Lovely country pub. When weather is warmer we'll come back to enjoy the sun terrace upstairs, it has a lovely view!

Kim, I and the dogs, Monty and Stanley visited on Friday 17th May before walking Monty and Stanley along the canal. I had telephoned earlier to see if the pub was dog friendly and spoke to Cath. It was and Cath greeted us as soon as we entered, recalling my telephone call. She was friendly, charming and so welcoming and, after we had our drinks and settled, she made a fuss of the dogs and provided water and biscuits. The menu is excellent and very competitively priced. Kim had a Mature Cheddar Cheese and Caramelised Chutney Sandwich and Chips while I opted for a Fully Loaded Chips with Cheese and Bacon. Both were delicious and the flavour of the double cooked chips was excellent. The Original Ball is spacious and light, with beams and flagstone flooring. The owner has done a brilliant job refurbishing the pub/restaurant and Cath was the perfect host today. Thank you.

We stopped by this quaint country pub along the way to our destination. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, the waitress came over to check everything was okay with our food while we were having our meal. The food was excellent and had a good selection of drinks, not to mention they are dog friendly. I would happily come back again.

Passed by this pub many times and finally got to visit and have lunch. The pub was disappointing, no atmosphere, it's like being in a works canteen, very big, clean and tidy, newly decorated with old materials but it just doesn't work! The lady at the bar was lovely, helpful and cheerful, she deserves to be in better premises.

Only allowed two of the three meats and not carved in front of the customer. Limited vegetables. However good starters and deserts.

I want to give this place 5 stars but I can’t. The surroundings and the staff were lovely. It’s been decorated really nicely with lovely wood burning stove. However, the food wasn’t great - the roast was very overcooked. Most importantly though there was no vegetarian option! In 2024 this isn’t ok.

The place has undergone a major refurb which took a bit of getting used to compared with how it was previously - quite open plan now. Meanwhile Sunday lunch was plentiful, reasonably priced, and served with a smile. Apple pie dessert was very nice indeed! Could maybe do with another ale or two.

Great to see that The Original Ball Inn pub restaurant is finally up and going after a major restoration project. Looking stunning and so much character with warm decor inside, wooden tables, heavy beamed, woodburner which no doubt in winter will be warm and cosy. Didn't have a meal here as just wanted to pop in to see what they've done since all the build works and rebranding. My pint of Butty Bach in a handle pint glass was perfect. Will pop in again for a meal and a pint. Well done and thanks to you for a lovely friendly experience and visit .

We went about 7.30 . Good menu I had lasagne very tasty my husband had hunters chicken . Barmaid was so efficient smiley made you feel very welcome. Food nicely presented and nice. Average price I would recommend .also ring because I forgot to look at opening times they don't open all the week xx

if i could give this 0 stars i would our order did not get past to the kitchen had now food had to walk out after 90mins total disaster this was on a sunday lunchtime don't eat or go here

Thought this would be a lovely historical pub, but it's been gutted to a modern standard and lost its historical charm inside. Very low ceiling for someone over 6 feet. Asked for a tomato juice with ice but was told they didn't stock it and the ice machine was broken. Decided to use the outside tables as it was a hot evening. Unfortunately, no effort had been made to add an atmosphere outside with solar lights or an awning. The cheap rattan furniture was unravelling in places. Gravel underfoot. A view of either the road or the car park. Disappointed.

Thought we would have a meal at The Original Ball tonight, boy am I so glad we did. Absolutely beautiful food that all four of us had. Good atmosphere with 80's music gently in the background but still able to talk and understand each other. Lovely pub inside too decorated very nicely with lovely staff.

