On our last day we decided to pack our camping gear and walk down to st Ives for a nice fish and chips treat. Our usual restaurant had a big queue so we decided to give this place a go as it had such good reviews, big mistake. This restaurant has no queues for a reason. The fish was slimy and tasteless and the batter was soggy. The chips were not ‘proper’ fish and chip shop chips, they were frozen. The only good part was the peas. Total waste of £50 plus for 2 lots of fish, chips and peas, a child’s portion of goujons and 2 cokes. We will not return and can’t recommmend. Go to the restaurant at the opposite end of the beachfront strip!!

I hate writing bad reviews, but this place really needs constructive criticism. We visited st Ives today, I had been really looking forward to fish and chips as a treat. I bought a cod, chips and gravy costing over £15 this was the worst fish and chips Iv ever had! The fish tasted awful the batter was soggy and tasteless, the fish inside the batter was grey and mushy and the chips weren’t fresh, they were frozen still hard in the middle. An expensive disappointment I’m afraid. 👎🏻

This is an underrated restaurant which we have been visiting for the last ten years. The food is always excellent, their sea bass in particular, with generous portions. Being St Ives and on the beach, fish is their speciality and all the dishes are good. The views over the harbour are lovely as our the staff. A great place.

I had their fish and chips and enjoyed them so much that I returned the next day for their beef burger without breaking the bank. The food is freshly prepared to order. This was a huge bonus because I could customise my order to suit my personal tastes. I will be eating there again on my next visit to St. Ives.

Before I wrote this review I emailed the restaurant with my comments one week ago on 12th June 2024 to info@beachrestaurant.co.uk - They have chosen not to even respond. Having had faultless food in your restaurant for the best part of 20 years, and with the restaurant playing a central role in our regular visits to St Ives, today left us feeling flat, sad and thoroughly robbed of nearly seventy pounds. We ordered the mackerel pate which turnout of to be the only dish which lived up to your usual standards. We also ordered the squid which was totally overcooked (burnt) to the point of coating falling off, and was full of grease and sickly. Next came the main courses. Firstly Scallops. Any self respecting foodie can identify these as the small frozen type, no roe, which came totally overcooked and dry. These came with an ordered side of pepper sauce (mainly for the chips) which was under flavoured, very watery and highly processed. Secondly, King Prawns. This was not only underwhelming but was wrongfully described as King Prawns when they were clearly nothing more than the large cold-water prawns that you get from any supermarket. These in particular were a disgrace and highly misleading. If you have a pro chef then they will know the definition of King Prawns! We did not get an opportunity to comment, neither throughout the meal, or when the bill was brought, or when we paid or left, as absolutely no one bothered to ask if everything was OK. The same can be said for refreshing our drinks, as despite both of us running out before finishing our starter, no one asked us if we wanted anything else! Not really sure what was going on today, but rather than being a keyboard warrior on trip advisor, I thought I would email you first with an honest appraisal to allow you to respond. It will be desperately sad for us and indeed your future, if you think today was acceptable. I am rather hoping that there is a good reason for this and if so, would love to forgive you and pretend today did not happen. Endless happy memories at the Beach Restaurant and we would rather be encouraged that it will remain a bastion of the food culture at St Ives.

We didn’t book so this was just an off spec meal. We were made very welcome despite no booking. A smalll menu with several specials. The mussels were excellent best we have had over the holiday. Mixed three fish was also really great. An amazing view overlooking St Ives harbour. Really friendly restaurant, excellent views, and great food.

There was nothing special about our takeaway fish and chips here. The chips were large and uninteresting. Calamari tiny and dry whilst the prawns had little taste. We were also charged 60p for a tiny package of tomato sauce. We will not return. It is inexpensive however.

We visited here for takeaway fish and chips on Sunday, at around 6pm and the queue was long and just didnt seem to move ...after queuing for about 40 mins the selection was dire ...no scampi , no pies , the cod had been cooked to death and was so small I didnt think it was cod .The sausage in batter were tiny too , and the batter looked like the fat had seen better days ...The portion sizes were mediocre too. The bus driver recommended a better fish and chip shop in Newlyn ...I wished I'd have driven there.......On a bank holiday weekend post covid you would have expected more staff on and better choice . Need to up your game big time ....

