Had a late Sunday dinner here with friends. Service was excellent, thanks to the wonderful Finn B. Food was delicious. Beautiful place, although it was dark and very windy. Definitely goofing back in the summer next year to enjoy the beautiful gardens. David and team make it a friendly atmosphere.

So on arrival was taken to our table where it was quite busy and noisy. So we moved to the top. Was given our menu and drinks orders taken. After looking at the menu to which there wasn't much choice if you like fish only seabass. Starter we picked belly pork ribs to share and then told they didn't have. Waitress apologise amd said they should of told u that when they given u the menu. Understandable. So we ordered the cheese garlic bread to share as a starter. I ordered the steak pie. Was asked chips or mash. I asked if I could have a very small portion of both. Was told need to ask chef. Came back and said no 1 or other. I choose mash. When starter came out. Was shocking. No side salad or presentation at all. Mains Pie was tasty. Mash was cold and veg very hard. Seabass Over cooked and dry and covered in to much sauce. Very disappointing This is my 3rd visit and unfortunately will not be returning 😕 I do.have pictures but can't find anywhere to upload

Bit disappointed with our meal today The waiter was very rude and the service was so slow. We was only asked if we want drinks once to the point we had to go to the bar our self. We had a really nice time her on Sunday evening. 4 of us went for my husband’s birthday after visiting it the Sunday before for drinks in the spectacular outdoor space. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was so relaxing all the staff we had contact with were friendly, polite and welcoming. It’s the best night we have enjoyed for a while. We will definitely be back.

We’ve been to the Riverside a few times as we’re not too far away. It’s always been a good standard of food and is dog friendly which is great. The acoustics of the conservatory out the back can be poor, it gets very noisy so if you are sensitive to that then ask to be seated elsewhere. We’ve been in the last 2 weekends for Sunday dinners and the difference between the weekends was quite surprising. Weekend 1 they had ran out of roasts, replaced them with roasted new potatoes and they were lovely. We had the sirloin beef which was nice enough and a good size portion and this spurred us to go back again. Weekend 2 they had ran out of sirloin so I had rib of beef and the wife had turkey. Both were nice but this week we got a few tiny roasties and a very flat Yorkshire pudding that really shouldn’t have been served. Not sure we’ll bother going back again for a Sunday roast until it quietens down a little out of the holidays. Several other more consistent places to eat in the area.

All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our roast dinners were spot on , was planning to have a pudding but could not eat anything else. Next time i will!

For the second consecutive visit, we sat at our table at 4pm. After 1hr still waiting for our drinks and starter. After 30 minutes from sitting down, we had to snatch a waiter to get our order taken. Others around us were complaining they had been there 2hrs and were still waiting to order a second drink and desert. Had to walk out after speaking to duty manager who admitted they were short staffed (still!). We asked why on earth they allow bookings in the knowledge they cannot cope? Reply was there was no company policy on it🤦♂️ Disastrous birthday meal out for my wife as by time we walked out, there was nowhere serving food Big thank you to Riverside. My husband and I went for my birthday lunch today and on first impressions we were very happy with the location. Unfortunately that is the only postive as it went down hill after that. We were the first to arrive in the restaurant and first to order. All we ordered was snacks and a light lunch each so imagine our shock to find the snacks were the smallest serving we have ever come across. We then had to wait an extra 50 minutes for our light lunches, watching others getting their meals before us. Upon asking the waiter as to where our light lunches was he promptly went to find out but then didn't bother coming back. When stopping him again he said it will be another 10 mins dismissively. When showing our annoyance about such a delay he said it was because we ordered a starter each (?). When I complained to the waitress about the delay when it finally arrived she ran back to the supervisor saying I told her off (wasn't the case at all). When the supervisor arrived she was passive aggressive and was dismissive of our concerns. She also made excuses about them being busy until I pointed out that we were the first to order so why were others getting their meals before us. She made the same excuse as the waiter that it was because we ordered starters (snacks) and that it delayed the meal by 50 minutes. I suspected that they forgot our lunches and did not apologise nor offer an resolutions until I made a comment about a full refund due to the poor service. She was rude and pulled faces and said that we could have a full refund if that is what we wanted (making a rude suggestion that this was our intention all along). We paid despite the disgusting service and poor quality/overpriced meals as we are good people. Moral of the story is don't operate in the service industry if you have no intentions of delivering a quality service. Oh and instead of saying to people who give you poor reviews that you will take things on board and welcome suggestions but not actually doing it, maybe you should actually improve your service. ;{

