The Bell in Shropshire

The pub is a lovely to relax and enjoy a late lunchtime meal . We didn’t have to wait long for a drinks order to be taken by Harvey and also the food order . The assistant manager Tamara and Harvey were very polite and attentive during our stay.

Very quiet and few staff on duty - so service was slow Main meal looked lost on a large plate and steak was overcooked Dessert would have been ok if it had not been superheated in a microwave meaning soggy crumble and dangerously hot apple within Overall high priced mediocre food. We won’t return!

Great place to take your dog, couldn’t fault the staff/food. We had a lovely evening thank you, Walter our rotty was in his element. Soon to be back!

On arrival we went to the bar as there was no obvious place to let us know where to check in. We were told to go round the corner to the welcome desk where we should wait. The welcome place always used to be at the front so it could be seen as soon as you walk through the door which made more sense. We finally got shown to our table, where we were given menus and told that there was no scampi, no fish and only 1 halloumi skewer. We had to wait to order our drinks, then another wait to order food , it wasn’t very busy so am not sure why it took so long. The main meal was nice, but the dessert was small and very overpriced. The service was slow, and staff made no apology for the wait, we were given large soft drinks, not given the choice to have regular, it was difficult to try and get staff attention as they were not very visible. Overall, a disappointing visit, I’m not sure if there’s been a change of owner or manager, but I don’t think we will be in a rush to return, which is a shame as we did like to visit The Bell

Visited on a Tuesday evening about 6pm. It was very quiet and had few customers. The food was good as was the service. However they only had 1 cask ale on sale and it was awful...£5.30 per pint. I wont go back.

The Bell being a lovely looking pub, and after my Dad had mentioned how nice the food was, me and the Mrs decided to go for lunch on Sunday afternoon. We arrived and were welcomed warmly, taken to a lovely table in the 'conservatory' part of the restaurant. The menu included some absolute treats on there but in the end we opted for a Sunday dinner each, I had turkey the Mrs had the beef. Both of us sat there and were pretty blown away by the quality of the ingredients and the cooking, I was a chef for ten years and her Dad was one (who taught her). We had a glass of Rioja each which was lovely, though we did realise we should have just paid £4 more and got the bottle - schoolboy error. The waitress's were attentive and extremely polite, the atmosphere was great, got a little discount with a voucher which always helps, especially in the current climate of life, but the meal provided some serious value for money. We don't do Sunday dinners out much, but this really was one of the best we'd had in a really, really long time. All in all it was a fantastic meal, in a really wonderful setting and we can't wait to get back. Cheers to all the staff and chefs for a brilliant afternoon.

I visited The Bell as part of a large family group in early January. The pub is lovely but there was some issues with the food that left me a bit disappointed. I ordered prawn cocktail, which the menu said came with bread and salted butter. My food arrived and there was no butter on the plate. I asked the waiter if he could bring me some, only to be told ‘we’re all out of butter until we get a delivery’. What’s that about? It was a Saturday in early January and we were a booked party of 11, so they knew we were coming and butter is a pretty basic component. I was a bit miffed at his answer and even more so when attempting to eat the dry, hard bread. I feel the waiter should have told me that one component of the advertised dish was not available at the point I ordered, so I had the option to choose something else, but that didn’t happen. That said, the prawn cocktail itself was fresh and tasty, I was just disappointed overall. I had then ordered the Hunters chicken, along with 2 other members of my family. I didn’t particularly care for this dish unfortunately. The chicken was overcooked and tough. There wasn’t much cheese on it and the bbq sauce was too sweet and overpowering. For such a basic dish, I and the other people who had it were disappointed. Some other family members enjoyed the dishes they had ordered and therefore, the negatives I experienced were not universal. The staff were polite and friendly but I wouldn’t rush back I’m afraid.

We have regularly visited the bell at tong over the last 7 years, our very first date was here. On the Friday before Christmas we booked last minute as a family of three with our little 7 month old baby boy. The service is always exceptional, the food delicious with well sized portions and the pub has a lovely atmosphere. The owner was lovely, taking the time to chat to us about our son. The bell at tong is well worth a visit, you will not be disappointed.

This was our second visit on the way to the midlands and once again great food and great service, especially by Tamara. Highly recommended!

Amazing Sunday lunch the trio Sunday roast was perfect lovely roast potatoes, all the meat were tender and the Yorkshire were massive. Served hot. Fast friendly service

Much better than average pub lunch. The staff were lovely, the place spotless, and we'd have loved to sit in the beer garden, had July been cooperating. The Bell is becoming our go-to place for a lazy lunch out.

Tamara was so helpful from start to finish. She recommended some lovely sounding dishes to my friend who is gluten free. We had a great experience. Food is good quality and we took advantage of the fizz Friday offer! Thank you for such a lovely experience!

