The Bay Coffee & Cake Company in Torbay

We visited The Bay Coffee Company during a February half term holiday. We popped in as a family for coffee and cake! This is the second time we’ve visited in the last 12 months. It’s always popular/busy, cakes were lovely and staff friendly. There’s only one toilet at the back of the cafe and there was urine all on the floor when we arrived. Doesn’t really reflect the cafe (more the people that use it) so just put some tissue down and used the facilities! Would go back!

We visited for lunch and each had a drink and panini. The paninis were toasted but the cheese still wasn't melted. They were also a bit expensive for what you got - no side salad or crisps. We were given a pot with sauce sachets, but when we opened a English mustard it was a funny colour and the incorrect consistency. I probably wouldn't return here for lunch again.

We had a few lovely 😍 coffees ☕️ and lite lunch 😋 here. Over the 10 days, we were in Brixham. Stuff is friendly and helpful. Food is 100 % love the sitting outside on the harbour.

I have given this establishment a 3 star rating because it charged me 30p for a couple of extra teabags...30p! Disgraceful most places we visit are happy to let you have them for free. My husband usually carries extra but today he forgot them, I'm sure he won't do that again!

Wonderful coffee and a very tasty panini. The cafe is well set out and the staff are efficient and friendly. Lots of lovely cakes, too!

Great vibe! Great coffee! What more would you want? A ketchup sachet that opens more easily - maybe - but I jest! A super place to enjoy a coffee and brunch, where John and his staff always make you extremely welcome. Brixham’s finest!

We recently stayed in the flat above and went downstairs for a coffee while our kids were crabbing in the harbour opposite. Exceptionally friendly and a great selection of coffee and cakes. Looking forwards to next year.

Popped in for a coffee and a snack, sat there watching a waitress clean about 6 tables with the same cloth without cleaning the cloth once. She then went behind the counter to serve without washing her hands first.

I called into The Bay Coffee Co on Monday 7th August having been away on holiday for two weeks and missing the wonderful cappuccino John and the staff provide.In the cake cabinet were these beauties made by Heather and I could not resist buying two. They tasted every bit as good as they look. Heather is very talented.The Bay Coffee Co is always welcoming, the staff are friendly and efficient.It is my haven when I need a quiet coffee and a friendly face.

Popped in today for a coffee. Very friendly and efficient staff and a cosy atmosphere. Had a huge slice of gorgeous carrot cake. There was plenty of choice of cakes and it is so refreshing having such a selection of home baking.Will be eating and drinking there regularly and would certainly recommend a visit.

I went here with my daughter in law and baby grandson today. What a lovely cafe this is! We had tea and a ginger and date flapjack which we wanted to share between the two of us.. It came on the side of our tea cut into 4 squares each - a lovely touch which made it feel extra special, plus it tasted sublime (I am a flapjack addict)! The cafe also does coffee which a proper barista coffee machine (sorry I am no coffee expert, but could tell my hubby would love it). The owner is very friendly and welcoming. This is a chic, stylish and modern cafe, I would highly recommend it and will definitely revisit soon.

We ordered 3 cakes a sausage roll and 4 drinks , the service was fantastic , the choice of cakes was amazing it took us ages to decide !!! There is gluten free options as well .. I had a hot chocolate which was one of the best i have ever had .. The decor was nice and everywhere looked clean .. will definatly return the next time we come here on holiday x

We went here on a rainy 2nd Nov 2015, after reading other reviews... eyes as big as our bellies we ordered homity pie, sausage roll, cakes & coffee ...and demolished the lot! All v. tasty, would defy recommend, and we intend to revisit during our time here this week. Friendly, patient staff (ample choice so we floundered abit). Go n visit!

Top quality coffee on offer, plus a good range of cakes and savouries. I see that recent reviewers commented on the lack of gluten-free cakes. The proprietor has clearly addressed this because there was a gluten-free range available.

I went into here with my friend for a coffee the Guy in there made us feel very welcome and his coffee is amazing i also loved the comfy seats.

We just wanted a coffee - gone are the days when you could simply order just a coffee! There is SO much choice here; we enjoyed our two different coffees (there were 2 of us!). Located at a four-way junction which has traffic lights, it is visible and inviting. Staff were very helpful, friendly and humorous. Decent toilets on the first floor. Currently sitting in The Bay Coffee Company and so impressed I felt the need to write a review straight away. Fantastic cake, not too expensive and good coffee equivalent of Starbucks. Best of all it is family friendly. Toys are available at the rear and they have a good, clean family size toilet and baby changing facilities. Highly recommended as an afternoon treat.