Quite simply the best steak I have ever eaten. The building is beautiful, the customer service is phenomenal, and I cannot praise the chef enough. 1000% recommended

Absolutely horrific! Do not go here. Table booked with plenty of notice for 16 people for Sunday lunch. Was like they were surprised and not prepared at all. Table booked for 1pm. They had run out of lots of menu items and drinks considering there were only 2 other people eating at the other side of the restaurant and it was very quiet. Ran out of risotto, sauvignon blanc, pinot grigio, one type of beer, a couple of dessert options. Meat was incredibly dry, beef was grey, roast potatoes were like leather. They forgot 2 of our starters and most of our cutlery, we had to ask for knives and forks. Hardly any staff there at all. Food was cold and gravy was like water. Cauliflower cheese was overcooked cauliflower with cheese grated over the top, no cream and was totally dried out. Nice place to look at and very well done inside but food and service absolutely horrendous!! None of us will be returning at all.

The Original Ball Inn offers good food, good company and a memorable experience. The Inn needs to be discovered because its a hideaway, therefore a great place for a romantic get away, definitely a place to be enjoyed.

Very relaxed surroundings the sunday lunch was excellent as well as the desert was gogeous. Lovely waiter too! Shame you have to pay seperately for drinks at the bar

We were a party of four and some of the food was really good and some was mediocre. The steaks were a good size and tender, but lacked flavour. The starters were excellent with good choice. The place lacked atmosphere and the metal chairs were really uncomfortable and unsuitable for the rest of the decor. I mentioned the chairs to the waiter (owner?) and he said if the food was good, people would sit on cardboard boxes! Perhaps they would, but you don't say this to a customer. Service was a bit slow and it's a bit annoying not being able to put your drinks and food on one bill. Place has potential - may go there again.

We were a group of 8 staying in the accommodation above the pub and arrived late on a Friday, so decided to dine at the pub.

Lovely setting in the north Shropshire countryside, the Original Ball pub and restaurant were a great find more or less on our doorstep. Attentive service and relaxed and homely atmosphere made the visit extra special. Good choice of fresh cooked food on the menu with myself and my husband choosing the 2 courses for £18 offer that is available until the end of May. 3 courses available for £22. Duck and hoisin stack and fried whitebait were well presented, tasty starters and the beer battered cod and rump steak were amazing main courses. Sadly too full for dessert but hopefully next time. Dom was a great host and made sure we were happy with our meals. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Will be returning soon for their 3 course Sunday lunch for £20 which is apparently very popular which I can well believe if the standard of tonight's meal is anything to go by.

I was a little disappointed by this place after hearing rave reviews. The service was a bit amateurish, and the food a little limited in choice and lacklustre. For the quality I thought it was overpriced. Service was not particularly snappy. At one point a Christmas carol came on and that was a little odd as it was May. These little attentions to detail, marred my experience and I will not go back. I think the pub must sublet the restaurant as the billing system is to get drinks at the bar and pay separately for food. One member of our party was ill after eating.

We have recently moved to the area and decided to try out The Original Ball. We were greeted by friendly staff, and shown to a table. We had a lovely meal on the Saturday night- Homemade mushroom soup, steak and all the trimmings and sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for me , my wife had mushrooms with Stilton on brioche (which was absolutely delicious) steak, and lemon meringue pie. We don’t usually have 3 courses but with the special offer of 3 courses for £22 who could resist! We enjoyed it so much we took my father in law there for another 3 course special for £20, on the Sunday evening and enjoyed a huge Sunday roast and was treated equally as well again. We will definitely be making this our local, and thoroughly recommend the pub and restaurant.

The Ball (as it’s known locally) has over the years developed a good reputation for its food offering good hearty pub grub, but recently it has ( since the new landlord) upped its game.

We have been to the Ball before and knew it had recently changed hands but decided to give it a go. The restaurant and bar are run separately so you cannot order food and drinks together on the same bill which is a bit inconvenient. The menu is 2 courses for £18 with no individual prices for dishes, which I thought was expensive for pub food. My husbands fish was tiny with loads of chips. My burger was very nice but not cheap at all. Don't think we would go back as there are much better options at a lower price.

Really visited the Original Ball. Very very nice ...the bar and restaurant are in the same place but you have to pay for your drinks and food separately. The have changed decor for the better. Thankfully they have put locks on the ladies loo always...

