Was in Whitstable for the day and we stumbled across this place for lunch. I had the pulled pork sandwich which came with crisps and salad. The pork was tasty and the bread was lovely! I also did a takeaway with the orange and chocolate cake, that was amazing! I wish I lived nearer so that I could go back again!

As has already been posted, The Bears Trading Company is a gem - it's certainly the most interesting, fun, satisfying restaurant/cafe in Tankerton/Whitstable and around the area. Last year we took the kids for a birthday party. They are clamouring for the The Bears again this year. I took some friends there for lunch last week. They'd never heard of it. Their joint response when we came out was WOW! The food's great, all very reasonably priced, super service, and the two lads/owners, Peter and Darren. area great company. Have a look at its website. The Bears Trading Company is simply super.

Great Afternoon Tea. Top layer lovely cakes, scones, creamy fruity meringue, choc dipped strawberries and macarons, bottom layer finger sandwiches, mini quiches, mini pies and savouries. Lots of treats but none of them heavy. Each bite thoroughly enjoyable. Genuinely bottomless Americano or good Tea to help things along. If its too much they have boxes and bags :) Super service with comfortable seating surrounded by (very appealing good brands of) teddy bears and similar that are either admiring your food or hoping you'll take them home with you. I'm not sure which is their priority :) £25 for afternoon tea but you must pre order. Everything is lovely though, even if you just walk in and 'go for it'.

Iv been visiting the teddy bear shop , of and on with family and friends over the yrs . But recently we have been going there on regular basis , in fact the last 3 Saturdays we have been in there for coffee and cakes , the cakes were generally very good. But apparently they stopped doing the toffee cake , which for me was a great shame , so I started to try there other cakes , the red velvet was sooooo very sweet , and I wasn’t keen on there carrot cake cake . Coffee was always gd nice and strong and hot . But on this occasion my family went there without me , and they we’re telling me how disappointed they were on that visit . They ordered red velvet cake , and there coffees , the cake turned up way before there coffees did , and that the cake was awful, so they mentioned this to the staff , well what played out after that was totally rude and unacceptable, they heard one of the owners say that they gotta still pay for the cake there was no apology absolutely NOTHING , and these lovely people go in there on regular basis . They were kept waiting at the till even though one of the owners was sitting right were they were standing , he didn’t do or say anything so they waited , the other owner who eventually came out stood his ground and still asked them to pay the full amount , even though the cake was un edible, after a discussion went back and forth , they ended having to pay full amount . Iv had business and you go way and beyond to please the customers, with out them your business fails . It would have been so much better if they didn’t charge them for the cake , and it wouldn’t have led it to this review , and the review that they left . What is wrong with people , at the end of the day would it have been so difficult for them to have said there sorry and take the cake of the bill , considering what’s going on in the world at the moment . I have been to plenty of restaurants cafes etc in my time , with friends and family , and had to complain about something , and not ONE OF THEM have ever acted the way that these owners have , we all won’t be going back there ever again , and word and mouth is a very powerful tool .

As a regular visitor to the cafe, with my wife and friends, we were bitterly disappointed with our visit today. We always have coffee and cake, which is generally very good.Today we ordered coffees and a slice of red velvet cake, which we have had numerous times before.Firstly, the cake was delivered, then we had to wait 10 minutes for the coffee (the waitress did say sorry), as they served people who came in after us first!Secondly, and the main issue, the cake was awful, certainly not the same as we have had before and expected this time.We mentioned to the waitress that is tasted terrible and was not edible, so she took it away, no offer to replace it or offer an alternative. When we went to pay, we had to wait another 10 minutes, even though one of the owners was sat at a table opposite where you pay. Then to add insult to injury, I was charged for the cake. After a long discussion, I was told that they were unable to sell our piece of cake so we had to pay!!So much for customer service and looking after loyal customers. Perhaps our custom is not worth the effort.I was totally taken by surprise by this attitude and expected better.NOT THE WAY I EXPECT TO BE TREATED, SO WILL NOT BE GOING BACK!!!!!

Just found this place on a walk around Tankerton and very happy we have discovered it. My wife and i were taking our 5 month old out for one of the first times in lockdown and from the word go felt very safe here. We were offered seating inside or out and there were plenty to choose from. Sitting in the garden we had enough space to feel comfortable and room for our pushchair.Food wise, we both had sandwiches, I had a prawn marie rose which was delicious and my wife had Sausages and onion which she loved. The atmosphere was perfect, relaxed and friendly, the staff were great and we almost managed to finish our huge ice cream sundaes! Great place i would highly recommend and will certainly be returning too.

