The Beehive in Basildon

I visited this pub on a Friday night and was met with slow service and an appalling application of dress code rules. I waited over 14 minutes for a simple drink order, and there were significant issues with the ordering app. The most disturbing part was the management of entry; my friend was denied access for wearing clean but casual tracksuit bottoms, while others in arguably less suitable attire were allowed in. Is that because I am not English ? The security's refusal to let my friend finish his drink outside or even over the fence, despite having paid for it, was not only unreasonable but also unprecedented in my 25 years in the hospitality industry looking after 4 gastro pubs in London . I do know how to behave and never caused trouble in a pub neither my friend. We are family man with a great job and always polite .. the way security treated us was unaccaoetable. The atmosphere was more akin to a "dirty boozer," with drinks served in plastic, even wine, which was a low point. With three security guards for just 50 guests, it hints at deeper issues with crowd control or perhaps the clientele's behavior. I cannot recommend this place unless you're looking for trouble or substandard service. Perhaps local authorities should consider the implications of such management on the pub's license as I found out from my neighbours the fight are very common.

I am working near the place. Went in for a drink after work. Place was full of drunken people. I'm in my workcothes. Not even dirty. Landlady told me to take my coat off. Then started going on about my hi viz pants. The place is one of the worst pubs I've ever been in. And shes going on about my work clothes. I was cleaner than the chief. Horrible lady

Good drinks, has a fun quiz night on Thursday and good sports shows. The crowd that arrives is pretty calm, and it's good place to relax. Recommend for chill drinks but one issue is it can be a bit cramped sometimes or some prices for drinks can be a tad iffy

The door team here are really welcoming, it's nice to have somewhere in basildon where you can feel safe socialising with friends, the drinks are reasonably priced and a good range too, I enjoyed the DJ he was actually really good!! You will be seeing a lot more of me, keep up the good work guys!

Attended Sunday for a quiet drink after an arduous weekend in the office in Farringdon, was subjected to some horrendous karaoke, I can tolerate this, but the volume of the abuse to my ears literally gave me tinnitus. Why is it so hard to have a tolerable level of music? This isn’t a rave in Brixton.

Had a lovely time at the beehive for lunch and drinks with friends very pleasant atmosphere and quick and friendly service. Jamie was so helpful and kind

Been coming to the beehive for the last 20 years and service is amazing as ever. Jemma is always helpful and friendly and always has a smile on her face. Very lovely place to visit

Came to see the new and improved beehive, and whilst it was clean and looked nice the service was terrible. Waited for an hour for a simple pasta dish and when I asked where my food was I was told it's only just being cooked when the pub was empty on a Tuesday afternoon. When the food finally arrived it was somehow burnt, I mean who burns pasta? No wonder it took so long... Almost inedible. If you want anything more than a alcoholic drink then it's not the place to go. I 1000% do not recommend.

Been a few times , as a family lunch it’s okay… that’s why 2 stars. Another occasion went on a Saturday with a few friends for a nice night out , barely tipsy , not doing anything wrong apart from dancing and enjoying ourselves. We saw a guy we knew but he was drunk and apparently annoying someone and just because he was seen speaking to us they didn’t let us into the after party. Honestly annoying and disappointing that just because we know the guy the whole group was turned away!

Fair enough but you should not judge people in what they wear I felt intimated by your bouncers my shorts were not sport its silly rules just to intimidate people, people should be allowed to where sport you can't stop people in what they want to wear I'm very upset I'm autistic I don't need this bullying from your company I'm not gonna be told what to wear change the rules, I try to come out for a good night and I get this rubbish I'm a good person . I hate being declined 😡 I want an apology I don't wear sporty stuff I've never had this trouble before your rules are too harsh

Some of the food (the fish and chip was nearly entirely batter with hardly any fish). However the member of the team, Teresa, handled the situation in a very professional and satisfactory way.

Went to beehive for their new menu launch. Got served by Jamie who was lovely and the food was so good. Will definitely go again

A stupid rule about not being able to wear tracksuit bottoms after 7pm, despite multiple people wearing skirts short enough for me to know what they had for lunch and screaming at each other.. ruins a nice pub that really should realize they are in Basildon and not a central rooftop bar in London. Strange rule enforced by people at the front who seemingly get a buzz out of turning people away. Sad, quite enjoy the place when I've been prior (wearing the forbidden trousers prior to 7pm).