The menu has changed quite significantly since last September, but there is still a good choice of fish and only a couple of non fish options.I love this restaurant, several of the staff have been here 10 or more years and they provide excellent service with good knowledge of the food and options available. My starter, Salt & Pepper Squid was very tasty and easy to eat, followed by ‘ Catch of the Day’, Sea Bass fillets.(2) which was cooked in panko dusted batter and tasted perfect. Lobster was available for £50 or £27 for half a lobster. My wife had crispy Sesame Chicken as a starter followed by chicken in Panko breadcrumbs on a brioche bun with chunky chips. Another lovely meal from start to finish. The restaurant was full and there were no tables available for anyone ‘Walking in’ without a reservation. If your a ‘couple’ and want a window seat, request Table 1 which is in the front right hand bay overlooking the harbour. A 10% Optional Service Charge is included on the bill, which you can amend if you so desire.

Having been to a few restaurants in St Ives, there are so many better options for food. But what really made this place stand out was the awful service. Oh and we paid extra for the terrible service with the included 'optional 10% service charge' that my partner was too embarrassed to ask to be removed. So yeah, awful service that we actually paid extra for... The seafood cafe was much nicer for anyone looking for somewhere nice.

Disgusting service! I went in to order myself and my partner fish and chips and was met by two very rude men asking where my mask was. When I advised I have an exemption, they demanded me to show an exemption card. I advised them I do not have to show them an exemption card as per government guidelines ‘Carrying an exemption card or badge is a personal choice and is not required by law’. They continued to act extremely rude so I left and spent my money at a much nicer establishment further down. These men need to educate themselves on the law before they demand people with medical conditions to show an exemption card that we are not required to do so. I won’t be going back here when I come to Cornwall again, on their poor customer service.

On arrival up the stairs we were greeted with hand sanitiser, as usual at the moment, and shown to our table in the window. The lady who served us was helpful with any questions and we enjoyed Monkfish, Plaice and Cod and some desserts. It was perfect for what we wanted and we will no doubt book again next year as we like the position overlooking the sea and harbour. The only shame was there was no Lobster Thermidor on that night.

We were looking for a cafe for lunch when we stumbled on this gem. I love seafood whilst my husband prefers seaside fish and chips. This restaurant proved to be perfect for both of us. I ordered two starters of cray fish tails and a side salad while my husband ordered lightly battered cod with chunky chips, mushy peas and a side order of bread and between us. The waitress brought me two small ramekins of crayfish tails and what looked like a small of salad. She then handed me a plate. I tipped the salad and the crayfish onto my plate and then the crayfish on top. "Wow! You got loads" the bloke on the table behind me exclaimed. I explained that I got the same as him and when he tipped the content of his ramekin onto his plate he told me that the size of the pot was deceiving. My husband had a short but thick piece of cod delivered to him just as he'd ordered it, thinly battered and accompanied by chunky chips servied in a mini frying basket and a pot of mushy peas. He said the cod melted in the mouth and the chips were exquisite. He also liked the fact that the peas were separated from the rest of the food. The bread and butter was extra thick and extremely fresh. Two pieces of this were more than enough and despite our efforts we could not finish it! We were more than happy with our choices but looking around we could see that the crab meat sandwiches, lobster and huge pan of oysters and muscles were very popular. They had a great selection for children and the build your own sundae with local ice cream and bottles of sweets was definitely a hit! We finished our meal with tea and coffee. The restaurant was full when we arrived and also full when we left. When we arrived We were served promptly and asked if we were happy with our food 5 minutes after being served .We we were made to feel welcome and not at all rushed. The food was of the finest quality and excellently cooked so leaving still hungry was never an option. We are both looking forward to our next visit already.

A SMALL place, in size only, limited further by the stringent covid restrictions and more than difficult to get a table... Yes, the food was exceptional and our comfortable table did not overlook the harbour but from the first instance, every member of the four staff, I dealt with were outstanding. I popped by the restaurant at 11am in the hope of getting a table for dinner that day. The only available table was at 6 pm. This could not work for us, so I decided to try to phone later ( remember that old fashioned contraption?) Whoever, (female, friendly) picked the phone up, could not have been more full of 'can do', personality and wit, if I was happy to have the worst table at 8.15 it was mine. Delighted, I bit her arm off. It was our last night in St Ives and we knew, we would be in for treat. Turned our to be a lovely table and everything was brilliant. Serving us were Emma and Sharon who were the bees knees. It's the personal connections that put the icing on even the tastiest cake. Thank you, Team Beach.