Sometimes you find somewhere special, and want to keep it to yourself for fear of too many people descending on your favourite place, but it'd be unfair to not share about this place.Their food is awesome - quality, quantity, kit and kaboodle but what makes this place so good is the atmosphere, and the friendly welcome, no matter how busy they are when you arrive. Oh and all the cool bear stuff is a bonus too! Now, please all don't rush there when I want a table!

Visited Bears Trading Company Cafe for the first time last Sunday morning. Nice friendly atmosphere in the place. It was quite full but we got a table for 4 ok. I had a really nice cheese scone and a Mocha to drink. All tasted great. They do quite a variety of cafe based dishes and specials. The portions were good and the prices very reasonable. Would certainly return. The choice of "celebratory" cards in the back wall area is "quite entertaining"...

Horrifying experience. Whilst sitting eating cake two of the boys knelt on a chair to look out of the window as there was a very imposing bird cage in our view. .As they looked out of the window the shelf below the window had a number of sharp metal objects that fell on the head of one of the boys. The shelf that fell was not made at all secure to the window of the wall so the window was just sitting there nor did the shelf have any secure fastenings to hold the shelf to the window or to the wall. When all the sharp objects fell off the shelf and the loose shelf came tumbling down onto the boys heads the owner flew out of the kitchen firstly shouting at me (mother) and then at the boys who by this time were close to tears. Not only did the owner shout at the boys but he then told them to repeat the same action they did to see how the shelf fell. So he told the boys to get back on the chair and show the owner how the shelf fell - no apology came from the owner just abuse towards me and the boys. The owner turned to me and shouted 'do you let your children do this at home? Still no apology to the children who was standing there after a metal chicken fell on his head. AT NO POINT DID THE OWNER ASK IF THE CHILDREN WERE OK. I simply told the owner the shelf is dangerous it is above a table where people sit and on the shelf which is not secure but just sitting there is full of dangerous objects with SHARP METAL points on them. I spoke to the two owners and said to them after they were so rude that there should not be a loose shelf above a table with sharp metal objects on as this is HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARD. According to the two owners of the BEAR TRADING COMPANY - The shelf falling on the boys heads was all my fault!!! apparently. The fact that the loose dangerously hanging shelf and its entire contents of sharp objects falling on the heads of children did not get any apology from the owners or myself yet Instead we were told to get out and never come back. This tea room is clearly geared up for children to come in and have ice creams and cake yet the way - THEtwo male owners spoke to the two ten year olds who were shocked and close to tears at the way they were spoken to I would never take my children or anyone elses children in there again.. THE two male owners are SO RUDE AND clearly have EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER CARE- HOW THEY CAN POSE AS SANTA CLAUSE AT CHRISTMAS INVITING CHILDREN to come in and see them dressed as SANTA IS BEYOND ME WHEN THEY CLEARLY DISLIKE CHILDREN. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL EXPERIENCE FOR THE BOYS AND NOT A PLEASURABLE PLACE TO BE IN WITH CHILDREN - I WILL NEVER RETURN AGAIN!

This café has potential, good ice cream and coffee, and a nice garden at the back. However, it has a huge bathroom, with no baby changing facilities. There's no changing table or designated space to change a baby, despite having a bear theme which is aimed at children. Worse still, they actually go out of their way to make the lives of parents a little more difficult: in the bathroom, a very strange notice asks parents to "please take any soiled baby nappies away with you", as staff there don't like dealing with them and it enables the café to apparently 'raise more for charity' by not providing nappy bins (?). One has to be completely out of touch with the customer's needs by going down this route! So instead of taking away memories of a nice coffee, I was holding a dirty nappy as I left the café. Would not visit again.

This is the least child friendly cafe I have ever subjected a child or indeed myself to. A fine example of choosing a career that doesn't suit the strengths of an individual, or individuals in this cafes case. On the five occasions I have frequented The Bear Trading Company I have had one positive experience, but that was without any children in our party. Today, against my better judgement I met a friend and her family at noon for lunch in the cafe. Why would a cafe that says it is child friendly have a books for sale, at child eye level, called 'Badly Timed Boners' with a cartoon erection on the front cover! Also, at eye level greeting cards with profanities on the front. Today, the waitress, as on previous occasions, was unable to utilise any form of welcome. At her suggestion my seven year old ordered a fish finger sandwich. When it arrived the kitchen staff (owner) had smothered it in tartar sauce. I politely asked the male waiter (who in my opinion is the only member of staff with even a modicum of social skills) to return it to the kitchen as tartar sauce hadn't been requested. One of the owners came to our table and said that we should have requested no tartar. I pointed out that as the sandwich isn't on the menu and a member of staff had suggested it, how could we have known that it came with tartar. I requested another sandwich but was told by the cook that we would have to pay for the first sandwich. To this I said no, and that we wouldn't in that case order a second sandwich this time without tartar. If the food for the others at our table hadn't already been delivered we would have left due to his (in my opinion) surly nature. When it was time to pay we were expected to pay for the sandwich that we hadn't requested the one that had been served with tartar and the waitress was outrageously rude in the way she spoke to us. Eventually the younger polite male waiter said that he would cover the cost of the sandwich. I said that I wouldn't expect him to do that as he had been the only helpful member of staff. Out of concern for him, and him only, I said that I would pay half as I didn't want it being taken from his wages. The children in our party were as shocked as the adults with one of them saying "please don't make us ever go there again." I am certain that we won't, and just as certain that the cafe will be pleased with that arrangement too. Fortunately our children know how welcome they are made to feel just along the road in Quite Contrary, where not only is the food good, but it is a cafe that accommodates children appropriately.

