Go somewhere else. We had booked dinner in the bar area as we were there with our dog. When we entered we gave our name to be told we didn't have a reservation. We spelled our surname and were then shown the reservations where our booking was clearly visible. We were seated at the table, given menus and left alone. We were not offered drinks and nobody took our orders. I asked a member of staff in a waistcoat if we could order and I was sent back to the bar. I had to pay for everything immediately and the option of a table tab was not understood. More guests were then seated around us where drink and food orders were taken at the table. I complained and was advised the staff were new. The menu was basic and the food was very basic. I left 3/4 of my dinner. I waited 20 minutes for someone to clear the table. No comments about the amount of food left and no offer of dessert. Would definitely not recommend

It’s deteriorated but could be easily resolved. We don’t live nearby but we are from Devon and come here every year and usually stay in the attached hotel. We’ve always had a great experience but it’s really slipped. There used to be an extensive menu but it’s now restricted to just a few items which I’m ok with as long as they have focused on a less-is-more outstanding quality approach. Not the case sadly. Almost no choice for vegetarians and vegans. The mussels were ok, the fish and chips with rock hard peas were underwhelming and the olive oil and breads was served with pretty hideous rapeseed oil instead, even though the menu says olive oil. The garlic bread was grim too / just white bread toasted on one side. I’m not sure if something has changed or if the place is under financial pressure but it’s one of the worst meals we have had in a good while. I suspect there is no trained chef. This place needs a Gordon Ramsey moment to rip up the menu and go back to focusing on a great customer experience. The staff were pleasant enough. It’s a shame to let it slip as it’s the focal point of the whole town and for us it’s always been a part of the Lynmouth experience. It’s always been packed when we have come before but not as busy tonight and we also couldn’t book a table - walk in’s only. All could be fixed easily as the decor and ambience is still great. Whoever is standing over the food menu and quality though needs to get some friendly help.

A warm welcome and smile would’ve been nice on arrival ( that doesn’t cost much ) maybe take the lids of drink bottles and pour the drinks for your customers ( that doesn’t take much effort). Food okay. Nice burger , fish and chips standard and kids pasta was delicious. BLT presented beautifully but minimal amount of Bacon (less bread and more Bacon) . Burger, fish and chips, kids pasta and BLT with drinks £88 . Would I go back (probably not due to rude staff)

We visited in July for a lamb roast after finding it the only local place to serve lamb. We were seated in the Galley section (it’s very dog friendly). The food was delicious with sides such as cauliflower cheese included. The service was friendly and efficient. My only watch out would be, if you love lots gravy on your roast, you only get a drizzle! I did ask for extra which they provided in a gravy boat, but I wasn’t made aware I’d be charged an extra £2 for this. I thought that was a little unfair considering there was barely any gravy to start with, and personally I think gravy is a key part in a roast! In terms of the Sunday menu they offered lots of variety with non roast dishes also available.

WOW! What else can I say, apart from that my 3 night stay here was one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. Everything about my stay was exceptional. The location, literally in the centre of Lynmouth overlooking the harbour. My allocated room was delightful, The Fernery; welcoming, cosy and comfortable with a homely feel which is missing from run of the mill hotel rooms. It also has a sea view. Excellent breakfast choice; croissants, fresh fruits, cereals, various cooked choices and plenty of tea or coffee. I had dinner in the restaurant; venison, perfectly cooked and presented. I also ate in the adjoining Ancient Mariner; lamb stew. The Ancient Mariner is also a great pub too. Very highly recommended.

We stayed at The Bath whilst walking the South West Coast Path in Devon. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was large, comfortable and tastefully decorated. I received an email before our stay asking if we would like to book a table in the Ancient Mariners, which we did. We had a delicious meal in there as well as a very good breakfast the next morning in the hotel. As a vegetarian I was particularly pleased that the kitchen make their own chestnut and mushroom veggie sausages which were very tasty. We always rate the places we stay in whilst walking out of 10 and The Bath came out top overall in our week’s holiday.

