The pub is lovely, quaint, ancient and also modern, cosy and staff are very friendly. Unfortunately some of our food was disappointing based on the other reviews we've seen. 4 of us ate. Both burgers were luke warm or tepid, we asked if this could be rectified, the waiter was friendly and took them back to the kitchen. New fries were added and coleslaw but the burgers were still tepid. We ate them as we were hungry and it would take too long to rectify again. My son ordered the pork belly and scallops which he said were really nice, but come with no potatoes (apart from some small greens) so its a rather small meal which could be finished in 5 minutes. My son ate the cold fries from the 1st returned burger to fill up. My beef pie was excellent though and the gravy and veg was plentiful.

We decided to eat here as our hotel was nearby and they had recommended the pub for food. It is obviously a popular pub but we found a booth in the rear of the building next to The Vaults. Our initial contact with staff showed that they were friendly and wanted to help. Having read the menu and, in response to a query, been assured of a 'proper' pie we decided to try it. It was indeed a proper pie with pastry exterior rather than ceramic with a puff pastry lid. The food was good, well cooked and full of flavour. If we visit Shrewsbury again I am sure we will visit again.

Classic Tudor pub brimming with history and the nice decorative touches you get in Joules pubs, Decent selection of beers on tap albeit slightly expensive. Loses 1 star for me due to how busy it always feels which is not a criticism of the pub itself, just how I feel it affects the atmosphere and comfort level when I'm there.

So changed when we last visited but overall the service was good and the food very good. We were a bit shocked at the change - but we were here for dinner a LONG time ago. Now a Joules pub with an extension on the side. The lovely Irish barman was charming and we enjoyed chatting with him. We ordered the ox cheek and curry monkfish. Both were generous portions and delicious. Our waitress was also very sweet and checked how we were enjoying our lunch. Yes, much changed but still a great place for lunch in an historic building.

As visitors from out of town we hadn’t been into this place for many years. Popped in today for a quick bite to eat and we weren’t disappointed. Lovely interior, as are all Joules pubs generally, and as it was on the early side we had the pick of the place, which rambles through several rooms/areas either side of the bar, plus upstairs. Beer was spot on and the food was great, monkfish curry was absolutely delicious. Top marks to the staff, very friendly and attentive without being too fussy. This venue has a good range of both cask and craft keg beers and also has some excellent food on offer at various reasonable prices (which we tried). The staff are all really friendly, helpful and attentive. The interior is smart, clean and well maintained. It has lots of seating areas some small and intimate and some much larger and great for larger groups. It also has an old world feel with paintings of famous artists in period costume which are very quirky. Our first night on moving to Shrewsbury was disappointing. Unfortunately we chose to have a meal at the Henry Tudor on a cold Monday evening in January. There were a few couples having drinks but only 2-3 tables eating, or not! We ordered early, around 7pm. Staff took some time lighting candles. The room was cold but no food was forthcoming. Finally, around 8.30pm our dishes arrived, a little overcooked. Apologies were made but £65 for a burnt burger and pie of the day seemed a bit excessive especially as the 1.5hr wait was disappointing after a tiring day of moving house.

We did arrive very early for our table but it took absolutely ages to get anybody to acknowledge us. The staff seemed stressed but there were only 2 tables seated. They appeared to be running around achieving very little. A very pleasant lady came to take our order but several things in the already limited menu were unavailable. She was embarrassed because the person who brought us the menu should have let us know. We ordered the Cote du Provence Rose which just wasn’t chilled. Requested some ice to go in the wine. Waited and waited and had to remind them we needed ice for the wine. After nearly an hour waiting all the food arrived at the same time, bread, starters, main course. Mix up in the kitchen. The food was good however with just two other dining tables not sure why we had to wait so long. A third table arrived and their starter came after just 20 mins! It just wasn’t a very relaxed or pleasant experience.

Oh dear…yesterday’s experience at Henry Tudor House was, I’m sorry to say, very sad and disappointing. We had booked for a birthday lunch but we were sat in the cold on a table OK for four people but definitely not comfortable for six. We waited over an hour for starters, another hour for mains - the majority arrived cold and on cold plates. Over cooking, under cooking and re-heating featured a lot. We skipped a wait for pudding but waited forty mins for coffee - only three arrived - and 20+ mins later the other three appeared. Every course was served by an apologetic waitress - which helped - but the overall experience was frustrating. I had hoped for a more relaxing meal for my son’s birthday celebration but it was not to be. A visit for a lovely Sunday lunch earlier in the year prompted yesterday’s booking - but this time the quality of the food and service was so very disappointing and added nothing special to this much looked forward to family occasion. Sad.

