Normally service at the Wynnstay hotel restaurant is pretty good. It can hardly be judged satisfactory, however, if one orders Soup and Omelette and they are served at the same time!

he food was lovely but when I returned home I found the tip has been included in the final price. To be fair I ordered at the bar and didn’t really receive tables service This has put me off going for a bite to eat and I won’t be returning I wish the price states had been the price I paid Also a bit put off that I paid a tip on drinks from the bar . I’m not saying I wouldn’t tip just the fact it wasn’t made clear

Just had a one night stay here at the Wynnstay Hotel, and I was very reluctant to leave. From the moment we arrived we were greeted like old friends and everyone was just so welcoming. We didn't eat there but did enjoy a few drinks in the bar on the evening and the atmosphere was lovely. Room was amazing, clean and spacious with all the amenities you could ask for. Breakfast in the morning was incredible, beautifully presented cold buffet and very attentive staff just finished our little trip off perfectly! Needless to say we will be back ❤️

We visited on a very busy Friday lunch and waited for a table in the main restaurant which is lovely. Good menu. We had the soup and sandwich deal which seemed a popular choice. The cauliflower soup with a hint of curry was delicious. Sandwiches were excellent with good quality, large fillings. This was our first visit and proved a very good choice for a light lunch. The staff were kept very busy. provided service with a smile and we did not wait too long for the food. There is a separate coffee lounge which serves a great selection too. A superb hotel with a private car park .Location is perfect too in the town centre. Good value for this quality but double check the added service charge.

I stayed at this hotel with a colleague from my company. My company paid for everything. This colleague acted like he was wealthy because he paid for unlimited drinks and meals with the company’s money, but he’s nothing more than an arrogant, single old man. He was always drunk and made stupid jokes with the hotel staff, who remained polite and tried to humor him, making him feel funny with his ridiculous behavior. I apologize to the hotel staff for his behavior.

A lovely hotel, great service and food. The rooms are 'nice' but attention to detail is poor. One light not working in the bathroom, wonky misaligned toilet seat and a radiator that had leaked and was isolated with a little sign saying not to switch on. I understand that radiators do leak but the other items should of been picked up by housekeeping and rectified as the room was serviced.

We have eaten here on previous occasions and have had nice food and good service in the past but not on this occasion . I booked this meal out for my wife’s birthday meal on Saturday night which all 9 of us were really looking forward to. I dropped the birthday cake and balloons for the table off earlier that day as I wanted to make the night special. We were very disappointed from start to finish! From the waitress who was rude and miserable who was attending our table she really shouldn’t be waiting on tables with an attitude like she had. We waited an age to get drinks to our table when they did eventually came out it was in dribs and drabs very slow service. Two of the drinks had to go back as they were mocktails not cocktails. When the food was brought to the tables we were handed the plates and not warned that the plates were hot my daughter and myself nearly dropped them. my wife ordered the steak well done as she always has it, it was so overcooked and dry it was barely edible, not once were we asked if the food was okay and no one came over to ask if everything was okay. But the table behind us which was a party of approx 6 who obviously knew some of the staff were attended by at least 3 staff and looked after so much it’s shame they couldn’t look after all their customers like that. Once again the food was brought out in such slow succession that when we started to eat some of the food was just warm. The final straw was when we were ordering the food I noticed that on the back of the menu it stated if you had a birthday there the person whose birthday it was received a free meal. However when I went to pay the bill I noticed that my wife’s inedible steak was on there. When I then mentioned to the waitress about what it said on the menu even though she’d served us all night saw the balloons on the table and even brought the birthday cake to the table she told me I’d have to prove it was her birthday. This just put the icing on what was an awful birthday meal. When I explained you’ve just served us the cake and why would I spend £50 on a birthday cake just to get a £30 steak free. She then smirked at me and said I can’t do it anyway I’ll have to get the restaurant manager. I would seriously reconsider eating here again. Your waiting staff seriously need some manners when serving customers. Thank you for ruining my wife’s birthday meal.

We stopped here for lunch as a family of 9 and two dogs. We ate outside on a gloriously sunny day. The staff all made us feel very welcome and were attentive to our needs, the four children with us ate free due to a summer promotion. The extensive garden at the rear includes a bowling green and if no bowling is taking place then the children used it as a play space. The food was well cooked and plentiful with a good choice of dishes from the menu. All in all a pleasant afternoon.

