A friend and I stayed at The Ship Inn Friday and Saturday evening for a weekend away on the motorbikes. We used the pub as a base and it's ideal for the Ironbridge Gorge area and Severn Valley Railway. Food was very good and the Friday fish and chips special is huge!!! Breakfast each day was fresh and served with as much toast as you can eat. The service was excellent. All staff friendly at and the locals are up for conversation.... Happy to recommend and will more than likely be returning.

I wouldn't even rate the food 1 star, took over an hour for a kids sausage and chips when asking where the food was I was told 'food is done in ticket order no matter how little or large the meal is and the wait is over a hour' we was not told this when ordering. Paid for four Sunday dinners I wouldn't of fed that to my dog no flavour at all and very salty we watched them cutting red meat and white meat on the same chopping board. Such a shame as the location could have alot of good potential but food and service has really let this place down 👎

There was also quite a few gluten free options (which I needed) but also quite a few dairy free options too. The service was lovely and they checked on us during our meal to see if everything was ok. A lovely pub in a beautiful location, will happily return in the future. The Ship Inn is also dog friendly and just down from Highley station on the Severn Valley Railway.

On Sunday had a great carvery. After the meal I ordered 2 half pints of lager. I was told that as this came to less than £10 it’s cash only. I said I only had my card. I was then told I would have to upgrade to pints to get to their minimum card payment. The payment came to £9.20 which I then told that would be near enough. What a crazy rule this place has.

Not sure who is giving this 5 stars but I suppose if you want food that all tastes like it was deep fried in the same oil then go for it, you've found your place. I had the fish platter which in all honesty all tasted the same, the taste being old cooking oil. Very oily, greasy tasteless food that in all honesty you could get better from Iceland. We have visited the Ship many times and the carvery there is very good, with a varied choice of meats and vegetables. The service isn’t great and trying to get a drink from the bar is nigh on impossible. We would have had more drinks, but the thought of joining the snaking queue through the pub just puts you off, so we didn’t bother. I think they’re missing a trick to be honest because they could sell a lot more drinks than they do. Very often there is just one person at the bar and a great queue of people.

How disappointing Arrived at 12:21 seated in the rear area, drinks order taken, short wait and drinks (2 zesty cola type) waitress said she'd return in 5 minutes to take meal order and hand us 2 menus, at 12:50 (20+/- minutes)I had to remind her to take the order, ok sat back and drunk my zesty drink as I'm diabetic and my glucose levels were fairly low and edging towards hypoglycemia levels (original coke is full of wonderful sugars),13:26 again called waitress over to ask about our meals, scampi for missus &, surf & turf for myself, and that we had been waiting for 35 minutes already, she went to check in the kitchen, returning 10 minutes later without explanation to inform us the meals would be at least another 30 minutes. I'm extremely disappointed with the attitude there,if they were so busy (they weren't, I counted 11 tables inside and out where the customers were either waiting, drinking or already with meals) the very least they could do is warn customers of serious time delays in the kitchen. What suprised us the most was the waitress wasn't even shocked when I cancelled the order and asked for the bill for just the 2 zesty drinks. Shame on management for running such a service shame on ownership for employing such inept staff

We first visited on a Saturday evening. My wife had the beef lasagne which was “very meaty” and tasty; I had the fish and chips - the fish was superb - moist (but well cooked), tasty in crispy batter, the chips were great too. The dessert range is slightly limited but fine for us - my wife had key lime cheesecake (which was from Watson Kitchen in Droitwich) - very rich and creamy; I had chocolate honeycomb cheesecake which was also very good. The service was friendly, the beer good, the prices very reasonable, all in a lovely spot beside the river. We enjoyed it so much that we booked for the following day (Sunday) when we both had the carvery - definitely up there amongst the best carvery meals I’ve had - tasty and tender meats, and a large variety of vegetables, all really tasty. We especially enjoyed the slightly spicy red cabbage! I honestly don’t see how previous reviewer Laura could have had such a bad experience. Both days we visited were moderately busy and yet we had very good and friendly service both times.

This place doesn’t warrant a long review. We would never return. Carvery is small basic and limited. Taste is just average definitely cook better at home. Didn’t meet one competent or kind member of staff even the manager was rude. Service is non existent. They don’t ask or care about food allergies or cross contamination in the carvery area. The desserts aren’t even labelled so you don’t know what they are and the staff don’t even want to tell you they just say “in the cabinet”. The grass needs cutting outside too and none of the staff clear away the empty crisp packets off the floor outside.

We had one encounter with back kitchen staff when we were trying to enter but I quickly escalated it to the main restaurant staff and they quickly sorted the issue out. The breakfast team were so nice and lovely! They’re a good team and they will cater to your needs as best as they can. I can’t express how grateful and impressed I am with the service & staff. I don’t think the place needs to be updated as that was what I was needing as I work in a very busy stressful environment with constant changes. Such nice staff and night portier! He brought me a blanket at 01:30 am! And the cleaning ladies who washed our clothes after dirty night in London! Best ever!