The food, we both had plaice was of a very high standard. We did not feel it was overpriced for what we had. A slight niggle is where we were placed, back from the widow but admittedly with good views. I had asked earlier what you had to do to get a window table and the answer was ‘book three months ago’. However the whole time we were there one widow table for two was vacant, the reason why we had unrestricted views. I wonder therefore if their table management could be improved,

We ate here last night. We were welcomed by a very friendly lady who was very efficient and helpful. They unfortunately had no crab or lobster which is what we booked hoping to have. Nevertheless, the food we did have was delicious. We decided to have scallops as a starter and would suggest 2 per person is needed. They arrive on a slate with salad and a little pot of sauce/butter of your choice. We both had one with garlic butter, then my other was Cajun, which I highly recommend and the other half had rosemary and anchovy. He did say he thought the Cajun one having tried mine was the best. They were cooked to perfection and would have been happy to have had more.Main course I choose mussels with chips. I couldn’t manage to finish the chips as there was really decent portion of muscles. The other half had lemon sole. You do get a choice of how your fish is cooked, pan fried, deep fried, grilled and also a choice of butters (they same as the choice we had for scallops) and also a choice of crust. My other half just had grilled and plain butter with chips. We both thought the food was excellent and lovely staff. Happy to recommend.

Visited st ives a couple of weeks ago when Cornwall was in glorious sunshine. Most restaurants were only accepting bookings with no walk in. I understand this was due to the covid situation. My wife asked if week could book for the evening and were told tables were fully booked . However Emma , a lovely lady said that a table at the back of the restaurant would be made available for us as long as we understood there was no view. Now at this point please realise this is a first floor establishment with bi folding doors overlooking St ives harbour, absolutely stunning !!! We accepted and booked a table for 20.30. We arrived 5 minutes early to be told that they had four no shows that evening and if we waited we could well get a table overlooking the harbour. Now this was great fir us but how selfish can people be. The catering and hospitality industry has taken a massive dip due to lock down. So they have to adhere to social distancing rules and operate on about 40% capacity . This is a great restaurant in a stunning location with great staff like Emma and Chloe, who were wonderful. Treat them with respect and if you are not going to fulfil your reservation have the common courtesy to pick up the phone and tell them . As they will then have the opportunity to accept someone else. The food and desserts were great and the servings superb. Nothing too much trouble . Those who didn’t turn up missed great food with beautiful ambience and stunning view. Shame on you I say ! However we benefited from your abysmal manners. We will be going again for certain . Highly recommended. Paul & Tara

We came twice for a meal while staying in st Ives and also we came last year and enjoyed the fish. Both times I had the plaice which was lovely served with new potatoes and lemon and thyme butter. The restaurant was very good regards social distancing with one way up the stairs and another way out so people are not getting to close their was hand sanitizer to use as you entered the restaurant. but none of the staff had masks or visors on which I think restaurants and cafes should have.As a previous review said the deserts need improving

Wonderful fresh fish, cooked well in a lovely restaurant with amazing views. Only disappointment was that they had sold out of Lobster before we had a chance to order! Not too disheartening though as the fish dishes we did have were delicious. We will come back on our next trip.If you want to visit though, book well in advance- it seems this place books up quickly!

We normally come here while on holiday as it's our favourite and still does not disappoint.Covid measures are in place with regard to a one way system, hand sanitiser and social distancing where possible but it's a small restaurant. Staff were not wearing face coverings and although this didn't necessarily bother us it can put others off.Service was quick, staff friendly and food arrived promptly after being ordered and was of exceptional quality as always.Really can't recommend this place enough if you like your seafood but the desserts could do with a bit of diversity.