Despite the fact that the team were struggling with stock shortages (no chunky chips, no chicken/chorizo kebabs, sea bass etc) they did extremely well to make sure all patrons were well looked after and fed and watered appropriately, despite some grumpy customers, it’s always a nice atmosphere in The Bell and long nay it continue…. With Chunky chips of course 👍

Belated birthday and Father’s Day meal. The pub appeared fairly quiet and a few patrons were having a meal in the bar area, I would say no more than 20 people in total. Waited a good ten minutes to be seen, the bar person was serving customers. Eventually a young man approached and took us to our table. He indicated that there were no kebabs or koftas nor any chunky chips. This was a Saturday evening so a little surprised as it was not that busy, presumably the kebab and chips brigade had been in earlier. Waited about 15 minutes before a waitress came for our drinks order. Perused the menu for another 30 minutes, I decided to find where the drinks were. The drinks arrived shortly after, along with a waitress to take our order. First course eventually arrived and had some changes with no red pepper sauce for the arancini, good old Branston was substituted. Calamari came with no sauce nor lemon wedge. Main course was OKish, but one dish, the Sea Bass was very disappointing. Two tiny fillets on a pile of crushed potatoes and peas as an accompaniment. If you like peas or green beans this is the place for you. Overall a very disappointing time was had by all. For two courses for 3 people the bill was over £130 with 6 drinks in total. I would not recommend.

Have they had another management change? From the start, dirty glass, replaced by another dirty glass “oh, they’re all like that, they’re old”, thick dust on glass shelves, dust on coffee machine, cobwebs on curtains (such a shame after having a refurb). First staff member we saw on entering was scruffily dressed even for bar work. Someone needs to take ownership of the cleanliness and staff here. Made me wonder what the kitchen must be like? Food was okay, standard bland chain pub affair, same wherever you go. Wine, large glass of rose, £8.50. £8.50!!! Lunch time fish & chips for two came to a whopping over £58 and thats’ with the standard 30% discount. The Bell has a habit of going up and downhill with each management change. This place needs another management change Marstons.

My wife and I went for an anniversary meal. Lovely mains delivered. Serice was ok. Let down exceptionally by over priced starter which is not enjoyed and very poorly presented. Did highlight this to the waiter to tell Chef but had no feedback. Experience spoiled.

Food quality has improved since refurb. Food is priced reasonable, especially if you have voucher code. Drinks are to expensive in my opinion. Friendly staff and good service.

We hadn’t booked anywhere for lunch, and discovered that most places were full, since it was a bank holiday Monday. However, the Bell Inn seemed to have a few spaces, fortunately. Despite being busy, the service was extremely efficient, and we didn’t have to wait long. The food was great, and there was ample vegetarian choice. There is ample parking, front and rear. We hope to return soon.

Me and my dinner guest really enjoyed the food- classic burger and lasagne with side of chips. Staff were great; attentive but unobtrusive which is appreciative. Price is very reasonable. Would definitely recommend.

Having had poor weather recently my wife and I decided to “pop in” to the Bell at Tong returning from shopping in Telford. The sun was shining, it was warm and we looked forward to a pleasant drink in their lovely garden. The pleasure was sadly dimmed when we were charge £15.75 for One 250ml glass of Merlot and One pint of what was a pretty non descript IPA. How can they justify those prices? I asked the lady at the bar if that was correct and to confirm the price of the wine. She said yes and it was £9.75 for the glass of Merlot. So £6 for the IPA? Yes. Disgraceful prices. We will not return in a hurry. If ever. At our local club with a garden we could have had two drinks for that money. Very disappointing.

Have been before and very happy. Last week was another story - food ok but could have been hotter. Manageress very pleasant but our waitress (she knows who I mean) was confrontational, rude and unwelcoming. They were busy but other staff coped; table next to us had starters and main course while waited and waited……… She spoilt the whole meet with friends and none of us will go there again.

We were greeted on arrival and taken to our table. We had to wait a while before we could order drinks, and then another wait before ordering food. It was also a long wait for our food to come, in fact a table by us were seated, served and had their food all while we were waiting. Our waitress, Liz, didn’t seem to be very aware of our wait, or look bothered. That said, we have eaten here before and the service is usually great, even when it’s busy. The food was piping hot, very nice.

We’ve been coming here on and off for a fair few years. Last night after dreadful treatment from a pub on the A5 we came here hoping they could fit us in. Luckily they could fit us in. We were shown to a pleasant dining area and our drinks orders were taken. Soon after that our food order was taken. Pleased to say our meals arrived within minutes as we were both really hungry having been kept waiting for 50 minutes at the previous pub. Everything was freshly cooked and our plates were soon cleared. All the staff are cheerful and caring, very professional.

Very disappointing I'm afraid. I ordered goujons, chips and peas from the set lunch menu. What arrived was a very small "children's portion" size meal. The goujons were overcooked and dry. This was made worse by the fact on the previous Friday my granddaughter had ordered exactly the same meal from the children's menu at a restaurant a few miles away and ended up with a bigger, better cooked meal for half the price. Our waiter was curt to the point of being rude. The food is not good and I cannot recommend this restaurant.

I visited the Bell at Tong for lunch with a friend. I hadn't been there for some years, but it was more or less as I remembered it. The pub is in a good setting, though beside a busy main road. We sat in the conservatory, where most of the diners were. The welcome was professional and encouraging and we were shown straight to our table. The staff seemed friendly and competent. Ordering was dealt with smoothly and the food arrived in good time. The menu is not over extensive and gives a good choice of dishes, including vegetarian and vegan food. The food when it came was at the right temperature and was tasty and good. Would I go to the Bell again? Yes, probably. Thank you

I stopped off to use the electric charger in the car park while travelling. The pub was quite busy but I found a table in the bar. There is a decent choice of drinks. The food is pretty standard pub fare, nothing special but nothing wrong with it either.

Stopped here for a Sunday lunch. What was served was very poor. The meat was dry, rock hard roast potatoes, soggy vegetables and I have no words to describe the Yorkshire pudding. Won’t be returning and certainly wouldn’t recommend eating here.
