We visited at lunchtime, and came back 4 more times during our stay. The food was delicious... especially the mushroom and stilton jacket potato and salad. The staff were friendly and efficient. There is a lovely garden, and also a comfortable indoors room. You're spoilt for choice!

I have never written a negative review on TripAdvisor before - I believe small businesses should be supported and the odd bit of bad customer service should be forgiven. However, the treatment we received in this shop was so bad that I cannot let it pass without a review. We’d spent the day walking and were looking for a cup of tea and a slice of cake. It was around 4pm and various other places on the High Street were shutting up. We walked into this cafe and asked whether they were shutting soon or whether we could sit down (there were no opening/closing times advertised anywhere in or outside the cafe).. The man behind the counter (who I assume is the owner - mid 50s, Irish accent) asked “what do you mean?” in an aggressive tone, and I said that we saw that other places were shutting and didn’t want to impose if they were shutting too. He kept asking “what do you mean?” and similar things, I was so confused and stunned that I didn’t know what to say. Quickly, the young waitress (who seemed lovely, and clearly used to his attitude as she seemed to know to intervene quickly) intervened to take our order. We sat down, and the owner then came over to us and continued to berate us because I was finishing a small pasty I’d bought next door. I apologised and said I thought the cafe didn’t do savoury food, but only hot drinks and cakes (which we were excited to order). He didn’t accept this, and continued to berate us, and I got the impression that he was determined to have it out with us regardless. It was so uncomfortable that we simply had to walk out - something I have never done in a cafe before. Looking back, the man had decided to take a hostile approach to us whatever we did. This was a horrible ending to an otherwise great day in and around Wotton under Edge. The area is beautiful and we hope to come back - but we’ll try one of the other cafes next time.

Having seen the three poor reviews for the Wotton Coffee Shop recently, I decided to pop in and see what had changed since my last visit. In fact very little, everything went very smoothly and everyone nearby seemed to be satisfied with the service and the food. On investigation, I found out that the young staff were new and learning their way around sometimes difficult customers, who as we know are always right. I engaged the young staff and found them to be a little shy and awkward feeling their way. Like everything in life, confidence comes with practice. Reviewing results can be cruel and misleading, lacking in balance. There is nothing wrong with the Wotton Coffee Shop that a little tolerance and friendly interaction with those that serve you would not make your visit like mine, a very pleasant one.

I'm usually very reluctant to write a negative review, but the service (or lack of) that we received at the Wotton Coffee shop was just awful. We were careful to read the instructions on the sandwich board located outside of the shop and duly followed all the required Covid processes. The board requested that we found a table and sat down as they were operating table service only. We walked in and there was no-one to take a menu from or offer any guidance. There were no customers in the indoor area, so we walked through and sat down at a table in the outdoor seating area. There was a young man who was bringing food out to some of the other tables and we figured that when he had a moment he would probably bring us a menu. We've both worked in coffee shops before, so we're very aware of being considerate to members of staff and cutting them some slack. So we patiently waited for 30 minutes, by which point many of the other customers had left. We tried to catch his eye a couple of times but he basically ignored us. He then came out to wipe some of the empty tables down ( there was only us and one other table occupied at this stage) and then we thought that once he'd finished clearing the tables he would probably give us a menu. So we waited and he still ignored us . Eventually, I literally had to walk up to him and ask for a menu. Again, I asked politely and even tried to make conversation with him. He grunted , went inside and reluctantly brought a menu. No apology or acknowledgement, or even social niceties. He walked up to the table and plonked it down in front of us without saying a word. We then had to wait another 15 minutes before he took our order and again I had to request it, otherwise I don't think he would have taken our order at all! If he was busy I could have understood a bit more ( although there will still have been no excuse for rudeness), but it was just us and one other table. When our food did eventually arrive, he again plonked it down in front of us and added "your latte will be here in a minute"in a really brusque tone. The latte arrived, without a word from him at all. I wanted to ask for some sweetener, but I literally felt too intimidated by his attitude to do so. We have never been made to feel so unwelcome in an eatery before. In retrospect, I wish I had left much earlier when we were basically ignored for 30 minutes before getting a menu. We certainly won't be going back there again, especially when there is an excellent cafe called the Edge over the other side of the street where we have always received polite and efficient service and fabulous coffee too.

We visited this coffee shop for lunch today. A waiter was taking our order and we were having a pleasant enough experience in nice surroundings and in the beautiful weather. As he was finishing up the order and reading it back to us he suddenly made a very personal and insulting remark to my sister. He must have seen our reaction and tried to pass it off with a throwaway remark “we also insult the customers”. He left the table and we sat there stunned at his remark and how casually and carelessly he tried to pass it off. We decided to leave and cancelled the order on our way out. It was an upsetting and very surprising experience to say the least. I would not recommend anyone to visit this coffee shop while this man is still employed there, he may be staff or the owner I don’t know. We set out this morning for a nice day and this visit to the coffee shop upset us not least for how callous he was. Stay away and spend your money where it is deserved. We went afterwards to The Edge in Wotton. Lovely staff and the food was wonderful. Support a local business that values its customers, not insults them!