Chris is bursting with energy and charm which seems to rub off on all the hotel staff. A wonderful team. My wife and I arrived at the Wynnstay by chance on a motorcycle trip and had a very pleasant evening relaxing. We had dinner by the bowling green at the rear of the premises, for some reason we both went with vegan options which were excellent. We're not veggies. Service throughout was first class. Then, our room. One of the the most well equipped (creams and potions galore) beautifully furnished and decorated rooms we have come across on our travels anywhere in the UK, Ireland or Europe. Looking forward to next time. Thanks to all at the Wynnstay Rottweiler 😁

Strangest evening ever. Arrived for a Christmas party night as a couple and were seated in the restaurant. The starters were shocking, ham hock terrine was horrid and the mushroom pate tasted like mushed cardboard. The mains arrived straight away. Far too fast. When we said could we have a break we were told they had a lot of food to get out. There was hardly anyone there! During desert a guy turned up in the corner of the restaurant and turned out to be the dj. How odd, a party night is usually in a function room. It was all rather strange so we brought our taxi forwards and were home within 2 hours of leaving the house. Come on Wynnstay.... Dread to think what experience people get if they are mad enough to book a wedding here lol...

Beautiful inside, hadca great time as my family are so great. Waiting time was atrocious, one of our party had to go find someone to clear our table 30 minutes after we had finished, then a further substantial wait for drinks. Chris the restaurant manager? seemed besotted with another table and either didn't give his waiting staff any direction or supervision or they were inexperienced, or both. Lovely girls when did serve though. Steak was 'ok', burgers were alright, and 2 starters were ordered as mains, but I presumed that they would bulk them up and turn them into a main and charge accordingly? I pre ordered our meals. Apologies if I'm in the wrong here, other places seem to do that. But a big thanks to the person who accommodated my son in making a lovely dessert for him, (pineapple sponge in a sundae bit odd for November?) I love the Wynnstay atmosphere and decor, shame it wasn't reflected in service and food quality.

Very nice place, with a lovely atmosphere. The food is very good, with many different types of dishes. It is very nicely presented even the kid's menu. We enjoyed what we had. The goat cheese mousse with beetroot was full of flavors with the beetroot making a nice balance with the goat cheese. The burger was very good, so was the gammon steak. The pot roast porc belly was a very nice, but I would have loved the meat to be meltier in mouth, but it is only a personal opinion. The coconut rice pudding was very comforting, the crème brûlé was very generous and the apple parfait was light and refreshing to end this excellent dinner. Good choice of wine too. The only criticism I have is regarding the fact that cash is not accepted for payment. This could have been a very embarrassing situation... Overall, a lovely place to have a nice meal, either as a family or for a romantic evening..

As a frequent morning/midday visitor to Oswestry, I have been exasperated for some time about the lack of a first class restaurant or lunch establishment. There is a plethora of highly competitive but rather ordinary places (no names, no pack drill) but somewhere that is comfortable and offers a good menu seemed lacking. The newly refurbished Wynnstay restaurant definitely answers this challenge. The previously under-utilised rooms facing the bowling green (that I can recall only with the bleak memory of an afternoon's detention for 'speed awareness') have been joined with the main downstairs area, making a delightful and spacious restaurant with clever lighting and decor and comfortable chairs. The menu offered a good choice with daily specials that included pork pie with tarragon. The fish and chips had light batter and chunky chips.

The Wynnstay has relaunched its restaurant as a steak house. Great idea, Oswestry needs something like this so a great move. A huge selection of steaks ranging from rump to a 1kg tomahawk for 2. I came in for dinner after seeing a talk in the hotel by Rick Stein, who then sat on the table next to us and enjoyed a meal himself. I wasn't nosy enough to look at what he ordered but I genuinely heard him say "that's lovely!" to his fellow diners when tasting something , so that's a good sign! We both had 400g fillet steaks medium rare. It was absolutely sublime, viging on heavenly. Sides and sauce (Jack Daniels) absolutely perfect. The bread here is always really good, I would happily eat a loaf. Salt and pepper squid starter very nice but I would rather have a kilo of that too. Well done Wynnstay, I am very pleasantly impressed by the revamp and will be back to tackle a whole tomahawk.