Went in for an afternoon coffee with a friend at 3 for the first time. I didn’t realise it shut at 4 until there was furious hoovering around us and the lights were switched off! The waitress was pretty humourless and the whole experience felt unfriendly. Inside feels a bit Twin Peaks and the notice in the loo about not having a nappy bin for poo producing bears was weird and felt a little anti-kids even though they donate the nappy bin money to PFAs. Seems weird not to be that way when it is a cafe with bears in. It’s the opposite of what I thought it would be, which was fun.

The best little coffee shop in the area. Great coffee and sublime cakes (guaranteed to be low calorie and low fat - not)! A wonderful atmosphere with great staff. Decked out a log cabin in the far north with bears and the occasional moose lurking in every corner. Also great for that unusual gift or card for someone special. Can thoroughly recommend. Child and dog friendly too.

We normally pop in at least once a week, sometimes for lunch sometimes just for coffee. Such a friendly place and Darren and Peter can't do enough for you. Everything is just 1st class from the food to the coffee to the guts they sell. And next week sees the opening of Santas grotto......can't wait to take my grandson. Thanks Pete and Darren

Our favourite cafe in Tankerton and Whitstable area, always made to feel welcome as is our Beagle pup Betty. When we get here she knows straight away how to get to their garden, which is full of plants and nature. The owners always make a fuss of her too. Great service and food good, especially the homemade soups. Definitely visit if you're in the area!

Really great place for a tasty light or hearty snack, cream tea and cakes, nice coffee or one of many flavours of ice cream (salted caramel in waffle cone!) lovely outside seating to rear, plenty of seats inside, plus a deck area out front for watching world go by in Tankerton. I did like the selection of gifts, really lovely wooden and vintage style items and some nice bear related items plus lots of soft toy bears too.. This is a great place to visit when in Tankerton with a very friendly welcome and great service. Annoyed I hadn't been here before. Its open 7 days in the summer so no excuse now!

We visited after being recommended by a friend. Wow I love it ! Lovely tea and cakes and ice cream! My husband said his carrot cake was the best he'd ever had . I love all the bears on the shelves, I have to admit I bought one and it was really reasonably priced. Although there were some steiff bears in a cabinet that had lovely faces! I did eye up some other peoples grub which looked delicious! This cake shop is going to be my local. Oh and the chaps running it are great.

As you walk in the atmosphere is welcoming. We only had tea, coffee and cake but the sandwiches looked great. The coffee was of good strength but no bitterness. Good portion size of cake, with some interesting flavours including Apple drizzle cake and sticky toffee salted caramel.

We went there for a snack lunch and found the atmosphere very inviting. The food was delicious and we had ham sandwiches and toasted teacakes, the latter brought out at the right time so they didn't get cold. We also enjoyed an excellent cup of coffee. The staff/owners were very friendly and the whole experience was very enjoyable.

Visited today with my Wife and our puppy just for a look see as was passing through Tankerton and my Wife collects bears. We were all made to feel so welcome,(especially our puppy), seeing their fantastic looking range of cakes we decided to have a coffee and cake rest stop, which after looking at the menu became a pork pie ploughmans, butternut squash soup, coffee, pican & rosemary cake and sticky toffee and caramel cake stop.

Visited here today and had a nice relaxing lunch. We had the ploughman's lunch and the home made cakes were excellent. Also the coffee was of very good quality, nice and hot and the addition of the biscuit on the side was nice. Reasonably priced. Ristretto was spelt incorrectly on the menu and its little touches like this that probably need ironing out. But that is a very small thing. The service was non intrusive and fairly friendly and very efficient.. I would return here again and on the whole it was a great experience.

Arrived to a very loud and noisy bar to find out our table was next to the door, across from the bar and next to noisy drinkers. We waited 15 mins for a drink although the drinkers at the bar where served ahead of our drinks order.....we knew then we had made a mistake! The food was excellent we both cleared our plate but atmosphere, service and attention to detail was lacking. Would not return in the immediate future.
