A beautiful pub with a friendly welcome and superb food. Started with a glass of fizz in the bar and met Zack. A very sharp dresser and equally sharp wit! The manager was very welcoming and we enjoyed a good chat with him. I had the Porchetta which they make themselves and was fabulous. They also have a great choice of wine, which they sell for takeaway as well so of course we bought a couple! We stayed over in the suite and it is a beautiful room. Everything you needed from hairdryer to a fridge. They even give you fresh milk which is a lovely touch! The bathroom was quite large and housed a bath and shower cubicle. Big fluffy white towels to wrap yourself in. Breakfast was very good I had the smoked haddock and my partner the full English. With plenty of toast, croissants and tea/coffee available. And then we met the owner Peter. He was the perfect gentleman and thanked us for coming and for being nice to his staff. He is also very knowledgeable with the wine so my partner enjoyed a good old chat with him. We will definitely be back for more delicious food, great chatter and of course superb wines.

It had been while since we last visited the Bell. Simon looked after us primarily, along with some of the other team members. I know it was busy, but apart from Simon, the others just seemed to be distant, sadly not very friendly or welcoming. The table, I think it was number 11, was very uncomfortable. It is one of the tables on the side of the restaurant, where one of you has to sit on a window seat, therefore you are higher than the table. Plus, the table had a wooden bar so you could not face the table to eat. Not recommended. The cheese soufflé to start was very tasty. The Luxury Fish Pie was a bit of a disappointment, lots of potato, not a lot of fish. The Pie was very good, Chicken and not venison as told. The wine choice on the menu, as well as on the Wine Wall has always been exceptional. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of Brunello di Montalcino, very reasonably priced. Sadly the evening was somewhat spoilt by a very loud table of 6 in the corner, who felt the need to speak at the top of their voices. We clearly understood they were celebrating a 39th birthday, as the squeaky women at the head of the table kept repeating...

My husband and I with my brother and wife who were visiting from New Zealand had a delicious lunch at The Bell on Monday. We had not visited before but were not disappointed. The pub is beautiful, loads of character, charm and a beautiful beer garden to the front. The service we received from both of the team working front of house was top notch. Professional, attentive and charming. Finally the food was delicious, presented beautifully, fresh and plenty of choice. I would definitely recommend The Bell and have already done so to my work colleagues. We look forward to returning soon thank you x

We visited The Bell at Sapperton this evening but, sadly, several elements of the meal were quite disappointing. The squid starter was served missing the Thai slaw (no explanation or apology were given). Although we were told that it could be served with our main course! The John Dory main course included a tiny piece of fish (two bites) which was overcooked sitting alongside a hard potato “fondant”. A poor dish. And the pear frangipane dessert appeared to contain no obvious trace of pear (although it tasted good). We were offered a free coffee to compensate for the missing slaw. However the damage was already done and we will not be returning.

We were slightly disappointed. The ambiance was great, the service was perfect and the drinks and puddings were very good. But the beef … it was pink which I prefer but my friend doesn’t; and it was tough and chewy. We should have had the pork.

I’ve been coming here off and on for 20 years, but I’ve been in few times lately and been struck by how great the staff are. Yesterday there was a lovely Italian serving behind the bar and today I believe I was served by the manager. He has a strong personality and is very welcoming and friendly. What’s most impressive about this pub is that they have eschewed eating in the front bar to create a local village pub feel, which this pub in the past lacked under different management. It’s obviously to the detriment of profit- most pubs squeeze every last drop out of the customers when it comes to gastro eating- but this pub has decided it wants to serve the locals for drinks and keep people happy in the restaurant area. Simple but effective. A wonderful pub.

We had an absolutely delicious evening meal at The Bell on a cold Monday night in January when many other eateries were closed. The mackerel pate was beautifully creamy and served with very nice bread, my husband found the steak tender and flavoursome and the chicken special was very tasty. The service from Sienna was exceptional - friendly, helpful and polite….when I didn’t order a dessert, she brought me a complimentary little brownie and ice cream with a candle in, as it was my birthday! Have frequented the Bell numerous times as it's close to Cirencester and we love the village of Sapperton and its surrounding walking area. Spent NY day for our anniversary and we had an absolutely fantastic time. The food was delicious, service (as always) was brilliant, staff are incredibly attentive even with a full pub, pure class. We were even surprised with a little anniversary dessert, something they really didn't need to do but we hugely appreciated it as the Bell has become one of our favourites in the local area. They seem to retain excellent staff, something I'm sure isn't easy in today's hospitality industry. Thanks for a lovely lunch, we'll be back!