Having spent the morning shopping locally we fancied a coffee so headed for Wotton Coffee Shop. As instructed by the chalk board outside we checked in with the NHS app. We loitered inside the entrance for a couple of minutes and after receiving no acknowledgement we wandered through to the garden and found ourself a table. A member of staff asked whether we were looking to order food and we replied that we were just here for coffee. Having gone back inside, the member of staff returned after a few minutes with the food for the next table. He apologised to them for the delay, citing that although reservations were being taken, people were just "wandering in and expecting to be served." That was as much as a hint as we needed to leave. On the way to the exit the gentleman stopped us and explained that next time it would be best to book in advance. Next time? I am confident there will not be a next time. I totally understand that since the easing of lockdown there is a lot of adjustments to be made in the way businesses operate and there are bound to be teething problems. However, there had been ample opportunity to come over and explain to us that there was a booking policy in place, rather than finding out about the dissatisfaction as we were within earshot of a table who had experienced a delay. Poor customer service. I like to find a positive most situations where possible, and on this occasion the positive is that we found ourselves trying The Edge, just across the road, where the service was excellent and we will be revisiting just as soon as we can.

We were served at our table, just a coffee. The coffee was ok - not the best I've had or not the worst! Track and trace is up and running during these COVID times. We had an hour or two before we could check in to our hotel at nearby Torton Court. Having parked in the free car park in Wotton-under-Edge, it was lovely weather for a stroll around the small town. Being on the edge of the Cotswolds, the town's main streets were quite steep and we were soon looking for refreshments somewhere not too crowded (social distancing). As we peered in the window of Wotton Coffee Shop, we could see through to their garden at the back, which suited us perfectly. We ordered at the counter before going through, a black coffee for my wife and an Earl Grey for me. There was a range of what looked like home made cakes and the friendly service tempted me to some rhubarb sponge. A couple of the well spaced tables on the lawn were occupied so we chose a table for two on the surrounding pathway. Our order was quickly brought and my cake was fresh and light. We were offered a menu in case we wanted anything more substantial. Perhaps I should have checked to see how well they could have coped with my wife's food intolerances, but we were totally happy with what we had. The garden was like a courtyard at the back of what looked like it might have been an ecclesiastical building at some time, but I couldn't find anything to show the coffee shop's earlier history. The view across the garden to the hills around was wonderful. The bill when it came was actually much less than I expected. We enjoyed our visit so much that we returned the following morning.

What a great find this place was. We were walking up the high street and stumbled upon it. The gentleman serving was so welcoming and recommended we sit in the garden - it was a lovely day and the garden area is so peaceful and tranquil. There are plenty of tables indoors too. We ordered a toastie, tuna sandwich, tea and a coffee which came to around £11. Each sandwich was beautifully presented with a salad garnish and crisps. Very good value for money and much better than having to take out a second mortgage to have coffee in one of these faceless, corporate establishments. The gentleman serving was so friendly and when we went to pay, him and his partner told us the business had been there 11 years. I can see why they've stood the test of time - fantastic service and decent food at a fair price. Well worth a visit.

(The pictures were after I cleaned milk left in the apparently clean cup) Lovely spot for a tea room and was really looking forward to some food and drinks. Great prices but service wasn't great and confusing. Unfortunately the crockery was dirty and food wasn't great. The plates of food were just placed on our table and we had to look in the toastie to see who's was who. Bit of a dated let down

We went to this coffee shop after seeing the reviews on Trip Advisor, but it didn't live up to our expectations.I wanted a jacket potato, but they had sold out of oven baked ones, so had one cooked in a microwave - not as good. We sat outside in the beautiful garden, but had to wait over 20 minutes for our drinks to be brought out to us. The server was friendly, but the service wasn't efficient. Shame.

The perfect retreat right on the Cotswold Way Walk. We stopped for coffee and cake and were delighted. Hospitable and courteous hosts served coffee just how I like it and a really good hot chocolate just how Lee wanted it (although they couldn't believe an Aussie didn't want cream or marshmallows!). The Christmas pudding cake is as good as it sounds - we had it for sort of mid year Christmas. Would recommend without question.

We popped into this wonderful coffee shop for some refreshments while touring the Cotswold. We had homemade tea cakes and my husband had. Cheese and onion toasty. The service was excellent. Staff were welcoming and friendly. To cap it off was the wonderful rear garden.

Great decor and lovely view but the roasts had tough meat, poorly cooked roast potatoes and dry yorkshires. My daughters both had children’s meals and were unimpressed with the taste of the burger or the meatballs. Service could have been improved , we were not offered condiments, they dropped the cheese on the floor for the pasta dish and did not offer a replacement or the correct cutlery. When they asked how the meal was we replied that the meat was tough and they brought over steak knives. When the hostess came over at the end of the meal she hadn’t been informed about our earlier issue. I would pop in for a drink but I wouldn’t eat here as there are many better options for Sunday lunch close by.

The Cafe has very friendly staff, lovely Americano and Decaf coffee and tasty cakes, we had lemon and raspberry and almond. Will definitely be back.

Wonderful little cafe. Great attention to detail. Try the sausage rolls. Brilliant. Flaky pastry with a meaty filling that’s perfectly seasoned and cooked. That and the coffee made a really nice afternoon. Lilly the waitress's was great too.she got new Ice to put in my summer berries drink because the ice they had was scrappy. Very professional cafe. Highly recommend.

What an excellent place. We arrived without a booking one afternoon to find they were almost fully booked, but they managed to squeeze us in. Really good range of choices on the menu. We both had fillet steak which were cooked to perfection and the side orders were just as good. The service was excellent . Make sure you book a table.