Went for an early dinner Friday 3rd May. Was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and drinks, and the service as well. Food prices very reasonable as well. Well done everyone involved. We were very impressed and will be back soon.

they must have changed the chef Here,use to eat regular as the food was spot on,but recently the last 3 visits there was nothing what we picked on the menu,the food was overcooked,and today with 3 friends we all got our meals at different times,very disappointed with a venue we use to enjoy our food and meeting,all good things come to an end,the staff are brilliant

Cracking night here! The steak was excellent and the staff, led by Jamie, were both charming and professional. Superb quiz - must gen up on my current affairs for next week!

Our first visit and meal there, very pleasant atmosphere, staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was very good and at a very good price. Only thing to be aware of is the kitchen is not open on a Friday or Saturday night. We shall return.

Like a slightly average weatherspoons. Beer always o.k, typical pub food menu. As seems to be the norm you need to push through the smokers to get to the entrance. The main let down is the men's toilets, these were possibly cleaned some time in the previous decade. They have a unique smell of their own, which is beyond description. But as it's one of the only pubs in the town centre, I have to suffer it.

Food was amazing, drinks was cheap and the loft crew was so helpful with my party later on that evening 10/10

I had a really bad experience at the beehive that I feel I need to share. My wife and I faced unfriendly and discriminatory treatment from the security staff during our visit. Even though the place was busy, a security person wouldn't let my pregnant wife use the restroom. They used rude language and even got another staff member involved, causing unnecessary trouble outside. To make matters worse, two other security guys followed us, making nasty comments and threats. This kind of behavior is just not on, and it reflects badly on the pub. I hope the managers do something about it to make sure everyone feels welcome. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I can't recommend the beehive.

Popped in for a bite to eat and tried the bacon cheeseburger which was actually pretty darn tasty! Everything was cooked well and tasted delish! The service was good too Shazza the bar tender was quick and polite I definitely recommend this place for a good bite and friendly atmosphere

I was given a food delivery from here where it is called "88th Street Burger Bar". There is no free parking for food delivery drivers and the nearest free parking is a long walk away. With the low amount getting paid for food deliveries, I would be losing money if I was to pay for paid parking. I still arrived on time and when I arrived I was told it would be a 5 minute wait. There is nowhere for drivers to sit and wait and no where to stand either without getting in the way and having to constantly move for staff to get access. Another driver there also had a long wait. It would not be so bad if they had somewhere for delivery drivers to sit and wait out of the way. It actually took 25 minutes until I was given the delivery in the end, where I was given no updates until I had waited 20 minutes and then managed to flag down a member of staff to make sure everything was ok and it was still coming. I could be wrong, but it seems like they can't cope with the demand for food ordered by present customers as well as deliveries. With demand being busy during a peak time I expect I missed out on another order elsewhere due to the excessive wait time here. The music was really loud which made it difficult to talk to staff and understand them, along with customers shouting at each other over the loud music to try to hear each other, making the long wait uncomfortable.

Slow service and over cooked steak. I'm amazed by the good reviews lol. I won't be back.

My partner and I came on Saturday 14th October to listen to a D J & have a couple of drinks - we were stopped at the door by a lady who said My partner was not allowed in as he had jogging bottoms on - we have never heard this before- there was someone with thigh high boots on which apparently was acceptable - luckily we went to the Orleto lounge where we were welcomed to have a drink- cannot believe this happened in Basildon where there is not that many pubs open now !!!!!

Drug tested a minor for blowing their nose and staff were extremely rude and felt unwelcoming and offered no aplogies.

This is a nice pub run by a very helpful friendly couple. It wasn't packed and my party of 6 were able to find a nice table in the corner by one of the large windows. It also has a nice outside area for those days when you don't want to sit inside. There is a good selection of beers and spirits.

Went with family had a lovely dinner, food was great and service was very attentive. Food came quickly, hot and was very tasty. Nice selection of drinks, will definitely return

Appalling customer service in loft by the bartender Luke, very rude and shouting at me for no reason. Thankfully a tall red head male stepped to calm the situation. I have always found the staff in loft friendly but on this occasion no.

Given drink in dirty glass. When asked for clean glass. Woman poured the drink into the other glass and gave it to me and stated that the grub on the glass was part of the glass... I explained I did not want the drink. The employees manager eventually refunded the drink. Was with party of 4. Would not go back after the service given.