The adults had the 6-course a la carte menu, but although the children had their own menu which was at a much cheaper price, they were included in the special 'Amuse bouche' and Intermediate dish also, which was very thoughtful of the chef. I have never had such a pathetic meal in all my life. I ordered an 8oz ribeye steak cooked rare. What I got was a half decent piece of steak that had been cooked by someone who was either not a cook or simply hated food. To say it was cooked "blue" would be an understatement. The service we received throughout was OUTSTANDING, I can’t say anything bad about them. The menu looked very good, and once we had our food is was just ‘average’, nothing really stood out... and for the price you pay, we thought that the portions would have been a-bit bigger. I was still hungry after a main meal and dessert. We will be coming back. I just hope next time we get the outstanding food that we have had previously.

I took my elderly mother and her sister to this restaurant as a pre Christmas treat. It was just what we needed, a traditional establishment which had close parking (as my 91 yr old aunt has mobility problems) and a ‘cut above’ a pub meal. Firstly, the parking. Whilst quite large, you can’t access it from the rear entrance as you used to be able to, secondly you need a token to exit. This was not explained to me at any time, nor the other 3 drivers who ended up queueing to get out causing much frustration to all inconvenienced. We booked a table and was happy with the location. We sat down at 12.30 and were given menus and drinks quickly. However, we then sat there for 45 minutes before anyone came back to take our order. Others had walked in on spec and were served well before us. There is an option of smaller portions which is great for those with small appetites, however they are VERY small. My Mum (usually has small portion but I was going to have some her scampi) ate the lot easily. The chips were presented nicely in one of those small metal beaskets that are trendy, but they consisted of chips of all different sizes meaning some were better cooked than others. I had a ‘stuffed loin of pork with apricot stuffing’. I got a couple of very thin slices of pork (a la school dinner) with a perfectly round, diner mint sized piece of dense, tasteless stuffing. It sat on 5 brussel sprouts the size of small marbles and cut in half and a cream cider sauce that was about a desert spoonful. That was it! I hadn’t realised that you had to pay extra for vegetables and did not expect to for a 2 course £17.50 meal. It was shocking and I did raise this with the waitress. Unfortunately we had been so long being served that we didn’t have time to replace the meal (we were meeting other relatives and had little time to spare). My mother and I had Baileys creme brûlée which was also poor, no crisp top and couldn’t taste the Baileys. Overall a disappointing experience for a much awaited meeting between my mother and her sister who lives some distance away from us. We did get one of the brûlées free in compensation. I will never go back here. Yes, they were preparing for a huge Christmas party event but that should not have meant that we were to have such shoddy service and poor food. This is not a cheap place to eat, and we wanted food to match the price we paid. This place used to be so good and my family who live locally have used it for large family events for years and years.

We’ve been going to the Wynnstay on a fairly regular basis for many years, often taking our family too. We’ve always been impressed with the food but I’ve been disappointed of late. I chose the pork that came as a lump with a horrible gloppy sauce and a few bits of chorizo hiding underneath. There were no vegetables. I assume thatthey had to be ordered separately at extra cost. This meal cost £22.50 , a considerable increase on the usual Early Bird, presumably because of the Christmas season.

We went for the Early bird menu and were not disappointed. We had three courses each, which is a rarity. And the food on each course can only be described as wonderful. As far as value for money is concerned, well, an excellent three course meal for £20. Wow!The welcome was good an our server was chatty and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. Will certainly be visiting The Wynnstay again.

Charming Georgian Hotel with first class leisure facilities and function rooms. Excellent Service throughout. Some rooms are being and are in need of refurbishment, however, bed linen and essential items were good.

My daughter and I stopped at this hotel for a Sunday night spa retreat which included a 3 course evening meal, a twin room with ensuite facilities and a lovely breakfast the following morning. Also included in the £155 for 2 rate was all the leisure facilities, swimming pool, gym, sauna and steam room and jacuzzi and 2 treatments. We had a fabulous time, all the staff we met went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one and the food and service was simply divine. The room we found to be very clean and very comfortable and we would not hesitate to stay again, and we are locals.

We went here for my husbands works christmas party, the food was very good and the service excellent, especially as it was a very large group (around 30+) our glasses were rarely left long before a top up was offered and plates were cleared away swiftly. An enjoyabke evening had by all. My only gripe was my soup was quite salty but others who had it enjoyed it so i think its a personal prefernce thing.

