I never leave reviews, but feel I must for this. Went here yesterday , 4 of us, for roast dinner, very disappointed. Hardly any food on the plate, almost no vegetables, the potatoes were worse than aunt Bessie's frozen ones. The only nice thing was the Yorkshire pudding and celeriac puree . had to ask for more gravey, as hardly any on plate,and for more vegetables. Then got the cheese plate for dessert, again , very disappointed, small piece of cheddar and small slice of brie, with rock hard , over toasted , crackers that nearly broke a tooth !! Then was charged service fee automatically of around £25. A wasted £215 on a very low quality meal. Wine also well over priced. Will not be visiting again.

We had a really lovely dinner, we had the sunday roast and it was cooked perfectly! Service was excellent!

Well what can I say. We ordered our food and drinks. Starter arrived before our drinks. My sirloin steak was so tough and had so much gristle at the edges and through the middle. It was clear that the restaurant have bought food from a poor standard supplier as I have never eaten sirloin so awful before. Also the sticky toffee pudding was virtually cold. We asked for the bill, they charged us for the sirloin so we asked if there was something that can be done about the charge for the steak. Rhe waitress came back with the charge taken out but the cheeky manager added service. All in all a bar experience. No wonder the restaurant was empty.

The atmosphere with the fire going was very nice. Tables spacing was also just right. The service was attentive and professional without being intrusive. Unfortunately the roast was not great. The serving size was fine. Not much in the way of greens. The chicken skin wasn’t crisp , a bit squidgy the chicken was bland, the Yorkshire pudding was very dry, overcooked and obviously been sitting warming for a while . I’d definitely return to the Bear but sadly not for the roast.

A lovely atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff. As a gluten free vegitarian Sahin was knowledgeable and helpful to ensure I enjoyed my meal. The Bear is an excellent place to eat if you are unable to eat gluten.

Food was a little on the average side but wouldn't hesitate to order again

Sunday evening dinner here .it was not good.my roast pork dinner looked and tasted like it had been cooked 6 hours previous..cheese board old and sad .sausage came with no mash as indicated on the menu .nobody came to ask how is your meal. Dont go here .waste of your precious money

The ambience is lovely in this 28th century pub. Excellent gluten free burger for lunch. GF knowledge was spot on!

Had a lovely meal at The Bear and our waitress Iryna was friendly, attentive and efficient. Had a very enjoyable evening.

Exemplary service from Zaira coupled with super food. Would help if there was an outside light to assist returning to the car in the dark.

Easy online booking. Small car park but lovely outdoor terrace. Lovely atmosphere and tasty food. Check beforehand if it is a quiz night, as it is very loud and difficult to have a conversation. Dog friendly.

The place is Fantastic and it has plenty of parking space. The space has beautiful flower basket arrangements and great seats outside. They offered a full range of drinks but not cheap. The desserts were catered and not that great, but I still have not tried the food. Great place to visit with friends and family!

Walked in and the first thing I was greeted by was the very friendly Bar man - Sal. He whipped up a lovely passion fruit martini for myself and made some beautiful Guinness art for another customer as well. On top of that, his service was excellent as he kept on top of our orders to make sure that the food came out as soon as possible. I ordered the steak frites which was delicious, however the steak was ever so slightly underdone. All in all, great experience and will definitely be going back!

Went to the bear to have a few after-work drinks. The barman, Sal, was very friendly and made some delicious cocktails. Very dog friendly, very nice vibe. Would totally recommend!

Pub lunch done right. Great experience at The Bear for lunch with my family. Tasty, fresh food cooked really well. The Bear burger was delicious, the risotto was fresh and full of flavour, the buttery mash with the pie was creamy and buttery and so delicious. The veg was perfectly cooked, vibrant green with a bite. Lovely attentive and friendly service. Couldn't fault it. Well done The Bear!

Fun pub, and great as Young's pub they have Deya Steady Rolling Man on tap! Didn't have the chance to eat there, but other people's burgers near us looked amazing - will be back! Also plenty of free parking at the back of pub, in addition to the spaces at the front near the road.

