Really lovely little cafe. The menu was very varied with plenty for the veggies and meat eaters among us. The service was great, the waitress was very chatty and spoilt our pup with a sausage. Food was delicious and all for a reasonable price. The canal side location is lovely too.

Not a great experience, which I will make clear was not the fault of the waitress who served us. I ordered something from the menu that was unavailable when asked if I wanted to order an alternative and said I didn't want to place a food order. We waited over 40 minutes for the food to come out which it didn't, eventually my husband went into to pay for the drinks we'd consumed. He asked what had happened to his order to be told that it had been cancelled. The waitress who had served us, then called over and said only my order was to be cancelled only. I hope to God this wasn't spite by the supervisor, it certainly has that sort of whiff to it. I don't think I was sharp, disappointed undoubtedly, but if I was then I wholeheartedly apologize to the waitress. The supervisor should not have cancelled the whole order and then just leave us sitting there. For you information, we don't get a great deal of time just to do something as simple as 'go for a coffee'. I'm pretty laid back but you really spoiled his afternoon, thank you.

Visited the Baytree 20/07/2024. We have visited many times in the past and always found it to be good. Unfortunately this was not the case on this visit. After waiting for a considerable time to have our order taken, we then had a breakfast and breakfast roll come out and one roll did not. It was a good ten minutes before the second breakfast roll came out. Not the usual service and not the normal standard of food. Will not be visiting again in a hurry.

Thank you to Gemma and staff for organising an amazing retirement party for 40 people this evening. The buffet food was delicious and gluten free. Gemma had also decorated the cafe for me.

Another fabulous experience, great service and our food was superb and reasonably priced. We took advantage of the 20% off breakfast offer on Tuesday which made it even better value. Eggs Benedict and the Full English arrived quickly, well presented and piping hot!

Popped in for lunch on Saturday, we didn’t book and managed to grab the last unreserved table. It was extremely busy, service was quick and efficient as ever. We had been told of a wait on food, however it came far quicker and was superb! Would definitely recommend booking a table, especially over lunch. It’s probably been 2/3 months since we last visited, and I dare say it’s even better now than it was before… and we loved it then! A true gem and 110% consistently the best in town! We tried to book in for Mother’s Day, but unfortunately they are fully booked, they are operating a waitlist though which I thought was a great touch. Very much looking forward to visiting again!

Called in to have lunch and was warmly greeted. Picked a table overlooking the canal. They have an extensive lunch menu, and welcome dogs. We had a pot of tea, and a Ploughman's grazing board and Jacket Potatoe with Chilli. The portions were large and flavoursome. The Ploughman's was expensive but had so much on it: cheese, egg, ham, bread a quality pickle, coelslaw etc. The food came with lovely fresh quality salad. My jacket potato was great, the chilli clearly homemade and tasty. (a little watery- but tasty). Overall we were very impressed with the place - it looked nice the food was excellent and the service warm and friendly. Only point for development - perhaps check in mid meal to see if we had everything we needed as we would have ordered more drinks. We did have a little wait - because the food was being made freshly, again not a worry, but perhaps just let the customer know it is on its way. A lovely find. Quality food.

This has slowly become one of my favourite places for a nice lunch. I love sitting outside and watching the canal boats go through. When the sun is out it’s a real sun trap and a lovely vibe. Only thing missing is a little background music which would just top off the experience. I find inside a little cramped but it has never put me off eating here. Food is lovely, staff friendly and attentive and just overall a lovely experience

I would definitely recommend the baytree, I came for lunch with some friends the food was amazing. I had the BBQ chicken panini and fries it was very tasty. The staff are so friendly and are very helpful and so kind they really can't do enough for you. If you get chance give them a visit you will not be disappointed. I have also ordered delivery on just eat the food was still hot and great also on time delivered by a lovely driver!

Superb Fathers Day lunch! Called in on the off chance and was able to have their Sunday Lunch. Perfection, the pork in particular was to die for, beautifully cooked, well presented and for the price charged, excellent value for money.

