Squires Garden Centre in Elmbridge

Just wanted to thank Squires at Hersham for a lovely visit from residents and caters at the Eliza Palmer Care home☺️

Lovely time catching up with good friends.

The manager of this cafe is an absolute joke! I came in today had to wait an hour for my food. The entire front room was stacked with dirty trays and can clearly see staff waiting aroud. With a trolly of trays already full surely someone would take action. The manager seemed rude and entitled and the staff seemed genuinely intimidated.

Service is unbelievably slow and the food is not that good

Popped in for a late breakfast which was tasty and reasonably priced. You can choose how many items you want .. great for small eaters. Cheeful service then payment at your table so no queuing up. Enjoyed the lovely flowers etc, bought a few gifts, cards and some herbs. Great morning out. Always such a cheerful place.

Who doesn’t love Squires!? Although part of a bigger chain, it feels like a local business, and owing to the lovely, friendly and helpful staff there, it almost feels like a family run concern. Usually a good selection of quality plants, competitively priced, irrespective of the season. The shop feels slightly smaller than other local competitors, however, it packs in a lot, and it carries similar ranges of products to others, although I’ve not found the Ecofective Brand (a favourite organic, pet, wildlife and children friendly range of garden treatments), in others. I’ve never used the cafe but it always seems popular and busy, with functional, if a little basic, restrooms, and reasonable opening hours. We are lucky to have several garden centres within a sensible radius (for those with a car), Squires is in a good location, it’s easy to park, and it hits just the right balance, about the right size, not too small, not too big for it to be overwhelming. The choice and quality of plants, plus the quality of service, means it gets a ‘highly recommended’ rating.

I had the best full English breakfast I have eaten in a long time. Each component was cooked to perfection so probably freshly cooked to order.

Good choice of the items and plants in the shop but the cafe is not good. Food was not really tasty as you could have expected from the restaurant and a coffee- it was just a water with coffee flavour. Disappointing

Lovely little cafe. Really tasty food. Not on the cheap side but made with care.

£6.99 for one slice of cheesecake. This was to takeaway with a coffee. It didn't hit me till I was on my way. Now I know why none of the cakes were priced up. Deliberate deception ? But I learned a lesson, to ask prices and never to use any Squires cafes again.

Lovely centre, cafe and staff. Highly recommended and far, far better than the obvious rival.

Garden centre full of staff, cafe with no staff and large queue of people waiting to finally be told it’s an hours wait for food and drinks due to a backlog. We left and went elsewhere

Was disappointed on our last visit 18 months ago and thought I would try again. The waitress recommended not to order as a hours waiting time and couldn’t confirm if the breakfast would arrive. The management need to invest some time in recruitment as just two ladies were working

Clean, tidy and well kept plants and flowers. Great variety too with good stock. My favourite squires branch.

Good for your garden. Breakfast in thier cafe was awesome, great quality food and service was impeccable. Great upper class service.

I picked up 6 sets of battery powered Christmas lights from a stand of about 50 boxes all clearly priced up a 99p . At the check out however they came up at £12.99 a set ! When I quired this the manager was quite rude and refused to sell them at the advertised price . I said that similar lights were £1 in poundland. The manager laughed at me and said "well this is not Poundland is it" obviously not there cheap lights are 13 times the price. Unfortunately I was ushered away and so were the lights so I couldn't photograph them. I made a formal complaint to head office and had a nonsense reply but nothing was done. Hardly even an apology. The woman behind me in the checkout was also questioning the price she had already paid for children's books that were marked up with prices that didn't tally with her receipt she was overcharged by £12. Go elsewhere, dirty shop, rude manager massively overpriced !

Enjoyed a lovely lunch with a dear friend and then bought plants to brighten my garden 🌻🌹

Overall good value as the plants are well organised, staff are knowledgeable and there are always a few discounted plants 👍

Great customer service from Steve in the furniture department. We needed the garden set delivered earlier and Steve pulled out all the stops to deliver it on the same day they received it from the manufacturer.

Bought 5 raspberry canes gift, 3 are dead. Never bought them before & didn’t get a receipt

Just a shame the menu ends earlier now for food.