We had to complain three times after waiting almost an hour for our main course to arrive. When we finished our meal, the waitress asked us how the food was. Two of our meals had lacked serious flavour and seasoning, and when we told her this she replied “well we were never going to make you happy tonight anyway” in an incredibly unprofessional and rude tone. This was totally inappropriate after what we had already experienced... she gave us a discount on the food, but overall the treatment and delivery was very disappointing.

Despite being busy service was timely and very friendly. When the food arrived we were surprised at the portions which were so generous we didn't have room for pudding. Three very thick slices of succulent lamb accompanied by a few roast potatoes, suede, balsamic red cabbage, parsnip, cauliflower cheese, broccoli and a couple more. All cooked how I like them. Dogs were also allowed within the bar area and fussed over by staff. If in the area again would have no hesitation to return.

We decided to go to the restaurant in The Bath Hotel for my birthday lunch. We found that the menu at the main entrance to the hotel seemed to be different to the one inside the restaurant/pub section. The staff serving seemed a bit too laid back and wasn't familiar with changes to the new menu. I wanted the poached salmon dish only to be told that was the only one on the menu we couldn't have because the delivery of fish hadn't arrived yet so we decided to opt for the omelettes instead. These were on the menu at the hotel's entrance but not inside the restaurant/pub. They were to be £10.95 each btw. We chose our fillings and asked for new potatoes instead if chips and salad (the menu by the entrance said buttered greens but we asked for salad and was told that was fine). What came up were 3 fairly thin and slightly overcooked omelettes with quite a lot of new potatoes and a small garnish of green salad. All for £10.95 each. £5.95 would've been too much. We decided not to go back again.

I had read the review by Nick S about the breakfast not being fit for pigs but as I had eaten breakfast there that morning and thought he was wrong I decided to give it a go for dinner. We had eaten at The Rising Sun the night before and 7 Bistro was booked so I booked in at the Bath Hotel. We were staying there anyway so it made life easy, not far to go. Started with drinks, a pint of Mena Dhu, a black Guinness like stout which I can recommend. The starters were both very well presented, ham hock and asparagus/poached egg and then fish and chips and rump steak for mains. We were full but still had apple crumble and bread and butter pudding to finish off with. The food was good and we were not rushed by the waitress. Each course arrived 10-15 mins apart and not one after the other. Ther are different parts to the restaurant and you can go and have a meal in the pub side. He gave us the distinct impression we were maladjusted rebels disrupting a finely tuned operation. But condescended to let us dine anyway. Anyway we paid upfront ,chose a table and sat down. A couple of minutes later I decided I would like some peas with my order. I endured a withering look, head toss and a sigh. Because remember folks not every chef has mastered microwave de-frosting level 3!We assembled various plastic packaged condiments for our repast and waited(the contents of one bore no resemblance whatsoever to any tartar sauce I have ever previously encountered)The chips were OK and the batter crisp but the fish had no discernable flavour. Possibly Pollock or Copy but definitely not Cod or Haddock.Lynmouth has plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from, I wouldn't choose this one again.. Called in as a foursome without booking and were treated to good old rationed service, lovely old style dining tables laid impeccably, the food really excellent, you must try this place, you will not be disappointed.

What a find this little place was! After a day stomping ad trudging I found a splendid watering hole. The staff are very kind and t was sheer pleasure to eavesdrop on their exchanges with the regulars: it seemed as though you were at somebody's home. The overall impression is that of a 50's place where all is well in the world. To my chagrin I only have one stomach... I saw another party being served and each and every of the dishes that floated tantalisingly by was an open invitation. I enjoyed the brilliant toasted teacake (asked for seconds) which was, I apologise beforehand for the trite pun, tasty to a t!I have pics I'll share later

Firstly it should be pointed out that there are 2 eating areas. One is similar to a pub and the other is the hotel restaurant which is a little more formal and has to be booked. We were lucky enough to try both out and could not fault anything. Service, food and hospitality were excellent....we thank Rachael and Lee for looking after us (after poor results at a couple of other establishments), especially with Lee's lemon brulee! It's quite easy to overlook this place, we're certainly pleased we took the plunge!

We were pleasantly surprised by this harbourside bar, having been turned away from a number of places because it was after 230. We both had ham, egg and chips, with a slice of bread. All was good quality for the price. Nice atmosphere too.

