the outdoor tables in the winter for parking might help.

Amazing food - the mackerel pate was off the scale good and the plaice was perfectly cooked with a beautiful accompanying sauce that was delicate yet full of flavour. Our friends were equally impressed. We eat here regularly and have never had a mediocre let alone bad meal. Beautiful surroundings, attentive and informed staff and excellent vale for the price. Please don’t change anything (and keep the mackerel pate on the menu forever)!!

Having booked tickets for a show at The Sub Rooms we then decided to make a break of it. The only hotel in town appears to be a functional hotel and we wanted something more homely, which is how we came upon The Bell, about a mile from town it was ideally located. The rooms are above the pub with a separate entrance at the rear, our room was exceptionally comfortable and clean, it had everything we needed for an enjoyable break. The pub is very welcoming with a good selection of beers, breakfast is taken here with some great options, we didn't get the chance to try the lunch/dinner menu which gives us another reason to return one day. Mark and Sarah along with all the staff were very friendly and welcoming, we shall be checking in on The Sub Rooms site for other shows, should we come again we would definitely stay here.

Stayed overnight with dinner and breakfast the following morning. Lovely friendly welcome on arrival and a fabulously quirky room in the roof space. Dinner was delicious as was the accompanying beer and wine. The following morning and it would have been rude not to have the full English. Another delicious meal and set us up for the day. Chef and Mrs Chef run a great pub/restaurant with rooms. Why stay in a boring modern box when there is somewhere like this to stay.

Having stayed with a friend and experienced this restaurant on numerous occasions I was more than happy to stay there. (My friend had numerous relatives from abroad staying and was unable to accommodate me as well). I was happy to stay elsewhere and what a good choice! Arrived circa 1900hrs on Thursday, my friends joined me for dinner at 2030hrs again a stunning dinner, then to bed. I then noticed in the comprehensive information provided in the room that they could arrange a Shiatsu Massage and/or reflexology . . .literally over the road . . . I went for both! OMG one of the most relaxing experiences I have ever had!

After months of covid restrictions and other various little setbacks the family said their final farewells to my brother. It was a beautiful afternoon as we said goodbye just as he wanted, beside our family childhood home and the canal at Dudbridge. We followed this this with afternoon tea at The Bell, where he used to go as a young spiv. Justyna and her team did him proud. We had a warm welcome, beautifully prepared and presented food including vegan and mindful of allergies. Such a lovely setting , gorgeous views, very comfortable venue...in fact a really really lovely afternoon . Just as Gerry would have wanted. Thank you sooo much all of you. xxxx

Met friends here for a Saturday lunch. Chose it on the basis of its reviews and the fact that it was half way for each of us.The website is a bit misleading: without actually saying so it gives the impression it is in the country. Actually Sesley is effectively a suburb of the Stroud-Stonehouse urban area. It is surrounded by buildings and the view from the window is largely of other buildings, albeit with the Cotswold escarpment as a backdrop. From the outside the building is a bit tired; however money has been spent inside which is very smart. number of rooms open off the small central bar; we ate in the modern conservatory which was very pleasant and airy.Food is the attraction here; the short lunch menu has plenty of choice whether you want meat fish or veggie. The pollock was apparently very good according to my friend, and sandwiches made with bread baked on the premises got the thumbs-up. My blade of beef was generous but sadly served tepid.Prices are high - £8 for a sandwich and £16-£19 for a main course. The set lunch which the website advertises as being available on Saturdays is not - big black mark.Prices are probably partly jusified by the fact that the food is local and very imaginatively cooked and served; the rest must be the area.Service was friendly but slow - they need more staff at busy times.Overall 3.5 stars - could easily be more with a bit of care and attention to the front of house.

A treat, despite the road closure which made us go round Selsley. Bell Lane is an easy access to the pub, so is going through North Woodchester, then Selsley Hiil and demanding access to the road workers sitting in their truck doing nothing.

We had been highly recommended this place by people who had been before and loved it. I was a little disappointed with our visit. Service was fine and the wine was nice, it was the food that was a let down. I had the scotch egg to start and although cooked nicely was bland and needed seasoning, as did my partners pasta. Mains and I had the cod which again although cooked fine tasted, well, healthy and bland again, also in much need of a sauce. The deserts were lovely.

We went here because it was a few minutes walk away and we had spent the day at Blenheim and our feet were exhausted. Didn’t want to go far and our hostess recommended this place. It is a pub with a modern glass surrounded restaurant on the back. This is where we sat but it seems you can get the same food in the pub. I had the veal with Stilton fritters, salsify, and asparagus. I had never heard of Stilton fritters and I love blue cheese so this is what led me to order this dish not the veal. This was a good thing because the veal itself was dry and rather tasteless. The shinbone that it was on though had a lovely piece of marrow in it and all the vegetables were delicious and the Stilton fritters were excellent. The whole thing was swimming in a nice brown light gravy which added to it. My husband had the deer cooked rare and he was quite happy with that although the lentils lacked seasoning but the carrots were good. The place was full and everyone seem to be enjoying your dinner so I would recommend it if you’re in the neighbourhood.