Visited October 8th. Chocolate brownie as good as I have had anywhere, ginger and date flapjack also very good. Reasonable pricing. Can't go wrong really!

Went here two or three times during family holiday. I drink coffee a lot. Probably to much if i'm honest. So i can appreciate a good well made mug off coffee. When you're in a large city it is fairly easy to find a nice coffee outlet but not so in small towns and the like. Even less so in tourist areas like Brixham town. But this guy knows how to make coffee as good as any in the city. Cakes were very nice too!

I must admit I wasn't really expecting to find decent coffee in Brixham, and yet here I am drinking an excellent Americano served to me by a man with a trendy beard. What more could you ask for?

I was expecting more after all the hype, so was slightly disappointed. Coffee was so-so. My cappachino was well presented but not hot. Wife's raspberry and white chocolate was gorgeous but my fudge cake was dry on the edges. Maybe I've been spoilt after the other establishments we've visited this week.

A lovely little cafe with really helpful staff (who even sent us down the road to another place that did gluten free) and a great feel good atmosphere! On entry the cakes look mouth watering, however we were let down by no gluten free options at all(!!) and no cream tea on offer.

We decided to visit this coffee shop as it was promoted as being 'dog friendly'.We weren't disappointed! The guy working today was very friendly and made us all very welcome. A great tasting coffee expertly made, with a nice choice of cakes. The only thing I could think of that would make it SIX stars (!) would be to have at least one gluten free option for a cake. Will definitely be back when next in this part of the world.

We visit Brixham regularly and have done for several years. There are a few Bay Coffee shops in BrIxham but this small one at 4 Bolton Street, in our opinion, is the best. The coffee is stupendous (best in Brixham, possibly Devon) and the homemade cakes amazingly delicious - a marriage made in heaven. We also took a ham and cheese croissant away to eat later and this was great too. This shop is around the corner at the end of the main street and worth seeking out to enjoy a cup of fabulous coffee and a snack away from the general hubbub of the town. Try it and see if you agree. Please note this shop is not open on Sunday.

Dan the man and his amazing coffee. Come here on average 4 times a week. The best coffee in Brixham/Torbay.COME SEE FOR YOURSELF!!!

I'm not sure words can do justice to the cakes that are made here. They are just fantastic, full of flavour and the perfect texture. You can tell that they are home made, not in a bad way, but in that they don't have the clinical, mass produced perfection of other shops. The coffee is crafted, in the true sense of the word, which produces a fantastic result in taste and texture (coffee with texture!? Trust me, it exists!). If I could, I'd happily overdose on caffeine here! To top it off, like one of the brilliant lattes you can have here, the customer service is excellent. The owner is friendly and chatty and shows care for his business and customers. Overall: 11/10 would recommend.

Visited here at the weekend whilst staying with friends , they said it was a pretty damn fine coffee and they weren't wrong. The young lady who served us was very polite and dealt with a table of six order with no trouble at all ( fresh coffee as you know requires a little patience!) 10/10 maidNow.. The cakesWow!I had the raspberry flapjack and it was awesome !Someone definitely knows what they're doing on the baking side of things Overall, a totally enjoyable experience!!Loved it

We had planned to come here when we arrived as it was the highest rated place in the area and it did not disappoint. We ended up going pretty much every day. Dan is a really nice guy and allowed us to bring in the dog we had with us and provided water and bowl. We ended up eating a great selection of the cakes on offer and none of them disappointed. The brownie was especially good offering and we ended up taking some home most days to eat in the evening as well. Dan even went as far as to make up a request for one of the group as he wanted a custard based dessert and true to his word one was made for the following day. I am sure he will be upset that we are not locals as we ended up spending a lot of time in here. Be sure to check it out if you are in the area, you will not leave disappointed and make sure to take a photo to get yourself up on the wall of fame :)

Wow! It's not often I am speechless but this place was fantastic. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, customer service was excellent. The food and drinks myself and my family purchased were outstanding, out of this world flavours. Wonderful little place tucked away for that perfect relaxed seaside feel.