I recently stayed at the Riverside Inn and it was an exceptional experience! The highlight of my visit was definitely the restaurant. The food was absolutely exquisite, with a diverse menu that catered to a variety of tastes. Each dish was prepared to perfection, and the flavors were incredible. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure that all my needs were met and adding a personal touch to the dining experience. The location of the Riverside Inn is stunning, with a beautiful view of the river that added a serene and calming atmosphere to my stay. I spent hours just enjoying the view from my room and the outdoor seating area of the restaurant. It's the perfect spot for anyone looking to relax and unwind. Another fantastic feature was the availability of charging stations for electric vehicles. This was a huge plus for me, as it made my stay even more convenient and eco-friendly. I didn't have to worry about finding a place to charge my car, which was a great relief. Overall, the Riverside Inn exceeded all my expectations. From the excellent food and friendly staff to the breathtaking views and modern amenities, it truly is a gem. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable and enjoyable stay. I will definitely be returning in the future!

My Granddaughter wanted to have a meal here for her 11th birthday on Bank Holiday Monday, so as you can imagine she was very excited. By the time we ate she was almost 12. To say the service was diabolical is overrated. When we eventually received our starters my daughter had the pleasure of feeling my wife's starter all down her back as the waitress spilt the Hollandaise sauce everywhere, ruining her brand new top. Over an hour later after I had complained the mains arrived, luke warm !!!! No one out of 8 enjoyed their meal. I had the syeak and ale pie which I think was made on Friday it was that hard. £16 for cold chips and pie !!!! We did notice other people complaining about the lack of service. We will definitely not be returning. Thanks for ruining my Granddaughters birthday.

Location is lovely, however the staff cannot cope with the huge influx of visitors this place receives. Went on bank holiday Monday for a pre booked late lunch for 8 at 3pm. We didn't receive our mains until 4.30pm which wasn't ideal as it was already a late meal. Had they advised of the wait when we ordered we would have been understanding, however the waiter just wanted to tell us that it was actually his day off and he shouldnt have been there working at that time - not a great vibe. The waitress spilt hollandaise sauce all over my sister when bringing the starters, and although they removed the cost of that starter off the bill (it wasn't her dish), no one offered anything to compensate for the ruined clothing or embarrassment. I even asked when paying the bill if anything could be done, as the service was slow and due to the sauce incident - was told by the waiter who shouldn't have been working that he had already removed the starter, and the wait times were because they were busy - so no. Won't be returning here due to the attitude of some of the staff, and the overpriced food that wasn't worth waiting that long for.

I visited the Riverside Inn for an afternoon meal. First impressions were that it is a very nice building in a very nice location. When we entered the building there were rooms all over the place like a maze! We found our way to the rear of the building and sat in the conservatory restaurant area, which was quite stylish in design. However, it could have done with some UV pest control units as the conservatory windows had large flies and a wasp buzzing around, which is not good when eating. The meal I ordered was a Cajun Chicken Burger that came with onion rings and thin fries, this cost £15.29. Although there was nothing majorly wrong with the meal, I did feel improvements could be made: 1st) the batter on the onion rings was quite soft and soaked in oil. I have cooked frozen onion rings myself in an air fryer and they came out VERY crispy with little oil, so much nicer! I feel the Riverside Inn should try this method and finish off their onion rings in an air fryer for much better results. 2nd) the Cajun battered chicken in the burger was nice, but again soaked in oil. The chicken was also too thick (about 30mm) which made the burger difficult to eat, especially when the burger contained bacon and cheese too. 3rd) the streaky bacon in the burger wasn't very crispy, so the streaks of fat found in streaky bacon where like elastic rubber bands! This again made eating the burger difficult and not that enjoyable. Bacon medallions would be a MUCH better choice of bacon for burgers as it has no fat. 4th) some of the lettuce in the burger looked like it had been standing around several hours, it was dry and looked like leaves of a dying plant! This was a bit worrying as old lettuce can sometimes cause food poisoning. 5th) The fries were ok and made of fresh potatoes. However, they were not at all crispy and very limp. Although, I do understand that getting fries to stay crispy is very difficult! Even McDonald's have this problem sometimes and they cook more fries than anyone! 6th) the choice of tableware seemed rather odd. The plates were a rustic / stone looking design with black speckles all over. The first thing that reminded me of this look was a damp wall with mould spots! I think pure white or jet black tableware would have looked much nicer and complemented the colour of the foods better. Overall, the meal was ok, but I do not feel I would rush back to the Riverside Inn. Having the view of the river while eating was very nice indeed though, a fantastic spot for a restaurant! Oh, and the customer toilets were VERY clean when I used them, very important!