We booked for Sunday lunch . We were originally seated by the kitchen door on a tiny table but were moved onto a better table when we asked. The meal was of good quality but not enough of it. Sunday lunch is supposed to be a festival of food to celebrate a day of rest after a week's work I can imagine a few farmer types going away hungry after these meagre portions. We ordered a pudding each and were then asked if we wanted anything else. Our glasses were both half full at this stage. We said no thank you which resulted in another waitress casually dropping our bill on the table as she walked past followed shortly by another who hovered over us with the card machine even though we were still drinking and our taxi wasn't for another half hour and we were going to have more drinks. I said are you trying to get rid of us and she half laughed and said no you can stay as long as you like. If that was the case why are you pushing for me to pay I wondered. We quickly drank up and went to wait in the car park.

Excellent Saturday evening dinner with friends in a very friendly pub. Top quality food & wine served by cheerful and very helpful staff in a pub with a good country atmosphere. Delicious desserts far too tempting for the waistline!!

We were visiting family and they booked a table. We were a large party and had booked Sunday lunch the meal was extremely disappointing our family (6 of us)all had a roast dinner the chicken was ok bout nothing special, the lamb very fatty and chewy, the beef was tough and undercooked to what we had asked for the potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were the worse I have ever had bland, luke warm and dry and the gravy was watery and tasteless I would definitely not recommend it.

We have eaten at The Bell often and always enjoyed great food and lovely friendly service. A large group of us had new years eve here and had a fantastic night. The food really was exceptional and served perfectly. The menu was exciting and interesting with a varied selection. We were all able to choose something we were enthusiastic about and none of us were disappointed. The flavours were amazing and the quantaties just right. It's sometimes difficult to manage bigger, noiser groups, but everything was served perfectly and with smiles and good humour. We could not have had a better night out. Thank you everyone at The Bell.

What a treat to discover......Mark and Sarah have created a truly heartwarming inn for Stroud! I had French toast (eggy bread) topped with bacon (and I added poached eggs on to) with maple syrup and it was yummy! My son had the local sausages and mash and peas and he gobbled it down - that says something! I had a superb coffee with the plums poached in red wine with vanilla parfait......well, again, superb. The glass of Tatty champagne made this a very special meal indeed. Thank you Sarah! Spread the word: this is a gem for Stroud foodies! The staff (Justyna GM) were incredible.....brought us a pot of the best gravy ever for my son, and wrapped me up some unreal good mince pies to take home! Love it.

My husband and I had a rare day off without children so we decided to walk to The Bell for lunch. They had plenty of choice on the lunch menu and the portions were a good size. The food and the service were both excellent and we will certainly return (hopefully) in the future.

8 of us dined on a busy Saturday night nice buzzing atmosphere with diners and people just having a drink at the bar .The food was ok I had the burger at £14.50 along with 3 other members of the party .The burger was very tasty but crumbled apart when cut quite dry an possibly over cooked and the brioche bun top was well hard and not that nice .Also a very small quantity of fries supplied .All 4 burgers were the same so maybe that’s is the way they are !! A steak was ordered well done but came more rare .I think that for what you get it is a very expensive dining experience.I must admit the staff were fantastic and very attentive with a good sense of humour we never raised any issues with the staff as we were with people who we had not seen for 4years and did not want to cause an issue .Would I go back I-am not sure you can get better value else where Ido not mind paying good money if you get what you pay for in this instance it was just lacking !

Unfortunately we were a little disappointed with the food. Hummus didn’t taste right and veg with it was a little limp. The other dishes we had were mediocre.

Have been here many times and always excellent, and my favourite dish is the chorizo, however it was not as good this time someone been heavy handed with the chilli oil hmmmmm, it lost that savoury sweetness with background warmth and just became too hot and spicy all other dishes were fine.

Went for a meal here and although the food was tasty, I was left feeling still hungry, I don't get this Nouvelle cuisine thing, we are not in France and is a gimmick to get £18 for very little. Small amount of lamb on a small bit of mash 2 couliflower florets and an orange smear of something, I had to have a dessert to compensate, So all in all £26 pounds later dissapointed. They advised me to order more from the side dishes!!! Seriously ??

We visited at lunchtime, and came back 4 more times during our stay. The food was delicious... especially the mushroom and stilton jacket potato and salad. The staff were friendly and efficient. There is a lovely garden, and also a comfortable indoors room. You're spoilt for choice!

Wonderful little cafe. Great attention to detail. Try the sausage rolls. Brilliant. Flaky pastry with a meaty filling that’s perfectly seasoned and cooked. That and the coffee made a really nice afternoon. Lilly the waitress's was great too.she got new Ice to put in my summer berries drink because the ice they had was scrappy. Very professional cafe. Highly recommend.

What an excellent place. We arrived without a booking one afternoon to find they were almost fully booked, but they managed to squeeze us in. Really good range of choices on the menu. We both had fillet steak which were cooked to perfection and the side orders were just as good. The service was excellent . Make sure you book a table.