Super super. I'd say 4 pubs make it into my all time favourites (railwayman in Bridgnorth, the barrels in Hereford, the victory in Hereford (only how it used to be with the brewery out the back, it's gone downhill now) and this Henry Tudor pub). Maybe I'm being a bit unfair to many of the other great pubs I've visited but the Henry Tudor feels like one of a kind. It's dark (in a nice cosy way), it's old, smells slightly woody and theres a lot of interesting history in the pub. Interesting displays such as the cigars and funny portraits of famous people in an old Tudor style. There's a log fire which wasn't in use during my visit. It's dog friendly and has a decent selection of ales (I had a pint of Dunkel, one of my favourite beer styles and it was a welcome treat). Well worth checking out.

A very rude blonde door woman refused our husbands entrance, even though they explained we were in the pub. They were left outside in the pouring rain. She was more interested in chatting to her friend leaning against a car. We had to leave our drinks and exit. When I challenged her she was aggressive and unprofessional. I am stunned that Joules pubs support this behaviour. We will not be returning again and the door woman needs customer service training she was horrid.

Service would have got a lower mark (but the staff were very friendly and helpful) as it was incredibly slow, 15 mins for starter, (Terrine) which was awful, overpowering taste of black pepper so couldn’t taste anything else, 10 mins for main which was actually good (beef cheeks) 20 minutes for VERY disappointing dessert (chocolate mousse) which probably had a teaspoon of mousse in a chocolate shell for £10!) within this time it also took around 10-15 minutes twice for drinks we had ordered (margaritas which must have had 20ml of liquid in the glass) to be delivered to the table. Overall poor service, & vastly overpriced food and drinks, We WERE asked and we gave this feedback to the server who said she would pass it on. Would NOT recommend. For context this was a late birthday outing for a friend, we are both retired Chèf’s of some standing, I also, when I lived in Shrewsbury 10 years ago, had a beautiful and perfect wedding meal here, how things have changed. We passed several different places to eat in the walk to here and now wished we’d eaten in one of those. Nearly £110 for two people for this level of food and service was unacceptable. What a treat to discover this perfect pub! We stopped off for lunch en route to Wales, and spent a wonderful hour in the atmospheric surroundings of the Henry Tudor Inn, exploring the nooks and crannies, reading the informative boards on the walls filled with the history of the inn, admiring the regal pop star portraits (you'll have to drop in and see!) and eating their divine food. Service was so good - friendly and funny - and we will definitely come back to sample more local ales when we don't have to drive on.

Interesting interior with several areas to explore in relaxing atmosphere. Joules beers on tap and the usual lagers at typical prices for town centre. Guess could be very busy on the evenings!

The choice of ales are original, unique and great tasting. The food is beautiful. The place is a tardis, it looks tiny from the main road but you go inside and it just keeps getting bigger. I believe there are 3 floors with the upper floors being private function rooms. The feel of the place is so charming and lovely. I’m new to the area and I just keep going back to relax and soak the building up. Highly recommend.

This Sunday lunch with family was a little disappointing, it does seem to have gone off the boil since opening. We have eaten at The Henry Tudor a couple of times before inc. Sunday Lunch but this simply wasn't as good. We all had Roast Beef and the whole plateful at best just warm, with two very small bowls of veg, between four. One of the party requested a side order of Roast Potatoes, 4 small potatoes came in a dish. at an extra charge of £4.50 !!! In summary, the service was very good, the food disappointing.

A recent addition to the Jiules empire and another gem in a surprisingly large historic building. Good range of Joules beers. There are rooms in front and to the rear of the bar. Some very interesting pictures of famous "Tudor" people. Bar snacks plus an upstairs restaurant.

Good hotel to stay for locality and town centre, only one minor hiccup and that was there was a bit of a wait for breakfast, but as stated, it was only minor

As a regular who goes to this establishment at least once a week. I’m incredibly disappointed with the meal this evening (fish pie was awful, dry, basically just mashed potato very limited fish content and no sauce). What made it worse was the attitude of the duty manager. When I brought it to his attention, the basic response was, sorry I will get the chef to check the batch. Not really sorry this was your dinner, is there anything else on the menus I can get you. The conversation then went into refund, to which he offered some vouchers. I requested a refund, meals had been returned (images as below) When he returned the comment was simply “tap your card!” . I was made to feel it was my issue and I was the problem, rather than embracing there was an obvious problem. I was left with a really bad feeling, totally undervalued and disappointed. Customer service not great.