Have used this coffee shop many times when in Brixham & it compare favourably with most of the others. Great coffee with a personal touch from the owner, cakes are to die for unfortunately!! We also tried the coffee shop/ice cream parlour next to Prince William: this was also very good: I really liked the tea making facility for fruit & green teas best green tea I've had!! The owner really does know how to treat his customers.

Wonderful coffee made by a barista who cares greatly about how he makes his coffee, and his tray bake cakes are not just the best in town but the best in the bay. I have been coming to Bay Coffee & Cake Co since it opened 2 years ago and have been back for a beautifully made cappuccino every work day morning since with regular tray bake treats for mid morning tea. I love this place and would love for everyone who goes to costa to pop in and try the coffee (and cake) at least once.

Quite simply the best flat white in Devon! And the ham & cheese toasty in Turkish flatbread was absolutely amazing... Don't miss out on the best independent artisan coffee shop in Brixham.

Really pleased to have found this place - they have 3 in Brixham with 2 right in the harbour. The coffe was really great and we had a fantastic lemon meringue pie which we were told were all homemade. The children all had an ice cream which they were very pleased with and there were lots of books and toys to keep them entertained. The staff were lovely and chatty. Great to find somewhere with coffee of this quality that is not the usual Starbucks or Costa. Definately heading back for cake and coffee next time In Brixham.

My wife and I sought this place out to take a mid afternoon drink and a snack. Sat in the window and basked in the early spring sun. Decaf tea available (the wife sorted) and the large cup of coffee tasted really good. Sausage roll and pasty - slightly soggy after microwave to heat up - tasted very good. Service was attentive and polite - good news! Friendly place to pop in for a snack during the day - nice one!

Called in here for a pie and a drink. Very tempting array of home made pies and cakes. Tries a hominy pie which I'd never heard of before which was ace, potatoes, garlic and cheese. Well worth a try.

Well this place does the best cake I have ever had in an establishment of this type. My boyfriend and I were amazed and considering he is a pastry chef that's pretty hard to do! I wish it had been busy as that helps improve the atmosphere but that's probably a reflection of the time of day we went and most people would be on the school run! The background music was alternative but tasteful and the comfy seats made me want to stay longer! The pricing is good, and much cheaper than costa for home made and better quality. My tea was nice and my boyfriends iced vanilla frappe according to his reaction and not letting me try it it must have been incredible! Also really loved the glass jar style mug that it was served in! So basically I can't wait to go back!

Visited this cafe last week with my mum for lunch. We had soup of the day which was probably the best soup i've ever had! my mum asked for some pepper and the owner apologised as he didn't have any but then shot out to buy some from the shop up the road. That's what I call customer service! Absolutely lovely little place - excellent value for money with some gorgeous cakes as well. Would recommend without hesitation!!

This is by a million miles the best coffee in Brixham (most probably, in fact definitely in Torbay) so come see Dan the man with the big beard and get a coffee, lunch or homemade cakes.

I've always struggled to find a coffee shop that served the right product the right way and at the right price but The Bay Coffee & Cake Company ticks every box!Friendly polite staff, a welcoming atmosphere and the best hot chocolate in the bay. Now I won't go anywhere else!

If you are a Brixham local, or on your holidays...we highly recommend 'The Bay Coffee and Cake Company'. Dan is the most friendly and very cool cafe owner we have ever met...he delivered our cappuccino's with style, and with a chocolate beard on top! Amazing! My boyfriend has a beard, so this really made our day. We had the most amazing bacon roll we have ever had. We tried to make it ourselves at home, the way Dan made it, but it wasn't the same, so now we have to go back there all the time...we will have to find out his secret. We were actually vegetarians before we went into this cafe..... ;)

Had a drink and a vanilla slice as our halfway stop on a cycle run between Torquay and Brixham and back. They had a wide range of home-made cakes, biscuits, pasties and pies on offer and it took a while to choose (was very tempted by the Hommity pies). The vanilla slice was lovely and if the rest of their offerings are as good this is a terrific find of a cafe in Brixham. The value was really good too.

This is a great place to visit for a wonderful hot drink and a slice of cake or a pie. It's not a very big, but well worth the wait for a table. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Make sure you have room to try their cakes.

I'm a regular to the bay coffee and cake in brixham and you cannot get a better cup of coffee in Torbay! I work across Torbay and have experienced most of the coffee shops locally and without a doubt the bay coffee and cake company by far surpass all the others! You can keep your big chains of coffee shop any day! The owner goes the extra mile to make the best flat white!