Stopped off for a drink but they had an offer on roast baps so i had a pork one and my wife had beef. They were fantastic and came with a few roast spuds and a yorkshire pudding. I will go again.

Have eaten in the restaurant and had a bar snack on separate occasions , cannot recommend enough the wonderful food and service. Food and drink served by very obliging happy people.

We visited for the second time Friday 17th Nov with friends and were not disappointed.The staff were very pleasant. We all had steak. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and will be returning.

Asador muy agradable. Opción de carne, Pavo o cerdo. Mucha variedad de verduras. Pizcas dulces pegajosos pud poco limitado en microondas también había sido largo, así que no pegajoso en la cima pero sólido. Tuvimos que pedir camarera para lista de dulces. Parecía ser un montón de personal pero no sobre muy atento.

Tomó algunos amigos para comer el domingo y me pareció tan buena como habíamos oído. Asador excelente, opción de tres carnes y un montón de verduras frescas. Dos de nosotros tuvimos la carne muy tierna y los otros dos tenían el cerdo igualmente la licitación. Muy buenas porciones de tamaño y a un precio razonable. Total pasar, incluyendo dos pintas de cerveza y dos G y T's era de menos de 55 libras! ! Sin duda, volveremos.

Hemos visitado este restaurante varias veces durante los últimos dos años ya que permiten perros, lo que es una gran ventaja para mí, sin embargo, han empezado a notar que el estándar de la comida ha comenzado a disminuir. La última vez que visité el martes noche fue 'bigged Pizza" por el bar, así que pensamos probarlo esta noche. Qué decepción enorme. . . . Las pizzas estaban sirve. en tablas de pino que fueron evaluados de uso anterior. . . La mía tenía una enorme grieta que contengan sólo Dios sabe cómo las bacterias. Las pizzas estaban casi incomible de hecho tanto mi amigo y yo dejamos a más de la mitad, ya que no se justifica el esfuerzo de comer ellos. La corteza era insípida y duro a pesar de ser de la variedad finas el llenado de escaso y también insípido. . . . . . . Soy vegetariano y pedimos el maíz en mina, pero me dijeron que se había acabado. . . Fueron totalmente carente de sabor. . . . . Muchos de queso, pero este era insípida. . . . Todo el asunto. Tenía una afinidad con cartón de color. Luego para colmo de males, cuando solicite una segunda pinta de Lima y soda me dijeron que no les quedaba de lime cordial también. Ahora hemos cruzado la pelota fuera por desgracia nuestra lista y no se comer allí de nuevo en el futuro.

Llamado en la posibilidad de que el 4 de nosotros pudimos conseguir una comida. estaban completos, pero encontraron una mesa en el bar. Todos teníamos el pescado y patatas fritas. Con guisantes y ensalada. Todo era elaborados. Este antiguo pub solía ser tan descuidado, pero ahora es preciosa. Los nuevos propietarios han realmente lo arregló. Se lo recomiendo a cualquiera. El estuvó rubarb también era un auténtico lujo. El servicio era amable y eficiente. En resumen, una velada encantadora.

Encontramos este pub después de estar todo el día fuera y necesita de una buena cena temprano. El pub en sí es excelente. Gran aparcamiento. Muchas mesas variadas dentro. El personal era muy servicial. Camarera era excelente. Nos quedamos con los 2 campos por £9 comida. Qué relación calidad-precio excelente. Un par de nosotros tenía el curry - encantadora. Todos nosotros pasamos las patatas fritas caseras cortadas a mano - te hacen toda la diferencia en la comida excelente. El hongo entrante ajo era hermoso. Menú dulce es bueno y no demasiado caro. Si en el área de nuevo sin duda visitar.

Visitamos el pub durante un viaje a Shropshire. Era un miércoles por la noche y bastante tranquilo y cómodo. La comida era buena y teníamos la oferta con un budín de gratis, que era muy razonable. Volvería de nuevo si en la zona.