We had lunch here as a family of 7 during our recent holiday in nearby Woolacombe. We ate in the courtyard and our food arrived promptly. The food was of a high quality and portion size large! Just beware if you order the onion rings you get about 12 We will definitely return when we're next in the area.

We had an evening meal in the restaurant, we chose Chicken which was bland and served with a few cut chips, the sea bass looked grey in colour and I choose not to eat it. I told the waitress that I could not eat the sea bass, her reply was ' I am surprised as it is a popular choice'.I would advise not to order the chicken as it takes an hour to cook, the sea bass did not appear to be fresh however, the meals were reasonably priced although portion size small.

We sat outside here recently with our dog, enjoying a leisurely tea and coffee whilst overlooking the harbour and watching the world go by. The drinks were very reasonably priced and the waitress was friendly and efficient too. The toilets were clean. (We also had the option to eat inside too.)

I went here with my dad for lunch. The lady who served us was friendly and polite. We ordered the soup of the day, which was potato and leek, a side salad and then a cream tea for after. The soup was nice, but nothing special. The side salad was a generous portion and tasted good. Unfortunately the scone for our cream tea was dry and so I'd advise against ordering this should you choose to come here. The price of the food wasn't too expensive so I'd recommend lunch here should you find yourself visiting Lynmouth for a few days.

Popped in for a late lunch with my husband, elderly parents and our three dogs. We were all made to feel very comfortable and as it had been a chilly, wet day it was nice to sit somewhere warm and have the dogs inside with us. There was a good choice of food on the menu and reasonably priced, and the staff were efficient and friendly. The meals were served in good time in a relaxed atmosphere (although it would obviously be quite different in high season), with lovely views all around. We visited, walked and stayed in and around Lynmouth for over 30 years, but this was the first time we had gone into the Bath Hotel, encouraged by the big 'dogs welcome' sign outside. Will not hesitate to return there.

We booked this hotel really not knowing what to expect.Earlier reviews were mixed but we wanted somewhere to stay central to Lynmouth & SWCP.On arrival the very friendly lady on reception was brilliant. Nothing was no problem even when we wanted to book a taxi. She tried numerous numbers before success. The hotel is really old fashioned which we loved.Room 7 is oblong shaped with a small bath/loo/shower.A basin in the room also. The room is compact/clean and tidy. This is all we wanted due to us walking part of the Southwest Coastal Path and not spending to much time in the room. The breakfast & evening restaurant was top class with food & service 2nd to none.Again the staff were brilliant with every one treated as good friends.Always interested in what you had been up to that day. After a long day walking all we wanted was a beer & ploughmans. The bar attached to the hotel supplied both which was great. Finally our local taxi driver was full of chat & info,so use Moorland Taxis 07582 278743..Michael Witt...Top fella....Give this hotel a visit..you won't be disappointed...

Went in for a drink to see what the place was like with a view to possibly having a meal there the following night. What greeted us was:1. Bad smell of body odour (Barman should use deodorant), 2. the ale was off (end of barrel) and;3. thrash metal music playing on sound system. Couldn't get out of there quick enough. Needless to say we did not go back. For the 4 evenings we were staying in Lynmouth other pubs/bars nearby were busy whilst this one was very quiet ..... Its a pity as the hotel itself looks quite nice.

My wife and I both ordered the chicken breast stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped in bacon. My food was average at best, I could have done a better job of it at home, yes it was chicken, it did have blue cheese but the bacon was draped over it. My wife was served a similar chicken breast without the blue cheese which probably would've masked the stink of the chicken being off! This was taken off the bill and the waitress was very sorry. Not a good experience, when the waitress went out to the kitchen to sort out the blue cheese for my wife we could hear her shouting at the chef!

This is the third time we have stayed in this hotel and the restaurant food has been superb every time. We were surprised to read on Trip Advisor that one or two people had had bad experiences in the bar but we can only say the meals in the restaurant are excellent. We had very tasty garlic mushrooms, a trio of smoked fish as a starter, a delicious lambs liver casserole and T-bone steak . The ingredients are obviously local and very fresh, the fish is extremely good and the service is always friendly. It isn't haut cuisine but it is perfect after a day walking or enjoying the local scenery and is hard to fault in any way.