Lovely big place to go and enjoy the country, proper selection of beers and the food is just the best: serves Vegans nicely as well. A must if in the area-also the big boss man Tom is cracking company.

Had a fantastic dinner at the Bear recently. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, with friendly staff especially Tom who made us feel right at home. The bear burger was delicious, cooked perfectly and full of flavour. The drink selection was impressive too, we finished our meal with a sweet cocktail. Overall, a great spot for a relaxed and satisfying meal. Definitely worth a visit! Will be back!

Lovely clean & tidy pub near Oxshott. Friendly staff & very nice food.

Over 1 hour wait for lunch during the day is not ideal

Lovely pub in the leafy village of Oxshott. Stunning inviting terrace to the front of the pub, a perfect spot for a quick bite to eat in the sun. Classic food offering, but served with a smile and nothing was too much trouble

We were fortunate enough to enjoy my baby shower at this beautiful pub with such friendly welcoming staff and a warm relaxed atmosphere last year in July … well we loved it so much we came back to celebrate our daughters first birthday party. We love the option of having the front of bar area as well as a decking section for family party’s. We chose the bear board and cheese board and it was delicious. All of our guests commented on what a lovely atmosphere The Bear holds. Thankyou so much for everything we will be back <3

Comfortable and roomy pub Well cooked food

We arrived at 7.30 for dinner ordered food but it took about an hour for the food to arrive. The food was nice and the staff were pleasant. Then ordered some more drinks when the food arrived then the drinks arrived when we had nearly finished the meal.

overall its ok, pretty pub with nice service but the food wasnt amazing. starters ordered potted dorset crab and pan fried scallops, crab was served in a lemon curd pot and i'll be honest a bit too much lemon curd. it was really strong and served with crispy bread which was quite hard to bite. the scallops were small and overdone but the dressing was decent. mains: steak and chips and fish and chips, fish and chips cooked nicely, flaky and crispy, steak was a little overdone for a medium rare, tough to cut through, but that could be the cut of meat. cant complain about the beers and company, they did the trick. not local so wouldnt return, but looks the part for this area.

Great pub for lunch whether it’s sitting outside on the deck or in a cosy booth near the log fire. Lunch menu is good & the light menu gives you you delicious sandwich options. The young staff are always friendly & attentive. Top tip if you fancy the Bear Pub burger which is 5 stars, I’d suggest passing on the bacon & onion ring extras - £4 for 3 x onion rings & a slice of bacon is a joke. Update - went for lunch on Monday & am sorry to say the food wasn’t as good as before. We ordered a scallop starter which the menu said included haggis & bacon crumb. Neither on the plate, instead 4 x small scallops with chorizo slices for £12😱. Staff were quick to apologise & replaced the dish with Avocado on toast with a poached egg which was ok but bread was tough & they struggled to refund us the difference between the two dishes. Will think twice about choosing The Bear again.

We went for a birthday lunch on a Monday lunchtime. We waited ages - 45 mins - for the food to arrive. I wanted a light lunch so ordered a starter of scallops with haggis and bacon crumb for £12. When it arrived there were 4 tiny scallops, some chopped thin chorizo slices (not crispy)and some chopped parsley. No haggis and no bacon crumb. I should have taken a photo but I was so disappointed I forgot. The waitress was lovely and took it back inside to query it with the chef. Apparently the menus haven’t been updated and that is the new dish. They were happy to replace it for me with some avocado and poached egg on toast (£9). My advice - don’t order the scallops! Other dishes we ordered: The Bear Burger - 10/10 Avocado & chicken sandwich -8/10 ( Bread slices were over an inch thick each) Avocado & Egg toast -7/10 Egg was nicely cooked. Far too much garlic in the avocado. Not finely chopped so chunks of it. Fish cake - 7/10 Small more like a starter size and expensive for what it was. Not sure we will go back.

Visited the Bear for the first time recently after a walk on Box hill. Really friendly staff. Lovely , excellent quality , delicious food and nice drinks as well. Would gladly return again in the future. Lovely gastro pub.