Popped in after looking at the place in Facebook posts. Chose to come here as on the menu it said pancakes but when arrived they didn’t do them. So the menu online and Facebook needs to be updated. We both had brioche one with bacon the other with fruit. Was nice and tasty piping hot to. Husband had full English and he really enjoyed it

It was the special celebration of a Pearl wedding annivesary but serious illness and vulnerability made it impossible for the couple to dine out. So, reliant on a delivery service of food, reviews pointed to BAYTREE! However, the Just Eat delivery wasn't quite right for our requirements, especially as I was organising all this from Manchester! However, with BAYTREE's great kindness, wonderful customer service and immense trust, I was able to place the celebratory order for lunch and supper, feeling well assured all would be perfect! And it was! The delivery was kindly brought by the owner who was absolutely lovely and so very helpful. The food [ in environmentally friendly brown paper boxes, foil wrapped and paper bags] was still hot and looked amazing and so good and was absolutely delicious! We ordered fishcakes and scampi [ feast of a lunch] and baguettes for supper [ to die for!]. BAYTREE is a bistro with a human heart of kindness, excellent customer service and great cuisine! Delighted with our unforgettable dining experience, memories of a very happy Pearl wedding celebration made possible. We thank you all at BAYTREE!

Took the family here for lunch today after previous fantastic visits, today was no different! We didn’t book, but as the weather was nice we were able to get a table inside - we were there for a good couple of hours and a table outside wasn’t free at all during that time, so definitely worth booking! Food was great, and the service was very attentive despite being busy!

Stumbled over this place looking for somewhere to have breakfast Sunday morning. Opted for full breakfast and pot of tea for 2 and was not disappointed. Generous plateful and big pot of tea. Prompt service and helpful staff.

When I was thinking about a venue for my husbands 40th meal I must admit initially The Baytree did not come to mind. Though after seeing some recent posts in Facebook, I enquired about hosting a small intimate dinner for around 30 people. Danny took my enquiry, listened to exactly what I wanted and delivered. I felt utterly at ease leaving it in his hands. The price were very reasonable and with a small deposit we were booked in. I liaised with Danny a few times over the months and he was always attentive and quick to reply and accommodate my requests. He developed a bespoke menu with a number of choices to suit all tastes. On the day we spoke a few times. The room was set up perfectly to provide a lovely ambience for our family meal. The staff were so professional, polite, warm and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was delicious, great portion sizes, piping hot and delicious. We were able to enjoy a wonderful evening with our closest family and everyone commented how perfect the venue was for the occasion. We brought our dog Maxwell who is so much part of the family and he was well and truly spoilt. The Baytree is such a wonderful dog friendly restaurant in an ideal location. I would highly recommend it as a venue for any occasion. Thank you so much Danny and team for making my husbands 40th meal a night to remember. We will definitely be returning with Maxwell soon.

Fantastic roast! The best I have in years, I live in London and honestly would pay the train fare again, just for the cauliflower cheese. The staff were so welcoming and honestly I couldn't believe the cost. I think they undercharged for their services.

We visited the Baytree for afternoon tea yesterday. The food was absolutely delicious and such amazing value for money. We couldn’t eat everything so ended up bringing loads home with us! Service was fabulous too, all staff were lovely and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely return - both for afternoon tea and to try other items on the menu. All of the food served to other customers looked beautiful! Point to note - the car park outside the Baytree is pay and display. We aren’t from Retford and didn’t realise this - until we left the restaurant and found we had a parking ticket (along with 3 other cars that were also parked straight outside). The councils signage for this is very poor.

I had been poorly for a few months and my hubby said he’d treat me to lunch to cheer me up. He was working so we went during his lunch break. My choice as I had visited with a friend previously which was lovely. We hadn’t booked but there were tables available when we got there. We ordered drinks and food, the drinks were served pretty quickly. We realised after about 30 minutes of ordering that there were still about 3 other parties that were there before us who still hadn’t had their food served. After 40 minutes and still other ppl waiting we decided to pay for our drinks and leave as hubby had to get back to work. The staff apologised and gave us our drinks for free which was nice but we were starving so ended up nipping to greggs for a sausage roll lol Such a shame as I had ordered and was looking forward to the Charcuterie board. Hubby did tell me after that the table edges were ‘gunky’ like things had been spilled but only the top cleaned. Also some cobwebs could do with cleaning.

We’ve been coming for years and thought we’d pop in for lunch. The food was ok but the wait time for a sandwich was far too long when considering how many customers were in at the same time. However, the off putting factor- it was absolutely freezing- we know times are tricky but it felt warmer outside than it actually was inside. One thing we noticed was the couple next to us who also ordered 2 paninis, had been waiting a whole HOUR! They then decided to cancel and leave after witnessing a regular customer that came in after us and got her food straight away! This was not acceptable! All we asked for was a TOASTED SANDWICH! Therefore, we decided to cancel and leave as well! The kitchen staff were not organised at all and it made the waitresses look bad as well. As a result we were very disappointed with the service and have decided not to return again!
