Lovely cafe/restaurant, the staff were wonderful and couldn’t do enough for us. They made a special plate up for me as I have food restrictions and were very kind and great fun. Love this place and can’t recommend it highly enough, the food is truly delicious. Great coffee too, we will be back as soon as possible.

Was really pleased we chose the baytree kitchens. My husband had the seafood chowder I had the ploughman's both off the specials menu. My husbands chowder was full of seafood and fish with fresh bread it was only £10. He didn't want it to end. My ploughman's was really good quality ham and cheese with fresh bread that was only £9. The drinks are really reasonable as well If we lived nearer we would be regulars here All the food tha was coming out you could tell it was freshly prepared.

Visited this cafe in Hawes with my family on 04/06/22 Poor welcome. No effort made to make us feel welcome. I asked for a menu card and waitress insisted I read one on the wall. Little variety on the menu which which took rather long to arrive and was tasteless. We ordered drinks but the waitress said she had to serve someone else and promptly forgot to get our drinks order. Definitely will not be returning.

Situated in the centre of the village, this small unassuming cafe is the type of place you want to find on a cold February lunchtime. The menu is huge, it really is, with every kind of cafe food you could wish for. I went for the blue cheese and cauliflower soup. It arrived in short order, steaming hot and thick enough to stand your spoon in. Delicious. The young lady who served us was spot-on, efficient, smiley and dynamic. Prices are reasonable (sodas are not cheap) for the quality of food served. Go support ‘em and enjoy their hospitality.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon in January. The cafe seemed reasonably busy but there were tables available. However, the reception was extremely unfriendly and bordering on rude. We were totally ignored and after assuming that we would be served (or at least acknowledge within the next few minutes) we waited. And waited. And waited. It was obvious that the waitress had spotted us but still no service. After far longer than we should have allowed we left and went to Cafe Curva instead (who were amazing). Seriously, dont bother!

Very disappointing. Panini was too tough to cut - either stale or over baked. The filling was no better; small pieces of chicken cooked to the point of being inedible. I was given the choice of salad or crisps and got a large helping of average tasting crisps. What is wrong with a small portion of salad and a few crisps? I was not the only person in the cafe having trouble cutting through the panini. It was the most disappointing meal I have eaten in a very long while, almost inedible. The cafe is not cheap and there are plenty better places to eat in Hawes.

We’ve visited this establishment before & enjoyed our most recent visit too. Looking for a light snack as the pubs in Hawes generally don’t serve food between 2:30/3-5:30/6 we sat outside with our pooch. We ordered a hot beef, onion & gravy sandwich & a croc monsieur both came with crisps which were delicious. The sandwiches were great too, reasonable prices & good service. The ham in my sandwich was really tasty. Another good experience - thank you.

We happenend upon this cafe/restaurant when we got lost on the way home from our holidays! And what a find! We walked in around 4.30 for tea and sandwiches. I had the most wonderful Tuna and Wensleydale toasted sandwich with a gorgeous side salad with strawberries, grapes. It was delicious! Super tea, the family had shortbread and scones, and my daughter (who is 11) had the 'toddlers nibble plate' which consisted of bread stick, sliced fruit and different cheeses, truely yummy. I visited this cafe today. Ordered a latte and cake. The coffee tasted like cheap instant or something that had sat in a jug for too long. I was prepared to let that pass. I took a fork full of the Victoria sandwich cake I ordered. It was clearly dry bordering on stale. A person, I presume may have been the owner walked past my table, so I discretely mentioned that the cake was dry. Whereupon, with a glare and without a word she grabbed it off my table and slung it towards the waitress, who looked acutely embarrassed. And with her back to me marched into the kitchen. The waitress came up to my table not knowing quite what to do or say, and said that I didn't have to pay for the cake. I decided to leave, and leave the coffee too. I asked her to let her manager know how rudely I had been treated. She was very sympathetic and said she wasn't going to charge me for the coffee either. We live locally and we will never use this cafe again, and will ensure that I pass on my disgust to everyone I know. I cannot think of any time that I have been subjected to worse customer care. I suggest if you want to experience a rude, ignorant manner and poor food, you try this place.

Not busy on arrival (no coach party) and no acknowledgement from waitress during the 15 minute wait for order to be taken, a simple 'hello I'll be with you shortly' takes seconds. Arrived around 12.20 not greeted so found our own table, ignored by staff for around fifteen minutes then after taking orders from people who arrived after us! Our time arrived we were now very hungry as we had read the menus back to front several times and changed our menu choices several times. The food and drink now ordered we sat in anticipation of our choices, 10 minutes 20 minutes after twenty five minutes of seeing very little activity and no explanation as to if and when luncheon would arrive we sadly gave up and left! Salads and cold drinks is what we waited for and with only three other tables occupied, it stretched our patience to far. Shame as the menu read well with a great variety of homemade soups on the special boards.