I stood in a queue of 4 customers outside the fish and chip shop (takeaway) and I couldn’t believe that we were stood there for 20 minutes - I just needed to order a regular chips! The staff seemed like they were on their training day or something and were lethargic and sloth like slow :-( When I Finally was served, I expressed my dissatisfaction to the Middle Aged lady with bobbed dark hair - I wasn’t rude and didn’t use offensive language - I simply told her that I couldn’t understand why the service was so slow. She immediately got her back up, reminded me I had to wear a mask which I accepted and quickly put on and then said she didn’t know if she wanted to serve me now! Wow, just wow... if you can’t take constructive criticism from a woman who is 8 months pregnant queueing for an unnecessary time then you shouldn’t be in the food industry. The gentleman in front of me was exactly the same and as he paid said to me that they haven’t even got his food cooked and he had to wait for his chips :( the lady before that they had double charged by accident and she was appalled outside telling the rest of the queue what a nightmare it all was - I just don’t get it? It wasn’t even busy and they just could not cope - nightmare. I asked if the chips were ready or raw or if I needed to wait and the lady replied that her card machine was broken - this was definitely done in spite and she purposely smiled as she told me. I responded in despair and told her that it was obvious she had tactically lied about the card machine and she told me I was being filmed! I could understand if I was loud, swearing and being rude to her but I wasn’t. What vile customer service! If I was the owner of this establishment I would retrain my staff as they are not representing the company in the best light!

Booked a table in advance of our stay due to popularity. Food was faultless, absolutely delicious. Was a little miffed with the service charge added to the bill with no prior knowledge. But other than that, no other gripe and would recommend.

The Beach is a lovely seafront restaurant looking over the very romantic St Yves harbour. You definitely want to bring your date here, to enjoy the great view, the cosy atmosphere and the great fish straight from the fish bar. They have a great selection of tempuras, which I recommend to try. See in pics the sharing platter with battered kings prawns, breaded mackerel goujons and spiced squid dips. Highly recommend also the Beach Fish Supper with battered goujons, king prawns with chips salad and tartare sauce. They not only offer great tempuras, though. Do cast your eyes at the iced fish bar and see what great soft fillets they have on the day. I was lucky that the catch of the day was monkfish! The staff is very kind and friendly and this contributed to make a dinner here a lovely experience.

Had take away fish and chips, wanted gluten free, the didn’t have it but said batter is quite light anyway, so I decided to go for it. It was the best fish I’ve tasted, the batter was so light and tasty. The chips were amazing, couldn’t stop eating even though full. Got to try this place!!

We stopped by this restaurant after spending a lovely day walking around St Ives which was really nice without the crowds of tourists!! There are stairs to access the restaurant from the rear or the sea front. Booking in peak seasons a must. The food was perfect, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. We definitely recommed the fish it us simply delicous. The service was excellent all the way through our meal. There was an incident involving a drink being knocked over but the server dealt with this perfectly no fuss, apologised and without us causing any fuss at all a discount on the bill and complimentary drinks given which was amazing service. We will definitely be back!!!

There was a sign outside saying children welcome but they were reluctant to let us bring the pram in. I wouldn’t leave it outside so a compromise was found as we left it inside, but at the entrance. I enjoyed my salmon even though it wasn’t as cooked thorough as I’d liked. That is my fault though as I didn’t specify when I ordered. That being said, they didn’t ask either. The menu is quite good for choice as you first choose your fish, then you can add a butter or topping and then a side. There is loads of choice. The restaurant has lovely views over the harbour. We were sitting at the back, but we could still see as the windows are huge.

Not the best fish and chips we’ve had, but not the worst. The haddock was good but the batter on the cod was too thin, and the cod was not the best.

Not the first time I have been here but this time was truly dreadful. Three of us ordered the halloumi burger served with coleslaw, rocket and sweet chilli - to be warned by the waitress that it wasn’t actually a HALLOUMI burger - as in grilled halloumi on a bun - but a veggie burger which had bits of halloumi in it. I was grateful for the heads up. What I wasn’t prepared for was a lukewarm unimpressive bland prefab veggie burger in a bun sitting on an otherwise bare plate. The coleslaw, rocket and sweet chilli were all garnishes on the burger. There wasn’t so much as a sprig of parsley adorning this large plate with a rather small burger and bun on it. All for £11. Seriously. Never ever again. Sorry. You have lost a customer forever. And got yourself some bad word of mouth. All because you are too cheap to describe your food for what it is and to put a proper meal on your plates. Ridiculous. You know it is bad when the waitress is embarrassed.

Lovely location and great service but the food was a little on the average side. This year’s theme was pizza and Greek. I opted for the chicken and the lamb and beef souvlaki. Both were tasted but came drenched in a Greek dressing, which was cold and made the souvlaki cold. The tzatziki was tasty and salad fresh. My husband’s pizza was good but not spectacular. We were there on one of their last days of service, but everyone was still as attentive as ever. Wish them well for next year.