I hadn't been in the ball for years an it's hardly changed since then.Myself I went as part of the 2 meals for £9 deal which is over tues/wed/thurs, I had the homemade curry myself which had a nice little kick to it nothing to hot but for me it almost needed thickening up the sauce as very little taste to it an a little watery when tried it, however this did not put me off my meal portion sizes are excellent my son had burger chips an beans of which I ended up eating half the burger as it was a double burger and he was also happy when his ice cream came out for his pudding which was included in his price of £4:95.My parent had the salmon fillet and the gammon of which both said were very nice.It was very noisy when we went as we were unfortunate that there must of been a funeral during the day so alot ploughed into the bar an a few in lounge this didn't put me off my meal at all and I would gladly go back for another mealMaybe try the sunday carvery next time.

Me and my wife came in for a meal on Saturday evening as a one off as we rarely go out having heard good word about the place. We had 2 mushroom starters in a garlic creamy sauce, was very delicious, not excessive garlic which nobody likes either. Then for mains we both had two fillets, cooked absolutely perfectly and presented very well. I also must add that the seasoning on the meat was beautiful, very lightly salt and peppered which made the fillet melt in your mouth. Waitresses were very polite and even offered tableside drinks even though the place was starting to get busy. Overall, fantastic.

Tuesday night is Pizza night. I booked to see if we could still order off the menu . We could.So I took the future in laws from down London way to show them what a great Shropshire pub was like. Epic fail!Our food arrived at various times, Some had starters, some didn't, however JIm's side salad for his main course arrived in a little dish in front of him as a starter????Our mains arrived in dribs and drabs causing us to say ' go on. Start. Don't let it get cold' We were polite and waited. It did go cold. My hunters chicken had a skin on it - so it had been kept hot somewhere - so could perhaps have come out earlier with some of the others. However, poor Jim. He only ordered a vegetable pizza - on pizza night. How could that go so wrong? A while later, whilst we were all tucking in, the waitress apologised and said they were making another??? We had all finished and still no pizza. We wanted to cancel, but it arrived. Soggy and very undercooked! And was left uneaten. They didn't charge us for that, but we didn't dare attempt pudding, and poor Jim had only eaten a side salad. I don't know how you can get this so wrong (on my last visit, the triple cooked chips hadn't even been properly cooked once) So even though I'm a local, I can't risk taking people here again, can I?

My husband and I went for a lunch - menu was good and I hare a chicken, bacon and cheese BBQ sauce and my husband had fish and chips. The chips were lovely and lots of them. Would go again.

Recently moved to the area, had family staying so wanted to go for a meal, there were 9 of us , can not fault a single part of the evening, staff were friendly and efficient, pub has a lovely charm about it, food was fresh, hot home cooked and tasty!! We are an extremely fussy bunch and we were all impressed! Well done guys we will be back, and we own holiday lets so we will be sending people your way

Called in for a drink but it was pizza night so we decided to order. We had two pizzas and a childrens meal all came in good time were well made and were well priced. Great friendly service will go back again.