Very disappointed. Coffee warm to cold, matched by staff attention. Spent our half hour there facing the collection of staff bags and coats, also a drop with cleaning spray and blue roll. Tea cake was a long time coming, not enough butter and flavour dry and bland. We wanted this experience to be so much better. Garden centre staff were excellent.

Nice variety of plants. Cafe is not so good. Our order was not as we asked & took a while to get someone to take our order & cutlery.

I only met a friend at the cafe so cannot really say much. The whole place was very busy though and trolleys well loaded. I would have stayed longer (and will certainly go there again) if I had not been on my way to Wales!

I visited with my daughter to do the Easter holiday planting activity and treasure hunt. The staff running the session (Steve and Lily I think) were both so lovely and helpful, engaging my 4 year old in conversation and letting her choose her plants to pot. She loved it! We had a snack in the cafe too, and then did the Easter flower hunt. All staff were friendly and welcoming. Will definitely come back for future visits and activities.

Needed some trailing geraniums, member of staff was really helpful Absolutely packed with people spending a fortune on their spring plants There are so many lovely goodies inside the store

Just a shame we had to wait 40 minutes for lunch.

What absolute gem. After having to go to the pet cemetery and coping with my dad’s grief, I took him here to occupy him whilst waiting. The cafe staff were absolutely fantastic, the food was gorgeous. After wandering out to the plant section which is small but oh my god, an amazing selection even at this early time. But a massive thank you to Nina, who served me and dad, honestly she couldn’t have been any more kinder to my dad. Also came to the till and wished us a safe journey home. Also the young lad who took all my purchases to the car was amazing. If only you would open one up in Essex. Mind you I would be broke.

Rated best squires in 2023 and you can see why great selection of plants, educational toys and all your gardening needs. What stands out the most is the lovely and friendly staff.

Excellent bargains in the post Christmas period. The most helpful and friendly staff I've ever met.

A group of nine of us had the set Christmas lunch. It was amazing. Generous portions and the desserts were a work of art.

Good selection of plant both indoor and outdoor as well as gardening equipment. There is also a section of gifts. Helpful staff who will gift wrap plants.

We usually look forward to cake and coffee after shopping, but the normal wedge of cake was replaced by a small dried out piece in a small cardboard box. The cake tasted more like the box and not a walnut to be found and struggled to taste coffee. Squires, rather than waste your money on the cardboard box, go back to just cutting the cake. Much nicer.

Nice tea. We had earl grey, with scones and cake. Polite serving staff.

Beautiful garden centre with a great selection of home and garden furnishings, decor, plants and more. Unfortunately the Cafe is terrible!! Filthy glass and saucer which had to be returned to a less than friendly, disinterested waitress. Scone was dry and definitely not fresh. Staff are rude and left us loitering at the entrance waiting to be seated. A very unfortunate experience as we have just relocated to Hersham, but won't be visiting this cafe again. There are other coffee shops and cafes in the area that offer a far superior customer experience.

The garden and non garden items are good here; but I wish they would re open the food and drink counter in the cafe. I recently visited with a friend down from London and we simply wanted to buy a couple of coffees and a cake to share before finding somewhere to sit. However, the food and drink counter was completely devoid of staff and we had to go and find someone who told us to take a seat and a colleague would come to take our simple order and payment. We were completely ignored for at least ten minutes when I then had to go and find somebody again! This eventually happened and an order was at last made and delivered. I realise there is an online booking system which people can continue to use if need be, especially for a main meal like lunch, but for small ad hoc drinks and snacks, as mentioned, it would be great for the counter to re open. This is what seems to work ok locally at places like Claremont Gardens and downstairs at Brooklands Museum.

Butternut squash and chickpea curry with naan bread. Very tasty, mild. Unfortunately service was slow.

Surprised when I walked in to see the Christmas displays already up!! Squires seems to have very cleverly taken over to role of local department store and offer so much more than just garden supplies. Having said that, we bought a tree....and coffees, and birthday cards.....

I find the isle narrow especially as I have a puschair when I often visit. But I enjoy the environment and love all the options of gifts all be that it around Xmas time things was on the change... and displays being altered.

Very nice place, less busy than most , great for a bite to eat or just a cupper tea. Plants are in good condition and friendly staff.