No real problems with the beer and nothing majorly bad about the service, however there are far better places nearby to go for food. Prices do not reflect the quality and the ingredients used are pretty cheap.and not particularly tasty. That said, the prices for beer are reasonable and the bar is well equipped, so you can have a decent pint over a game of pool, or sit and chat and put some music on the jukebox.

Really surprised at the bad reviews for this place. Ate in the restaurant with my mum, food was excellent well worth the money. Service was excellent, friendly and relaxing. So pleased I left a huge tip. Went into the Galley bar next door for a drink, again good service, felt comfortable and relaxed. Would definitely eat and drink here again if passing.

We popped into the Galley Bar for a lunch with two families with small children and ordered kids meals and sandwiches/burgers for the adults. Prices were average, staff were terrible - not at all hospitable and looked very annoyed about our request to put two tables together to accommodate us as a group. The food was possible the worst excuse for a pub lunch I have ever experienced, and if it were not for our 3 hungry children we would have demanded a refund and left - it was really that bad.My own choice of a chicken burger was a grave mistake; I received what can only be described as a reconstituted saw-dust textured discus of grey matter, burned on one side, raw on the other, and wedged between a cheap bun. I took one bite and couldn’t even swallow it - it was vile. One asking the waitress to take it back and replace it with a simple sandwich I was told that 'she would have to ask the chef'.She left the food in front of me and marched off to the kitchen whilst uttering words under her breath. She returned shortly after and told me that the chef was confident that the meat was of a very high quality and sourced locally! This burger had no comparison to a piece of chicken.I asked her to take it back, which she did - only to return with the chef himself who looked very annoyed and challenged my disapproval with the food. An argument developed with him saying that it was good quality food that he had spent a long time researching and sourcing locally, and me simply saying that I was not at all happy with what was being masqueraded as chicken. To say the chef was rude and arrogant would be a massive understatement and the final straw was when he called one of the children a 'mucky pup' for getting some beans on the dinner mat. Truly unbelievable. I told him that I no longer wanted him to talk with us and that he was ruining a meal that we had paid for. Eventually he left and agreed to refund my meal. This left a very awkward atmosphere in the pub which was not helped by the waitress and bar staff standing nearby to us and watching our every move. We couldn’t get out of there quick enough...All that was left was to get my refund, which I had to ask for from the barmaid. She then refused! On asking the chef for confirmation of this, she returned to the till and literally chucked my £7.99 back into my hand and shot me a look that could kill.If i could give this place a minus mark, Iwould. I have NEVER experienced such appalling customer service and strongly suggest you don’t either. Avoid this place like the plague.

I suppose we should have had second thoughts when the advertised price for Sunday roast on Mother's Day was only £5.95 in such a popular holiday destination. The fact that they weren't already full booked should also have told us something. The meal arrived very quickly, with a large Yorkshire pudding piled on top and soaked in gravy; personally I prefer it dry and crispy. The 'beef' as it was described I suspect came out of a tin as it was tasteless. Vegetables nicely cooked although my wife described the cabbage as reminiscent of school dinners. Roast potatoes overcooked - almost burnt. Overall very disappointing.Easily the majority of my posts on this website have been very positive so for anyone who reads this needs to bear that in mind.

Firstly, let me say, we did not stay in the hotel so this is not directed to them. However, we popped in for a quick lunch at the Galley Bar attached to the hotel and as there was myself, husband and 3 children ranging from 17 to 9 years old, we were looking for value for money as we were on a tight budget. The 2 youngest had the childrens menu and the rest of us opted for the jumbo sausage and chips. Firstly they managed to say we ordered 4 of them and did not offer to reimburse us for the extra meal and said it was our fault - perhaps a communication problem on their part. Secondly, the sausages were the cheapest, nastiest ones all of us have ever had!!!! The meals cost £4.99 each and we expected more!!! We knew they weren't going to be the best quality sausages, but what a rip off. Steer clear me thinks!!