I booked a table at the Original Ball Inn a week in advance. On arrival myself and my partner waited at the bar while the young lady serving continued to have friendly banter with what seemed to be the locals. So we went to the other side of the counter where the registration book was. We waited and finally a waitress appeared walked past us and turned the corner to where the young lady was still chatting away. Then the waitress walked past us again and said she will be with you in a moment. We waited and by this time we walked back to the original side of the bar when we first arrived. The young lady behind the bar was sitting happily on her stool chatting away. Can I help you she asked, I told her we have a booking etc .... she then pointed to a table and said ...that table there is that ok for you. The table was within the bar adjacent to the dinning area. We sat down and in no time at all people were coming in and standing waiting to be served at the bar and standing in our vicinity. In fear of feeling like we were in a zoo by the time we would get to eat we asked if we could move to another table within the dinning area !! but before I could do this the ( ONE ) waitress was more concerned about filling up the juke box and selecting tracks while the ( ONE ) bar lady continued to serve behind the bar. Finally we got moved to another table. We ordered, I asked for Steak & Ale Pie ... ( chicken & mushroom !! ) was bellowed out to me , sorry I asked ? it's chicken and mushroom we don't have the steak and ale pie its not on tonight. So I had the homemade chicken and mushroom pie. The meal itself was nice yet the portion of veg we had been given was enough just for one person and consisted of peas & carrots , just two types of veg. My chicken & MUSHROOM pie contained just ONE HALF of a button mushroom, I kept it on the side of the plate a souvenir in hope she just might ask how our meal was . Sadly she never did as she just kept vanishing into the kitchen for length's of time. When we had finished our meal she finally come to clear our plates, was the meal ok she asked, I pointed out the half button mushroom and that this was the only sign of any mushroom in the chicken and mushroom pie. The waitress laughed and said I will tell the chef. Nothing was mentioned back to me and no apology given. We waited and waited for the bill to which we just simply got up and asked for the bill at the bar because the waitress who had taken our plates had vanished yet again. Message to the manager, why did you only have one member of staff working on the bar & one waitress ? this was a Saturday night ! you have a fantastic looking establishment, there were lamps in the corner of the room that were not switched on , one table had melted candle wax stuck inside a candle holder. Attention to detail is needed her. The young staff you have simply do not care and have no idea of standards. This was a special occasion and myself and my partner could of chosen many establishments within the Oswestry area where we live but sadly we chose your Inn . This is something we both regret. Word of mouth is vital in business and unfortunately we will have nothing good to say about the Original Ball Inn .

We went for our evening meal with family on a Tuesday. It was very quiet when we arrived and the lady behind the bar was very jovial and made us feel very welcome. We were very impressed by the look of the place - very cosy with nice, big tables and a few different eating areas. There was music playing on the jukebox, but it wasn't intrusive. It turned out there was a deal on which was 2 courses for £9.95, and it was also the weekly pizza night.Three of us had chicken liver pate to start, and one had the warm breaded brie. The pate was very tasty and came with brown toast, pickles and a side salad. The breaded brie was a generous two wedges with a side salad. Two had fish and chips for main course, and two had the home made pizzas. Even though the pizzas were not included in the "two for £9.95" deal, they were only £7, so with a starter weren't much more anyway. The pizzas were fantastic, with lovely thin, crispy base and generous topping. You choose 3 toppings for £7 and, if you want more toppings, it costs 50p for each extra one. It was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. The fish had a lovely, crispy, beer batter and came with a generous portion of hand-cut chips, a bowl of mushy peas, tartare sauce and a side salad. We had no room left for dessert.Quite a few more people came in during our stay and it was obvious that the pizzas were very popular, not surprisingly.We'll definitely be back and are happy to recommend The Original Ball for food, service, price and ambiance.

The original ball is such a hidden gem around Oswestry. The food is lovely and there is plenty of choice. The premises are very quaint and the atmosphere is great. What really sells it for me is how reasonable their prices are too. A great all rounder, I would definitely book though to avoid disappointment

Went recently went to the Original Ball for the first time for many, many years. The pub has changed fairly recentlyout of all recognition . We went for Sunday Lunch which was an excellent carvery. We enjoyed our visit so much we went back again mid week and really enjoyed the food and draught beers on offer.Well worth a visit

We went for family birthday meal a few times now, food very nice home made and setting lovely atmosphere in side old timber pub. Some nice ales on tap.

Booked ahead, and was told but was carvery night.Thus seemed ok so we looked forward to it.We were not disappointed?The food was excellent. Choice of beef or turkey and plenty of veg choices. The gravy was excellent.Well worth a visit on carvery night. I would highly recommend.