Had Breakfast this morning. The place has gone right down hill. They brought dirty tea pot and saucer that I returned. Then the breakfast come. The sausages were rank, yesterdays I told the guy serving. Top dollar for breakfast in here too. Shame it used to be so good, a treat but no more I’m afraid.

Very poor signage. Very poor cafe. But appreciate it is work in progress.

This usually is really nice but today was shocking We sat down at a table which was filthy and we had to ask someone to clean it Which the crumbs were flicked all over us And then we ordered our food and drinks Which were came really quick but omg the member of staff who was so rude and attitude I don’t know if she was manager as she was wearing a white shirt She didn’t say a word and slammed our tray of drinks down and just walked off not even a smile when we looked the teaspoons were filthy dirty I didn’t even use the teaspoon in the end The food came and the other member of staff who brought that over was so nice and pleasant but the food itself We had ordered a steak burger and two baguettes a BLT and a Tuna baguette Well the burger look nice but was luke warm and the chips were stone cold And well the baguettes the bread was hard and tasted like it was going stale There was no one to complain too behind the counter and then we wanted a couple of glasses of water went to the place to get free water and OMG the glasses looked like they hadn’t been washed for months and then when I looked at the water it looked like that hadn’t been cleaned and not been used for months so decided against the water But this usually is a lovely little place to have lunch so maybe this was a bad day as they were advertising for staff so let’s hope this cafe gets better

Had Lunch with a friend but couldn’t eat it as the Gammon was like shoe leather, couldn’t even cut through it! The orzo salad was ordered with chicken, it was all processed rubbery chicken pieces. Service was Bad, as they Nobody came and checked, if everything was ok Would not recommend this place

Great for breakfast but has a slow service as there is often a long wait for food! Understandable when it’s busy but it has happened on many occasions.

Poor quality food and rude cafe staff. The cakes and scones are dry and the hot breakfast is rubbish. Other garden centre restaurants in the area are far better.

Good selection of healthy plants and very nice cafe. But no signal and can't connect to your Guest WiFi - not helpful when our book club meets there and would like to find info on future reads.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Walton-on-Thames Squires Garden Centre, and the entire trip was wonderful. The Burwood Road garden Centre is a sanctuary for anyone with a green thumb or a love of outdoor settings because it provides a wide range of gardening lovers with products and services. A lovely and well-kept nursery area welcomed me as soon as I walked inside Squires Garden Centre. It was astonishing how many different kinds of plants, flowers, and shrubs were available to suit different gardening interests and styles. I was able to find the ideal additions for my garden since the staff was helpful, amiable, and willing to offer advice and assistance.

Had special offer on - 15% off all day if you arrived early, even in cafe. Wide range of plants, flowers and vege. Plus everything else for garden.

Nice breakfast good service plenty of parking, cutlery not very clean especially the tea spoons

Went for a coffe a slice of cake and ended up buying a few other bits. Nice place with great restaurant ladies. Fun and knowledgeable and could have a laugh. I'll be back (who said that?).

Garden centre ok, restaurant poor. Granted they had a sign up about slow service due to staff shortages, so we expected a wait but we got completely forgotten about and waited nearly 40mins for someone to take our order. When they finally came over to take the order, after 2 reminders, they had virtually nothing left on lunch menu, maybe 3 items so our lunch out, which had been booked in advance ended up being coffee & light bites!! Really poor and won't go back there any time soon.

Disgusting service by one of the female staff today,was welcomed very rudely when was wanting a table for five,then when upon arrival to our table we ordered 3 creamed teas but only received two pots,we then asked the waitress to rectify the issue and she told us that the pots were the same sizes which they clearly were not,will not be going there again

My experience at squires garden centre was awesome.

Unfortunately due to staff shortages there was a 30 minute wait even for a cup of coffee, so we left.

This is a smaller Squires than it's neighbours, easy parking, the usual range of interior bits and bobs. Plants looked healthy and all retirees seated in coffee shop with no intention of leaving. No space so no lunch.

Christmas arrives, a bit early maybe. Chasing the pennies? The cafe has improved, good service, yummy food.

Compelled to write a review on the change of management resulting in change of policies on plants and bad customer service. Such a shame as Squires has always been our go to store near Weybridge to buy plants, enjoy a meal and buy a thing or two all these years. The staff have always been lovely and helpful.