A great venue for an overnight stay in an idyllic Cotswold country setting. Beautiful ambience in both the restaurant and bar, with a very warm welcome from the staff. Nice room in keeping with the property - with an all-important modern bathroom. The only criticism would be that the bed mattrass was too hard so not a perfect night's sleep. Breakfast was outstanding - the full English had top quality ingredients. Would definitely return.

We had an excellent Sunday Roast Lunch for two. One lamb and one Beef. I cannot fault the service. I read reviews and I am surprised by the negative comments, I truly believe the patrons / customers are not living in the real world and should I say go to a buffet restaurant or a Toby Carvery. Everything is expensive, we should support local restaurants and pubs. If you truly experienced a poor experience, ask to speak with the manager, not go home and then decide to air your views later! Back to my review, lucky enough to be able to visit again. Can I remind you that the restaurant gets busy Friday, Saturday and Sunday ( on my previous visit, we just turned up but unable to get a table)

Visiting area. Booked for 1745-thought it strange no later tables (but busy is usually good!). Arrived at 1748-manager had already called to see where we were! (Sat nav). On the website it states 15minutes is cut off time. Greeted by waitress saying we must order right away-hadn’t sat at the table yet! Sat at table, husband told to order asap as kitchen closing. Average meal-beef was raw/chewy. Lamb was tasty though. Completed meal in 30 minutes from walking through the door. Not relaxing. Please, don’t book customers at this time if you don’t want them there! Why not make the last booking time earlier to avoid hassling diners to finish their experience before it’s even begun?

MORE AT TripAdvisor

The Bell is a lovely Cotswold stone pub - surprisingly spacious inside, and charming inside and out - in an absolutely lovely spot in a very quiet Gloucestershire village about twenty minutes from Cirencester and a similar distance from Stroud. You can pop in for a pint - there were people sitting in the garden with their dogs, chatting - but we went to eat. We sat in the garden first, after ordering a very well-made negroni and a pint of Stroud Brewery's excellent Budding pale ale, before going inside for dinner. As well as the usual wine list, they have a 'wine wall' with twenty or thirty wines which you can buy to drink at the table or take home; we ordered a bottle of Chateau Mouras Graves 2018 for £44 (I think £32.50 if you bought it to drink off the premises). In a wine shop this would cost in the order of £22-24, so while £44 on one level seems expensive it's actually reasonable - pubs and restaurants have to make a profit, and mark-ups on wine, often greater in percentage terms than this, is one way to do so. It was an extremely nice bottle, too (and obviously there are cheaper - and more expensive - options), so absolutely no complaints there. No complaints at all, actually; our only (mild) criticism is that the menu is slightly limited and not tremendously exciting but our meals arrived in good time and were very well-cooked and tasty. The menu is said to change monthly with the seasons but the online menu (still showing September) is almost the same as least night's (October). This might be something to look at. The front of house and waiting staff were absolutely excellent. All in all, very good.

We have been here a couple of times and it’s never really been great. We thought we would try one last time and it turned out to be the biggest failure of all. Talk about expensive. £30 for a double burger. We waited 2 hours for our food and the waiter told us ‘ we have a big table in’ which consisted of 3 adults and 3 kids. Hmmm. The Pills lager was 3.8% vol and cost £5.90. Basically overpriced coloured water. Overpriced, slow service and all in all a poor effort. No wonder the British pub industry is dying. I’d rate it 0/5 if I could.

The full Cotswold Oldy Worldy atmosphere and furniture, but woeful food. My Sunday lunch smoked mackerel pate - I think that was what it was - was devoid of any detectable flavour and had an unpleasant mouthfeel. This is a really welcome, beautifully renovated addition to the area. A warm and friendly local with stone walls and open fires. Food is very good, modern pub style at a very reasonable price for The Cotswolds. Staff are very friendly and efficient and the clientele are a great combination of locals at the bar, people eating and walkers, cyclists etc calling in for a pint. Been several times since it reopened and all have been good.

We had a stay for two nights with two rooms, dinner on evening one and two breakfasts. Positive Points 1. Quality steak 2. Delicious mackerel starter Negative Points 1. Cold and unwelcoming 2. Dirty tables and cutlery 3. Very long wait for food and nobody checked if everything was ok 4. Different change for same drinks every time. 5. No staff....one person does everything! 6. Filthy bedrooms, thick with dust and cobwebs 7. Rooms full of broken items ...mirrors, blinds 8. No slip mat provided for elderly people, so unable to have a shower (my mum was told to throw a towel in the bath!) 9. Extremely old mattress, lumpy and uncomfortable, old duvet with lumps and bumps 10. Linen bundles and beer barrels left outside rooms and at bottom of the stairs...huge fire and safety risk 11. Limited breakfast and very small quantity 12. Coffee and tea not restocked, dirty cups left in room and bed not made 13. Bathroom was rusty, filthy and hadn't been cleaned. Toilets were still dirty from previous guests.