Four of us visited the restaurant midweek and we opted for the early bird menu, great choice of dishes. Food - amazing, fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. Service was second to none - attentive and professional and the atmosphere was very chilled and relaxing. The whole experience was excellent - highly recommended. We will be back !

This was the first time we had visited the Wynstay, and it definitely won't be the last. We were looking for somewhere different to go for Sunday lunch, and decided to try it. From the moment we walked in, the staff were very very good. Polite, attentive but not obtrusive. We were met by a lovely young man whom I assume was the manager/ maitre d, but all the staff acknowledge us as we were shown to our seats. The atmosphere in the room was lovely. There seems to be a set lunch menu on a Sunday, which we weren't aware of, but the choices were fabulous. 2 courses for £15 or 3 for £19.95. Hubby and I both couldn't resist the Scallops I can't remember the description on the menu, but they were fantastic. We both then had roast pork, with herbed roast potatoes, crackling, roasted root vegetables and stuffing. It might sound like a normal Sunday roast, but it was anything but. So tasty and just lovely. Oh did I forget to say about the freshly baked bread and butter, that came with the starters. Mmmmmm. My husband had the cheeseboard afterwards and I had the chocolate torte with pistachio shard. I'm salivating now just thinking about this gorgeous meal. I shouldn't forget our wonderful waitress Claudia, who made the whole meal a pleasure, friendly attentive but not overly so.Can't wait to go back to this restaurant again. Thank you all very much.

When we decided to hold our works Christmas party here I was a bit sceptical at first. It was a fantastic night with brilliant atmosphere and the food was spot on. I would really recommend it for any celebration as it has the right setting and class. Nothing was to much trouble for any of the staff. So if you want a place that's classy I'd recommend this place any day.

Over the Christmas period myself and my daughter have visited this hotel twice for coffee.before I start this review I should point out that we are both locals and I have known this hotel all my life, right back to its trust house forte days,I have always known it for its great food and hospitality,so this is hard for me to write but I will not be treated like a second class citizen. On our first visit over Christmas we were first met by a very friendly young lady who took our order and showed us to our seats,so far so good, the problem arises when we come to pay. I went to use the toilet whilst my daughter payed,on my return I find my daughter is unable to pay by debit card as the hotel has a £10 minimum spend, this is not a problem as I will just pay cash, but it does appear a problem for the waitress who is holding her hand out in a very aggressive manner and looking down her nose at us.Visit two this Christmas,we are met by the same waitress who's body language towards us was one of looking at us like we are something under her shoes,we place our order and she thrust her hand out and demanded the money in a aggressive manner,we drank our coffee and left. This hotel will never see my hard earned cash again.

Extremely good value for money. Not cheap but reasonable for the quality of the food and elegance of the surroundings. Booking highly recommended as this is a hotel restaurant.Food excellent, good selection of wines and beers as you would expect from a hotel. Service friendly and unobtrusive. The hotel has its own car park at the rear with plenty of parking. However it can be difficult to spot the entrance if you have not been here before - it is next to the hotel and looks like a side entrance with a barrier across it this will rise as you enter BUT you must ask for the CODE to get out when you leave - Would I Go there again - without hesitation.

Obviously this is supposed to be aimed at the higher end of the market, but I feel that both the service and quality of food was not as good as we have had elsewhere. It is nice to go for a treat every so often but nothing special, in my opinion. Having said that other than the price itbwas a nice meal.

Me and the hubby popped in for a quick child free drink we went to bar and asked for our drinks the didn't have the cider and had to go into the back for some and they didn't have any chilled small bottles of percesso which was dealt with as they poured some from a larger bottle. We wanted to ,sit outside as it was a lovely afternoon and when we got out the back all the outside tables were dirty and had glasses and things from lunch still on them and it was 3pm to sit down I had to move glasses which should of been done.It is a nice place but seems to need better staff for the cleaning and the bar lad seemed a bit half soaked or hung over. Please get better as your better than this

Very warm welcome, nothing too much trouble for the friendly staff who offered to take a photo of us all. Meal was superb and my gluten free dietary requirements well catered for. Didn't have to have the usual baked potato and fruit salad. Great menu choice!

Great value Sunday lunch - £17.95 for 3 courses and an extensive, good quality wine list. Very friendly staff and a smart setting. Portion size was just right. Clearly a focus on fresh, seasonal food e.g poached egg, asparagus and Parma ham to start with. Highly recommended