My wife and I have now visited The Riverside Inn twice in recent months . On our last visit we also took our son with us who has also visited once before . On our previous visit we had all found the food to be OK and well prepared . This time we found the food to be very poorly cooked and our son , not a fussy eater , left most of his pie as it the meat did not taste right . My wife had asked for a steak to be cooked medium to well done but it came rare and did have a lot of fat on it . My fish and chip meal was fine but the dish of mushy peas was very watery and seemed to be overcooked . As a location The Riverside Inn is in a superb spot with a lovely view over the bend of the River Severn. The facilities are modern and well looked after. The Riverside Inn has a large well laid out car park with good access to the building . As a real ale fan I was looking forward to trying the beers here but I have been greatly surprised by , in my opinion , the very high pricing of the bees . On my last visit I had a half of Greene King Hopping Special - a 4.2% pale ale on sale for £5.25 a pint. Although the Riverside Inn is some distance from other rivals and villages I do think this is rather excessive price and the quality was also rather below average . We did report our concerns regarding the food to waitress who said she would pass them on .

We booked for a Saturday late lunch (on the Tuesday ) via a real person for a dog friendly table, as we have many times before. I'd said we weren't bothered about time just when we could fit in. We arrived to be put at a snout level table/sofa seating in the bar which feels like eating off your lap and annoying to lean forward to eat. We were on the toilet route so had people walking past us frequently. Sent to order at the bar along with a queue, then wait about 30 minutes for the second course, having moved out of the pathway to another low table. Having expected to have a restaurant meal with restaurant service, disappointed to be treated as an inconvenience. If we'd been told the dog tables were booked we were flexible so could have taken a different time which is why we spoke to a person rather than the automated service. Silly season is fine as there is plenty of outside room, but usually not enough staff so prepare for a wait. As locals we won't be back til the autumn when you need the business.

I came her for lunch last Friday with my friend. We had pre booked a table to sit outside, however upon arrival we were greeted at the desk by two men who had asked if we’d booked, we then replied yes. They then looked at us funny and questioned us booking for outside, so I suggested to my friend “well shall we see if we can sit inside” as the weather wasn’t great anyway. The one man then proceeded to be quite sarcastic and said “ oh would you, would you like to come stand this side of the desk” which I thought was an odd thing to say considering we had never been here before. After an awkward silence we then got seated to a table in the middle section of the restaurant. I then asked if it would be possible if there were any tables free in the conservatory instead, as it’s a lovely view. I was told it no and that it was fully booked in there. It was very quiet this time, but I didn’t question it. Within 10 minutes surprisingly my friend and their family came in and were seated in there - without booking a table or requesting. Obviously I went over to say hello and they told me they were on the way back home from Shrewsbury and stopped in to see if they had any tables free. Obviously a table is a table. Im not as much bothered about it. It’s more the way we were spoken and treated by the two men we were greeted by. There was a lovely young girl who served us also, who we thought was really nice. Other than that the food was amazing and the location is stunning! Just disappointed with the door service.