This was a meal for seven booked well in advance on a Saturday lunchtime. The place was virtually empty. We found our table and waited for approximately 20 minutes before deciding to collate our order and take it to the bar. Having collated our order a 'waiter' appeared took our order and then came back and said "there isn't any belly pork" . We changed our order and then tried ordering bottles of wine. No wine list so the waiter wrote the available wines on a scrap of paper.Starters were promising. We then waited over 20 minutes for our mains and then had to point out we were a meal missing. The lamb shank were mostly bone and looked like reheated meals from a local supermarket and the potatoes were smash. The gammon was over cooked. The potatoes au gratin were disgusting and the accompanying carrots and peas were tasteless. We tried to have a dessert and another piece of paper appeared listing a total of 5 puddings.....not 5choices just 5 portions in total. We left.We felt throughout the meal as though we were just a nuisance and shouldn't be there.We eat out regularly across all price ranges and types of venue and around the country. It was appalling. Terrible is too high a rating.

Came across this place by chance yesterday. It was freezing outside but as the only seats that were not reserved were next to the log burner that didn't matter. Ordered drinks at the bar where the young lady was on her own, paid £8.95 each for our carvery . We joined the queue and people were waiting for roast potatoes, when we were served the lady seemed to be under pressure and felt sorry for her. The meal we had though was very good, my hubby said it was the best roast beef he'd had on a meal out for ages. The gravy was delicious. The service issue just needs tweaking a little then it would be good. Will visit again.

Went for carvery, great selection of meats and dessert lovely. Decor is great vintage style. very accommodating to my 14month old niece. Great price too....cheap as a chain but with the independent touch!

First, may I say , we have eaten here before and had a lovely meal. But it was a long while agoLast nights was poor. It was quiet and a Tuesday night, but even so........ We only wanted a main course. I ordered chicken breast with stilton, a salad and chips. The man ordered a burger and chips.His burger was great, but the chips were very pale. Hot, but not fully cooked. My chicken had been nuked in the microwave.. I knew this because the stilton on top was so overcooked, I couldn't cut it. I did pick it up and chewed it - because I was bloomin hungry! We asked if they could recook our chips, and she offered us a new batch. I wish they'd recooked ousr, because the second lot came out the same as the first. We left them. I did ask if the chef was on a night off. Apparently it was a new chef. To be fair, she knocked the price of the chips off the bill, but with all the great pubs serving food around...It's unlikely we'll go back.Sorry.However. It's a lovely building and cosy inside, so maybe you could give it a try and let me know

low quality food, high prices. Steak tough and lemon meringue had a tiny layer of meringue. Barmaid/waitress was very pleasant and changed my beer without question as the one I had was clearly off.

Been here a few times for a Sunday roast and must say it is the best I have had, proper home cooked food in a friendly atmosphere, and a bargain as well at just £9 each, will return again and again :)

Went for a family meal. The building looks fabulous from the outside and expectations are a little bit dashed when you go in. However I did like the log burner with the seats around it. Must be great in the winter. Decor and seating is a little but underwhelming but I am sure that the owners will improve this as time goes by. Really pleased to see local beer on tap. The menu was a typical bar meal at the right sort of prices and very similar to other local offers. Fish and chips, steak pie, burger, curry etc. Quality of cooking and presentation was fairly average and it would not take much to improve this. It would be nice to have had locally sourced ingredients to match the beer. You've got a great cheese maker less than 5 miles from where you are and a fantastic sausage maker less than 5 miles in the other direction.

Went here today four adults and two children had a fab carvery, the lady carving the meat was lovely even cooked sausages for the children as they didnt want the roast.lovely atmosphere and staff . Will visit again

I'd heard a lot about this pub. Although it had a nice atmosphere as although the food was ok it was'nt that great. The service was ok and the drinks were expensive. Personally, I prefer Wetherspoons!

We called in to the original ball on Sunday the 9th of March just on the off chance of a table... They were very busy but managed to fit is in... It's probably one of the best carverys I have had... There was plenty of everything.... Would 100% reccomend the original ball... We will defiantly be returning