Food was sub standard. We ordered a mocha and flat white and were served filter coffee and milk on the side and a cup of coffee mixed with cocoa.

We had 4 difference dishes on a quiet Thursday evening, all not that great or even pretty bad. I start with the worst. The Schnitzel was dry and small and things were missing. It actually wasn't a Schnitzel. They forgot the tomatoes in the sad Rocket and tomatoe salad. The egg on top of the Schnitzel, was cold and dry. To charge £17 for a 'battered chicken something', a small cold, dried fried egg and a small wet rocket side, is just shocking. The staff weren't really apologetic about, just took the critism on and left it there, which is no good really. They took off one Schnitzel of the bill at the end, which was the least they could do. The steak wasn't rare, wrong sauce got given with the steak. The Cider battered Fish. Oh my. Not nice at all. The flesh smelled strange and the flavour was off. I never had a Fish and Chips that weird tasting and actually quiet bad. The chips supposed to be triple cooked. They weren't. Some of the chips weren't even cooked properly. It all felt a bit awkward towards the end. Because none of the dishes were great and the staff wasn't really on our side. I think in general dishes are too highly priced for what you get.

Beautiful place to visit for drinks or Sunday lunch like us, we have been here many times before and always come back. Stunning terrace to enjoy when it's sunny and inside a large, beautifully decorated restaurant to enjoy. The food is phenomenal, really tasty and well portioned. Kids enjoyed their food and were kept entertained by the crayons and colouring. Service was superb, making the whole experience just that bit better.

I went there for a social evening. The staff were brilliant and provided great service. Although I did not eat the portions looked larger than other places I have been too. Everyone should visit at least once to experience the atmosphere.

Took my team for a working lunch as our office is just down the road. Easy to book, menu is great and very friendly service. They did miss the fact we wanted 2 burgers and only brought one out but how they handled it was excellent; big smile, big apology & a quick 2nd burger delivered! Loved the food - one of the guys even thought the asparagus was better than the potted crab!

We celebrated a significant birthday on Sat 20/04/24 and we had a great time. Large family gathering in the private room. Gina was so lovely. Great customer care with a smile. Great food and great atmosphere. The food took a while to be served though.

I would like to say that Christian was so attentive even short staffed he didn’t have us waiting. He made my experience here delightful!

Absolutely wonderful lunch yesterday! I haven’t been to The Bear for years and was so surprised to see it had been refurbed and had a fabulous atmosphere. Busy but not too busy. Lunch was great. We will be back! X

Really nice atmosphere at the Bear, I discovered it on a cycle ride, I really recommend lunch there, the club sandwich was delicious! Jack was brilliant, friendly and added to our experience. The Sunday lunch was nice. Great spot on a sunny day, I'll be back in the near future.

Today was our second time visiting the lovely Bear Oxshott for a roast, after the last time being amazing we returned for more! Service and food is stunning and we will always be visiting regularly, whether it’s for a drink with a good atmosphere or the lovely food. Highly recommend!

I booked a birthday lunch for a party of 11-12 people for my family and friends, and I was pretty disappointed with the level of service and the quality of food. Three of us, including myself, had to return the Sunday roast, and the service was absolutely appalling and not friendly at all, especially considering that they had a 12.5 % service charge on the bill. The waitress must be trained to take an order and not repeat everything back to the customer or be judgmental of the client's orders. I regret choosing The Bear as a venue; I would NOT recommend it, nor would I revisit them.

Very family and dog friendly pub, restaurant, there for a birthday. Nice well cooked food service good, not intrusive but still available serving staff. Was a bit too noisy with TV on as well as music and people. Would definitely go again. Gorgeous hand wash and clean loos, always important in my book.

DON'T DO IT!! Such a disapointment, The reviews before were being generous. The price of the food compared to the quality is shocking. We ordered a Roast dinner, and it was one of the worst I've had, and cost £22! The meat is cheap and thin, the potatos were dry and overcooked and there's only 5 items on the plate. For the location and the size of the venue, it could be so much better, the venue was practically empty on a sunday afternoon/evening, which should have been the first give away!