There are gluten free options but interestingly chips are not suitable and there is no provision for an alternative version 'because the ones we buy in have flour on them'. Commercially produced chips in bags and frozen are dusted with starch of some kind to stop them sticking in the pack and it doesn't have to be wheat flour. Moreover, great tasting, crunchy and GF chips are easy to cook by parboiling then frying and a quality kitchen would do this rather than buying in plastic-bagged chips. I had salad instead and, to call the bag of rocket with cucumber ribbons and a drizzle of dressing a salad, is a stretch. Another hint that the kitchen is a food assembly line instead of a chef's kitchen. Lovely staff and surroundings though, just not a place to go if you want well prepared, good food.

Manager turned us away for Sunday lunch saying it's fully booked, booked a table online for 15 mins later because it didn't look that busy, was quite awkward to be honest, location is unreal with great views, Sunday dinner was average

Having been a regular visitor to the Riverside for a number of years I decided to celebrate my 80 th birthday by booking a Sunday lunch there with two friends after family party on the Saturday the Sunday being my actual birthday. Table booked for 12 o-clock .We set off in good time but sadly all our access roads were closed due to flooding we rang hotel to inform them that due to diversions we were running a little late but we’re on our way , on arrival at hotel at 12-25 we were told our table had been given to someone else and that it was our own fault for being late . Your staff need to learn the basics of customer care Needless to say day ruined and we and all our friends will not be visiting again .

Me, Mum and my sister came for lunch last week and it was gorgeous. Lovely attentive staff, stunning location, decor is beautiful. The food was stunning. I had the CLUB sandwich which was probably the best one iv ever had (and iv tasted a few!) the ciabatta was really soft and it just tasted superb. Mum and sister had the flatbread which they said was also gorgeous 👌🏻 I wouldn't have a coca cola again, at £4 odd, I think that's quite greedy. But the food was quite reasonable, under £9 each for them!

Went there for a couples night out. Service and food are above average, and even deducted 20% as a Blue Light card holder. Anna was a very attentive waitress. Well done.

Where do I start! It takes a lot for me to not enjoy food and to complain but my experience of the restaurant yesterday was terrible. The restaurant manager was grumpy and complained about being under staffed. The service was painfully slow. The menu choices were uninspiring and healthy eating unfriendly but with the prices set so high, I was hopeful. DO NOT CHOOSE THE SMOTHERED CHICKEN! - The chicken was like a bit of old leather. - The bacon was under cooked and greyish in colour. - The peas were cold. - The dish was served in a skillet literally swimming in grease. The words do not justify how bad it was, I wished I'd taken a photo. If the manager hadn't been so stressed I would have sent it back. The setting and the interior of this venue are spectacular, such a shame that it badly let's itself down in this way. Edit: As a result of my review above, David McGrath the General Manager called me to discuss my disappointing experience at his establishment. He was clearly devastated and assured me he would be conducting some investigations to get to the bottom of it. He listened to my concerns and was keen to put things right so by way of an apology, kindly offered for my friends and I to return for a complimentary meal. I appreciated David taking the time to call me and and am now looking forward to returning to The Riverside Inn when I feel confident my experience on this next occasion will be far better.

Burns Night, felt this was all about quantity and not quality, Venison casserole was so tough, complained "we'll let the kitchen know", sorry but not good enough

Much improved since we went eighteen months ago. Back then service was awful/ today it was good. Food was fine. No complaints. The waitress was attentive. We adjourned to bar for a cuppa after our meal. Stunning view across river.

OMG this place was amazing, what has happened it feels like overnight it's been destroyed, 45 min queue to order, service and food quality awful. How has it got so bad? I used to come once or twice a month. No more! Waste of money for what it is now.

Lovely country pub situated in the Shropshire village of Alverley. Was recommended to check out the Sunday lunch by a friend and The Squirrel didn't disappoint. Great value for money, big portions and generally nice food. Recommended.

We went for a meal on a Saturday evening and enjoyed what we had😁 the steak and ale pie was lovely. Having previously eaten here I can also recommend the cheese and onion pie. The restaurant area is decorated to suite the old building, just lovely. Staff were very polite and helpful, along with a good selection of beers what else could you ask for. We will soon be returning for a Christmas meal....can't wait!

Unfortunately the foul mouthed men at the bar spoiled our visit, which is a shame as we were staying nearby and were planning to adopt the pub as our local.