This is a great little coffee shop to go too with some amazing cakes not the biggest choice but what there is on offer are large and taste great.Great tea and coffee with lot's of choice .So if you are looking for a rest pop in and enjoy

Perhaps we went at a bad time, as the other reviews seem at odds with my experience, but when I went they had so few cakes to choose from we decided to get a take-away coffee and pop into the Strand Bakery around the corner for our cakes. The cakes from the Strand looked better than they tasted though, so this wasn't the best idea.Coffee was great.

Surprisingly chic and a refreshing break away from cafes and restaurants touting for tourists. Relaxed atmosphere and great decor make up fro the fact it's not in the prime 'bay view' area. A must for coffee lovers, it's the real deal. Cakes look fab, but I've yet to sample those! Next time!

Wary of the rash of 'average' coffee shops cashing-in on the current craze, we turned to Trip Advisor for a recommendation and found this place. It was at the far end of town from the bustling harbour, but Brixham isn't a big place so it seemed worth the short walk and we weren't disappointed. It's only a small cafe and from the outside looks like it's going to be very expensive but we headed in anyway and ordered latte's plus cold drinks for the kids, accompanied by coffee and walnut cake and chocolate brownies. The owner is clearly passionate about his coffee and after a short wait were served one of the best latte's that I've ever had. Beautifully presented, hot and creamy and the perfect accompaniment for the huge slab of home made cake. Absolutely gorgeous and made even better when we received the bill and had double-check to make sure he hadn't made a mistake - great value and cheaper than the big coffee chains.

Standing out from from the crowd can't be easy for a coffee shop but the proprietor of the Bay Coffee & Cake at Bolton Cross has done just that with a selection of the best coffees we've had in town, and an extensive range of mouth-watering sweet and savoury accompaniments - astonishingly, all baked on the premises by the man himself. A warm welcome is assured from Dan - very comfortable, no pressure seating. If you can take your eyes off the cakes - chose to sit in the window and watch Brixham pass by - and those unfortunate enough to not to realise what they're missing! I recommend either a piccolo latte, cortado or macchiato - laced with sugar water (never seen that before) - and add a sausage roll to die for! This guy really know his coffee - you'll see.

It was pouring with rain and we wanted to get out of the wet and we came across this remarkable cafe. It was the perfect place for an elevense cup of good coffee just how I like my Americano and a catch up with family we were visiting in Brixham. The chap behind the counter was so friendly and obliging the cakes were to die for and an added bonus we had a window seat and was able to sit and watch the hustle bustle passing by.

Popped into this wonderful cafe for a quick coffee but was sidetracked by the dazzling cakes!!Chose the chocolate orange mousse cake and it was heavenly. Rich, chocolately and orangey! OMG (as the kids say!)The coffee and walnut cake was about 8" deep and also looked fantastic but 2 cakes would have been greedy.All the cakes are homemade and the owner is a devilishy handsome hunk of Bear!Well done! A really great find.

I really like this place, the atmosphere is relaxed & welcoming. The coffee is great, always the correct temperature & the latte art is always changing (good sign). The cakes are awesome, my favourite is the chocolate brownie, there's always a good selection of other cakes & flapjacks too. Also, the homity pies are the best homemade ones I've eaten...the addition of blue cheese...genius!

Really nice, comfortable, friendly and chilled out cafe. Cheery staff, great service etc, but the best bit is having a homemade peanut butter brownie with a morning coffee.Excellent all round.

If you enjoy smooth and tasty coffee then this is somewhere you must stop at when in Brixham, even if you just want a take away! The home made cakes are as tasty as they look and it's easy to see how much effort and attention to detail the owner puts in to everything that is produced. One thing that stands out for me is that the owner has a real passion for producing great coffee, and the amount of different available coffee types and wide selection of syrups that you can try is testament to that. I don't think I have ever had a caramel macchiato taste so amazing!I always feel welcomed whenever I go in, and the friendly and relaxed atmosphere is great. It is a real asset to the town, and I will continue to buy my coffee here for a long time.

Amazing coffee, really smooth and expertly made, fantastic selection of homemade cakes, I really loved the egg custard. The service was superb with the owner Dan being friendly and accommodating. Atmosphere is relaxed, perfect place to chill out, the books and newspapers available are a real find. I'll definitely be returning often!