We were slightly disappointed by this place - the food was very basic - we were expecting local ingredients but it felt low quality. The salad that came with my sandwich seemed to have every salad ingredient thrown in so it didn't really go together - cucumber, tomato, grapes, beetroot! And the bread used to make the sandwiches felt like supermarket bought bread. Service was ok but I wouldn't say the staff were very welcoming. So the food was edible and nothing particularly wrong with it - but just not what we were hoping...

Once upon a time, The Golden Lion was a vibrant lively pub. Since the new owners took over a few years ago, things have gone steadily down hill. The cosy comfortable seating has been ripped out. Staff appear to come and go quickly. They are trying to sell food, but rarely does the menu appear outside the pub. I am a fan of real ale. This pub does sell it, but no one appears to be able to look after it. I have on three recent occasions bought a pint, only to find on all three occasions , the ale had gone off , and tasted and smelled strongly of vinegar. The bar staff appear to be unaware of this, despite one of them being a long serving member of staff. I would not recommend this pub.

Scrambled eggs on toast for me £5.25..feeling very peckish I looked forward to my meal arriving..I certainly was not expecting the rubbery, tasteless and inedible mess that was placed in front of me..I concluded that the egg had not even been mixed properly as there were lumps of hard egg yolk in evidence, also the cook ( I use the term very loosely) had been nowhere near the mixing bowl with either milk/cream, butter or seasoning. I ate the toast.Having called the waitress over to explain the problem, she said there would be no charge. I was charged for the toast !!! My two friends were not impressed with their bacon sandwiches either due to a meagre amount of said bacon. Won't be going back.

Warm and friendly greeting in this lovely cafe. Between us we had the homemade soup and panini with salad. Our friend had the soup which looked delicious and apparently tasted just wonderful. The rest of us had the panini special and salad. Panini was great tasting (their own sausage) and the salad was exceptional. Highly recommend and will go back on our next visit.

We stopped here for lunch. All the food was good but the side salads were exceptional- no unwanted dressing or raw onion (hoorah) but lots of extras including freshly podded peas, pineapple and lambs leaf lettuce!

Always try to judge cafes by the quality of their scones and these were great and came in lemon, fruit and cheese varieties. We opted for fruit with jam and cream which was naughty but very nice. Very busy and quite cosy but an enjoyable Americano whilst doing our crossword. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and clean loos!

Really nice relaxed friendly feel and a delicious hot breakfast. I've been here for tea and cake previously as well, and the whole experience is good.

Enjoyed a very nicely served, lovely sandwich lunch. Only one young lady serving but she was extremely pleasant and we did not have to wait too long even though she was very busy.

We stayed in Hawes for a week and went on plenty of walks. After our first visit, hubby made sure he had a snack most times after a walk. He loved the place. No doubt will be paying a visit again next time we are in Hawes.

Came to Hawes as part of a drive around the Dales and stopped here for brunch. We ordered coffee, scone and toast and jam. The food was fine but the coffee was not the best. Perhaps a poor quality coffee was used?It was a warm sunny day, Hawes was packed with day trippers and weekenders in for the Bank Holiday weekend and yet there was only one girl serving upwards of 10 tables. We certainly don't mind waiting and the cafe's motto is that they don't do fast food but good food as fast as they can - nothing wrong with that but surely 2 waiting staff is a must in a packed cafe on a Bank Holiday weekend.

We enjoyed a nice cuppa en route to Castle Bolton as part of our group's Coast to Coast cycle challenge. As well as our drinks we enjoyed lovely warm scones, carrot cake and tasty pea and ham soup amongst us. They were kind enough to allow us to store our bikes too. Well worth a visit.

Small café with a extensive menu. I had welsh rarebit with salad and what a salad, so many unusual additions but it worked. Friendly staff and quick service. Well done.

The location is simply fabulous. At the top of Swaledale with views all around. Set up for walkers - so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Mixing with fellow walkers meant a very sociable stay. Room was good size and comfortable. Restaurant bar and lounge were of high quality and brought a high enjoyable stay. Matt and Dave are great hosts. Thoroughly recommended.

No beer on draught, no food available. The only drink on tap was from yorkshire water. Don't know how the landlord makes a living, rumour is he has funds hidden in a barrel of Wensleydale Gold.

We visited 20th October 2024 for a meal for our sons birthday. We always go for special occassions however the meals were not as good as normal . Myself and daughter In law chose the bottomless Chinese my Husband and son chose trio parmos and my other son chose the Barney rubble mixed grill . Our table was booked for 6.30 we sat for 20 minutes and I had to ask Bar staff if we were to place our order at the bar to which she said I will come to your table . Long story short we waited and waited when the food finally arrived the trio parmos were extreamly dry and very hard unedible really . Very dissapointing experence .
