Well the cafe has some marvellous cakes - the flapjack was absolutely delicious1 You can also take them away. Be aware that they close promptly by 4pm so dont leave ordering too late. There are some nice gifts in the shop - I bought incense for presents. If you want to see the monastery chapel be aware that it is nowhere near to the car park and cafe - if you like a walk that is fine, if your mobility is limited there is space to park up near the monastery itself. The walled garden looked rather sad!

a wonderfully quiet and peaceful place. The monastery garden is really worth seeing and the honey produced here is sold in the cafe. The food was great, we were here for breakfast and lunch. Everyone is very nice, the toilets are extremely clean. The shop has a selection of regional products and monastery items. we'd love to come back!

Love this place. Great atmosphere, decent food and lovely surroundings. It's the place to be for a Catholic in need of a hot drink and a bite to eat. There are scripture reflections on each table, Gregorian chant playing in the background, a picture if the Pope on the wall and a great gift shop where you can purchase icons, books, music, rosaries and incense made at the abbey. Love it.

Went with disabled mum and dogs, only option was to sit in cold concrete entrance with the dogs. Not great. Update: From the response it seems that a lot is done for dogs and disabled, which is commendable. It doesn't change the fact that our only option was to sit in the reception area, supposedly the same temperature as the cafe according to this response, however there are doors into the cafe from this area asking you too keep them closed to keep the heat in the cafe. In summer I am sure the experience would be different. I appreciate the response and everything that is being done, it doesn't take away from our experience though.

What an amazing find, this shop and cafe, with a large car park, situated in beautiful surroundings, near to the Pranknash monastery/Abbey. Staff were so kind and accommodating! We were on retreat in the café rooms, decorated with the most beautiful paintings, the food was scrummy, they also provided gluten and dairy free cakes for myself, so fresh and delicious. I highly recommend you visit!!! Beautiful things on all sale in the café area.

I visited here with a friend who was just passing through on a journey going South and I was looking for somewhere me and my dog could go to meet them. It was a lovely day and there were quite a few people about but despite the cafe being quite busy it was running to perfection. There wasn't a long wait and everyone looked happy to be there. There were water bowls for dogs and even a jar with dog treats in. My friend loved it and it will be my go to meet up place. Big car park, lots of seating which covers all bases. Some shade, some in the sun, some on grass. Will definitely visit again

What a beautiful find, lovely, welcoming atmosphere, and dogs catered for with water bowls dotted around the outside seating and doggy treats available to buy inside the cafe. Visited for the first time in over 30 years since we have so many happy memories of visiting with grandparents. Unfortunately they lake and animals are not longer there. Even the big shop has been reduced. Used to love buying the pottery produced on site. The gardens were beautiful but felt that it's only receiving love after years of neglect. The cakes in the cafe looked delicious. Would be nice if more local gifts were available to buy not much available compared to the past. Do they sell plants? Since it looked like a stall used to be outside the Walled garden entrance? If you want a tranquil stress free place this is definitely a good place to visit. Hearing the running water from the streams, maybe making the pond/ lake Safe would be beneficial for future projects.

We visited as it was on route and we wanted somewhere to stop for and hour or so for a short walk and a drink. It is free to park and to enter. Much of the grounds are open to walk around as is the walled garden and the chapel - the abbey itself is private. After a very pleasant half hour wander we went into the cafe - the cakes looked very nice but we weren't hungry so just had a tea and coffee and then bought some honey (made at the abbey) and some cider (made at another abbey!) Definitely worth a visit if in the area.

Clean and tidy. Great cakes. Peaceful feel. A friend and I stopped in for drinks and cake on a warm Friday afternoon. The inside felt bright and airy with plenty of well spaced seating. Outside was a limited amount of traditional tables and chairs with some pub type bench tables. There was a peaceful air of calm about the whole place, inside and out. Staff were welcoming and efficient. Our order was taken quickly and delivered to us when ready. Latte coffee was sweet and not too strong. The tea came in a two cup pot with just enough milk. The cakes are made locally and, according to a friendly chatty server there, some are made by employees. The coffee and walnut cake melted in the mouth, ditto the Victoria sponge. All very traditional fare and indeed the clientele were towards the “more mature” end of the age range. We arrived at about 2.45 and the place filled up quickly soon after. Prices weren’t too bad given the quality: £15 for two hot drinks, two cake portions and a couple of unusual soft drinks from an almost local company (Bristol). There’s ample free parking a short walk from the café. The location means that the ground slopes a lot. There are ramps, some with handrails, down to the café but care is still needed especially in wet or icy weather. The turning into the site is on a twisting A road. Easy for locals but visitors from farther afield might want to plan ahead and check the route on a map, preferably using Streetview.

The food is okay but in general the staff are very arrogant... it takes no time to be acknowledged that you are waiting to be served at the till and/but the staff are busy. I have no problem waiting but to be ignored/not acknowledged is rude... I have been here many times and it doesn't change. I'm not bothering to go there again as I was trying to give the benefit of doubt. I have infact advised one of the monks of this and to be honest he wasn't interested..... The atmosphere is one of stuck up Catholicism in cafe by the staff and patrons ... Being brought up in Catholicism myself I'm glad I gave it up along time ago as these are very false persons....

The Canteen has Grown so big now they can’t cope with cooked food orders. Remembrance Sunday lunch (with a starving baby) we waited 45 minutes and was served one meal at a time with intervals of 5 minutes. Waitresses were sweet but too few for the size, the manager extremely rude and shameful - asked us to leave when we complained. So many others complained and asked for refunds so we weren’t alone. Will never go again -
